Thanks Paul - does anyone know if it is possible to extract the document
title, subject, author etc contained in the pdf document's General Info
using Verity and CF.

The very good example provided by Paul only shows the file's name.

RE: Support for NCLOB Datatype in Oracle

2000-06-21 Thread Dave Watts

Can anyone tell me whether the native driver for Oracle that
comes with Cold Fusion Enterprise 4.5 supports Oracle's NCLOB
 data type?

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think so - N' data types aren't ASCII, but
Unicode, which CF doesn't understand.

RE: combining order by and cf group attribute

2000-06-21 Thread Dave Watts

I'm joining a few tables and grouping them by their "package".
It works great until I try to add an ORDER BY price statement
to the sql. When I do that, it creates several groups. The
pricing order takes precedence over the grouping done in CF.
How can I order by price and stay within the groups?

You're lucky it's working now - it's purely coincidental that the natural
sort order matches what you're GROUPing by. You should always ORDER BY the
field by which you want to GROUP in your CFOUTPUT. If you want to specify a
secondary ordering, ORDER BY that field as well:

ORDER BY Package, Price

Why is it some messages get posted with this?

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

A little more expansively (sp?), any non-Plain Text format; i.e. Rich Text,

Basically, it's the poster not choosing Plain Text in the formatting of the
email messages, which is annoying on this list as it adds odd codes into the

RE: Need help with a SQL query

2000-06-21 Thread Philip Arnold - ASP

Sorry about the non-descriptive subject, but I'm tired and really couldn't
think of a way to describe my question in one line g.

I have a database table of product information and a database table of
product category information. Each product may exist in more than one
category, so I created a "mappings" table that simply contains
ItemID-CategoryID pairs. This is all well and good.

I am trying to write a product details query that includes a
 comma delimited
list of the CategoryIDs that the product belongs to. Currently I run two
queries: one for the data from the product table and another for the
CategoryIDs from the mappings table. Then I create a list of the Category
IDs and manually add the list to the query of other product data.

Is there a way to get SQL to do this for me in one query? As far
 as I know
subqueries are only useful when they return a single value, which won't
 quite work here. Any ideas?

Right, I'm not gonna address the whole thing (no time at the moment), but a
quick word about sub-queries

They should be used in 2 ways - one to return a single result;
select * from myTable where myValue=(select myValue from myOtherTable
where...)

Or to return multiple values
select * from myTable where myValue in (select myValue from myOtherTable
where...)

The second is a lot more useful for what you're looking for

Hope this gives you a push in the right direction

If I get more time later, I'll expand, but quite busy at the moment...
sorry.

RE: Database Design Question

2000-06-21 Thread cbevis

The standard way to take care of this is a self-referencing table, and a
recursive function to bust them out.

ID|Parent_ID

Top levels have an id of 0, and the other rows work well with an autonumber
in the id.

If children can have multiple parents, as in a BOM(Bill of Materials)
problem, you'll need two tables of course.

Tom,

I have worked with both the databases and i think Sql server
is "much more easier to set up and to work with". Sql
server is much more flexible than oracle, Oracle might have some
advantages for large databases, but i guess the latest
Sql server version is equally powerful.

RE: How to escape a - in a form post

Well, since a FORM is essentially a struct, you can access
you variable by referencing it this way :

#FORM["E-Mail"]#

I tested it with CFServer 4.5.1 on Solaris, but since this
kind of reference can be made also on 4.0, it should work.

Hi,
I have to make a general form that takes a user defined form

such as a text field and put it into an email. I have everything
working except if a user creates a form with an input field named with
a
dash (-)
cold fusion treats it as a subtraction and returns an error when i try
to access the variable.
I need to be able to reference the variable on the following page.
For example i would normally reference a form variable such as a text
box with the name "address" as #form.address# but if the user makes
the
name of the field "E-Mail" you would think that you would be able to
reference it with #form.E-Mail# but cold fusion responds with the
error:

Invalid parser construct found on line 14 at position 17. ColdFusion
was

looking at the following text:

-
Invalid expression format. The usual cause is an error in the
expression

structure.

