Re: Help - MS Word outputfrom CF?

2002-02-05 Thread Kay Smoljak

A word of warning if you go this path - if you type CF statements into
your word doc, sometimes word picks up on these and inserts them into
the document summary which then is written into the header. This can
cause CF errors when the file is created by cfcontent, and it's really
frustrating because it's hard to debug.

I've found that WordPad generates much nicer (cleaner) rtf code - like
less than a fifth of the junk I found... But it doesn't support images
in as nice a way as Word does. Someone suggested using WordPerfect but I
don't have a copy so I've never tested it.

Possible bug in StructFindKey() in CF Ent 4.5.1 SP-2 on Win NT4/2000 Server?

2002-02-05 Thread Colin Fyfe

Hi folks,

Before I start, sorry the length of this post, but I'm at the end of
my tether with this one...

I've been ripping chunks of hair out over the past two days trying
to diagnose a problem with one out of two near identical blocks of
code in an application I am working on.

The code forms a small part of the set-up routine to export content
from one server for staging/syndication to another - it's essentially
an early prototype for a larger system.

The code that is troubling me basically does this:

- extracts one or more records from a content database
- loops over each record in the query result set, and
+ deserialises the WDDX-encoded structure
  stored in szContent
+ searches for a particular key ("filename" in
  this structure
+ adds the value contained in the filename element
  to a list created outwith the loop
- loop ends

Sample (slightly simplified) structures are shown below:

IMAGE ASSET ALIGN
CAPTION
FILENAME
HEIGHT
WIDTH

FEATURE BODY
TEASER
TEASER IMAGE (embed the "IMAGE ASSET" struct above)
TITLE

Okay, looking at the simplified psuedo-code above, here's what
works:
- the database query is fine
- the loop kicks off great
+ the WDDX is deserialised back into a struct
+ an error is thrown, on the SECOND LOOP ITERATION
  when StructFindKey is called and...
+ .. we don't get here
- loop crashes out

The error message is: "Cannot assign result to symbol
Variables.stAssetVersion"
where Variables.stAssetVersion is the name of the structure recreated each
time in the loop I call CFWDDX on szContent.

This is accompanied by an "error has occurred while processing the
expression
Variables.stAssetVersion=CFTempOnlyForSetVariableNeverUseThisNameInYourCFMLC
ode
1223335654321" which we all know and love...

I know it's not CFWDDX which is causing it (despite the error message above)
because I can remove all the code following it, replace it with a CF_DUMP (a
custom tag we use for CF 4.5 based on CFA_DUMP in Spectra) and it shows me
a struct - not WDDX.

The error is only introduced when I call StructFindKey. Bizarrely though, it
works the first time round throwing the error on the second loop iteration.
Is StructFindKey somehow locking the struct it searches through and not
releasing.

I have replaced the call to StructFindKey with a collection loop which
basically
does the same job and even creates the same array/struct combo such that the
code
below the (replaced) call to StructFindKey works as expected.

Now for the real killer, this loop is performed twice - once for the
"content
created" query and the second time for the "content modified" query. The
loop
including StructFindKey _always_ works for the modified content, but it
_always_ fails for the created content.

I've tried swapping the loops around (doing the created loop before and
after
the modified loop but to no avail); I've stripped all the code right back
removing all but the call to CFWDDX and StructFindKey; I've tried locking
the
code obsessively; I've switched CF to "Single Threaded Sessions" and that
made
no difference; I've removed the "modified" loop so it's only the "created"
loop which runs; I've serialised the query results into WDDX, stored them in
files and read these in before the loop in case the query was somehow
affecting
it. The final straw - I moved the test files (which use the WDDX queries,
not the database) to a different dev location with a new Application.cfm to
ensure that the app was not somehow affecting the loops and that still
didn't
work.

I moved my test package to a different server I had access to (WinNT Server,
same version of CF) and it failed there too...

I've got a workaround for the problem using my manual "struct find key" but
that
limits its flexibility as it only handles one nested struct level - I don't
want to write a recursive custom tag (or UDF for CF5 which I've not
installed
yet) for something that looks like a bug in CF 4.5.1 SP-2.

