RE: CF8 Tab Issue

2007-08-27 Thread Rakshith N
That's right Andrew.

By the way, the " " is being included out there to avoid a weird issue
that happens with the tabs on Safari.

Try this sample code and access it on safari:

HI, i m tab one!

You will see that it works fine. Now if you try the same with " " removed,
the tab contents just vanish.

We will see what can be done to resolve the issue soon.

Ray,

Thanks for the help. That makes sense, but I have a pretty big issue. I am
using Ajax UI elements (cflayout and cfdiv) for my interface and I need to have
the ability to upload files in it.

Are there any work arounds that you can think of. I am wondering if I can use a
separate JavaScript upload utility to do it.

Any ideas, if not I may have to redo my whole UI.

Thanks again.

make a java object. Outside of that, your code below worked fine for

A new training based website aimed at providing a collection of good quality
tutorials will be launched on the 1st of September AEST. This is a 100% free
community based website, there will be no advertising.

Every tutorial must meet the following requirements

1. Must run on CF8
2. Must be self contained (ie not require frameworks or third party
libraries)
3. Must use the coldfusion demo databases if it uses databases
4. Must have a working example
5. Must be tag based and not script based

We are looking for people to either author a tutorial or offer an existing
tutorial that they may have blogged, simply post your interest here or email
me. We will take the tutorial, ensure it is
appropriate and not too similar to existing tutorials. Authors will be
credited.

Visit the site learncf.com for a sample tutorial so
that you can see what they will look like.

 Hi,

Using the charting application on CF 7.02, I receive a "divide by zero"
error that appears to bubble up from Java or at least WebCharts3D (since
it
doesn't have the usual CF error information). It occurs under very
specific
conditions (at least in my application), and it's completely
reproducible.
There's no way, however, to know where or how any division operation is
being done.

It's occurring under following conditions: The line chart has two
series.
The X-axis displays date values and the Y-axis a numeric data value. The
query containing the data for the first series has a "dummy" row,
containing
only a date value, in order to force the chart to begin at a specific
date.
It then has one or more rows of data, so points are only shown for dates
where data was actually recorded.

The second series represents charting of an "ideal" value. The query
structure is built in code, and consists of a date and a data value for
every day within the date range. This produces a flat line showing the
ideal
value.

The error occurs only when the first series has only two rows: the dummy
row
and a row of real data. If there are multiple rows of real data, the
chart
displays correctly.

However, if I remove the second series -- the ideal value -- the first
series displays correctly, even when the series query has only two rows.
So
clearly, the error comes from some sort of interaction between the two
datasets. But there's no way to tell what the interaction is, or how to
work
around it.

I've Googled and searched extensively, but found no reference to this
problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CFChart and XML string

2007-08-27 Thread Tom McNeer
 Hi,

The CF7 docs say that you can pass a stylesheet to the WebCharts3D
application by inserting either an XML string or the path to an XML file
into the "style" attribute of the tag. I have use a file path many
times, and it works fine.

But I am not able to insert an XML string into the attribute without an
error. The error is "system cannot find file specified," so it appears as if
the application looks for a file, rather than a string, regardless.

I need to set values in the stylesheet dynamically, so I need to build the
XML and pass it in on the fly. I have output the XML and it appears
perfectly valid. I have read the contents of a working XML stylesheet file
into a string and inserted that string into the "style" attribute. But it
produces the error noted.

Has anyone been able to pass a string to the "style" attribute successfully,
and if so, could you pass along some tips?

RE: Railo 2 Released

2007-08-27 Thread Rick Faircloth
Is that accurate, Gert? Will once $300 pro license allow
for unlimited virtual hosts, as does one pro license of
Adobe's CF?

I've lived without various instances of CF for about 10 years,
so I can certainly live without that capability to save $1000...

I'm glad to hear they are working on this, when it comes to doing ecommerce,
many of the CFX tags are more than just useful, they are essential depending on
the gateway you are using. And then we have ones like Cybersource that use COM
objects...

RE: Railo 2 Released

2007-08-27 Thread Rick Faircloth
Hi, Gert...

Yes, you're right that there are benefits to Railo that
CF 8 doesn't have concerning administration.

But, I know for me, one killer function that is missing
is the support for CFX tags. Why is that? I heard that
mentioned more than once as a big problem? Is support
for tags that difficult?

Yes Rick, you wer right.
We haven't flushed the cache so we had some Errors regarding our current
level of compatibility.
Thanks for the information.

And I must add that we have some CF8 features in it as well.
We will try to get as close as possible to CF8 with the Railo 2.1
release in Q1 2008.

