Re: CSS?

Yes, I know the rule :-) I was just curious why news1, news2 were defined as
individual IDs rather than a class of news as they would no doubt be
containing the same style of content?

Yes, good spotting. That will teach me for cutting and pasting the HTML
only, and I didn't even see the bottom div til you mentioned it! The
extra closing div doesn't actually make any difference to the
margin-collapsing issue (IE is actually not too bad at *error
correction*) although validating your html is definitely the first place
to start in the debugging process if problems occur. Incidentally, IE6
on my win2k machine at home renders the same as all other browsers, so
it only seems to be IE on XP.

Then Doug followed up with:
Thanks for the help. I removed the margin-bottom from the
banner id and then added margin-top to the mainNav, main and
news id's to push them away from the banner and it seems to
 be working

If the layout were going to get extremely complicated or you had several
other elements that were being affected, it can sometimes pay to add
another wrapper div around those and apply the margin to that (although
currently in your case that's not necessary).

To answer the question from Neil, I am using ID's
on all div due to the fact that there is only one occurrence
of those objects in the page. If there were multiple items
needing the same style properties, I would use class
 selectors instead.

I think the new version of cfeclipse has ftp and sftp management. However I
have always used aptana and found it very useful. I normally set up aptanas
sync manager in the cfeclipse perspective, you can do this by adding it to
your views (the small icon on the right hand side of the perspective, just
select other then browse to aptana and select the sync manager). Once you
have set up your connections to the appropriate sites, you just right click
on your file in the navigator and select synchornise then upload or
download.

RE: SQL Login Faliure

2007-03-15 Thread Robert Rawlins - Think Blue
Good morning guys,

Thanks for all your help yesterday with this stuff, I've not got a net admin
friend of mine to start playing around with IPSec to try and resolve the
issues.

Now, I've come back into the office this morning and found another stack of
request errors in my application event log, so I've just shot off another 4
or 5 emails to different ISP's in Finland and Poland, but what I'm thinking
is that it would be great to have a script that reads my logs on a daily
basis, plucks out any of these malicious attempts to login, WHOIS the IP's
and mail of a standard email with a copy of the logs and the offending IP's.

Has anyone done something like this before?

Thanks,

Rob

Dynamic title In Model-Glue

Hello Guys,

Has anyone done any work with dynamic titles and meta tags using MG? I'm a
little lost on how best to achieve it, the idea is the content for the tags
will change for every page to make them more relevant to the exact content.

I've using the standard dspTemplate.cfm method at the moment to wrap my

achieve a little more flexibility in this template.

RE: Dynamic title In Model-Glue

2007-03-15 Thread Robert Rawlins - Think Blue
Nice work Cutter,

That was a short and sweet tutorial and gives me a good kick in the right
direction, I wasn't aware that I could set values in the XML manually like
that. There are a couple of ideas or questions I'd like to run past you
though.

Firstly is regarding the database driven titles, this seems like a fair
enough concept to me, but I'm a little worried about making database calls
on every page just to collect titles and keywords etc, so what I'm thinking
is building a bean on application start which contains an array with all the
database information in, this way when each page loads it'll only need a
quick reference to the bean in memory, rather than pulling from SQL, does
that sound like a reasonable idea?

Also, I notice in your tutorial that at the top of your template view you
set all the drawn details from the framework into the variables scope like
so.

cfset variables.pageTitle = My Site: /
cfset variables.pageTitle = variables.pageTitle
viewState.getValue(pageTitle,Home) /
cfset variables.pageKeywords = viewState.getValue(pageKeywords,) /
cfset variables.pageDescription = viewState.getValue(pageDescription,)
/
cfset variables.additionalStyleSheets =
viewState.getValue(additionalStyleSheets,) /
cfset variables.additionalScripts =
viewState.getValue(additionalScripts,) /
cfset variables.siteSection = viewState.getValue(siteSection,) /

Is there any reason behind doing this? Or would the app be just as happy for
me to reference it as
cfoutput#viewState.getValue(pageKeywords,)#/cfoutput?

Thanks again for the advice,

Rob

Robert,

The array of page information is a good idea, if your site isn't
massive. I draw those details into the variables scope for two reasons:

I don't think, to the app, it matters which way you reference them. It
does make sense for variables that may be used in multiple locations
within your template, so that you call the getValue() method for that
variable only once.

RE: Dynamic title In Model-Glue

2007-03-15 Thread Richard Kroll
Is there any reason behind doing this?

I try to do this as well in my applications. The reason that I do it is
that it places all framework dependant code at the top of the template
so it is easy to get to.

An additional benefit is that if I ever need to migrate the application
to another framework, I would only have to update the references at the
top of the view rather than scattered throughout it.

