Not a criticism at all. It's an excellent resource, thanks a lot for putting that
together and for making it available.

RE: Using a custom tag within the same custom tag

2003-06-13 Thread Brad Roberts
Watch out for endless loops, where the tag calls itself indefinitely. I
usually put some preventative code in there so that it doesn't execute for X
amount of time.

For instance:

The tag ran over 1 minute

RE: Dreamweaver MX -- grayed out component tab

2003-06-13 Thread Stacy Young
Ya that's been my biggest gripe about DWMX. It tends to "decide" what u
should and shouldn't have access to...like it's trying to hold ur hand
so you don't make a mistake.

Sometimes u just wanna pop open a DB table and reference something...but
no! You gotta open a cfm/cfc document first! Hehe...if ur in code
view...it should be 'hands off'...let the coder decide...

Anyway, go ahead and post the setup u got, maybe we can help... ;)

And is that a CF site? That's important, and you have to have set up the
site correctly (configured a testing server pointing to a CF server).

Another issue is that DWMX is sensitive to the "type" of the template
that
you've opened. It has to be a CF page to allow access to the CF
components
tab (and the database tab, etc.) Is the page that you've opened either
an
already saved cfm page, or if new, did you use File>New>Dynamic
Page>ColdFusion?

It's possible that when DWMX opens it's opening with a default type of
static HTML. One way to know what type of file you have (especially in
an
unsaved file), is to look at the toolbars at the top right. If they
include
"CFML Basic", "CFML Flow", and "CFML Advanced" (at the end of the list
starting with "common", "layout", "text"), then DWMX thinks you're
working
on a CF template. If not, it doesn't, and some of the things you're
trying
to use may not work as expected.

Re: What database to use???

2003-06-13 Thread Doug White
There was a recent thread where different folks were talking about their
favorite database to use when building web applications, and I have put together
an extensive feature comparison between the various flavors available, that goes
quite a bit beyond the sales hype. Some of you just might be surprised.

You can view the feature and performance comparisons at the following link:

The HTMLEditFormat() and JSStringFormat() are to format the header properly for inclusion in the JS and for display. The problem is one of size. A large header will not be loaded into a JS alert() which means I need to create the popup window myself. I like the way that the alert shows the header both in size and font. Have you configured the RDS settings for this site in particular? Go
into EDIT sites and verify you've got the right coordinates for ur cfmx

If that doesn't work maybe u can post what you've got in ur settings...?

You have problems with your xml document..
the correct document should be something like

  FALSE

You should be able to parse the above fine.

Re: Is there an alternative to CFTREE?

2003-06-13 Thread jonhall
I've built a cfc wrapper for xtree if you are interested, shoot me an
email if so. It would take some modification to get it to work though
as it currently works a custom category (serial number method) scheme
from a database. I've been working a generalizing it more, it's just
not there yet. It would be capable of everything you mention though.

Re: OT Javascript popups and CF

2003-06-13 Thread Michael Dinowitz
The text is the full header of an email message, not an url (I could post it but
its ugly). It's the length of that header text thats giving me a problem.
Actually, I'm playing with it and may be able to do it 'by hand'. What I need
now is some font information on alert boxes. What font is used? What size? Is
there a 'standard' CSS for it? etc.

The url is the spam-watch program for people to go into and play with. ;)

You should be able to add newlines (\n) to break up the string. Since
it's a URL, you might have to muck about finding a space near your line
length limit to insert the newline.

RE: Using a custom tag within the same custom tag

2003-06-13 Thread Barney Boisvert
As long as you always have a base case where the recursion stops, you're
set. This is pretty much the only way to go if you need recusion on CF4.5
and less. If you're on CF5 or better, using a UDF is probably a wiser
choice for performance reasons, although CF5 UDFs are CFSCRIPT only, so you
can't do everything you might need to.

Using a custom tag within the same custom tag

2003-06-13 Thread Michael E. Carluen
I was wondering if there is any risk on a custom tag that essentially uses
itself.

