Anyone know the code to extract CFID and CFTOKEN from CFHTTP.HEADER or

CFHTTP.HEADER, but I can't seem to find the right variable for
CFHTTP.RESPONSEHEADER [???] to pluck those out.

Re: Update: Memory Leak on Win2k/CMX6.1

2003-11-03 Thread Calvin Ward
It seems the number one issue with MX 6.1 is that it doesn't handle issues gracefully.

Whereas CF 5 would restart after x unresponsive requests (and that restart was fast). MX will never restart and problems appear to compound on top of each other, often rendering the server unresponsive, yet running.

While it also true that CF 5 often masked serious issues with that behavior, it also seems that the current situation isn't necessarily an improvement.

Just some random thoughts...

It looks as though we might at last have identified the culprit:After our
Sysadmin spent ages searching the forums about stalled servers, we thought
it might be our mail server, since we're also getting mail issues.So on
Friday we stopped the SMTP server and left everything else alone. Now on
Monday morning, the sites are all still running fine - in fact they're
running fast - and everything else seems to be operating normally.I
checked nervously a dozen times during the weekend and everything remained
going well.

So .. while the jury's still out, it doesn't look good for the SMTP server.

More detailed information once we have finally determined that's the cause.

No, learning VB6 first will probably make it harder.

I'd suggest learning C# or VB.NET.There are few real differences between
C# and VB.NET other than syntax but C# has a much higher standing in the MS
community...VB developers still thought of as second class.For that
reason, I'd suggest C# instead.

Beware of articles and books by people moving from VB6 to VB.NET that have
no OOP experience.I remember the first VB conference I went to after .NET
came out was really funny 'cause all the speakers were VB6 pros but none of
them had a real grasp of OOP as you'd gain from studying Java.

 If you are using it for session: session.cfid, session.cftoken
 For client: client.cfid, client.cftoken

None of that stuff will be available when you're using CFHTTP as a client to
fetch a CF page. Instead, you'll have to look in the Set-Cookie response
header for CFID and CFTOKEN with no prefixes.

cfexecute on unix

2003-11-03 Thread Hugo Ahlenius
Hi,

I have encounted a problem in our migration between our old Solaris box
running 4.5 to the new Solaris machine -- running CFMX.

I try to cfexecute rm to remove a directory tree, recursively. It is not a
permissions problem, since CF created the whole tree (and I have played
with chmod to make that is not the problem).

I try to:
cfexecute name=/bin/rm
	arguments=-rf #dirTree#/

It works fine without quotes around the path *as long as the path does not
contain spaces*. Quotes (as above) does not work at all. I also tried to
REReplace(dirTree, , \ ,ALL) to escape any spaces -- but no. Another
thing I looked at was to make arguments an array beforehand, with -rf as
the first item in the array, and the tree-var as the second (tried both
and without double-quotes).

Any tips?

Thanks,
Hugo

It's a little bit late in the game to start learning VB. Although
VB6/COM is still very much alive and kicking, .NET is gaining alot of
momentum. Therefore, I would recommend learning .NET over VB, but I
would recommend learning C# over VB. By learning C#, you distance
yourself enough from VB that you can go back and learn VB without
confusing it with VB.NET if you ever needed to.

form variables not passed to action page - please help!

2003-11-03 Thread Allan Clarke
Hi Guys,
Am really hoping for someone to help me. I have this
problem and can't find a solution. I have a form with
two buttons with an onClick event each. Each button
calls a _javascript_ function. When the user clicks on
the button, I'm assigning all form field values to
hidden variables. When I dump the form values on the
action page,
I see the form field values (including hidden form
field values) for button 1, but don't see the same
when button 2 is clicked. Here is my code

script LANGUAGE=_javascript_

function rentSubmit()
{
with (document.the_form) {
FirstName_hid.value = FirstName.value;
LastName_hid.value = LastName.value;
 }
 document.the_form.action = "">
 document.the_form.submit();
}

function orderSubmit()
{
with (document.the_form) {
FirstName_hid.value = FirstName.value;
 LastName_hid.value = LastName.value;
}
 document.the_form.action = "">
 document.the_form.submit();
}

/script

form name=the_form method=post
input type=text name=FirstName id=FirstName
value= size=56br
input type=text name=LastName id=LastName
value= size=56

input type=hidden name=FirstName_hid value=
input type=hidden name=LastName_hid value=

input type=button name=Rent value=Rental Form
>
input type=button name=Order value=Order Form
>
/form

When I click on the Rent button, I am taken to
RentalForm.cfm. In this file, I have a
cfdump var=#form#
It dumps all the form variables as I expect it to. But
when I click on the Order button, I get directed to
OrderForm.cfm but the cfdump on that page displays
nothing. I don't understand why I don't see the form
variables? Can somebody show/tell me how to fix this
problem.

