Ok. I didn't realise that. However, it still didn't work when I used Numm
instead. I changed it to Rank but I started with Numm (I added an extra "m"
because I wasn't sure if Num was a reserved name.)

RE: How to capture complete url using CF -- including any anchor tag?

2007-01-25 Thread Dave Phillips
To answer this question:

In the DOM, window.location.hash will give you the value following the hash
in the URL, so you could take that and store it in a session var with ajax.

I remember the same answer. Is there a way JavaScript can access it through
window.location.href? If that was possible you could ajax the anchor to
your session, or put it in a hidden field or something but that's probably
really too much to bother with.

RE: Apache config

2007-01-25 Thread Russ
Most people who just get a stock Dell box, they will have XP home on it.
How are they supposed to learn web development on it if MS doesn't provide a
web server to go with it?

It's probably true that most web developers use XP Pro, and personally, if I
get a PC with XP home, I reinstall it right away with XP Pro, but there are
people out there, who are using XP Home.

The reason I brought this up, is I have a friend who I'm trying to get
started with ColdFusion. They have XP Home, so we are forced to use Apache.

I think it's ridiculous for MS to cripple the OS like that.

Anyway, are there any good beginner sites that my friend can start going
thru the tutorials on? Or should I just have them get a copy of CFWACK?

Does the error occur any time you call that stored procedure, or does it
occur randomly? I can't tell from your description.

What happens if you run the sp_help stored procedure from your application,
after this error occurs? To do this, you might create a separate page with
just this stored procedure call and a CFDUMP of the resultset.

Can you upgrade your database drivers to the latest available version from
the Adobe hotfix page?

ColdFusion LOSES datasource connection

2007-01-25 Thread Merritt Chapman
An issue seems to randomly occur with our application that results in the
following error any time we try to insert records in our usage database using
sproc called 'InsertUsage':

"[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Could not find stored procedure
'InsertUsage'. "

I know the stored procedure is on the server and works. When this error
occurs, the only way to resolve it is to restart the CFMX service. It's as
ColdFusion "forgets" how to find the usage database datasource. I also have a
query that results in the same error above but instead of listing the sproc
name, it displays the usage table name. The CF logs in the adimnistrator don't
show anything other than the same error I've listed above.

We're racking our brains to figure out what's going on. It seems to be
completely random and we know our database server is running fine. I can run
queries using query analyzer against the same tables that ColdFusion says it
can't find.

Has anyone seen this sort of thing before? Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

We run:
CFMX 7.0.1
IIS 6
SQL Server 2000

I never got around to pursuing this much. It is still on my todo list.
I used ASP.NET 2.0 instead of ColdFusion to connect to reporting
services. I am still interested in how to do this using ColdFusion.
Does the web service return a rendered report, or does the web service
return the instructions needed to render the report (which CF can't
deal with). I did not use the Web service method to embed the reports,
so I am not sure.

Are you sure it's not just a typo? The output block says "newindent".

Hi all...I have a stored procedure that works. I have modified it so it back

  THEN lft + 2
  ELSE lft END,
   rgt = CASE WHEN rgt >= @right_most_sibling

INSERT INTO folders (folder_name, folder_parent, folder_path, limit_upload,

VALUES (@fname, @pid, @folder_path, @limit, @rootid, @rstep,

SET @newident = @@IDENTITY;

Here is my CF code..

record number is #newindent#

Thanks for any help you can offer.

The anchor currently used can be retrieved using window.location.hash,

It's not sent to the server, so you can't capture it. If you want to send
that to the server, you will have to use JavaScript to capture it, then put
it somewhere the server can see it, on a subsequent page request.

I remember the same answer. Is there a way JavaScript can access it
through window.location.href? If that was possible you could ajax the
anchor to your session, or put it in a hidden field or something but
that's probably really too much to bother with.

Re: Integrating SQL Reporting Services with ColdFusion

2007-01-25 Thread Alice Burnes
Just wondering if you made any headway. I've been trying to find ANYTHING on
this topic and have gotten almost nowhere.