I've searched Macromedia, the Knowledge Base, the Forums, the CF-Talk
archive
and Google Groups but I seem to be pretty much alone in this one.

Would anyone (a) have any ideas on what is going on and how to fix it and/or
(b) be prepared to take a look at my test package (which I can supply if
needed) to see if it affects you too?

Thanks in advance,

Colin

P.S. Sorry again for the length of this post!

OT: Anybody heard of this?

2002-02-05 Thread Dave Hannum

I has some spam in my email this morning. It immediately popped me to a
porn site. What it did though, was reset my start page through their
server, and I now, cannot reset my start page. It's greyed out. The URL of
this scum company is:
http://www.duolaimi.net (don't click on the URL)
My start page URL now looks like
http://www.duolaimi.net/d.asp?http://myURLhere.com

If I go into Internet Options, it does not allow me to change the Start Page
settings. What's the fix for this? Anybody know?

Thanks,
Dave

RE: Anybody heard of this?

2002-02-05 Thread John Cummings

Dave,

Found this on Google, though I didn't have the key (probably a different
version of IE):

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel]

Double-click the "HomePage" value and change it to "00 00 00 00"

Also, you can manually change the start page back via the reg by going
to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
and changing the value of "Start Page" to whatever you want it to be.

HTH,
JC

That's because cfa_dump is smart enough to detect wddx and
auto-deserialize it. So when you dump wddx, you will see the 'real' form
of it.

Please share the code - what you can anyway!

I'd run regedit and search for that string in your registry... be
interesting to see what pops up...

Updating Database Date using Coldfusion

the following error

WHERE eventid = #form.eventid#

DECLARE new_text LONG;

RE: Help - MS Word outputfrom CF?

2002-02-05 Thread Matthew R. Small

Yes, that's one way of doing things, but if you just generate a HTML doc
for later printing by word, then you can format it any way you want -
images, colors, tables - as much information as you want and without
having to jump through hoops to make it look right. But your needs may
be different than mine. :-)

Hello,

I know this is an easy one, but I can't get it to work. How can I have
the current date display as Month, Day, Year? The DateFormat parameter
doesn't accept a mask as one CF book reads: #DateFormat(Now," dd,
")#

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

clarification:
Now() is a function.
Now is a variable. In the case of your error -- the variable the
parser was
looking for, 'Now' did not exist.

Content Management

2002-02-05 Thread Brendan Avery

Anyone out there use special software for production-cycle and
source-code-management other than Visual Source Safe? I've only taken a
peek at MM's SiteSpring. Has anyone built a custom system for doing this?
Is anyone interested in building one as a team?

Just curious.

Oh and also I found a pretty cool program for ~$30 bucks that's really
useful for mapping out your program architecture (variables and logic
branches and stuff) http://www.visual-mind.com/ ; it's kind of like
natrificial software's "the brain" but it has far superior import/export
capability. Just FYI -- I thought my fellow developers could get some use
out of it.

RE: Updating Database Date using Coldfusion

2002-02-05 Thread Hays, Duncan

Are you sure the problem is with the date? Do "formatted_date" and
"format_date" have a proper format? I would make sure the CF debugging
is
on, then you can see the SQL being sent and try in in SQL Plus or TOAD.
(If
you don't have TOAD go to www.quest.com. It compares to SQL+ like CF
Studio
to Notepad.)

Dave,

Found this on Google, though I didn't have the key (probably a different
version of IE):

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control
Panel]

Double-click the "HomePage" value and change it to "00 00 00 00"

Also, you can manually change the start page back via the reg by going
to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
and changing the value of "Start Page" to whatever you want it to be.

My start page URL now looks like

I don't know where the article is, but this was covered at a DC CFUG quite a
while back, so you might look here:
http://www.figleaf.com/figleafhome/cfug/cfugfeb99.zip

There isn't too much to it, though - simply create your Access parameter
queries, then call them using CFSTOREDPROC as if they were stored
procedures, and don't use the RETURNCODE attribute of CFSTOREDPROC.