I have tried escaping it with a "\" and even using the same character
twice "--" but nothing works. Could anyone please tell me how to
escape

a dash from a form element.

Thanks!

Re: Need help with a SQL query

Right, I'm not gonna address the whole thing (no time at the moment), but

 Or to return multiple values
select * from myTable where myValue in (select myValue from myOtherTable

The second is a lot more useful for what you're looking for

Right, but I don't see how that helps me. Neither of those two uses of
subqueries returns a LIST of values that can be used in a single field of
the parent query.

For example, if my mapping table looks like so:
ItemIDCategoryID
--
11
12
14
22
24

I would like the details query for ItemID 1 to have the following fields:
.Name - simply pulled from item table
.Desc - simply pulled from item table
.CategoryIDs - "1,2,4"

I've looked through a couple of my SQL books and haven't found an answer, so
maybe this isn't possible (using SQL 6.5, BTW). Its not THAT big of a deal
to run two queries.

Thanks for the help,

RE: OT: RE: Looking for junior-level CF developer

2000-06-21 Thread Andrew Scott

I actually agree with this post, because I have been programming for 20
years. In this time I have learnt a lot in the logic of programming, and
this would give me the Senior Analyst Programmer status. As I have also been
developing in Coldfusion for the last 3 years, I have found that it is the
same as any other language. This means that anyone else with the same
experience can rightfully claim senior status within weeks of using the
language, because the programming logic flows from one language to the next.

But for anyone learning programming at the same time as learning with
Coldfusion, could also take 6 years to reach senior status. It would all
really depend on your knowledge, ability to learn quickly or even how well
you lateral think.

Also it could take someone constantly working in the industry 3 years and
someone who is learning in their spare time 10 years. It depends on the
individual, and I for one don't like employers always labelling an
individual by the number of years they have worked using a particular
language.

Subject: RE: OT: RE: Looking for junior-level CF developer

I did not state that I consider this senior. I thought his expectations of
what a junior programmer would know to be excessive. In the UK, you are
considered 'junior' if you have just come out of University after doing a 3
year Computer degree (and up to a year of industrial experience). A senior
would need a minimum of 3 years industrial experience and probably be more
like 5 years.

Again this is conjecture, as I was working as a computer consultant within
1.5 years of leaving University. It comes down to ability (also your belief
in your own abilities).

You also have to look at the skill set he was requiring. Most people spend a
long time just getting to know one database. Let alone three. I would say
that a Junior would have had experience with one serious database (SQL
Server or Oracle) and knows Access.

Still it is only my honest opinion and in the end it is down to the
individual to decide how good they are and run with that. Web development is
an odd beast as it requires a broader range of knowledge than most computer
programming skills.

So in summary:
It is up to you to decide if you are 'junior' or not. But if you had that
skill set (SQL, Oracle, HTML, Javascript and CF) and where able to
demonstrate these effectively with a good understanding of database design,
a thorough understanding of CF, HTML and Javascript , and a good user
interface design ability, then you can quite happily go become a consultant.

Earnings in the South East UK should take you to around £100k a year (about
$150k) assuming a 2000 hour year.

If you look at my earlier post you will also see that I equated a junior
position with having around 1.5 years experience, and even then I think that
comes down to the individual. Some people are just natural born programmers
:-)

It isn't possible to send multiple attachments using CFMAIL. If you need to
send multiple attachments, there's a great tag in the Developer's Exchange
called CFC_Mail2 which costs $45. It allows you to attach multiple
attachments, send BCCs and a bunch of other things. The one thing I haven't
gotten it to do yet is send HTML in the body :( However, if you can upgrade
to 4.5, then CFMAIL takes a CFMAILPARAM tag inside of it that allows you to
attach an attachment, and the CFMAIL tag takes multiple (supposedly
unlimited) CFMAILPARAM tags. This is a better solution, but obviously more
costly than the $45 for CFX_Mail2. :)

I am trying to write a product details query that includes a comma
delimited
list of the CategoryIDs that the product belongs to. Currently I run two
queries: one for the data from the product table and another for the
CategoryIDs from the mappings table. Then I create a list of the Category
IDs and manually add the list to the query of other product data.