Many Thanks,
Allan

okay I copied your code and made a rental and order page. the page submits
fine to either page depending on which button I press. One thing I dont
understand is why you are assingning the values from a form field that is

couldnt you do this in the js functions?

 document.the_form.action = "">

}

 function orderSubmit()

document.the_form.action = "">

but, either way it seems to be submitting fine. i guess you could check the
syntax of your dump statement on the one page, and also turn debugging on to
seethe form variables being passed.

hope this helps.

Yup. I wrote the DTD at the top of the XML page with out any XSLT. I'm

Subject: form variables not passed to action page - please help!

Hi Guys,
Am really hoping for someone to help me. I have this
problem and can't find a solution.
Here is my code

script LANGUAGE=_javascript_

function rentSubmit()
{
with (document.the_form) {
FirstName_hid.value = FirstName.value;
LastName_hid.value = LastName.value;
 }
 document.the_form.action = "">
 document.the_form.submit();
}

function orderSubmit()
{
with (document.the_form) {
FirstName_hid.value = FirstName.value;
 LastName_hid.value = LastName.value;
}
 document.the_form.action = "">
 document.the_form.submit();
}

/script

form name=the_form method=post
input type=text name=FirstName id=FirstName
value= size=56br
input type=text name=LastName id=LastName
value= size=56

input type=hidden name=FirstName_hid value=
input type=hidden name=LastName_hid value=

input type=button name=Rent value=Rental Form
>
input type=button name=Order value=Order Form
>
/form

When I click on the Rent button, I am taken to
RentalForm.cfm. In this file, I have a
cfdump var=#form#
It dumps all the form variables as I expect it to. But
when I click on the Order button, I get directed to
OrderForm.cfm but the cfdump on that page displays
nothing. I don't understand why I don't see the form
variables? Can somebody show/tell me how to fix this
problem.

Many Thanks,
Allan

Parsing a Unix Text File.

2003-11-03 Thread Troy Simpson
I have a Unix Text File where the fields are delimited by one NewLine
chr(10) and the records delimited by two NewLines chr(10).

I tried to use getToken to get the first record, but all I getting it
the first field in the first record.

cfset record = getToken(txtVar, 1, #chr(10)##chr(10)#

My file would look something like this:

!--- Start of File ---
FirstName: Troy
LastName: Simpson
Phone: 919-555-1212

FirstName: Tom
LastName: Hanks
Phone: 919-555-1313
!--- End of File ---

Why does this not work?
Any ideas how I can do this?

Thanks,
Troy

RE: form variables not passed to action page - please help!

2003-11-03 Thread John Stanley
 I've turned debugging on.

did you look at the bottom of the page to see if the form variables are
being passed to the page? if they are, then it is the action page. if they
are not, then it is the form page.

i've remvoed the id attributes from the text fields and get no errors. I've
even removed the name attribute, but left the id attribute, and the value
still gets assigned to the hidden fields.

i do get the error if i remove both the id and the name attribute.

Re: XML and Quark

2003-11-03 Thread Kevin Graeme
I don't know of a good source, but QuarkXPress tags are very similar to
other markup languages. IIRC, one of the Quark engineers played a role in
developing CSS.

Shannon brings up an interesting option though. I talked with a publishing
company that wrote their own Quark tags - XML converter. Last I talked to
them it was only in-house, not for public release. I'm still more partial to
the XSLT approach and trying to leverage Quark's XML capabilities, but it
shows that there are alternative approaches out there.

No, the server license won't matter.

You can save yourself a lot of work by using the preservedata attribute of the cfform tag.Just make fields that are the same name in the next page of the wizard.They'll be automatically populated upon submit.

RE: Visual basic/ActiveX

2003-11-03 Thread Dave Watts
 I'd like to dabble a little with VB. Should I be learning VB
 6 or VB .Net? Is there that much of a difference between the
 two?

There's quite a bit of difference between the two. However, which you should
learn probably depends on what you want to do. If you want to write programs
for Windows machines right now, you might be better off using VB 6, since
that doesn't require users to download the .NET Framework (which is about 20
Mb). On the other hand, I think .NET programming is a lot better, and you
can use any .NET language instead of sticking with VB.NET. Personally, I
never liked VB syntax much, so I'm glad to see the last of it.

