If you are developing on a local machine, or even the same one as the server, it is good practice to set the browser to check every time, that way you always see what you write :-) In the bigger world you have to force refreshes as you are going to bump into proxy servers and caches that don't seem to be aware that .cfm extensions are dynamic and cache the pages. One standard trick is to put a dummy url variable in, domain.com.au/page.cfm?x=1, so that the cache/proxy thinks it is a cgi type page and gets a fresh version. -- Yours, Kym ~ Paid Sponsorship ~ Get Your Own Dedicated Win2K Server! Re: OT JavaScript vs Flash for client side
Yes, Flash routines can be pirated. In fact there is a utility, I forget the name, that lets one openly browse any swf file for all subroutines and actionscripting. If you look on flashkit.com I'm sure you'll find it. caching problem? Session vars
I wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction..I thought I got this in an earlier post but I was wrong. Am trying to perform login authentication by writing the userid into a session variable. I am locking the writes and am doing automatic read locking on the server. In order to test I perform the following: 1. Goto functional page, (read session vars, redirects me to login page) 2. I login, set session vars, login=true 3. Goto page again, (and it doesnt read the current changed session vars) On step 3, if I hit shift-reload, then it reads the correct values. In IE 5, if I set the Settings "Check for newer version of stored pages" to "Every visit to the page" then the application works properly. I have also tried to set the meta expiration for each page in HTML so that caching doesn;t happen but this does not help. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what I may be doing wrong and what to to try next? -- Best regards, WayGee mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ Paid Sponsorship ~ Get Your Own Dedicated Win2K Server! Re: why doesn't this query work
1. 'X' is a string, 0 is a number. The value you use must match Field1's datatype. 2. In Access, both the "+" and "&" are concatenation operators; they differ in that the "+" will *add* values if either operand is numeric. Perhaps ODBC uses only the "+" for concatenation? -David On Thu, 28 Dec 2000 22:06:40 -0500 "Christopher P. OT JavaScript vs Flash for client side
I know this belongs on a Flash forum, but I haven't found a good one yet. Anyway, I assume that many programmers use Flash to augment their CF apps. So, here goes... I use a lot of JavaScript on the client side of my CF apps... it greatly improves the flow and user interface. The major problem with JavaScript is it can't really be hidden, leaving it open to hacking and being pirated. I have just begun playing with Flash 5 as a potential JavaScript replacement (at least for the more complex routines). To my inexperienced eye it appears that Flash is less open to hacking and pirating. If this is true, it could potentially reduce the duplicate server-side validation programming in CF (if I knew that the Flash client-side validation could not be hacked). I am reluctant to do this, Anyone know if Flash routines can be hacked or pirated? TIA Dick ~ Paid Sponsorship ~ Get Your Own Dedicated Win2K Server! RE: Using XML to create extremely "brandable" applications
Brian, I have not used a XSL/CF Combo to create the effect of a skinable/multilingual application. However, I have built these types of applications using ColdFusion and a couple of custom tags that I developed. What type of overhead issues are you experiencing? Thanks, David Sparkman Application Development Team Leader Weberize, Inc. http://www.weberize.com -Original Message- From: Brian Bray [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, December 28, 2000 6:44 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: Using XML to create extreemly "brandable" applications I am creating an application that will be "branded" for use by several different sites. It will also need to be multi-lingual eventually. I build a set of custom tags that does a pretty slick job doing variable interpolation and such to generate different brands and languages on the fly. But it has some fairly stiff overhead. What I'm thinking of doing is modifiying the entire application to generate XML instead of HTML and then dynamically changing which XSL sheet gets applied for each page view according to what brand and language is to be used. The problem is of course that I cant assume everyone is using IE so I need to have a means to merge the XML and XSL on the server side. I've used the Microsoft DOM objects before to do XML and XSL processing and merging, however that would require storing the entire output into some sort of variable which could get ugly. I was also thinking about wraping the entire application in a custom tag that would use the GeneratedContent variable but I dont think I want the overhead of custom tags and there might be some situations where that might not work. I'm thinking that the best solution would be to have some sort of server that processes the output of a CF template and merges it with the XSL before it pipes it off to the browser. why doesn't this query work
I'm setting up a new computer (Win 2K Professional) and some queries that work on other computers do not work on this one. The problem queries involve concatenation or setting constants in the query. The problem happens with Access 97 and 2000 databases. Running CF 4.5.1 Professional. Select Field1 + Field2 as Field3 Select 'X' as Field1. (but Select 0 as Field1 works) Select Field1 & Field2 as Field3... All of the queries work in Access, just not in . All the queries work on my old Win NT computer which is basically running the same software and they work on another Windows 2000 computer. What is happening is that the browser just hangs when the query is run. I have to hit stop on the browser and then stop/start the CF service. Any ideas would be appreciated. Christopher P. If you need to include a text file, use CFINCLUDE within the body of the CFMAIL. ---mark -- Mark Warrick Phone: (714) 547-5386 Efax.com Fax: (801) 730-7289 Personal Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Personal URL: http://www.warrick.net Business Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Business URL: http://www.fusioneers.com ICQ: 346566 -- > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, December 28, 2000 4:20 PM > To: CF-Talk > Subject: Re: CFMAIL > > > So this will not mail the attachment, but input the file contents in the > body of the message. RE: CFMAIL
You're right Howie. The text should be included in the body of the message. Sorry, I thought that was obvious. ---mark -- Mark Warrick Phone: (714) 547-5386 Efax.com Fax: (801) 730-7289 Personal Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Personal URL: http://www.warrick.net Business Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Business URL: http://www.fusioneers.com ICQ: 346566 -- > -Original Message- > From: Howie Hamlin [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, December 28, 2000 4:01 PM > To: CF-Talk > Subject: Re: CFMAIL > > > This is not a matter of the client not knowing how to use email. > There are > lots of email users out there that use text based email clients. Re: CFMAIL
Thanks, Do you know if the InFusion iMS mail server will send attachments in ascii format? I am looking at starting to use it. This for my webhosting company to send domain registration templates to Network Solutions, we started selling our domains for $15/year and it is getting busy. RE: This is weird
If you are inserting into a text field make sure your value has single quotes around it. 'retreat' instead of retreat SQL = "INSERT INTO CommunityEvents (CommunityEventID, CommunityEventName, LastUpdate) VALUES(HPRO-12-28-2000, 'retreat', {ts '2000-12-28 18:42:56'})" -Original Message- From: sebastian palmigiani [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, December 28, 2000 6:50 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: This is weird I am getting an ODBC error message. Using XML to create extreemly "brandable" applications
I am creating an application that will be "branded" for use by several different sites. Has anyone done any similar implementations? Re: CFMAIL
So this will not mail the attachment, but input the file contents in the body of the message. Is this correct?