Is there a way to get SQL to do this for me in one query? As far as I
know
subqueries are only useful when they return a single value, which won't
 quite work here. Any ideas?

 Thanks in advance,

Re: Searchy thing

2000-06-21 Thread Chris Michl

As far as I know, the only thing you can extract are the keywords. Here's
what I use:

CFSEARCH name = "GetResults" collection = "MyCollection" criteria =
"FTS_Keywords contains #Form.Criteria#" maxRows = "#Evaluate(Form.MaxRows
+ 1)#" startRow = "#Form.StartRow#"

Thanks Paul - does anyone know if it is possible to extract the document
title, subject, author etc contained in the pdf document's General Info
 using Verity and CF.

The very good example provided by Paul only shows the file's name.

get the idea

It worked perfectly.
Thank you so much Frédéric

Well, since a FORM is essentially a struct, you can access
you variable by referencing it this way :

#FORM["E-Mail"]#

I tested it with CFServer 4.5.1 on Solaris, but since this
kind of reference can be made also on 4.0, it should work.

Subject: How to escape a "-" in a form post

Hi,
I have to make a general form that takes a user defined form
element

such as a text field and put it into an email.

Thanks!
Kevin

Re: images, cold fusion, and sql server

2000-06-21 Thread Larry C. Lyons

Chad,

Do yourself a favour and don't store the image in the database. Its
probably faster to just reference the image name and parameters (height
and width). Put the images in a directory that is not on the web server.
Then use CFFile and CFContent to get the path and to display the images.

Has anyone here ever made a CF site that involves on-demand
 streaming audio?

We're using Windows Media Services w/ CF. We chose WMS over
(Un)RealServer for two reasons: 1) PRICE! and 2) Real has had some
nasty security / DoS exploits in recent months (Check out the
archives at NTBugTraq if you haven't seen them).

Our authentication isn't as good as it could be, unfortunately.
Currently members login, and their IP is added to the list of allowed
video IPs on the video server via a call to CFRegistry. When their
sessions expire, we have a garbage collection routine that removes
the IPs from the registry. Not great, but functional...

On our list of Things to Do, we would like to write an authentication
filter for WMS that would authenticate each user when they connect to
the video server. WMS allows you to write DLLs which handle all the
auth work basically return 'Yea' or 'Nay' to the video server. We
want to produce something that would grab the user's CFID CFTOKEN
cookies, connect to our SQL Server, and see if those IDs were
currently valid in the Client variable store. Shouldn't be too
difficult, right?...

We use our system for streaming video, but there's no reason the
exact same system wouldn't support streaming audio for your needs.

K12 school application

2000-06-21 Thread Dan Schueler

Anyone know of an application in cf for schools? K-12 would be good,
but college would be useful too. I'm trying to help out a local school district.
They have cold fusion, but are just getting started.

I'm thinking about things like school calendar, classes, teachers, staff,
organizations, cirriculum, class scheduling with things like homework
assignments, requirements, and so on.

It seems like such a thing should be available, but I haven't found one yet.
The Michigan Department of Education seems to have a knowledge base
written in cf, but so far I can't find a school admin system there.

Brook,

I'd recommend buying SQL for Smarties by Joe Celko. There's a couple of
chapter specifically on ways to handle hierarchy data w/different database
systems. I really like the "Nested-Set Model." The nice thing about the
Nested-Set model is that you can do all your tree parsing/order via SQL-no
need to manipulate the data via CF (which you have to do when simply storing
the parent ID.)

