Can someone send me the code or send me some links to examples of code for
basic login. I am very new at CF and I need to have a login page. Then I
also need a session timeout variable to be used, so that if someone is
logged past that point they need to be re authenticated.

Also if possible how to put hooks into NT user manager as well.

Running CF under a different user

HI all,

I've got the service running under a user (cfserver) but I can't get any
odbc DataSources to work.
I have followed article 11859 in the Allaire KnowledgeBase. If I change back
to the system account all my odbc's work.
I think it is permissions thing ...anyone know?

Theoretically you can add IP addresses without rebooting, but in practice it
doesn't work. If I remember correctly the network card knows that there are
new IP addresses without rebooting, but not much else notices them *until*
you reboot.

Actually on Win 2k server, you can add an IP address and not reboot. Other

That means that your system is running low on resources. You could try
closing other programs but rebooting is usually the best way to clear this.

What the CF community needs is a single-source resource to list and rate
web hosting services, like CNET does
 (http://webservices.cnet.com/cgi/useropinions.asp?cat=Web+Hosting), but
specific to CF hosting. After hearing positive comments about ABI
Hosting on this list a few months back, I checked them out and finally
took the plunge, moving a couple accounts there recently. They offer a
sweet package, but the outage they announced Saturday caused me some
concern. Support has lagged and the one guy who seemed to be holding
things together (one of the principals) collapsed due to exhaustion and
is out of the picture for weeks. Kinda makes me leary about moving
 forward with them.

If there was a site where we could fill in a survey and rate things like
support issues, compare prices, and enter feedback, that would be great.
Or maybe one already exists and I just missed it?

Faster is Better

2000-06-26 Thread paul smith

Good Monday (for part of the world, anyway ;-):

Loading a page with 8 distinct tables (no table
within a table) with one table with 33 rows
dynamically generated from a CF Query, I'm
seeing Netscape4 load the page faster than IE4
(it seems faster, I didn't actually time it).

Is this a common finding?

How do folks insert time stamps to verify timing?

best, paul

Re: Help with Frames

2000-06-26 Thread Brandon Whitaker

...Sorry about the truncated response, accidentally sent it before I
intended to.

Anyway, as I was saying:

Get rid of the body /body tags. In a framset, the frameset tag
replaces the body tag; e.g.

html
head
  titleHello./title
/head
frameSet rows="*,*,*"

  frame name="row2" src="bar.html"
  frame name="row3" src="baz.html"
/frameSet
noFrames
This site requires frames. Upgrade your browser.
/noFrames
/html

Since there is no body tag, you should include the noframes tag containing
info for browsers without frame support.

You can set the source of all frames to the same page without a problem, as
you did in your demo code; of course, it'd kinda defeat the purpose, but
that's your call. :)

Actually, the more worrying thing is the people who aren't willing to

How difficult is it to install Norton Anti-Virus and use the LiveUpdate

RE: Faster is Better

2000-06-26 Thread Mark Warrick

If possible, turn on debugging in the CF Administrator. Otherwise, you could set a
time stamp at the beginning of the process, a time stamp at the end of the process,
and then do a datediff between the two time stamps to figure out how many milliseconds
it took to process.

If you need specific code, email me directly.

Re: Error Msg

2000-06-26 Thread Chris Giminez

I run a little program that shows my system resources available at all
times.
If I have IE, CF, Photoshop, Outlook and one or two others open at once (not
to mention all of the "start up programs"), I may drop as low as 5%. At that
point, I will commonly get the same error. Rarely do I get it if resources
are over 20%.

You can avoid the error by not getting too low on system resources. If you
do, close other programs before going back to Studio

Every once in a while, I get a message box that pops up in studio 4.5.1
saying "Canvas does not allow". I hit OK but it just keeps coming up. I
have to cycle studio to work again. It seems to happen most when I come
back to studio after looking at my page in the browser (IE).

 Anyone else getting this?

