What do Charlie Arehart, Sean Corfield, Ray Camden, Ben Forta Ben Nadel have in common?

2007-12-03 Thread Dale Fraser
They have all contributed tutorials to http://learncf.com.

Now if these names ring a bell, you probably realise just how busy these
guys are, you probably also realise that they already contribute a lot to
the community. However they still made the time and put in the effort to
contribute.

Contributing is actually very easy, LearnCF is a code based tutorial site,
we don't show you how to configure the administrator, we show you snippets
of code with that code running so that you can see the results instantly.
And you know the code in these tutorials works as that's the code running.

What you may not know is that you can contribute simply by emailing a link
to a blog entry that you may have already posted, or email some code and
some text through. We do any necessary edits, set it all up and send it back
to you for approval.

Now if you manage to contribute sometime in December, you will be in the
prize draw.

1st Prize - ColdFusion 8 Standard Boxed

2nd Prize - ColdFusion 8 Documentation Set

3rd Prize - ColdFusion 8 Merchandise

So send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and contribute to the ColdFusion
community.

Snake graphs, a longshot

2007-12-03 Thread Dominic Watson
This is a huge longshot, but does anyone recognise what software might have
produced this graph (from the styling):

http://dev-schoolprofile.teachernet.gov.uk/_i/graph_secondary.gif

I'm assuming it wasn't cfchart?! We have to make an identical graph but with
new data and it has to appear exactly as above. As usual with this project,
the process for producing this graph is completely undocumented :(

Thanks in advance,

Dominic

Which way is the correct way to write this code?

2007-12-03 Thread Rick Faircloth
Hi,all.

(CF8)

I've been using this code successfully (at least I'm fairly certain I tested
it initially.this was final testing), but now I'm getting an error:

Error Occurred While Processing Request

The C:\websites\bodaford-homes\images\buyers_guide\original\original3
image format is not supported on this operating system.

Use GetReadableImageFormats() and GetWriteableImageFormats() to see which image
formats are
supported.

The error occurred in C:\websites\bodaford_sm\cfm\buyers_guide_add_confirm.cfm:
line 68

66 :
67 :cfimage action=resize height= width=150
source=#rbgo##cffile.serverfile#
68 :destination=#wbg150##cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg
overwrite=yes
69 :cfset form.section_photo_w150=#cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg

I don't know why it's seemingly using original3 as the file sans extension.
Do I need to put write the destination as:
destination=#wbg150##cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg
???

I tried it this way:

66 :
67 :cfimage action=resize height= width=150
source=#rbgo##cffile.serverfile#
68 :destination=#wbg150# name=#cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg
overwrite=yes
69 : cfset form.section_photo_w150=#cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg

But I got the same error.

The image I'm uploading is a simple .jpg.

Thanks,

Rick

RE: Eclipse CFEclipse

2007-12-03 Thread Rick Faircloth
Hi, Russ...

But after reading the discussion on the list about trunk, tree, etc.,
and whatever else SVN involves, it seems like some serious complication
that I could see being necessary in a multi-developer environment, but I didn't
want to use a hammer to kill a mosquito...

I actually installed VMWare Player, and picked up a Subversion Virtual Appliance
from Young-Technologies.com and ran it. I installed TortoiseSVN, too.
But I just couldn't make sense out of what was supposed to being going on, even
after reading the guide.

I just abandoned it as overkill.

However, with HomeSite 5.5 acting a little strangely, I wouldn't mind getting
in on Ecliple/CFEclipse.

RE: Which way is the correct way to write this code?

2007-12-03 Thread Rick Faircloth
Yes, in my convoluted way of handling file paths for all these years of CF 4.5
(variables in Application.cfm), the #rbgo#
represents C:\websites\bodaford-homes\images\buyers-guide\original
as the destination folder.

The resize action that the code represents is one of a series of actions
taken upon the original image uploaded from a form. Then it is resized to
various sized needed, then each file renamed and put into a database.

I'm sure you've seen my follow-up post that the problem I was having was
an oversight on my part that I hadn't created an original folder on the
production server. In other words, my production server didn't mirror my
development server. :oP

Thanks for your help!

Re: Eclipse amp; CFEclipse

2007-12-03 Thread Terry Schmitt
Rick,

I may be missing something, but CFEclipse has nothing to do with SVN. CFEclipse
is simply a CF IDE. SVN plugins for Eclipse are simply added functionality that
many CF developers utilize. SVN is not required for using CFEclipse.