RE: MDAC 2.5 - i don't think so

2000-06-21 Thread Eron Cohen

Me too. I initially DID have problems with MDAC 2.5, when I first installed
it. I wound up using the component checker from Microsoft to uninstall it

(
see my article in Fusion Authority entitled
"What to Do When You're Having Trouble with an MDAC Installation"
http://www.fusionauthority.com/alert/index.cfm?alertid=21
)

My guess is that your installation might not have gone well. Although it
isn't made clear in the install instructions, you really need to shut down
all non-essential services on the server before installing an MDAC. As a
precaution, I would also run the component checker after the installation
just to make sure the right files made it in.

Note: component checker always seems to come up with a few "false positives"
for mismatched files. Be sure and see the docs for which ones of these are
acceptable and which aren't.

Hopefully, you don't have a need for MDAC 2.5 so that you don't have to
bother with any of this.

RE: IIS sharing on IP address

2000-06-21 Thread Olive, Christopher M Mr USACHPPM

with IIS, the three things that make up a "site's ID" are IP address, port,
and host header. change any one of these, and it's a "new" site.

however, host headers are a bit sticky. the client browser needs to know
how to use them (essentially 3+ browsers here) and the client box has to
"know" about the host header (which usually entails modifying the hosts
file.) these are usually only a good idea for "internal" site separation.

RE: K12 school application

2000-06-21 Thread Caulfield, Michael

My sister has actually put something together at webassignment.com in Cold
Fusion. It has a templates for interactive assignments (DHTML fill in the
blanks, matching, concentration), database-driven homework submissions and
retrieval, a school calendar, DHTML seating charts, automatic grading and
student tracking, gradebooks, reporting features, assignment sharing,
community features, and a bunch of other stuff.

The front end doesn't looks so hot, and it needs an interface makeover, but
the functionality is all there, and is already in use in a couple of classes
at one school. There should be a sample login at the address. If you have
any problems or questions, you can contact me off-list (my sister just had a
kid two days ago, and is not checking email).

RE: Need help with a SQL query

2000-06-21 Thread Philip Arnold - ASP

Right, I'm not gonna address the whole thing (no time at the
 moment), but
 a
  quick word about sub-queries

  They should be used in 2 ways - one to return a single result;
select * from myTable where myValue=(select myValue from myOtherTable
  where...)

  Or to return multiple values
select * from myTable where myValue in (select myValue from myOtherTable
  where...)

The second is a lot more useful for what you're looking for

Right, but I don't see how that helps me. Neither of those two uses of
subqueries returns a LIST of values that can be used in a single field of
 the parent query.

For example, if my mapping table looks like so:
 ItemIDCategoryID
 --
 11
 12
 14
 22
 24

I would like the details query for ItemID 1 to have the following fields:
.Name - simply pulled from item table
.Desc - simply pulled from item table
 .CategoryIDs - "1,2,4"

I've looked through a couple of my SQL books and haven't found an
 answer, so
maybe this isn't possible (using SQL 6.5, BTW). Its not THAT big
of a deal to run two queries.

I must have mis-understood what you wanted - I had assumed that you wanted
all select all categoried that were related to one product category - it'd
probably be easier to run 2 queries (from what I see you want - again, I
could be mis-understanding)

BTW a sub query effectively makes a comma separated list if it returns more
than one record, so the IN would work rather than the =

CFX execution time

2000-06-21 Thread Michel Vuijlsteke

Hello.

I have Delphi-built cfx that takes 2 integers and returns them to me
multiplied with a status code.

Is it normal for a simple cfx like that to take more than 2 seconds to

Thing is, a more complex cfx which does a complex calculation involving a
third-party dll and binary files holding data takes approx. the same time.

Is there really an almost 2 s overhead for cfx tags? All this in NT4, CF
4.01, 512 Mb RAM, with no significant load on the machine and using the
standard delphi framework as described in the Forta book.

make it download, however my AdobeAcrobat reader does not launch, but some
ActiveX square. If I call: http://www.website.com/files/doc1.pdf directly,
then it launches ADobe plugins. Any suggestions? I want to use CFCOntent
since it provides the Delete File option, which deletes the file as soon as
it gets downloaded, as of now I'm using redirection in order to get the pdf

Re: OT: IIS sharing on IP address

2000-06-21 Thread Todd Ashworth

As I recently learned from someone else in here, you *could* do it like
this.