I just got in my copy of UltraDev and have just started working with it
for the last couple of days. So far I doubt it will replace CFStudio.
Rather it will replace the copy of Dreamweaver 3 that's on my machine.
The real impact of UD is going to be with the 3rd party extensions that
are just now starting to come out. For instance Massimo Foti is
developing a set of CF related extensions that look very promising, such
as a login page, various redirects based on an empty record set, a
repeated region and a CF OUTPUT. Over the next few months I figure these
extensions will be getting more and more sophisticated.

I expect UD to improve our overall work flow, not replace Studio.

CF Palm PQAs

2000-06-26 Thread Bryan Batchelder

this format, some or all of this message may not be legible.

--_=_NextPart_001_01BFDF96.9EAB1530

I am using CF to write the server side portions of a palm PQA (basically a
small web app). Right now I am trying to optimize some pages and here is
what happens:

1. I run the requested page in internet explorer. I save it to a
file. I then load this static page in the palm web clipping app and it is
903 bytes.

2. When I run the requested (dynamic) page through the web clipping
app, it is almost twice as large.1600 bytes. These pages are identical
as far as the end result output!

I am keeping in mind that the proxy server that Palm.net uses does
do compressionso is there any reason to think that a page served from CF
can't be compressed whereas a static page could?

I even tried renaming the static page with a .cfm and putting some
simple cfif's in there to see if it makes a differenceand it
doesn'tstill much smaller than the dynamic version.

The output from the dynamic page matches perfectly with the static
pagejust when loaded in the palm they are wildly different..

This is a big deal since the PalmVII only does ~2 kbps!

any help would be greatly appreciated

Executing Stored Procedures on AS/400 or DB2???

Hello all,
Has anyone been able to execute stored procedures on
AS/400? with ColdFusion?. Our Asp developers have been able to
execute the same procedures through ADO and it works fine for
them, for some reason i am not able to Pass parameters using
the CFSTOREDPROC,CFPROCPARAM (using client Express or DB2 Connect).
errors -- Invalid tokens, execute statement is not in a prepared
state etc.
Does anyone have a work around this.?
Appretitate any comments.

Thanks

RE: CF Palm PQAs

2000-06-26 Thread Jordon Saardchit

Are you using and Coldfusion style loops to build content in your files???
If so, then remember you are building strings of source which will
dramatically increase filesize (pending on the size of the loop). Example
being creating a bunch of OPTION tags from a query result set. File saved
will be MUCH smaller than the file read.

We are a portal site for a specific industry and we have a database of
companies that are in that industry. I am looking for a spider that I can
send to their URLs to retrieve email addresses and perform other functions
as well. We will then send them email explaining that they are listed in
our database and should come verify their listing for accuracy, etc.

The features I am looking for are:

* SQL database integration
   - pull URLs to be spidered from db
   - store retrieved email addresses in db
* Send email automatically based on some criteria
* Queue a number of URLs to spider in an automated fashion

Does anyone know of anything written in CF that can do this or something
close to it? An open source app that comes close could always be modified.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

RE: sorting a structure

2000-06-26 Thread Dan G. Switzer, II

Ric,

Unfortunately there isn't a very good way to sort a structure by the all key
values-which I think is what you're trying to do. If you need to sort the
keys alphabetically, you could use the StructKeyList() function with the
ListSort() function to sort the keys.

However, to sort by keys, you'd need to do something like this once your
structure is completed:

1) Create an new array
2) Mask the integer value to a common length, by prepending zeros to the
string (aka "1" becomes "001")
3) Next, use ListAppend(key, "|") (or whatever delimiter makes sense) to
append that element's key to the end of the value and store the new value
into a new array position
4) Repeat steps 2 and 4 for all elements in the structure.
5) Now you can use the ArraySort() function to sort the values in any manor
necessary.
6) The first element in the list will be the value of the key, the second
item will be the original key.

Like I said, it's not pretty, but there's not much else you can do. (Well,
I'm sure there are a 1,000 ways to get to the same result, but they'll all
revolve around convert the structure into some other data type...

I'm basicly reading in a bunch of words and

I don;t see how that can be.I simply read the file in IE (including all
source created by loops...as the CF template was being executed just as if a
palm was accessing it) and saved it to a file. The outputs should be the
same correct?