But anyhow. Each engine has their target market. We target customers
that look for a lightweight engine with an extreme good performance.
In my opinion there is no licensing model that makes Railo more
expensive than CF8 (except upgrade price from CF7 to CF8)

You say you pay more for less. But of course this is a point that can be
discussed.
We have some features other engines dont have. For example resources.
http://www.railo.ch/en/index.cfm?treeID=339
And some more like:
- different settings for each web context.
- Railo archives
- Server Administrator
- Performance

So I guess you don't get the full deal with 300$ more than with Railo
Pro unlimited.

Re: OT: NetSol Hosting

2007-08-27 Thread Alan Rother
Right there with you one the murky bit. It took me too long to find
the section that mentions they offer CFMX as a Pro option.

If your client has their heart set on using it, my main concern would
be what features are missing. GoDaddy for example won't let you use
createobject, negating an Java access.

So, thats where I would start, find out what services they have shut
off and see if that conflicts with the thing you are planning on
building them. If it's a fairly simply "typical" website with a few
forms and some small data in data out applications, it'll probably do
just fine. However, if they ever need anything fancy, you'll be SOL.

As a side note, I've never been happy with any of the products I've
bought from NetSol. Domain names and SSLs mostly, yeah they work fine,
but the customer support is usually a nightmare.

You need to tell studio how to translate file paths into urls.

You do this on the Debug -> development mappings.

CFMX installation problems

2007-08-27 Thread mayo
I'm trying to install CFMX 6 on Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2.

I've installed, removed, reinstalled IIS and CFMX 6. I've tried it as a

I keep getting the same problem: I'm unable to access the admin area. I keep
getting the same error.

The stack trace is listed below.

One of the things I like about HostMySite for clients that can't
afford/don't want to pay even for a VPS is that you can use SQL Server

The PRO package does offer CF, but the waters are pretty murky as to what is
supported within CF and what is not. The problem is this client so far
refuses to jump ship somewhere else as they found out after a year that they
were paying for website hosting on NetSol AND CrystalTech, but not using
NetSol hosting! I just came to the party and am seeing what I can do for
them. A lot of my clients are not on shared hosting; they either have their
own servers co-located or in-house. Others I have on accounts at
HostMySite, which is where I was trying for regarding this client.

Crow,

Thanks for the info, that is very helpful.

I am using SQL 05 DTS is not really an option anymore. I had to use Integration

do a DTS package.

Any ideas if it will function the same way.

Re: Importing CSV into

2007-08-27 Thread Crow T. Robot
Here's what I do, start to finish:

1) provide a file upload form

2) upload the file to the file system via CF. Be sure to put it in the
folder that you specified in the DTS pkg you created, also making sure that
the file is named the same as the file you specified in the DTS pkg.

3) run the DTS via a stored procedure - a complete tutorial on hoew to do
that with CF can be found here:
http://www.pengoworks.com/index.cfm?action=articles:spExecuteDTS (thanks
Dan)

4) delete the file, or archive it, or whatever.

That's about all there to it. The hardest part is setting up the SP call
from CF, and that is pretty easy too, thanks to the handy-dandy tutorial.

Let me know if I left anything out.

RE: OT: NetSol Hosting

2007-08-27 Thread Bruce Sorge
I use Go Daddy exclusively and I have not run into any serious limitations
of their CF hosting. I will say though that I had a better experience with
Crystal Tech and sort of regret leaving them. I am sure I had a good reason
to, but I forget now it was so long ago. I think it was their pricing.

Anyway, the only thing that I don't like that a lot of hosting companies are
doing is you cannot use Enterprise Manager to connect to your database. That
sucks. The web administration tools out there are not too bad, but you have
to do a lot of extra steps to get done what you can do in half the time in
EM.

GoDaddy on the other hand does offer CF hosting, although by some accounts
here its fairly limited in what they allow you to do.

Problem uploading file from form in cfdiv

2007-08-27 Thread Steve Sequenzia
I am having issues with trying to upload a file when the form that has the
cfinput in it is nested inside of a cfdiv. Here is a simple version of the
problem:

This errors out with this error:

"Invalid content type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded. The cffile
action="upload" requires forms to use enctype="multipart/form-data"."

As you can see I am setting the content type to multipart/form-data but it is
ignoring it. I guess it has something to do with the way the form is submitted
when it is in the cfdiv. This same code works with without the cfdiv, but I
need it inside of the cfdiv.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Yes they do but I would still think against it.

Go with someone like viviotech.net where you can get vps hosting and I would
expect cf8 at some point in the near future. Coldfusion on shared boxes is
not stable enough as a recommended option unless you don't mind some
downtime here and there. Maybe with 8 this could all be changed.