In the default document of the root web at the IP address, put something
like this:

CFSWITCH EXPRESSION="#lcase(CGI.SERVER_NAME)#"
CFCASE VALUE="www.site1.com, site1.com"
CFLOCATION URL="/folder1/"
/CFCASE
CFCASE VALUE="www.site2.net, site2.net"
CFLOCATION url="/folder2/bob.cfm
/CFCASE
CFDEFAULTCASE
CFLOCATION URL="/index.cfm"
/CFDEFAULTCASE
/CFSWITCH

Under these conditions, if someone typed www.site1.com, they would get
redirected to www.site1.com/folder1/. www.site2.net would be
www.site2.net/site2/bob.cfm. Anything else and they get sent to index.cfm
in the root folder. It might not be 100% clean and pretty, but it works
well, especially for 'simpler sites'. Besides, most people won't know the
difference anyway.

A couple of working examples would be www.campcheokee.org, or
www.littlegoldangels.com [don't laugh, I didn't make these, I just set up
the servers ;) ]

As I recently learned from someone else in here, you *could* do it like
this.

In the default document of the root web at the IP address, put something
like this:

CFSWITCH EXPRESSION="#lcase(CGI.SERVER_NAME)#"
CFCASE VALUE="www.site1.com, site1.com"
CFLOCATION URL="/folder1/"
/CFCASE
CFCASE VALUE="www.site2.net, site2.net"
CFLOCATION url="/folder2/bob.cfm
/CFCASE
CFDEFAULTCASE
CFLOCATION URL="/index.cfm"
/CFDEFAULTCASE
/CFSWITCH

Under these conditions, if someone typed www.site1.com, they would get
redirected to www.site1.com/folder1/. www.site2.net would be
www.site2.net/site2/bob.cfm. Anything else and they get sent to index.cfm
in the root folder. It might not be 100% clean and pretty, but it works
well, especially for 'simpler sites'. Besides, most people won't know the
difference anyway.

A couple of working examples would be www.campcheokee.org, or
www.littlegoldangels.com [don't laugh, I didn't make these, I just set up
the servers ;) ]

Re:

Is there a way to have CF store input to a form in
another language besides english( like : Arabic,
Japanese, chinese etc) in SQL Server database?

alphabet based languages in or out of unicode are pretty
straightforward. multi-byte character ones like chinese
japanese are another story. if you don't display these (these
being alphabet based languages) all on the same page then
should be no problem processing non-english text w/cf.

CF updating values in database

2000-06-21 Thread Jamie Symonds

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--0744F58F5C26C4A7D1D9CDD6
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Hello everyone - thanks for provind an interesting list to
read. I have now summoned the courage to make a posting,
here's my question:

I have a web application where a user can enter information
(mainly from their CV) into a form where it is then inserted
into a table in my database. The user (plans are for a
yearly update where it's a CV we're dealing with) can return
to the web site anytime in the future and make additions to
her/his data. I have accomplished this (using VALUE=, etc.)
with my text input fields and text areas (still a little
trouble showing a checked radio button from the query but
that will come in time). My trouble is that while I want
the user to add info to that info currently on file, I do
not want to user to be able to edit the information
currently on file - I simply want the new data appended to
the top of the exisiting information (for example, there's a
"publications" field - they could see the publications from
previous years, and add this years' to the top of that
textarea without being able to edit the old data). I'm sure
that there is a simple and easy solution to this?

this years' info + info currently on file = updated field in
database

Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

Jamie

I have an app with a self-posting template. There are 2 different ways it is
submitted. Selecting an option from a select list and the onchange event,

The template works fine in IE and NS WIN, but on the MAC, when I select an
option from the select list, the submit button value is passed also, and
consequently, takes the wrong logical path.

Right, I'm not gonna address the whole thing (no time at the moment), but
a
 quick word about sub-queries

 They should be used in 2 ways - one to return a single result;
select * from myTable where myValue=(select myValue from myOtherTable
 where...)