I've looked at Sitespring too, and while I think it's pretty interesting, I
don't think it's there yet as what you'd call a "production cycle" tool -
the way it handles version control is automatic (which is nice) but it
doesn't handle the concept of builds.

Rather than reinventing the wheel, you might just take a look at CVS, which
is what I'm doing right now.

That is because you want to insert a duplicate profile_ID. This should
not be possible in your application. You will have to re-think the way

db. I wish to perform an operation at run-time which necessitates the use
of the PK field name.

The operation is as follows. The purpose of this code is to create a log of
user activity on the database as a whole. I want to store the record they
altered/added in the log. form.userid has been hard coded. it should
contain "form.whatever the primary key for the active table is". Active
table being defined in another variable "auditQueryTable".

INSERT INTO applicationaudit
(username,action,querytype,querytable,recordid,datetime)
VALUES
('#session.username#','#auditAction#','#auditQueryType#','#auditQueryTable#'
,
#IIF(auditQueryType EQ "update", DE("form.userid"),
DE("LAST_INSERT_ID()"))#,
#CreateODBCDateTime(Now())#)

What I need to know is, is there a way of obtaining the name of the PK
field. Also, does SHOW return a usable result set? It has been suggested
this might be a valid support case, so if you guys don't know, I'll put it
to the programming team at mySQL.com and post the results here for your
reference.

Kind regards,

Martin.

You can "require" a select in a drop down to be selected by either
validating the field with javascript, if you want to use a title option

like "select an option" as the first item, or by creating the select wi

function validate(myForm){

Option 3

//or to do it without javascript

Unfortunately, that "example" is probably the worst instance of poor coding
you're going to find within the documentation. It uses CFTRY/CFCATCH
unnecessarily, and won't even work if you run it, if I recall correctly.

The CGI variable itself may not exist, in the sense that the browser didn't
create a Referer header, but CF doesn't care. If you run this:

Have you looked at many of the alternatives for implementing source-control

them would be of great value. The topic came up on one the CF lists recently
but no one that spoke up was using anything other than VSS.

cfscript vs markup...

2002-02-05 Thread Bill Killillay

Hello list,

I have two pieces of code and I can't figure out why one works and the other
does not. The regular markup works perfect, so I thought I would move it to
CFSCRIPT, which is normally not a problem, but on barely 3 hours of sleep
it's one today... anyway here they both are followed by the error:

THIS WORKS:

THIS BLOWS:
loopCnt = arraylen(holderary);
for (i = 1; i lte loopCnt; i = i + 1){
if (dateformat(createodbcdate(now()) ,"m/dd/yy") lte
dateformat(holderary[i][1] ,"m/dd/yy")){
if (dateformat(createodbcdate(now()) ,"m/dd/yy") eq
dateformat(holderary[i][1] ,"m/dd/yy")){
loopto = (holderary[i][2]-1) +
listlen(holderary[i][3],"|");
loopst = holderary[i][2];
cnt = 1;
for (ii = loopst; ii lte loopto; ii + 1){
if (newtime lte listgetat(holderary[i][3],
cnt, "|")){
cnt = cnt + 1;
asxnum = ii-1;
break;
} else {
cnt = cnt + 1;
asxnum = ii;
}
}
}
}
}

THIS IS THE ERROR:
In function ListGetAt(list, index [, delimiters]) the value of index, which
is 4, is not a valid index for the list given as a the first argument (this
list has 3 elements). Valid indexes are in the range 1 through the number of
elements in the list

Any idea what gives?

Thanks,
Bill K.

Easy way to loop over first x items of long list

RE: Possible bug in StructFindKey() in CF Ent 4.5.1 SP-2 on Win NT4/2000 Server?

2002-02-05 Thread Colin Fyfe

Hi Raymond,

> Can you show us the code please?

I've uploaded my test stubs in a zip file which includes
the two serialised queries at the following URL:

http://www.networkbuild.com/temp/struct_find_key_test.zip

The code is simple, and pretty raw too. To simulate the
database queries, I've provided the result sets for both queries
in WDDX files. An Application.cfm is provided which loads in the
WDDX files and converts the contents back into queries. Three
templates are provided - one which does not search the struct,
one which searches using StructFindKey and one which searches
manually. I've also included the two WDDX files suffixed with
"_CS" which are the same WDDX packets after being fed through
code sweeper.