Are you using and Coldfusion style loops to build content in your files???
If so, then remember you are building strings of source which will
dramatically increase filesize (pending on the size of the loop). Example
being creating a bunch of OPTION tags from a query result set. File saved
will be MUCH smaller than the file read.

You can either get the keys as an array or a list, and then sort the list
using the appropriate sort function. For example, to get it as an array,
you could use:

CFSET KeyArray = ArraySort(StructKeyArray(structure),"textnocase","desc")

RE: Seeking CF spider tag or app

2000-06-26 Thread lsellers

We are a portal site for a specific industry and we have a database of
companies that are in that industry. I am looking for a spider that I can
send to their URLs to retrieve email addresses and perform other
 functions
as well. We will then send them email explaining that they are listed in
our database and should come verify their listing for accuracy, etc.

The features I am looking for are:

 * SQL database integration

Ask me again next week.

I've been (because I had to) upgrading the cf app I use as localhost. Among
all the other things it does is do all my bookmarking. Last week I added in
an HTML XML export function to it so it automagically updates my links
page at http://www.intrafoundation.com/links.html.

Right now it grabs all the meta data (description, keywords, author, email,
etc) via CFHTTP and lets me search against it and other nice things.

I've started to add in a little code to rip out the email and url's from the
pages as well as the meta data, etc. But that's not working yet.

Sec threw a zip of localhost.jun.2000.zip on the freeware page. It's a
place to start with. If you like yellow. ;-)

RE: automate tif to gif conversion CFX tag?

2000-06-26 Thread lsellers

Has anyone ever heard of a CFX tag (or reasonable facimile) which will
automatically convert tif images to gif thumbnails on-the-fly. I found a
CFX_GIFGD tag on the web, but i have yet to find anything for tif images.
 help!

You're not going to find any if it's not already been out for years. Unisys
is a bit like the mob when it comes to people writting code that uses their
LZW/GIF's. You'll have to jury-rig something like jasc image robot, etc to
do conversion for you.

Actually I just found the Fuse Ads info you can go here:
 http://www.e-zonemedia.com/fuseads

It was VERY easy to install I use SQL 7 as the back end. We run banners
on every page of a very high traffic site and it seems to work well.

Thanks! Looks very useful.

One question - does FuseAds offer client, i.e. advertiser login, so that
advertisers who have purchased an ad campaign can login and check the progress
of the campaign - impressions served, click thru's etc.?

Also - does it only support straight graphic banners, or will it support more
exotic multi-media type banners as well?

Adrian Cooper.

RE: All used ports ?

2000-06-26 Thread Dave Watts

Anybody knows how to find out the used ports of all processes
of an NT-Box? "Netstat" gives not the right information.

It should. If you just run "netstat", it should display all ports in use on
your machine, and the ports to which they're connected on the other machine.
If you run "netstat -a", it should display all the ports mentioned above,
and any listening ports on your machine.

If you need to know listening ports on another machine, you'll need a
port-scanning utility.

Re: Seeking CF spider tag or app

2000-06-26 Thread pan

If you like yellow. ;-)
 --min

tommy.mdb won't open, repair, etc. I'm getting 'unrecognized database format'.

Yes, I'm in the process of getting something like this started. The site
will be at http://www.cfhostguide.com. In a few weeks I'll be sending
general information about this to the cf-talk list. So stay tuned. If anyone
is interested, please feel free to send your email to me at

In your server directory /cfusion/bin/ the utilty is called cfcrypt, although
there is very little point in encrypting them as it is easily decrypted by several
tools including : http://shroom.dv8.org/bmp/crypt.cgi

Have fun,

RE: All used ports ?

2000-06-26 Thread lsellers

Anybody knows how to find out the used ports of all processes
of an NT-Box? "Netstat" gives not the right information.

If you need to know listening ports on another machine, you'll need a
 port-scanning utility.

On that note, CFX_TCPClient can be used to do port scanning. Not the fastest
thing in the world (and TCP only), but it works. It can be used within any
cfml page as well, which is handy.