Using the webservice, at the moment I can view a list of reports and view the
reports using the URL accessiblity method but when I try to use the webservice
to actually get the reports...splat! At the moment I'm trying the render
method and getting nowhere.

Any pointers/references would be very welcome!

I'm actually stunned that I can't find any concrete examples of using
webservices to display reports using CF MX (MX or MX7) given that Reporting
Services has been around for a while now--almost feel like it is a bit of a
conspiracy:)

How to capture complete url using CF -- including any anchor tag?

2007-01-25 Thread rard nek
Hi,

I know how to capture the basic URL info, using CGI vars such as server_name,
query_string, etc.

However, I can't figure out how to capture an anchor tag that may be on an URL.

For example:

http://www.mydomain.com/foo/bar.cfm?var=Blah#thisPageSection

How do I grab "#thisPageSection" using CF?

My big picture goal is this:

User is given a link to a page which may or may not have variables & an anchor
reference. User clicks link, and page looks to authenticate. If not logged
in, current page info (including all parameters, etc) is stored in a session
var, user is kicked to the login page. After successfully logging in, user is
redirected back to original page, based on session var.

I have everything working correctly, except that I can't figure out how to grab
the anchor info on the original URL.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Kendra

The Aptana plugin is very good for CSS, JS and XHTML code editing. The ftp and

Advance chart layout

2007-01-25 Thread Ian Skinner
I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I would like to confirm it.

Is it possible with the cfchart tag of CFMX 7.02 to create a chart with two
data series staked and a third series clustered?

I have three pieces of data, number of units collected to date, number of units
scheduled to be collected by the end of the month and the goal for the number
of units to collect in the month.

I would like to stack the first two and compare it to the third, can this be
done?

Well, in my limited usage so far, it seems stable, CFEclipse is working fine
(as is Subclipse and Aptana), so it seems like it might be a good option for
you.

In fact, one annoying CFEclipse bug seems to have disappeared - in 3.2
typing would hang the workspace for about 30 seconds, then close
the tag with an extra > in between. It doesn't do that in 3.3M4 with the

Also, one annoying thing about the "show whitespace characters" option is
that you can't toggle it in a live editor - you have to close and then
reopen the file for it to apply.

using UTC datetimes isn't really i18n. it's used if you need UTC timezone (tz)
data (like maybe you live in greenwich, GB) or more often when you need to
support different tz in the same application. you "cast" all your "whatever" tz
datetimes to UTC when you insert them into your database. that makes converting
them to other tz simpler.

of course this is all moot if your server's tz uses DST & you rely on cf's
datetimes, all datetimes are server datetimes as far as cf is concerned.

I cant get it to work in Dreamweaver. Everytime I try to type a carriage

How do you do it in dreamweaver?

Query-of-queries doesn't actually use your database at all. Query-of-queries
is, in fact, case-sensitive. There's nothing you can do about that, except

Re: Quick CFEclipse question

2007-01-25 Thread Christopher Jordan
Try NoteTab Light. It's got an easy way to do this sort of replace
without regex (which it also offers). ^T = tab, ^P = crlf... there are
others, but those are the two that I usually use. You also have the
option of searching and replacing in every document you have opened.
It's really cool, and it's really free. :o)

It may sound a bit hokey to have a separate editor just for this sort of
search and replace, but I use it all the time and it works great.

Hope that helps,
Chris

Was it the fact that by default it only has a single line search

Got it, Dave. Part of my problem was that I was not specifying the field names
in my insert statement, thus it was trying to force a value into a field that
was set to have a default value. I have not explicitly stated by values and
destination fields (leaving the date out) and all is well.

Man, the further away from Access I get, the worse it becomes...

It appears that the vulnerability only applies to running remote code, which
is quite unlikely in the case of a CF server, unless you also browse sites
from the server console, and those sites use Java applets, and your browser
uses the same JVM as CF uses.

In my opinion, in most situations, the best way is not to do it from CF at
all. Simply define the default value within the database column. That way,
if you write future applications in other environments that use the same
database, they'll function identically.

No idea. I'm actually downloading it now to give it a spin. The milestone
releases - at least past the first one or two - tend to be fairly stable.