>> [CF_DUMP] shows me a struct - not WDDX.

> That's because cfa_dump is smart enough to detect wddx and
> auto-deserialize it. So when you dump wddx, you will see the
> 'real' form of it.

No I realise that - I meant to say it really shows it as a struct
without a border, whereas WDDX packets are shown as structs with
a solid black border. So it _is_ deserialising it successfully.
I should add that some of the many test iterations added in calls
to Len( szContent ) and IsWDDX( Trim( szContent )) before
attempting to deserialise it.

Any insight you can provide will be most appreciated,

Colin

Write flat files based on HUGE query

2002-02-05 Thread Willy Ray

I have a huge query that takes about 15 minutes to run. I'm a small
college, and I'm pulling data on my faculty and their class schedules,
office hours for posting on the web site. My legacy administrative
database was never designed for servicing the web, and it is just a
terribly long request to get all of this data. Currently, I'm caching the
query for a week, and that seems to work pretty well. However, I'm
getting requests for changes to this application, and I'm considering a
re-write.

One of the ways I'm thinking about doing this is to run my mongo-query,
and then loop through the results writing html, or cfm, files as I go. It
would probably be about 300 pages. Is it like this:

RE: Content Management

2002-02-05 Thread Kurt Ward

CVS is a great tool; Most if not all Open Source projects use CVS (ie.
Sourceforge, etc.).
There are some GUI apps for CVS, and some IDE's have "built in" access such
as Forte.

Having never used VSS, I can't comment on it. But knowing who produces it
would lead me to
believe it probably has some "features" that I wouldn't find appropriate.

Have you looked at many of the alternatives for implementing source-control
in a webdev environment? Any opinions/feedback you might be able to offer on
them would be of great value. The topic came up on one the CF lists recently
but no one that spoke up was using anything other than VSS.

Selecting many records at once

2002-02-05 Thread Nick Betts

Afternoon fellow CF'ers around the globe...

I have an app that retrieves thousands of records from a database,
looping thru them to display to screen.
The query takes forever and the page times out. Can anyone suggest a
way to prevent this by outputting the data in manageable chunks or is
"paging" preferable?

TIA. Nick

And if you expect your list to ever be shorter than your desired subset, you
could dynamically set your "to" attribute using the iif function so you
don't error out:

#listgetat(variables.list,i)#

Although that might be overkill for your situation. You will probably want
to verify my syntax as well, it's probably wrong.

We use CVS, but I am not pleased with it. We have a few problems with the
windows client not working correctly, overwriting files, and not merging
correctly.

We have found that many of these problem are solved when the user pays very
clse attention. If you use Sun's Forte Programs, they have a built-in CVS
Client that works very well.

You can use CFQUERY's BLOCKFACTOR attribute to control how many records
are
pulled from the database at one. (instead of taking them out one at a
time).

If we're talking thousands of records, braeking it in several pages
would be
my suggestion (next page, previous page).

It is all about the right tool for the job. Some sites look horrible in
Mozilla so I pick IE. Sometimes I need to debug a site with a lot of
frames and I will take Mozilla because it can do "Open frame in new
window" for existing frames. If standard compliance is required I even
use Amaya.
But in order to read the mailfolder with all the mail that gets
classified as 'Suspicious' by the mail filter I will choose Mozilla over
Outlook + IE at any time.

Re: Easy way to loop over first x items of long list

2002-02-05 Thread Bryan Stevenson

and to further what Larry said

To just loop over the first 3 items you CFSET a variable called LoopCounter to 0
(zero) before the
loop. Then you increment it inside the loop (LoopCounter + 1). When LoopCounter hits
3 you use
CFBREAK to break out of the loop.

Seasonal Content

2002-02-05 Thread Sean Daniels

I want to have some seasonal content in an app I am building. The content
will reside in a db and I want to query for it based on today's date. I am
clear on how I could do this for a single year: simply put fields to search
on for start and end dates and look for records where getdate() between
start_date and end_date. However, next year these dates would be invalid.