I actually used SQL to do it because I was having issues with the CFM code. I
still need to come up with a way for end users to do it from a web page. I need

Re: Railo 2 Released

2007-08-27 Thread Gert Franz
Then why is there querySetCell().
You can use qry.age[1] = 50 as well.

Or why in other engines there is a ListFind() but no ArrayFind()? Or a
ListToArray() but no ListToStruct() or ArrayToStruct()?

Our function matrix containing the functions regarding lists, structs,
arrays and queries is as complete as possible.

Re: Railo 2 Released

2007-08-27 Thread Gert Franz

Right now the rule is

RewriteRule ^/word$ /index.cfm?fuseaction=info.word

Nothing too sophisticated :) Thanks for the info to everyone.

Nope. Windows to Windows (self-hosted to higher-end custom hosting).
The new hosting partner support involves less hassle if it's IIS/MSSQL
or Apache/MySQL. We're currently Apache/MSSQL on Windows and it's just
easier to move to IIS to avoid support problems down the road.

Although I've never used any of the

Quite well indeed -- and I'm quite aware. I became an Apache on
Windows convert b/c of the lack of virtual hosting on MS PWS or
whatever it was called. Of course now I'm a Mac guy so it's a moot
point.

One Apache plus is that you've got access to cool things like
mod_rewrite and mod_proxy (especially the Apache 2.2 version). No, I'm
personally not thrilled about the switch, but it's *much* easier than
having the Apache/Linux support and the Windows/MSSQL support argue
about why there's a problem down the road.

FWIW, I got the IIFR open source rewrite ISAPI filter running with
*very* little effort using the same rule (minus the [PT,L] flags) as
in mod_rewrite. That's kinda' cool. (Means this probably is a good
solution for IIS/Rails ;)

I could be wrong - but I think Andy is wrong. I believe you can only
return the simple values - not the structure.

Yeah - so ajaxproxy is pretty cool. It has two very distinct, very
different features. On one hand it can make a simple connection
between your JS and your CFC code. On the other hand, it acts more
like a tag, firing events based on other changes.

Without having looked at Ben's tute, you might consider returning a
structure instead of a query or a string. Then you could bring back multiple
bits of data in the same variable.

Subject: Coldfusion 8 and AJAX

Hi,

I'm experimenting with the AJAX stuff that was added with CF 8 and i'm
running in the following issue - i wonder if anyone played around with it
and could help me.

I have a cfform:

Client name:

and a cfc to populate it with data :

select * from clients where clientName like
'#ARGUMENTS.search#%' order by clientName

So far nothing spectacular - I actually got this from Ben Forta's tutorial.
What i would like to do is to add fields in the form and for the data to be
auto populated if a record for that clientName exists in the database.
With the current syntax i get an error message:
error:widget: Bind failed for autosuggest clientName, bind value is not a 1D
array of strings which i don't know how to fix.
If i write instead it works fine but
then i don't know how i would populate other form fields.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Ben

Re: Coldfusion 8 and AJAX

2007-08-27 Thread Raymond Camden
So if I read you right - what you want is NOT the autosuggest feature
itself - or actually - you want to do something AFTER the user has
picked a value. Ie, I type in "Ra", your autocomplete returns a set of
possibilities, one of which is "Ray", I select Ray, you then load your
other form fields with info about Ray.

If so - I'd recommend using cfajaxproxy with a bind that points to
clientName. You can tell ajaxProxy to run a CFC function whenever
clientName changes, which is what will happen when the user picks one
of the values you select.

There is a problem with this though. Lets say your autosuggest is
looking up names in a Contacts table. I type in "J" and get John.
There could be two Johns in the table. You aren't allowed to return
complex data, just the string. So if I do the lookup based on John, it
would only work for one record.

Of course, you could build in support for this as well. I could
imagine a detail form that would support showing a drop down of all
the Johns.

So does this help? I could try to whip up a demo later today.

Coldfusion 8 and AJAX

2007-08-27 Thread Ben S
Hi,

I'm experimenting with the AJAX stuff that was added with CF 8 and i'm running
in the following issue - i wonder if anyone played around with it and could
help me.

With the current syntax i get an error message: error:widget:
Bind failed for autosuggest clientName, bind value is not a 1D array of strings
which i don't know how to fix.
If i write instead it works fine but then
i don't know how i would populate other form fields.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Ben

Re: IIS Rewriting options

2007-08-27 Thread Michael Dinowitz
I've used this for clients as well as personally and it's solid. Pro
is limited RegEx support. Con is limited RegEx support. This simply
means you have to be a bit creative with your redirect code as well as
some ColdFusion pages to deal with logic that the isapi can't. Things
that require a DB for example.