I am a solo developer and shifted to CFEclipse about 3 years ago and now only
rarely use Homesite + for occasional RDS connectivity to CF5. I have found
CFEclipse to be a very productive IDE. Sometimes installing plugin can be a
pain, but those issues can all be worked through. CFEclipse can be as easy or
complicated as you want. Junior CF programmers can use it for basic CF coding,
while more advance programmers may throw in some SVN, ANT and more.

I would also highly recommend using SVN as a solo developer. Once again you can
make it as easy or complicated as is needed for your situation. My first step
for any project is to configure SVN. I wouldn't worry about learning how to
setup and run a SVN server though. For 6 bucks/mth you can get a really nice
hosted SVN solution... And then you get TRAC as well!

 Hi,all.

 (CF8)

I've been using this code successfully (at least I'm fairly certain I
tested
it initially.this was final testing), but now I'm getting an error:

 Error Occurred While Processing Request

image format is not supported on this operating system.

Use GetReadableImageFormats() and GetWriteableImageFormats() to see which

 The error occurred in

 69 : cfset form.section_photo_w150=#cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg

I don't know why it's seemingly using original3 as the file sans
extension.
Do I need to put write the destination as:
 destination=#wbg150##cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg
 ???

 I tried it this way:

name=#cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg overwrite=yes
 69 :cfset form.section_photo_w150=#cffile.clientfilename#_w150.jpg

But I got the same error.

The image I'm uploading is a simple .jpg.

 Thanks,

Passing URL in URL variables and CFLOCATION

2007-12-03 Thread Steve Piotrowicz
Hi All, thanks for any help on this topic.

I'm working on a project for a client where I need to build some simple
tracking from and adwords click to a landing page and need to incorporate
google tracking and affiliate links.

I'm working with 3 pages/urls.
1. Landingpage.cfm
2. go.cfm
3. Final Affiliate Link - http://www.affiliatelink.com?id=1site=3product=4

A user clicks from AdWords and lands on Landingpage.cfm. When they click on a
link on landingpage.cfm they go to go.cfm where I drop the google conversion
pixel and then redirect to the final affiliate link.

I'm passing the affiliate link as a url variable on landingpage.cfm and then
using CFLOCATION to send the user to the affiliate link.
http://www.site.us/folder1/go.cfm?link=http://aff.primaryads.com/t.asp?id=338e=13610depid=1976subid=cfoutput#url.kw#/cfoutput

I can't get this method to work on all affiliates so I need another way.

2 QUESTIONS:
1. Is there a better way to redirect urls for this situation?
2. Is there a way to make the affiliate url in the url variable just a string
and not a link?

If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Steev

Okay, I got my other question taken care of, it ended up being a

Now I'm trying to get the form to be nice to me in IE. I have the

behind the form elements below it. I'm pretty sure this isn't a CF
specific issue but since these are CF tags being called I'm going to
ask here.

Any ideas?

jrun.xml

Could we consider this file as a configuration file for CF8 (my box OS is

btw, don't know if the above attribute has anything to do with a single

Now, here's part of the all important jdni.properties file with revision,
(with revision because the default failed, error Could not connect to any

Thanks for the tip on the cfeclipse list, Charlie. I've already
signed up.

On the matter of SVN and checking code in and out, because I see
so much discussion that involved both Eclipse/CFEclipse and SVN,
I have been assuming they were part of the same package. Thanks
for clearing that up. I've been on the Eclipse/CFEclipse site
and done some reading, but it's amazing how misconceptions persist.

As far as installing it, I'm asking my final preparation questions
before making the leap. Yes, I can install and uninstall, but I hate
doing that too much on my system. Parts are always left behind somewhere
after uninstalling. And there's always the risk of a system becoming
unstable/usable for whatever reason when anything is installed.

Just trying to be cautious, trying to look before leaping...

Right, I was concerned about WHAT EXACTLY THIS PORT is ABOUT. So, this PORT is

Yeah, I know the location and the hosts file name. But does
the text in the jndi.properties, # This is the JNDI listen port. Any port
number is okay, but
# the webserver connector installer will auto-discover the port
# if you use a value between 2900-3000

mean the hosts file must contain the following line?
localhost:2930
I added the above line to this file.

After these these settings and all firewalls turning off, I still got the same
error,
The specified procedure could not be found.

The following is from the jrun071201.log file when I first attempted to

it's possible cf8 was trying to call an old running jrun...

nobody on Linux

2007-12-03 Thread Richard Colman
CF8 is currently running on the nobody account on our Linux server.
This is causing problems with access permissions.