The main issues I've run into in the past are usually with plugins breaking
due to API changes.

why pass anything from CF? why not just make the default value of the
field in the database getDate()?

if you're updating...just pass getDate() (just like that. no quotes,
no # signs (it's a SQL Server function, not a CF function)).

no need to make CF do any thinking :)

If it is always going to contain the current date and time, just use
getUTCDate() as the default value in the field.

Are both queries running from the same application on the same server? Are
both queries using the same datasource?

Have you tried running the query directly in a query analyzer?

What database are you using? When you say the "same database", do you mean
same database server, or same database within the same server?

What version of CF are you using?

Solved it by sending a base64 encoded bytearry from actionscript

using toBinary( myString ).

This will generate a little overhead, but it works.

I think, but did not test, that if you use the LIKE directive, it will
be case-insensitive.

SELECT
*
FROM
[table]
WHERE
[column] LIKE

However, be aware that the LIKE might create other issues like using the
"_" as a wild card match, and % and what not.

Other than that, Dave Watts knows way more than I do.

Subject: CF string case must match SQL field value case

I have some SQL select queries that act case-insensitive and others that
only return values that match the string case between the CF string
variable and the SQL field value requested.

I can address it by setting the CF value with "Ucase" and the SQL value
with "UPPER", but I don't think it should be necessary since I have
other queries that return case-insensitive results without making case
conversions.

Any ideas on what's causing only case matches to be returned from a
SELECT query?

Thanks!

This is generally determined by the collation of the specific database in
question. If you're using a case-sensitive collation, you must treat your
comparisons as case-sensitive.

I haven't tried it, but the AnyEdit plug-in

with CFEclipse.

Also, what are the chances of CFEclipse showing hidden characters? I prefer

CF string case must match SQL field value case

2007-01-25 Thread Joy Holman
I have some SQL select queries that act case-insensitive and others that only
return values that match the string case between the CF string variable and the
SQL field value requested.

I can address it by setting the CF value with "Ucase" and the SQL value with
"UPPER", but I don't think it should be necessary since I have other queries
that return case-insensitive results without making case conversions.

Any ideas on what's causing only case matches to be returned from a SELECT
query?

Thanks!

RE: Determine the thread number of a gateway request

2007-01-25 Thread Brad Wood
A full thread dump of the JVM should contain that thread, but I'm not
sure how to programmatically get it without some searching.

I know SeeFusion will let you dump all threads, and I assume
Fusion-Reactor has similar functionality. That's about as much help as
I have...

RE: confirming string length, case, and alphanumeric

2007-01-25 Thread Bobby Hartsfield
Give this a shot Richard.

Each time it loops to grab the next character, it grabs it from the next
usable character set in the list so it uses them all.

Just so it's not the same sequence of character sets over and over, the
second loop rebuilds the string by pulling out random characters one at a
time and appending them into a new string.

All my tests have been successful so far. Let me know how yours turn out. If
everything works out for you as well, I'll submit it.

There is only one thing that is not so random about the string... if you use
a length that is evenly divisible by the number of character sets that you
use, then there will be an even number of each character set in the
resulting string.

Say you used randstr(9, 'alphanumericupper') (3 character sets alpha,
numeric, and upper)... the result would have 3 lowercase letters, 3
uppercase letters and 3 numbers. I don't think that is a deal breaker but
just thought I'd point it out.

/**

Re: Quick CFEclipse question

2007-01-25 Thread Teddy Payne
Chris,
Ctrl-F is good for single page selection searches. The search that I was
referring to was Ctrl-H.

I was trying to convery that an additional scope to either Ctrl-F or Ctrl-H
that could accomodate people.

ASCII insert on searches would be interesting.

and further, you need to look at the numeric data you are
converting...is it all ints...you may need to convert to something
else...also, you can google on isreallynumeric and
isreallyinteger...those are some custom functions I've used in the past.