 Or to return multiple values
select * from myTable where myValue in (select myValue from myOtherTable
 where...)

The second is a lot more useful for what you're looking for

Right, but I don't see how that helps me. Neither of those two uses of
subqueries returns a LIST of values that can be used in a single field of
the parent query.

For example, if my mapping table looks like so:
ItemIDCategoryID
--
11
12
14
22
24

I would like the details query for ItemID 1 to have the following fields:
.Name - simply pulled from item table
.Desc - simply pulled from item table
.CategoryIDs - "1,2,4"

I've looked through a couple of my SQL books and haven't found an answer,
so
maybe this isn't possible (using SQL 6.5, BTW). Its not THAT big of a deal
to run two queries.

Thanks for the help,

RE: OT: IIS sharing on IP address

2000-06-21 Thread Sean Daniels

if I understand correctly. you have to go in after creating the
 website in
IIS and rightclick properties. on the first page, you'll have to hit an
advanced button or something like that to get to where you can enter the
 header informtion.

That's just about right. The advanced button opens up a window that allows
you to add and/or edit site identities (consisting of IP, Port, and Host
Header combo.) You would edit the existing entry and specify www.site1.com
in the host header field.

By the way, it should be noted that SSL does not support host headers, so if
you are using SSL, you need a distinct IP address for each site.

Amazon Tags

2000-06-21 Thread Stuart Duncan

Hey all,

I've come across a few interesting tags for searching through Amazon's
books and such
but what I really need is something which allows me to actually select
individual books and display those on the site.

I was thinking, something where I could just enter the product id form
Amazon, and the tag would go and fetch all the information from them on
that book.

Has anyone come up with an easy way to do this, or do you know of any
custom tags that does this?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Stuart Duncan.

You setup one site and make sure you use the advanced properties in that

Once that is configured, you just point all of the DNS to that IP.

As I recently learned from someone else in here, you *could* do it like
 this.

In the default document of the root web at the IP address, put something
 like this:

 CFSWITCH EXPRESSION="#lcase(CGI.SERVER_NAME)#"
  CFCASE VALUE="www.site1.com, site1.com"
  CFLOCATION URL="/folder1/"
  /CFCASE
  CFCASE VALUE="www.site2.net, site2.net"
  CFLOCATION url="/folder2/bob.cfm
  /CFCASE
  CFDEFAULTCASE
  CFLOCATION URL="/index.cfm"
  /CFDEFAULTCASE
 /CFSWITCH

Under these conditions, if someone typed www.site1.com, they would get
redirected to www.site1.com/folder1/. www.site2.net would be
www.site2.net/site2/bob.cfm. Anything else and they get sent to index.cfm
in the root folder. It might not be 100% clean and pretty, but it works
well, especially for 'simpler sites'. Besides, most people won't know the
 difference anyway.

A couple of working examples would be www.campcheokee.org, or
 www.littlegoldangels.com [don't laugh, I didn't make these, I just set up
 the servers ;) ]

I use host headers all the time. I have found them to be very reliable and
easier to manage than hundreds of IP addresses. If I have to add a new IP
address to my server, it requires a reboot. If I point a new domain at an
existing address, no reboot and a simple IIS config.

Do make sure to add entries for both mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com as I
hate it as a user when mydomain.com doesn't work.

Hope this helps.

 Hello.

I have Delphi-built cfx that takes 2 integers and returns them to me
 multiplied with a status code.

Is it normal for a simple cfx like that to take more than 2 seconds to
 process?

Thing is, a more complex cfx which does a complex calculation involving a
third-party dll and binary files holding data takes approx. the same time.