Do you have the latest version of wsconfig.jar installed? If I recall
correctly, there were several updates to that after the release of 6.1.

Re: Railo 2 Released

2007-08-27 Thread Terry Schmitt
I've been trying figure out their licensing, as I've been testing the RC
version but I think with the pro version (1 web context), it's similar to the
CF server installation. You run unlimited virtual hosts under the single "web
context". The limitation being that all the Railo setting are global to all the
virtual hosts.

By adding additional web contexts, you can have unique Railo settings (options,
mappings etc) per web context.

So... My take is that for $300 you can run unlimited virtual hosts. Seems like
a pretty fair price to me.

Now, am I wrong? I could be. The Railo site suffers from translation issues at
times, but I seem to recall seeing A FAQ somewhere on this.

Application Pools getting disabled

2007-08-27 Thread Jim Easterly
Hi, Has anyone seen or solved this.

We are running CFMX 6.1 on Windows 2003 IIS 6. Nothing has changed in this app
for 3 months but about 3 weeks ago we started having this issue when the server
gets busy. The Application pools all become disabled thus making the website
unusable. Restarting IIS and CF fixes it. After running the IIS Debug
Diagnostic tool it shows,

"The following functions are involved in the root cause
jrun_iis6_wildcard!GetExtensionVersion+3bdd"

"The following modules are involved in the root cause
\\?\D:\CFusionMX\runtime\lib\wsconfig\1\jrun_iis6_wildcard.dll from Macromedia
Inc."

It then lists the threads that are in conflict and has this about the threads,

"Thread 23 - System ID 11780
Entry point   w3tp!THREAD_MANAGER::ThreadManagerThread
Create time 8/25/2007 7:18:47 PM
Time spent in user mode 0 Days 0:0:3.625
Time spent in kernel mode 0 Days 0:0:15.625

This thread is waiting on critical section 1fd29a0 owned by thread 39.

Thread 39 in turn is deadlocked with another thread.

Function Source
ntdll!KiFastSystemCallRet
ntdll!NtWaitForSingleObject+c
ntdll!RtlpWaitOnCriticalSection+1a3
ntdll!RtlEnterCriticalSection+a8
jrun_iis6_wildcard!GetExtensionVersion+3bdd"

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

I concur with Crow - I was going to suggest exactly the same thing. You
could add the function right in App.cfc, then use cfinvoke to call the
method, but I feel for cleanliness App.cfc should just contain those native
functions (onApplicationStart etc.).

CF Studio Browse tab doesn't work

2007-08-27 Thread Dave Long
For some reason, I've never been able to develop mappings to preview .cfm
pages in the Browse tab of CF Studio, probably because I don't have my
server set up properly, but I was always able to preview static pages there.

A few weeks ago, this feature stopped working and I have no idea what I
might have done to cause this. I now receive an error message stating, "This
browser only supports local files."

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Dave

Folks,

I'm moving a moderately high-volume site from Apache to IIS6/Win2k3.
We're using mod_rewrite under Apache for a few URL redirects (simply,
'hardcoded' friendly urls) and need a replacement. I know that there's
a slew of choices -- googling that's pretty easy. I'm looking instead
for advice -- seems like

http://www.codeplex.com/IIRF/

is a good choice since its open source, decent license, solves
existing problems with other implementations, etc.

Any advice pro/con?

FWIW, moderate volume means ~1MBps 95% peak.

I think, frankly, any of the tools that are out there will be sufficient.
The problem that I ran into, when using another tool, was that it performed
poorly with large lists of redirect rules.

You need to tell studio how to translate file paths into urls.

You do this on the Debug -> development mappings.

Re: application.cfc question

Plenty of ways to do this, but I'd probably create a utilities.cfc and then
drop it into the application scope (in OnApplicationStart()). That way,
anytime you want to use it on your site, you just call it that way. The
added benefit is if you find you have more functions liek this that you may
need, just drop them into utilities.cfc.

application.cfc question

2007-08-27 Thread Chad Gray
I am switching an application.cfm to application.cfc.

Im my application.cfm I defined a function that I used through out the web site.

function replaceQuotes(arg) {
return Replace(arg, '"', "&##34;", "ALL");
}

Now in the application.cfc I cannot place the function in onRequestStart I get
an error.

So now, to have this function available to the web site, I can just make a new
function in application.cfc like this:

Right???

I just want to make sure I am doing this right and im not going to kill
application.cfc.