RE: Quick CFEclipse question

2007-01-25 Thread Gaulin, Mark
Hi Mark
Yeah, the ability to search for a block of text would be really nice.
Actually, I'm not too thrilled at all with the default Eclipse
multi-file replace either... Everything about it (esp when working with
files that are in source control; I use VSSPlugin) is weirdly
unsettling.

I know you did ask for this, but what I would really love in CF Eclipse
is something like the Java "Open Type" feature. The idea is that you
often know the name of the file you want to open but navigating to it
takes a couple of seconds; the Open Type dialog is great because it
shows recently searched for files (java classes, actually) and with a
couple of keystrokes you can get to that file you had open ten minutes
ago. Right when the dialog open is shows the most recent files (again,
classes) that you opened via the Open Type dialog. It is really handy
when working with a project with a big directory structure.

Anyway, sorry for the out-of-scope feature request, but I couldn't help
myself.

Thanks
Mark

To quote some guy on one of the lists I frequent:

"What in the ham sandwich are you talkin' about?"

slew of other options.

Attached is a screen shot of what I'm talking about. Are you talking

RE: Quick CFEclipse question

2007-01-25 Thread Chad Gray
I just got done installing Homesite on my new computer along side of CFEclipse
and Dreamweaver because I missed Homesites searching and replacing so much.

Homesite can search for carriage returns and replace them with commas... I love
that!

I can quickly take comma delimited data and replace the comma with a carriage
return... I can search for tab and replace it with a comma etc...

Homesite's searching and replacing just rocks!

In the past I have created my forms. Then submit to an empty action page. I
grab from the debugging all of the form vars that were submitted:

FIELDNAMES=TYPE,CATALOGID,ELEMENTID,SKU,ELEMENTDESCRIPTION,PAGE,ELEMENTTYPE,TYPEOFSHOT,SIMPLEORADVANCED,PROPS,OUTLINETYPE,JID,NOTES,CAREYNOTES

Now I use home site to find the comma and replace with this:
, represents a carriage
return):
" default="">

Now my results are this:
TYPE" default="">

Re: Quick CFEclipse question

2007-01-25 Thread Teddy Payne
I think this can be solved if the "Scope" of the searches were to include a
new scope called "Selection."

This would enable a user to highlight a block of code and then perform a
search and replace on a pattern using the existing single line search, but
in a very concentrated area so that you would not need to implement
multi-line searches.

If you perform global search and replace, Regex is safer especially when
dealing with multi-developer projects.

Yes, it's the single line search field. I know you can use regex, but
who wants to mess with that when you can just copy and paste something
like this:

and replace it with this:

and further, you need to look at the numeric data you are
converting...is it all ints...you may need to convert to something
else...also, you can google on isreallynumeric and
isreallyinteger...those are some custom functions I've used in the past.

sorry about the multiple posts...headache...not thinking clearly.

Quick CFEclipse question

2007-01-25 Thread Mark Drew
Hi there

I just wanted to ask (without trawling through the whole archive) to
those people that use and those that have been put off using
CFEclipse because of the search dialog.

Was it the fact that by default it only has a single line search
field that puts you off?

(dont say just implement it like homesite, since I do not and will
not install it)

Thanks in advance for your constructive responses

I should point out one issue with the way I did it...the isnumeric
function is not perfect, and will resolve to true things that can't be
converted to INT...case in point...

IsNumeric('1,0.') = 1
CAST('1,0.' AS INT) throws an error

RE: SQL order by

2007-01-25 Thread Chad Gray
Ok..

So basically your statement is re-defining "thefield" as an integer if
isNumeric returns 1. Else 0 returning thefield as it's original data type.

ORDER BY CASE WHEN IsNumeric(thefield)=1 THEN CAST(thefield AS INT) ELSE 0
END,thefield

Very cool!
Thanks for the lesson, I have never used WHEN, THEN, ELSE, END in SQL.

That should put the text fields at the beginning, sorted alphabetically, and

The name of the function is called Substring(column, start position, length of

When you use ORDER BY in SQL on a text field it sorts the data like this:

1
11
12
13
2
21
22

Where I want
1
2
11
12
13
21
22

I cannot switch it to an integer field because there will be some text also.

Any way to accomplish this?

Thanks!