Is there really an almost 2 s overhead for cfx tags? All this in NT4, CF
4.01, 512 Mb RAM, with no significant load on the machine and using the
standard delphi framework as described in the Forta book.

when you create the website in IIS you will define the root directory of

Crystal Reports question

2000-06-21 Thread B Lakeman

The CF Web Application Construction Kit says in Ch. 16 that Allaire has "chosen it as
the report writer to be bundled with their applications." That implies to me that it
should be
on their CD. I have looked on the CF Server 4.0 CD, the CF Studio 4.0 CD and the CF
4.5 Upgrade CD (all for Windows), and have seen nothing about Crystal Reports. I've
looked for
the crpe32.dll file, and have searched all files on all cds for the word "crystal."
The only mention I saw was in the 4.0 Release Notes regarding possible problems that
may occur
regarding Crystal Reports. I can't locate my 4.0 User Guide to see what it says about
it.

Is this product supposed to be included or not? If so, has anyone else had a problem
"finding" it? Am I missing something? I'm feeling rather obtuse... please help!

Thanks,
B.

for the Certified Internet Webmaster qualification here in Jamaica. Because
of this, I'd like some feedback from anyone with experience with it (as its
name suggests, it operates world-wide).

1. If anyone reading this has taken any of its courses, how informative
have they been?
2. How well taught are its courses?
3. Do any organizations offer online instruction for the same
qualification?

Sincerely,

---

Verity book-like index idea...

2000-06-21 Thread Scott Rowe

Is there anyway to sort of reverse engineer Verity so that you could produce
a book-like index of common words and phrases? Is there a specific place in
verity where it stores the words it has indexed? I looked thru the
collections directory and haven't found anything, can anyone give me an idea
as to how I might be able to do this?

Thanks,

Scott

not that I've seen.

I will play with it. I am thinking that the host will direct you to the IP,
but you would have userid for one domain available in the next domain. ?

Personalization Algorythms

It is great to have the list back .

Does anyone know of any CF-based personalization algorythms/tags? I am
building an application for a company that requires that I learn about the
level of sophistication of a User based on several factors and present
different options based on these results.

RE: CFMAIL running only once an hour

2000-06-21 Thread Sean Daniels

Since installing CF 4.5, my CFMAIL only processes sends mail
 just once an
hour and I cannot find where to configure it to process it immediately.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I would highly recommend upgrading to 4.5.1 if you haven't already. There
were a number of cfmail related problems in 4.5.0.

If you already have 4.5.1, go to the admin page, click Mail under
Miscelleneous, and change the "Spool Interval" to 15. It will then send
spooled mail every 15 seconds.

RE: Native Drivers

2000-06-21 Thread Dave Watts

Can I use an Oracle native driver on Windows Professional? If so can
someone direct me as to where I can find how to install and configure?

Yes, you can, if you have CF Enterprise Edition - I'm not sure what the
"Professional" you've mentioned refers to: Windows or CF. You'll need to get
the Net8 Client and install it. You'd need to do this to connect to Oracle
via ODBC anyway. You should be able to ask your friendly Oracle
administrator for the latest client.

Once you've installed the client, you'll need to set up connection info for
each Oracle instance (database) you want to connect to. You can do this
using the Net8 configuration utilities. You'll need to know the IP address,
database SID, username and password (assuming you're using IP to connect to
Oracle). There are several different ways you can set up Oracle connections,
but this should be a start.

Once you've set up your Net8 connections, you can then set up the Oracle
datasources in CF Administrator.

Re: CF updating values in database

2000-06-21 Thread Brenda Gammon

Well, there are several ways this could be done. Here are just a couple:
get the existing database value and add to it as follows:
cfset updatedList = myquery.fielddata "delimiter-of-your-choice" #form.additions#
then do an update to the table, setting table.fieldname = '#updatedList#'

or plop the existing data into a list or array and append to it using the ListAppend
or ArrayAppend function, then update the table field with the updated list/array.

I'm sure there are other ways, and I don't know which of the two above will process
more quickly - sorry I can't be of more help.

 Jamie

CFFTP Error

2000-06-21 Thread Joshua Starr

I am having a slight problem with CFFTP. I am using an ACTION="GetFile" and
trying to save the file in a local directory. No matter what, it won't save
the file. The error is:

Error Code: 1
Error Text:
Cannot get remote file ftptest.htm to local file
D:\websiteshere\connectionwebcom\dev\starr\ftptest.htm

I can delete the file or set the FAILIFEXISTS="No" attribute and it does
nothing to help the matter. IS it possible that CF runs as its own user for
CFFTP and doesn't have permissions to write to my directory?