Re:form variables not passed to action page - please help!

2003-11-03 Thread ColdFusion Programmer
have finally got it all working, have ditched _javascript_. Am doing the check on the server side with help from someone in another forum.

I would recommend you to do it without _javascript_.

1) remove all _javascript_
2) in main file put: form name=the_form method=post action="">
3) buttons:
input type=submit name=action value=Rental Form
input type=submit name=action value=Order Form

4) create file resolveform.cfm:
cfif Form.action EQ Rental Form
cfinclude template=RentalForm.cfm
cfelseif Form.action EQ Order Form
cfinclude template=OrderForm.cfm
/cfif

Many Thanks for your help Guys

No, the server license won't matter.

You can save yourself a lot of work by using the preservedata
attribute of the cfform tag.Just make fields that are the same name
in the next page of the wizard.They'll be automatically populated
upon submit.

Subject: Re:form variables not passed to action page - please help!

 One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post, I have CFMX
 developer edition on my local development server, both the action
 pages display the form variables, it all works. However I've got
 CFMX Standard edition on my server and it does not display the
 form variables when the order button is clicked. Does the server
 licence got anything to do with the problem I've having? I hope
 not. Both are Windows 2000 Machines

 I'm assigning the form field values to hidden variables because
 it is
 a 4 pages form and I am passing the values from one page to
 another in
 hidden variables. I have chceked the code in both the action
 pages,
 they both have the same code, I just don't understand what's
 happenning here, I've turned debugging on. One another thing I've
 noticed is if I remove the id attribute from the text input
 fields,
 I get a _javascript_ error when submitting the form (form variable
 FirstName is not undefined). I thought the id attribute was
 optional.
 Any ideas?

 okay I copied your code and made a rental and order page. the
 page
 submits
 fine to either page depending on which button I press. One thing
 I
 dont
 understand is why you are assingning the values from a form
 field
 that is
 already being passed into a hidden field that is also passed?

 couldnt you do this in the js functions?

  function rentSubmit()
 {
  document.the_form.action = "">
  document.the_form.submit();
 }

  function orderSubmit()
 {
 document.the_form.action = "">
  document.the_form.submit();
 }

 but, either way it seems to be submitting fine. i guess you
 could
 check the
 syntax of your dump statement on the one page, and also turn
 debugging on to
 seethe form variables being passed.

 hope this helps.

 Subject: form variables not passed to action page - please help!

 Hi Guys,
 Am really hoping for someone to help me. I have this
 problem and can't find a solution.
Here is my code

 script LANGUAGE=_javascript_

 function rentSubmit()
 {
 with (document.the_form) {
 FirstName_hid.value = FirstName.value;
 LastName_hid.value = LastName.value;
  }
  document.the_form.action = "">
  document.the_form.submit();
 }

 function orderSubmit()
 {
 with (document.the_form) {
 FirstName_hid.value = FirstName.value;
  LastName_hid.value = LastName.value;
 }
  document.the_form.action = "">
  document.the_form.submit();
 }

 /script

 form name=the_form method=post
 input type=text name=FirstName id=FirstName
 value= size=56br
 input type=text name=LastName id=LastName
 value= size=56

 input type=hidden name=FirstName_hid value=
 input type=hidden name=LastName_hid value=

 input type=button name=Rent value=Rental Form
 >
 input type=button name=Order value=Order Form
 >
 /form

 When I click on the Rent button, I am taken to
 RentalForm.cfm. In this file, I have a
 cfdump var=#form#
 It dumps all the form variables as I expect it to. But
 when I click on the Order button, I get directed to
 OrderForm.cfm but the cfdump on that page displays
 nothing. I don't understand why I don't see the form
 variables? Can somebody show/tell me how to fix this
 problem.

 Many Thanks,
 Allan

CFChart number formatting?

2003-11-03 Thread Tyler Silcox
Is it possible to actually format numbers past the labelformat=number
attribute on a cfchart?My y-column is coming up as decimals (1.333, 2.667,
etc), and it's really friggin irritating when you are dealing with
individual items, not averages, that aren't divisible...like children.

DWMX has a labelmask attribute, but it doesn't seem to do anything and there
isn't anything listed on mm's livedocs for 6.1.Which leads me to believe
it was included in a beta somewhere, but no longer exists.