Example:

On test1.cfm

On foo_tag.cfm

I am using this method to have an unlimited cascading effect on a set of
parent/child data, and it works. I was just wondering if am exposing
myself to any potential problems.

How to call CFSTOREDPROC without parms

2003-06-13 Thread Greg McDaniel
I have a simple stored procedure in Oracle that takes no parms and
returns no data.

I can run this proc in sqlplus, works great.

Run this from Coldfusion

returns:
ORA-06550: line 1, column 18: PLS-00222: no function with name 'CLEANUP'
exists in this scope ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored.

  Oracle 7 drivers.
Only two tables exist in this database.
  Procedure compiles successfully and runs.

Here is the procedure:

CREATE OR REPLACE
PROCEDURE "CLEANUP"
AS
BEGIN
delete from bdcd
where cfid in (
select b.cfid
from bdgd b
where b.create_date <= trunc(sysdate)
);
insert into bdgd
select b.cfid, trunc(sysdate + 2)
from bdcd b
where b.cfid not in (
select a.cfid from bdgd a
where a.cfid = b.cfid
);
delete from bdgd
where create_date <= trunc(sysdate);
commit;
END;
/

Any help?

Thanks,

Greg M

Is there an alternative to CFTREE?

2003-06-13 Thread
Does anyone know of anything other then CFTREE that will allow a user to
select a directory from a GUI?

All the custom tags I've found on devX are wrappers around CFTREE. I'd
prefer an applet-free alternative. Maybe something in Flash?

The only requirement is that it must work within the context of an HTML form
(i.e return a value to a form field).

Thanks!

OT: Big problem with CF product page on MM's website

2003-06-13 Thread Earl, George
I'm having a problem with the ColdFusion product page at MM's website.

If I have the Flash Player installed I cannot see the list of links that
goes down the right side of this page:

http://www.macromedia.com/software/coldfusion/

All I get is a really tall empty text box that stretches the vertical length
of the page where the links should be. Very frustrating!

If I remove the Flash Player the page displays with the links in place, but
I get a warning across the top of the page that I may be missing components
I need to properly display the page (i.e., the Flash Player is missing). If
I reinstall the Flash Player the links go away to be replaced once again by
the empty text box.

Also, after I install the Flash Player it doesn't show up in MSIE's
\Tools\Internet Options\General\Settings\View Objects window like I think it
is supposed to, but it seems to be installed and functioning . . .

Does anyone else get this same behavior? Any ideas why this page would be
behaving like this? Is there a setting in IE that could be interfering with
the installation or operation of the Flash Player?

I have administrator rights on my workstation. I have IE 6.0 on Win2K with
Flash Player 6,0,79,0. A co-worker has IE 5.01 on WinNT with Flash Player
6,0,79,0 and he cannot see the list of links either . . .

George

Have you saved the file as something.cfc yet, or is it still untitled?

Most of those tabs are grayed out when you dont have file opened in the site
you are currently working on. So make sure you have a file opened in the
edit area.

I'm trying to go through Macromedia's CFC tutorial (this step:

but I can't follow, because my component tab's contents are grayed

Any insights?

Nevermind - I recreated the Homesite Project using my personal development
webroot as the project folder, then mapped to source control - it now checks
files out where I want them. Working great now.

Dreamweaver MX -- grayed out component tab

I'm trying to go through Macromedia's CFC tutorial (this step:

out. I suspect there might be a problem with the site setup, but don't
know.

Any insights?

Can anyone recommend a utility (preferably free) that one can use to
load test a web server?

Basically simulate http requests?

I remember one a long time ago developed by SGI I think called WebStone.

also anything that helps test performance of CF on one server versus
another would be nice.

RE: Drop User in SQL Server

2003-06-13 Thread Marlon Moyer
Try running this sp in the affected database:

sp_change_users_login 'auto_fix','[username here]'

This will fix most orphaned users in the database. An orphan user is a user
who was in a database, then usually the database was copied to a new server.
On the new server, the user is recreated, but the id of the newly created
user and the database do not resolve correctly, even though the names are
the same.