FYI, I have checked to see if write permissions are set. CFFILE works fine
in this same directory to create a file of the same name.

Any help or ideas of what to look for would be useful.

RE: Need help with a SQL query

2000-06-21 Thread Dave Watts

If all you want is a comma seperated list of the categories
for each item. Why not just add a "categories" field to the
item table? Store the comma seperated list there.

Because that would be denormalization of the data, which in a transaction
processing system is VERY VERY BAD. That's why we spend all sorts of money
on SQL Server, Oracle, and so on - so that we can store and manage
normalized data.

To illustrate some of the problems caused by denormalization, let's say that
you do store a comma-delimited list in a field. What if I want to find all
of the items within a specific category? I'd have to retrieve EVERY RECORD
from the item table, and iterate through the list. Alternatively, what if I
delete a category. Again, I'd have to retrieve every item, iterate through
each list, delete any entries for that category, then save that item.

Instead, if you have a one-to-many relationship, or a many-to-many
relationship, you should store each entity in its own proper table, and use
referential integrity to manage relationships between the tables.

Re: CFLOCK timing out - why?

I believe that the syntax for the cflock tag in 4.5 is different - you can
omit the type attribute. You just need the scope and the timout.

I am having a problem output nested infomation. I can't seem to get =

the children, and do this for many records in the db. If I use the =

before I can output the child records. Even using cfloop to display the =
child records doesn't seem to let me nest inside the outer cfoutput. =

RE: com object

2000-06-21 Thread Jason Egan

I thought I had seen here or elsewhere that cfexecute wasn't secure or
stable.. can't remember... but I would like the contents to be in a variable
rather than a file so that I won't have to go to the disk... but perhaps it
will be a temporary solution.

Have you heard anything negative about the tag?

Excuse any dups -

I have a JAVA application that works great from a dos prompt, but I need the
same (virtually) functionality written to a COM object --- I have the open
source available if it will help someone to write the COM object. Is there
anyone out there that can, or knows someone else that would be able to write
this COM object for me? Please contact me offlist to receive the code
and/or inquire of more detail.

Basically the JAVA app reads a file, and streams the information over an IP
address, receives a reply, and writes it to a file. I want basically the
same thing, except in variables rather than Files. The file information is
plain text.

Thank you,

RE: CFLOCK timing out - why?

2000-06-21 Thread Dave Watts

I believe that the syntax for the cflock tag in 4.5 is
different - you can omit the type attribute. You just need
 the scope and the timout.

The TYPE attribute isn't required, but the default value is exclusive, and
if you can use a readonly lock instead, that would be preferable. In this
case, it doesn't matter, but you will still use the TYPE attribute in CF
4.5.x.

RE: COM object/Interface problems

2000-06-21 Thread lsellers

Try... (I've forgotten which is which myself now)... um, CFX_ConsoleCommand.
It can capture the text output that occurs during the program execution.
Check out the text. Might show you if an error message is coming up.

--min

I gave it a try, and it didn't work.

The program runs, but nothing happens.

 Russel

 Try using cfx_spawn from Intrafoundation.com

RE: com object

2000-06-21 Thread Dave Watts

I thought I had seen here or elsewhere that cfexecute wasn't
secure or stable.. can't remember... but I would like the
contents to be in a variable rather than a file so that I won't
have to go to the disk... but perhaps it will be a temporary
 solution.

Have you heard anything negative about the tag?

CFEXECUTE, given that it allows CF to execute arbitrary commands at the
console, isn't very secure. Neither is CFFILE, or CFREGISTRY, or CFOBJECT
(which is what you'd have to use if you were using a COM object). However,
as long as your applications aren't compromised, and no one is able to
create and execute malicious CFML scripts, you've got nothing to worry about
with any of these tags.