Re: Multiregion Directory site

2007-03-15 Thread Dean Lawrence
Eric,

The orlando.directorysite.com would need to be handled by DNS, but if
all of the custom domain names pointed to the same site, you could
trap for the cgi.server_name variable in your application.cfm or
application.cfc file and use this to filter listing from the database.
This way you use the same codebase but have unique looks to the site.

I see this could be outside of the CF scope possibly on a Webserver/DNS

I've used this one in the past and found it pretty decent. It's not
as polished or as fully featured as the Apache implementation, of
course, but the regex support is strong so it should handle most
needs. And it's free (which is why I used it).

Rob,
Cutter's method is pretty inclusive. For a different take on the
subject, I have a CS Bean called ScriptFactory which manages the
content of the head section of the document (js, css, meta, etc.).

The default values are already pre-set so that if I don't include the
arguments in my event handler XML, the head section (when needed) is
populated with the defaults. I call it like this:

event-handler name=main
broadcasts
 message name=doCheckLogin /
!-- Here are Commands for the Script Factory --
 message name=needHeader/
 message name=setPageTitle
argument name=pageTitle value=Welcome!/
 /message
 message name=addToHeader
argument name=items value=jsmx,jquery/
/message
 !-- End Script Factory --
/broadcasts
results
 result do=start.allRequests /
 result do=view.template /
/results
views
 include name=header template=dspHeader.cfm /
 include name=body template=dspIndex.cfm /
 inlude name=welcome template=dspWelcome.cfm /

I am interested in this too. What I would like to do
 is make a small
signature area for contracts...sales people would
 take their tablet PCs
out in the field, get a signature directly on a
 contract generated by
ColdFusion 7. I would like to make it so either a
 button on my flash 8
signature widget would save the signature file to the
 server or just when an
HTML form associated with the contract is submitted,
 the signature would be
uploaded to the server and then incorporated as part
of a PDF file of the
 contract with CFDOCUMENT.

You also have to install a windows patch, it's in windows update. Then
verify your system time is correct. If your system time is correct, along
with the timezone, you should only need to restart CF after you tell it the
new JVM path.

Don't forget the hotfix that comes along with the new JVM:

Need some help with this Regex...

2007-03-15 Thread Rick Faircloth
Hi, all...

Why doesn't this Regex validate the field entry 24
as a valid number? :

CFIF Len(Trim(Form.Years))
and Not IsNumeric(REReplace(Len(Trim(Form.Years)), [0-9],,All))

I thought this would mean:

If Form.Years has some content
and if, after taking away all digits 0 thru 9, what's left is not a valid
number,
then...

RE: Need some help with this Regex...

2007-03-15 Thread Ben Nadel
For starters, you probably want to remove the Len() inside of:

REReplace(Len(Trim(Form.Years)), [0-9],,All)

To:

REReplace(Trim(Form.Years), [0-9],,All)

Plus, the NOT IsNumeric() will ALWAYS be true since you are stripping
out all numbers. IsNumeric() will never be true... Somewhere, your logic
is screwey... What are you trying to do (in english)?

I would trim form.years only once...

This is a jQuery Ajax validation, and the form field validates
onblur every time after the field is focused.

 cfset form.years...

return it to them as they entered it.

RE: Need some help with this Regex...

2007-03-15 Thread Rick Faircloth
Hi, Ben... and thanks for the reply...

Ok... I figured out the problem... my Regex is correct as is,
however, a conditional statement prior to it needed to be adjusted.

Here's what's going on:

jQuery is submitting info via Ajax from a form field to the code below
for validation. (In this case I'll use the Years form data)

CFIF Not Len(Trim(Form.Years))

CFSET Years_Error_Message = Please enter the number of
years.

/CFIF

CFIF Len(Trim(REReplace(Form.Years, [0-9],,All)))
  and Not IsNumeric(REReplace(Trim(Form.Years),
[0-9],,All))

CFSET Years_Error_Message = Please enter a valid number
for years.

/CFIF

Now, I've change the first condition of the second CFIF to read:

CFIF Len(Trim(REReplace(Form.Years, [0-9],,All)))...

That verifies that there is data besides digits, which is what I'm trying to
find out.
The next condition, after the and, checks to make sure that the data is
not numeric
after all digits are removed... (this may be redundant now...)

Here's the final code (at this point...) for validating the Years field.

CFIF Not Len(Trim(Form.Years))

CFSET Years_Error_Message = Please enter the number of
years.

/CFIF

CFIF Len(Trim(REReplace(Form.Years, [0-9],,All)))
  and Not IsNumeric(REReplace(Trim(Form.Years),
[0-9],,All))

CFSET Years_Error_Message = Please enter a valid number for
years.