I'm sure there is some slick way to do this computation based on the current
day of the year (1-365), but I'm not sure of how exactly to store the valid
range. I could have content valid from day 27 through day 189 of the same
year. Or, I could have content valid from day 325 through day 4 of the
following year. So a simple "between start_day and end_day" won't do the
trick.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Write flat files based on HUGE query

2002-02-05 Thread Mark A. Kruger - CFG

I think you should look at solving your backend problem first - perhaps a
data export to a different rdbms , or perhaps you should be running more,
smaller queries. The paging thing would probably work, but I'm guessing it
would be clunky and it would cause some of the same problems you have now
(data not up to date etc.).

Macromedia in talks with Microsoft??

2002-02-05 Thread S R

Are these rumors true? and if so, what do you think it will mean for the
future of ColdFusion if Microsoft was to acquire Macromedia? I got this info
from fuckedcompany.com which has been a pretty reliable source in the past.

Passing HTML to a FORM

2002-02-05 Thread Paul Giesenhagen

I have a developer that is having a tough time with an HTML FORM and
submitting HTML text via hidden form fields.

He has a form that has two parts, one an html designer inputs HTML text into
a textarea field. The other part of the form, accepts product ids and then
the system will generate default HTML text for those product id's.

Now, both of these sniplets of HTML have to be passed over from our Cold
Fusion Servers to the Java Servers via form submit. But it is breaking.
What is the best way to send over HTML code via hidden form fields to
another application that needs that HTML text.

I am sure there is an easy answer...

Thanks

Re: Content Management

After few quirks in the beginning, I was really happy with CVS. It does
everything you want it to - merge, update and commit files into the
production environment. It's primarily a UNIX tool but I think there's a
program called win_cvs that does the same thing but on the windows side.

Anyone know about the win_cvs software?

Has anyone tried the software mentioned in the recent CFDJ? Code Co-op? It
was neat that instead of being client/server based - you checked
in/out files via an email system, the benefit there being that remote
users didn't need access through firewalls, etc in order to access
files.

 They have a trial version I just haven't had any free time to try it
 out :)

If I understand what you're looking for (some web space that would allow you
to do some CF), you can try http://members.evolt.org/ . You can get free
web space there for testing out Cold Fusion and PHP (there may be other
features as well). You can't host a site there, since it's only to be used
for learning/testing.

RE: Seasonal Content

2002-02-05 Thread Cantrell, Adam

Since the first day of every year is January 1 (I think, I hope), you should
be able to just use dateadd() to get your date range based on the two
day-of-year values you specify (ie. 525 - 4). If the second value is less
than the first, you know to add 365 to it in your addition. You can get the
current year using year(now()).

Does that work?

Hello cf-talk,

  Just wondering how many in here bother to resell webspace. By this I
  mean getting a large hosting plan at some host, then reselling the
  space to your clients. Typical reselling plan that many webhosts
  seem to push.

  If you do, does it seem worth your while? What can one expect to
  make on this stuff. $15 per client?

Best regards,
 Jeff F.

I've got a table with details of pages in a site. There's a pageID,
and also a parentID. If the page has no parent, this is 0, otherwise
it's the same as the pageID of the parent.

What's the deal with having Foreign Keys that aren't exactly er...
foreign?! I pretty much know this is "doable" cos I've done it
before, but I'm trying to define the relationship with Access
2000's GUI, and I can't seem to get it to recognise parentID
as being related to the pageID in the same table.

Any ideas?

I don't think that the Access Relationship Builder GUI supports
self-referential relationships, or "fishhooks" as they're sometimes called.
I think you'd have to build that manually, using SQL, and even that may not
be supported by Access for all I know.

Re: Getting results from a checkbox list...

2002-02-05 Thread phumes1

Hi,

I'm displaying a list of fonts from a database.

SELECT  sti, ID
FROMfontsti
ORDER BY sti

 #GetFontFamily.sti#

Which displays something like:

[ X ]  aachen
[   ]  accolade
[ X ]  adelon
[ X ]  amelia

and so on...

My question is, how can I display just the fonts that are checked above in
another template for further processing.