Any help will be appreciated. TIA-

Hi,

I hope this is not OT since it is really another type of database that required CF as a middleperson.Something weird.I couldn't find two postings and others' followups on this subject posted a few weeks ago.Try do a key word search of MVDB or UniData, it won't find anything while my previous postings has included them in the subject line.

Related question for those who followed up on the topic, I'd appreciate your thought/input.VSG v3.1, for any view created, each column is set to NULLABLE, well, my requirement is such that I want the [ID] column to be NONNULLABLE or NULLABLE value set to N | 0.This version of VSG does not seem to have the feature of resetting NULLABLE value.Is this understanding correct?

If so, how could I achieve the same thing from UDT?VOC file?Help me to beat this beast :)

Thanks.

CFMX 6.1 writing Word files.

2003-11-03 Thread Tangorre, Michael
I have a base word doc I am using to generate other word docs from. The word
doc is functioning as sort of a template if you will. Inside the doc there
are specific words I am replacing. These words are denoted in the following
manner:%{WORDTOREPLACE}.

I then use cffile to read the generic template into a variable called
docText. I do a few replaces and then need to write the altered text
(docText) to a file and save it as a word doc. Everytime I try and save the
doc it seems to save ok but I can not get it to open...

Is there a better way to do what I am trying to do?

CF on RedHat9?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone was running CFMX on RH9.
I noticed that apache 2.0.40 isn't listed as a compatible version for

I tried to upgrade apache to 2.0.48 without success the previous version
just kept running... and wouldn't go away.

I've tried to uninstall RH9's httpd package and install 2.0.48, but when I
try to start it, I get command not found.

So I'm wondering what I haven't done, or may have done wrong.

2. Is there some specific coding, e.g., cfhttpand cfhttpparam combination

   CFID and CFTOKEN are embedded in CFHTTP.HEADER, but I
   can't seem to find the right variable for
   CFHTTP.RESPONSEHEADER [???] to pluck those out.

Re: Parsing a Unix Text File.

2003-11-03 Thread Troy Simpson
Thanks Steve.
That is what I am going to have to do.
Jerry Johnson mentioned this in the first post.

I just thought that there might be a way to do both at one time with the
getToken or REFine Functions or the cfloop tag.

The documentation of the getToken function was misleading to me.

There was also a line in the documentation about the cfloop tag that
mislead me as well.

Now I am straight on this.

Replace then Parse.;-)

 Why don't you read the file into a variable then do: replace(myVar, |||,
 ~, All)thereby changing your multi character delimiters to
 single char
 delims?

   you do this, right?

  That is correct. You can specify a list of characters, but CF will
  treat any
  individual instance of those characters as delimiters.

XML Parse with CF50

2003-11-03 Thread Larry Juncker
I am receiving an XML string from a client and I am trying to learn how to

I receive around 300 items and only need to actually retrieve part of them.

Is there a simple way of looping through the XML feed to pull out only
certain tags?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Extracting CFID and CFTOKEN?

2003-11-03 Thread Dave Watts
 1. What is the variable name used to get the Client CFID
 and CFTOKEN?

In the initial HTTP response from the web server, you should receive two
cookies. They'll just be CFID and CFTOKEN, but they'll be contained
within something that looks like this:

Set-Cookie: CFID=42;... (or something like this - there are also attributes
for dates tacked on somewhere)

 2. Is there some specific coding, e.g., cfhttpand
 cfhttpparam combination that I need to send to have CFID
 and CFTOKEN returned in a more friendly format?

 Futher clarification: The info that I want, both CFID and
 CFTOKEN are in the header in the variable #cfhttp.header#.
 The only problem is it is embedded in with a bunch of other
 variables. I am only coming up with sloppy coding ways to
 extract that info, but would like to get it out clean. The
 following variables give info for the initiating server.

You should be able to use CFHTTP.ResponseHeader, which is a structure. The
Set-Cookie key of that structure will be an array with two (or more)
elements, one for each cookie.

Re:Might be OT: MVDB -- UniData etc.

2003-11-03 Thread Don
Joe,

My client uses UniData (Pick type of people say not much different from Unverse), they'd like to export their UniData data to SQL Server or the like for easy view etc.I've set up an ODBC connection to the UniData server, then used VSG (Visual Schema Generators) to map UniData mv data into relational data set, then DTS it to SQL Server.All works, almost beautiful except that, by default, VSG makes all columns nullable.Well, in my data transformation process, I can take care of that, but I thought it would be a better way/more efficient way to be able to configure column nullability from VSG, it looks like it can't but that's OK.

Thanks though.BTW, what does RedBack do? schema translation?