Perhaps you have forgotten to specify the default database. If you forget
to assign a default databse to the user you will connect successfully to the
default default (i.e. master) database - and you won't find your tables.

Subject: Drop User in SQL Server

This may be better posted on a SQL board, but I know there are a lot of SQL
Server gurus out there and I need your help!

A client's web host just had to reinstall SQL Server 2000, and I am having a
hard time getting a former user name to work properly, or setup a new user
name.

If I setup a new user name, the datasource appears to work fine in CF 5
admin. Then when I try a page I get a message: "ODBC Error Code = S0002
(Base table not found) [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL
Server]Invalid object name 'grpdes'."

When I log into RDS in CF Studio the old user name shows up in the
datasource; for example: "BandD.grpdes" ("BandD" is the old user name.)

I've tried to delete the user name, but it will not remove itself from the
"Public" role. If I try and recreate the user name I get the message: "Error
15023: User or role 'BandD' already exists in the current database."

I've tried to detach the database, create the user (temporally attaching the
user name to another database), re-attach the database and assign the user
name to the database, but I get the "Error 15023 ..."

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Stan Winchester

Installing MX for JRun with no context root

2003-06-13 Thread Dave Carabetta
I have installed CFMX for J2EE for JRun many times using "cfusion" as my
context root. However, now I need to do some installations with no context
root ("/") and I can't get MX to successfully start up for the life of me.

I have successfully run the installer using the EAR option, and exploded the
EAR to view the application.xml file to confirm that the context-root node
said "/". I then went and deleted the default-ear directory from under my
server instance to eliminate the potential context root clash betwen the
default application and CFMX. This leaves only the SERVER-INF directory. I
then copy the cfusion.war file into my server root directory (i.e.,
/opt/jrun4/servers/mysite) and explode the archive. That process seems to go
without a problem (although I have a stange feeling that might be where my
problem is). I also see that I don't need to explode the rds.war file
because I'm not using a context root.

I then follow the Updater 3 Release Notes to get MX in synch with JRun and
then try and start the server. But I constantly get the following startup
errors:

06/13 16:01:26 info JRun Naming Service listening on *:2911

Server mysite ready (startup time: 6 seconds)

What am I missing? Does anybody have a good instruction set to get MX
(preferably on JRun) running with no context root? As I said, I've
successfully installed using "cfusion" as a context root dozens of times,
but "/" is stumping me.

As a test, I created a sub-directory called cfusion and exploded the archive
there and everything worked fine. But the whole point is to not have to type
/cfusion in my URLs.

Thanks in advance,
Dave.

OT: Homesite+ VSS working folder

2003-06-13 Thread Cantrell, Adam
Does anyone know how I can change the working directory in Homesite+

When I go to "Map Project to Source Control" I select the VSS database, and
then it asks to set a working directory and select the VSS project. I can
see the working directory but it's grayed out and I can't change it.

I'd like to set it to check files out to my personal development webroot
like how I have it set up using the VSS client. Is there a registry entry or
anything?

Adam.

SOT: Web Server Load Testing

2003-06-13 Thread Chris Alvarado
Can anyone recommend a utility (preferably free) that one can use to
load test a web server?

Basically simulate http requests?

I remember one a long time ago developed by SGI I think called WebStone.

also anything that helps test performance of CF on one server versus
another would be nice.

Thanks all,

If you are doing a security audit be sure to check netstat -a, for a
list of open ports. Also get fport utility from www.foundstone.com as it
maps ports to processes.

Check out the NSA documentation for securing Win2K:
http://www.nsa.gov/snac/index.html (part 3, 4, 8 and 14 esp.)

In my Security Configuration Template I have the following section for
services on a Win2K server for running CF MX. The server is not part of

Store all the country codes in a database. Presuming a table named
countrycodes with the fields code and country, you can pull out the the
right one using:

SELECT cc.country
FROM countrycodes cc
WHEREcc.code = substring( FROM 1 FOR character_length(cc.code))
ORDER BY character_length(cc.code) DESC

Check the manual if your database does not support this standard SQL
syntax. If it pulls out more as one country, you need the first one.