/CFIF

Verity help with @ symbol

2007-03-15 Thread Matt Williams
I have a verity collection of usernames, email addresses, etc. When
searching on somename@, I get results, but if I search on
[EMAIL PROTECTED], no results are found (yes assuming that email
address does exist).

Basically, if I add anything after the @ symbol, verity results croak.
Here is attribute I am using from the cfsearch tag:
criteria=`#Lcase(arguments.searchCriteria)#`*

If I remove the backquote, I get no results with the @ symbol,
regardless of what's before or after it. I have tried various other
iterations of the wildcard before and after the backquote, and without
it altogether.

Hoping someone has overcome a similar issue,

2007-03-15 Thread Dinner
On 3/14/07, Steve B wrote:

I just thought of something. Perhaps adding in the Alias and Host

all under cfusion.war like you have it, so I shouldn't say for certain
that you'll need to abandon it. I've just never done it that way.

I don't understand how Apache and Tomcat communicate well enough
to know for sure if it's possible or not-- perhaps with a different
connector,
things are handled differently. So far, all I've seen are proxy deals,
unlike the good old Apache AddHandler jrun-handler .cfm .cfc .jsp deal.

Thus, you gotta have stuff off the root(/), if you want to have more than
one project/app per CF context. They can't share / (as far as I know,
at this point ;) like they can with the JRun connector . Maybe a
special servlet would do it... :-/

To be clear, before I posted the first question, I had set up a couple
of sites using your blog entries (Which were clean and easy-- what
I've been asking about just sounds similar, as I'm poor at express'n
what I'm after at times =]). I have hosts, multiple instances, etc..

I'm sorta oblivious, so I kept thinking I was missing something, but
I'm really talking about some info that I haven't found on your blog,
or anywhere, actually. It's probably staring me in the face tho. bah!

Try adding the Host and Alias entries, as well as the changes to the
jboss-web.xml files, and see if that does it for you.

Thanks Steve, that's what I did for a couple of sites, and they're
the only ones so far that need to run with JBoss anyways, so I'm
just gonna use JRun for the rest.

I've actually ended up doing a few instances of jboss (starting it
with: run -c laszlo -b laszlo.localhost ) by following the instructions
on teh wiki ( http://tinyurl.com/p8tl7 ), which is slick, no port mucking
abouting, and for my purposes, prolly better anyways. (starts fast!).

I'm really liking JasperServer, and OpenLaszlo, and Funambol- all
are easier to set up, and keep set up, with tomcat/jboss, than
with JRun. So! For the couple of projects that I'll be running on
JBoss, I'll just do instances/contexts for, and not run 'em at
the same time if I can help it.

And, dude, a freaking memory monitor, just whipped up?
  http://tinyurl.com/2t6ndf

Another reason I was dorking with cfusion on jboss. =]

Great stuff main!

Thanks again for the info, here and abroad. ;-)

How to server side validate these radio buttons

2007-03-15 Thread Will Tomlinson
I have a form with dynamically created radio buttons. They look like this in
the source:

  tr class=background-hilite
td align=center width=251/td
tdYou'd like a place to smoke on campus/td
td width=200
 table align=center width=100% border=0 cellspacing=0
cellpadding=2
tr class=background-hilite
td align=center width=25%SAbr /
  input name=Q_question1 id=Q_question1 type=radio value=1_1 /
/td
td align=center width=25%Abr /
  input name=Q_question1 id=Q_question1 type=radio value=1_2 /
/td
td align=center width=25%Nbr /
  input name=Q_question1 id=Q_question1 type=radio value=1_3 /
/td
td align=center width=25%Dbr /
 input name=Q_question1 id=Q_question1 type=radio value=1_4 /
/td
td align=center width=25%SDbr /
 input name=Q_question1 id=Q_question1 type=radio value=1_5 /
/td
/tr
  /table
/td
 /tr

I'm looping over the fieldnames, inserting the values into the db, workin just
fine.

What's the best way to server side validate to make sure at least ONE radio
button per set was selected?

Here's my loop insert in case that helps ( don't pay attention to the no
cfqueryparams, just testing this out:

!--- Loop over fieldnames adding to db ---
cfloop list=#FORM.fieldnames# index=thisField
   cfif ListFirst(thisField, _) EQ Q
cfquery datasource=#SESSION.DSN#
INSERT INTO tblevalanswerresults (answerID, questionID, questionsetID)
VALUES (#ListLast(FORM[thisField], _)#, #ListFirst(FORM[thisField],

Re: How to server side validate these radio buttons

2007-03-15 Thread Mik Muller
Will

Although typically radio buttons always start with the first option selected
(unless another is manually SELECTED), it's possible that NONE will be
selected, especially if the form page were reloaded (doubly especially in FF),
so you're right, you need a fallback.