Regards,

Don Li

We run U2(Universe) MVDB. I dont understand your question though.
Our Configurations are (U2 + RedBack + CF5.0 and U2 + JDBC + CFMX)

What are you trying to accomplish?

Hi,

I hope this is not OT since it is really another type of database that
required CF as a middleperson.Something weird.I couldn't find two
postings and others' followups on this subject posted a few weeks ago.
Try do a key word search of MVDB or UniData, it won't find
anything while my previous postings has included them in the subject
line.

Related question for those who followed up on the topic, I'd
appreciate your thought/input.VSG v3.1, for any view created, each
column is set to NULLABLE, well, my requirement is such that I want
the [ID] column to be NONNULLABLE or NULLABLE value set to N | 0.
This version of VSG does not seem to have the feature of resetting
NULLABLE value.Is this understanding correct?

If so, how could I achieve the same thing from UDT?VOC file?Help
me to beat this beast :)

Thanks.

My guess is no such feed exists, but it is proprietary if it does. The
NFL keeps tight control over distribution, and it will get tighter -
they are planning to come out with their own station soon.

RE: sharing client variables datasources among servers

2003-11-03 Thread Dave Watts
 This might be a stupid question, but can two different CF
 servers share a client variables datasource?

No, it's not a stupid question, and yes, they can - this is how you
typically manage state across a cluster. There are a couple of things to
keep in mind when setting this up, though. You only want to define the
tables in the first cluster member (or manually within the database
yourself), and you only want one server to be responsible for flushing
expired data.

You bet.If you've got a cluster, client variables in a DB is absolutely
the way to go, unless you have a lot of complex data to store in the session

  can't seem to find the right variable for

 If you are using it for session: session.cfid, session.cftoken
 For client: client.cfid, client.cftoken

None of that stuff will be available when you're using CFHTTP as a client to

Just a little extra load on the servers, because the expiration queries will
be run by each server, even though there will be nothing to expire after the

Well we have major issues with our server locking up every day.EVERY Day.

We've applied the SQL Patch,where you revert to the drivers used in 6.0.

We've seen jrun.exe grow day after day till it finally pulls the server to a
halt and locks everything up.Researching it, there are a gazillion people
talking about memory leak problems on forums around the net, but no one has
any solutions.I too wonder if MM is looking at this issue, because we are
trying to implement some apps using 6.1 code and we can't.We can't load
up a site on a server that's going to lock every day and give users timeouts
or not founds or page cannot be displayed.

Last night we figured we'd try what someone else said they'd tried . we put
a script to check the size of jrun.exe every hour, and if it got over 100MB,
then the script would stop the services and restart them.But that hasn't
helped.Our servers are locked now once again.

I've been watching people complaining about memory leaks and servers locking
ever since 6.1 was released, and I have not seen a lot of advice or solution
information coming from Macromedia. Quite frankly we're at our wits end,
and I'm getting sick of losing clients over our flaky server.We haven't
had a single day where the server is up all day since we installed 6.1.
Not one.And we installed 6.1 two days after it was released.Since we
give a performance guarantee, we've had no hosting revenue at all since 6.1
came out.

Macromedia?Theserver never ran properly ever since it was installed, and
it's a bloody dog.When it runs, its beauty to behold.But 4 hours later
I'm fielding angry calls from clients.It's not worth it.When are we
going to see some kind of solution for this?Just look at the CF forums
around the net and see how many server owners are bitching about memory
leaks.Bout time you owned up to it isn't it?

Re: Memory Leak on Win2k/CMX6.1

2003-11-03 Thread Doug White
Macromedia was enthusiastic in responding to issues when 6.1 was first released,
and now it appears that they have gone back into their shell.Contacting Tech
support has likewise reverted back to their old ways of lengthy delays if any
response at all.

I suggest the user with problems with the server product, to uninstall it
completely and revert to CF 5.0, until Macromedia gets its act together.While
a lot was accomplished with the 6.1 release over previous editions, it still is
not a stable product., and IMHO should not even be on the market.

In the meantime, I suggest you check the error logs, and look for long running
queries that are not completing in a timely manner.If this is the case, your
clients are not coding efficiently.On the server, go in to CF Administrator
and set the limits on long running processes to a lower value and see if this
will help.

 their
 developer's forums, but it's awfully slow.(Takes about 10 seconds to
 load)

Hi Mark,

You might also want to check out our xml parser
http://www.cfdev.com/xml/ it's a java cfx tag so it should be faster
than the cf solution.