Remember you still need to normalize the phonenumbers first. I strongly
recommend to use the format from ITU E.164 for storing phone numbers, it
is forward compatible.

> Similarly all custom tags have this code to let them find assets in the

In order to solve this issue I wrote this UDF:

http://www.cflib.org/udf.cfm?ID=841

I really wanted to be totally "plug and play", no need to hardcode anything
or set global variables inside Application.cfm, I just call it this way
inside the custom tag:

relativeFilePath(GetBaseTemplatePath(),GetCurrentTemplatePath())

The above will return a relative path from the caller template to the custom
tag

Hope it may help

Calculation of Relative Paths - opinions?

2003-06-13 Thread Jim Davis
I'm doing a major update to my personal little application framework.
The original was begun in CF 3.0, updated heavily when 4.5 came out and
is now being updated for 5/MX.

One thing I do is set several variables in Application.cfm like so:

So, with that, if Request.AppRootOffset = "/DepressedPress/" and the
current template is "/DepressedPress/Content/ColdFusion/Index.cfm" then
this might be the result (results will vary with web server
configuration):
Request.AppPath = "D:\WWWRoot\VBoston.com\DepressedPress\"
Request.RootPath = "/DepressedPress/Content/ColdFusion/"
Request.RelRootPath = "../../"

Similarly all custom tags have this code to let them find assets in the
same folder as they are (for example a navigation tags graphical assets
would be in the same folder as the custom tag):

Using these variables means that I can move applications around within
the web root, to new servers, etc and only have to change the hard coded
value of "Request.AppRootOffset"

Now I've already converted all of that stuff to UDFs (although I do have
one small regex difference between 4.5/5 and MX that requires server
version conditional processing) and everything's working.

However the fact still remains that I still need to hardcode my
"RootOffset" value and add the UDF call to every custom tag.

I'd like to determine a way to eliminate those needs if at all possible.

How do you folks do this (or am I making things just too damn
difficult)?

I'm not looking for "how to" help - I'm looking for "how should" help.
;^)

I think that I may be able to calculate the Root OffSet using the CGI
variables (CF_TEMPLATE_PATH and SCRIPT_NAME specifically) but I'm not
sure how I possibly do the custom tags (I think that I'll have to live
with that).

I'm working (for various projects) all versions of CF back to 4.01, but
the biggies are all on MX or 5 now so I'd like to keep this applicable
to at least those two. So, unfortunately, no CFCs (yet).

Thanks in advance,

You can add cache-control headers. See RFC 2616.

If your application uses really sensitive data, you should consider
advising people to disable caching. And use HTTPS, many browsers have an
option not to cache HTTPS data.

RE: Drop User in SQL Server

Access to a browser cached page from a password protected site can be
accessed by anyone using the same machine using the back button on the
browser and see those pages even if they're not logged into the site.

Is there some code that will expire the browser cached pages?

Thanks
Sebastian

Re: UNC and CFDirectory (new question)

2003-06-13 Thread Randell B Adkins
ok lets see if I am correct in my assumtion.
I hope I am wrong but here goes:

Our DEV server is running Linux.
I need to use CFDIRECTORY to pull a file listing
that resides on another server running Novell.

It is a Novell File Server.

If CF is logged in with an account that has access (permissions wise)
to the NFS, can the listing be done?

My thought is that since CF is on Linux and the file server is Novell,
this could not be accomplished as easy as one would hope. However
would require some Samba utility or something like that.

Am I correct in this thinking ???

And be sure Coldfusion has the neccessary permissions to access that
directory.

Randell,

What OS? If your CF server is on windows is should look like.

You want to end your UNC paths with a \ always so permissions
propagate down the folders. Also make sure your CF Application Service

is logged on with an ID that has rights to the folder you are trying to

access.

Hi Dina
What I did just now was to detach and then re-attach your database on the
server. Your comment that it is working is really a relief, and will allow me
to return to work on the Red Sky server.