That would be it. We had a LARGE client that used a proxy for

Dave

this still seems like a whole bunch of work for something that can be done
very easily in SQL Server. I could have this pkg set up in less than 20
minutes, and I bet it would be 10X faster than your CF.

the only reason I see to not use the "right tool" for this job is if there
were some issue with database access, like the user was on limited-access
shared hosting account or something.

Of course, this assumes a file has an extension, "foo" is a valid

Sure, that makes sense. Manage what you know. There's also many more
PHP developers relatively speaking, which makes hiring for the
team/replacement/maintenance easier.

Or is
> legitimate to keep "consistency" in the languages used within the
> organization?

That's a huge plus, but it's all relative. Some shops like to
standardize, some like to pick the right tool for the job and pay the
additional maintenance overhead, some like to go with a particular
vendor/platform. Etc etc.

FWIW, PHP today is *very* different from PHP circa 2000, just as
ColdFusion is different today as opposed to in 2000 Both have made
the jump to objects, CF is really Java under the hood and PHP is
headed there, and there's plenty of other changes to both.

One thing I'd suggest is looking at the CAKE framework, which is one
of the defacto choices for new PHP development (much like Rails is in
the Ruby world or Django in the Python world).

The big factor for me personally for an *accounting* project would be
reporting. PHP has really poor options for reporting other than
do-it-yourself HTMLy stuff. ColdFusion has pretty good options as of
late and both .NET and Java have excellent options (JasperReports and
Datavision being two great open source options from the Java world).
Now if you're using something like Access or Crystal to generate the
reports directly off the database, that's not an issue.

RE: CF vs. PHP

2007-08-27 Thread owner
If that is what they use for allof thier other apps...then yes...it is
normal to use the same language across the enterprise where appropriate.
You might see a mix of Java and other languages and sometimes even .Net
and CF (usually the only time you see multiple lanhuages like >NET and
CF or CF and PHP or .NET and PHP is when a company bought out another
company that used a different app). His insistance on sticking with PHP
without looking at a CF based solution is prolly job protection though
hehehe. It's easier to maintain a team that does the same language and
more efficient to maintain applications within the same language. Lets
say the CF guy is out sick or quits...those CF apps are not going to
languish until a replacement can be found...theere would be other CF
developers that can pull the slack until either the guy comes back or a
replacement is found.

I messed up... I just did the CF 7.0.2 Hotfix on my 7.0.0 installation.

Apparently I should have upgraded to 7.0.2 first then did the hot fix.

Now I get "500 null" on pages.

What are the best steps to fix my messup?

CF vs. PHP

2007-08-27 Thread Chris Martin
Hey...
Got a question for you all. I've been a CF developer now since 2000.
Previously, I used PHP and found it rather cumbersome. I'm currently
working on a accounting project that my boss wants me to develop in PHP
(because all he's ever used is Linux, PHP, mySQL).

Now it's been 7 years since I've done any PHP development. Am I being
ignorant by thinking the only reason why this guy wants me to develop in
PHP is for his own job security (since he doesn't know CF)? Or is
legitimate to keep "consistency" in the languages used within the
organization?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: CF way to Prevent back button

2007-08-27 Thread J.J. Merrick
We do it at the webserver level. IIS and Apache has the ability to
expire pages so that when they hit the back button they get an error
from the browser saying that page has expired.

CF way to Prevent back button

2007-08-27 Thread coldfusion . developer
All,

Is there a way of preventing a page from being cached in the browser using CF
besides the html version of ...

( yes you're seeing this correct, additional head tag after closing
body tag)

I understand this doesn't work well in IE because not enough data is downloaded
to have this
take effect so you're suppose to place a second instance of this code at the
end of the closing
body tag.

Thanks.

Hi Dave, is there documentation on CF7 supporting _13 somewhere? The
last I remember seeing in the feature matrix was _11, but if a newer
version is supported we'd like to check it out.

Oh wow! this server is not up to date. No wonder I was getting strange
results from staging to production.

Thanks!

I googled for 'cflocation application.cfc onerror' and this was the
first result (the fix for it)

Fusion-701

You can either update to CF 7.01 (why are you not up to date??) or you
can put this into your onError method:

I started using the onError function. I get the below error on one
page.

Any ideas? The code runs fine, I just get an email everytime the page
is hit since I started using onError.

It does not like my use of CFLocation, but it seems to work fine and I
don't see any typos.

Re: query runs slowly and times out in Coldfusion 8

Personally, I would set up a page system that returns a set of records
then the whole thing at once.

Maxrows and Startrow are your friends. :)