The typical fallback strategy is cfparam, but that assumes a default value,
and a db INSERT always. What would you like happen if none is selected? That's
the real question.

(For some reason I want to say do you feel lucky punk, but that may not be
appropriate here).

Will,

Since if no radio buttons have been selected, the field will not exist
in the form structure, so you could use either on of these methods:

isDefined(Q_question1)
or
StructKeyExists(form,Q_question1)

If either one of these fails to return true, than the person did not
select a radio button.

Hope this helps,

cfqueryparam vs val( )

2007-03-15 Thread Mik Muller
Ok ok, so I'm a baaad boy, but I hadn't been using cfqueryparam all this time,
but with a good reason. You cannot cache your queries if you do.

I'm sure this has come up before, but I want to ask anyway...

I'd prefer not to cfqueryparam all my queries because I have quite a few that
run for every page, some of which are pretty big. Currently I cache every query
I can get away with caching and the sites run fairly snappy. Some day soon I'll
get around to a real tune-up as far as performance, but for now I'm worried
about security.

For the queries based on numeric ID, can't I get away with putting a val( )
around my url ID variables and be ok (this is what I'm doing now)? I mean, val(
) strips out everything starting from the first non numeric character, which
would essentially remove all sql hacks. Assuming I could ensure val( ) didn't
crash (what could crash it) would I be safe enough with just that?

Mik

ie;

cfquery name=qs datasource=#request.d.dbname# dbtype=ODBC
SELECT something
FROM somewhere
WHERE ID = cfqueryparam cfsqltype=CF_SQL_INTEGER null=No
value=#url.ID#
/cfquery

vs.

cfquery name=qs datasource=#request.d.dbname# dbtype=ODBC
cachedwithin=#session.cache_long#
SELECT something
FROM somewhere
WHERE ID = #val(url.ID)#
/cfquery

Virtual pages, without extensions. How to do it?

2007-03-15 Thread Andy Matthews
I've been seeing a lot of URLs set up like this in the last yera or so:

http://www.somesite.com/financing/
or
http://www.somesite.com/company-info/aboutus/

I have a custom tag that allows me to have a URL like this:
http://www.somesite.com/page/aboutus

where page is the key and aboutus is the page name. But short of creating
actual folders with individual index pages, I don't know how people are doing
this. In the first example, would I create a file named financing.cfm and
somehow map it to that URL? Is there a way of accomplishing this in code?

I've got a client I'm going to be working with soon that would like nice search
engine friendly pages and I'm just doing my research. Anyone have ideas?

RE: Virtual pages, without extensions. How to do it?

2007-03-15 Thread Russ
The best way to accomplish it is with mod_rewrite using Apache. The 2nd
best way is to use some IIS rewrite filter (there was a thread on this
today). The 3rd best way is to set up a custom 404 handler and then parse
the url and point to the right page.

Re: Virtual pages, without extensions. How to do it?

2007-03-15 Thread Mike Chabot
The way 99% of the people do it is to create default pages for each
folder. I am not sure why you why you would want to do something
different, since specifying default pages is trivial.

One way to accomplish this in code is to make use of either a function
that runs in Application.cfm or use the 404 error handler to handle
the missing file error intelligently. You could also install a URL
rewriting filter.

As an aside, I have substantial experience in SEO, but I don't see a
strong connection to doing what you are trying to do and making
search engine friendly URLs. The one thing I would point out is that
the following four pages could potentially be indexed separately:
http://site.com/, http://www.site.com, http://site.com/index.cfm,
http://www.site.com/index.cfm. So if you are going to chop off the
default page in the URL, make sure you don't have some links in your
site that add it back. From an SEO standpoint, if your home page is
http://site.com/, then you shouldn't have any links for
http://site.com/index.cfm, even if they are the same exact page.

Good luck,
Mike Chabot

I need the TZUpdater for 1.3.1 JDK

2007-03-15 Thread Gonzo Rock
I have one client left on an older CF install running 1.3.1 version of the
Sun JDK.

Does anyone know how I can get the updater for it... the
TZUpdater-1.1.0-2007c does not support / update 1.3.1 of the JDK.

Thank you,
Gonzo

I second Russ on $0 get apache its built in, not to mention more flexible ;)
mod_rewrite baby!

We have used Helicon's ISAPI_rewrite while we were migrating to Apache so if
you need to stay with IIS (Authentication,AD) then I will throw a vote for
Helicon

Re: cfqueryparam vs val( )

You are safe using val for number fields. Nothing would crash it. Val
evaluates to 0 if what you pass in cannot be recognized as a number.