I am still trying to resolve a jdbc issue on there as well.

Hello all,

I'm been struggling with this for about a day now. I'm getting this error
message: "[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]The DBMS returned an unspecified error."
when I call a stored proc. When I do a trace, it shows that it ran fine. I can
execute it through query analyzer also. Any ideas??

2003-06-13 Thread Matt Kornguth
Progress database. If you've never heard of it, you're not alone. Our
fulfillment system is completely in Progress.

And I could be wrong, but I don't think it is a rdbms limitation in my
case, but rather a limitation of the OpenLink driver used to connect to
it.

Very possible that James could simply use aliasing ... I had jumped to
the conclusion, maybe incorrectly, that he had already tried aliasing.

RE: Hyphen in a variable name?

2003-06-13 Thread Costas Piliotis
With what database? I mean, every rdbms out there should support aliased
fields... That's been around like forever... At list since the Ansi-88
standard...

Heck, even MS Access allows you to alias fields...

Don't want to speak for James, but the aliasing never worked for me. And I
tried every possible combination ... But then again that might have just
been a limitation of the ODBC driver I need to use.

Do a search for 'renamequerycolumns' at
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm#loc=en_us&view=sn10
5&viewName=Exchange%20Search. Should be the only resulting file. Also, you
may need the CFX_QueryColumns tag as well (also available at MM).

If you have any problems, let me know, I'll forward to you separately.

Re:efficient solution, problems with

2003-06-13 Thread jlangevin
You could do it on the SQL side with a custom field. At least you would be
offloading the heavy lifting to SQL. Not sure if it makes sense to tackle it
this way, but just I tested this and it works...

SELECT dbo.test.organization,
dbo.test.address,
dbo.test.phone,
dbo.test.contactPerson,
CASE WHEN (
dbo.test.email
) IS NULL
THENdbo.test.organization
ELSE '' + dbo.test.organization
+ ''
END as contactString
FROMdbo.test

#testQuery.contactString# - #testQuery.Organization# - #testQuery.Address# -
#testQuery.Phone# - #testQuery.contactPerson#

I have a list of organizations, their email, address, phone, contact person
etc...

The displayed table is as follows:

Organization - Address - Phone - Contact Person

mailto:#email#";>Organization Name - #address# - #phone# -
#contactPerson#

Now, things became a little more complicated. Some organizations have more
than one contact person and we want to have their names link to their
personal email.

Here's the issue, some people have email accounts, others don't --
incredible isn't it that some people still don't have email? :-}

Anyway what I would like is for those that have email accounts to have their
names linked and for those that don't have email accounts to remain
unlinked.

There are hundreds of names so I don't want to do a on each err
I mean .

Two querries could be done, one with names with email and one without but
would it be more efficient than 100s of ?

Not to mention that I'm not too sure on how I would be able to display the
querried solution.

Each column name is linked allowing users to order (ASC & DESC) by that
column.

thx.

RE: phone numbers - update on previous problem

2003-06-13 Thread Mosh Teitelbaum
And it gets even trickier when you take into account the various city codes
that need to be applied after the country code. While it's not a list, AT&T
has an online city code look up utility at (make sure to use the lower drop
down menu/button):

http://www.usa.att.com/traveler/codes/index.jsp

There's a list of telephone country codes with links to the city codes
available at:

Good luck.

RE: This should be easy

2003-06-13 Thread Ian Skinner
Pretty easy, and fun too, in MX.

The same thing will work in other version, but I don't remember when cfdump
came along? 5? MX? If you don't have the dump, you'll just have to do a bit
more work, writing your own output of the Cfcatcah structure.

RE: Hyphen in a variable name?

2003-06-13 Thread Matt Kornguth
Do a search for 'renamequerycolumns' at
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm#loc=en_us&view=sn10
5&viewName=Exchange%20Search. Should be the only resulting file. Also,
you may need the CFX_QueryColumns tag as well (also available at MM).

If you have any problems, let me know, I'll forward to you separately.

Matt,

Looks interesting. Where can I get the tag from MM?

JB