Are there are potential issues with creating another account (like
coldfusion etc.) and running CF8 under this new account, instead of as
the default nobody account?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

(usually 'apache'), but it's kind of irrelevant what user you use, as
long as it has the permissions it needs.

Yet another advantage of Eclipse. it doesn't get installed the

that's it. You can install it to a folder on your desktop, and run it
from there. Then, copy the folder to another location (c:\program
files\eclipse, for example) and run it from there. You can pop it on
a flash drive and run it from there. to delete it, just delete the
folder. no messy remnants left behind.

This is a very nice feature when new versions are released. I've
had Eclipse 3.2 and Eclipse 3.3 running side by side for some time
now. They're just executables running from different locations. It's
all very nice and neat :)

Problem with Coldfusion 8 running on Oracle 10G AS

2007-12-03 Thread Brogdon, Kirk P (DFG)
Not sure if this is the right place to post this - if anyone can suggest
somewhere better, please let me know:

I've deployed an EAR on an OC4J instance (called CFSF) and I am trying
to access the administrator through IIS. I've added the OPII.dll to the
web server and it seems to be redirecting to my CF Instance correctly
and is displaying the CF 8 Login screen for the administrator. The
problem is that after I enter a valid username and password, it just
redisplays the login screen - If I enter an invalid user name, it tells
me that the user name is invalid (so it appears to be validating).

I can login to the same application using the Apache http server that
comes with Oracle and everything works fine (I can login to the
administrator, change settings etc) but if I connect using IIS I can't
get past the login screen.

I'm pretty clueless with the Oracle AS (or any j2ee server for that
matter) but does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? The
fact that the Apache server allows me to log on makes me think that CF
is fine but there must be some sort of permissions issue when I come
into the application through IIS.

Windows Server 2003

IIS 6

Oracle AS 10g 10.1.2

Any hints or suggestions on where to look next are appreciated,

Thanks - Kirk

RE: nobody on Linux

2007-12-03 Thread Richard Colman
We installed an outside NAS under NFS, so the Linux server could access
files there.

Apache can get to the new NFS section under /mnt, but CF8 cannot ...
because it was installed as nobody and nobody does not have permission
to access the /mnt files.

I am concerned that letting nobody get to the /mnt file would be a
security risk?

I am also concerned that, if I change the account that CF8 runs under
(from nobody to some new user account) that something will break under
CF8.

Fear and loathing ...

Remote Admin of CF server

2007-12-03 Thread Jeremy Rottman
We are in the process of writing an administrator tool for a flex application.
The over all idea behind this application is a one stop shop to manage the data
for each instance.

At this point, we have everything planned out save a few minor details. One
issue that I am researching right now is how we are going to deal with the
different cf server installs on our webservers. Right now I have a testing
cluster setup with a test admin server, 2 cf servers, and 2 database servers.

So basically, what I am in the process of doing is. Creating a web application
that will allow me to add datasources to the two webservers. This application
would reside on our admin server.

Anyone have any idea if this is even possible?

RE: Can a QofQ be performed on result set of a cfhttp call?

2007-12-03 Thread Ben Nadel
I think you problem is this:

GROUP BY COUNT(search)

I don't think you can group on an aggregate. You have to group on a
field and then SELECT or ORDER BY aggregates of that field:

SELECT domain, search, COUNT(search) AS searchCount
FROM auctionSearch
GROUP BY domain, search
ORDER BY COUNT(search) DESC

cf8, then why NOT name it such like INTERNAL_PORT? I've now
 revised it to 8800.

It's a port for the JrunProxyService. It's obviously not a port you'd
connect to from a public client.

Yeah, I know the location and the hosts file name. But does
the text in the jndi.properties, # This is the JNDI listen
port. Any port number is okay, but # the webserver connector
installer will auto-discover the port # if you use a value
 between 2900-3000
mean the hosts file must contain the following line?
 localhost:2930
I added the above line to this file.

The hosts file is only used for resolving names to IP addresses, just like
DNS servers do. It doesn't have anything to do with ports. So, don't add
ports to your hosts file.

finding a substring in string, target attribute of an anchor tag

2007-12-03 Thread Andy Matthews
I have a variable containing a string in which might appear any number of
links to to kbb.com:
a href=http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.uy?dlr3
http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.uy?dlr3amp;;tamp;21amp;amp
amp;;tamp;21amp;amp; target=mainsome text/a

I need to programmatically find each anchor tag with said link, then force
it's target attribute to be target=_blank.

I originally thought I could do it with regex but I don't think that's going
to work. I was thinking that I could get the kbb.com's starting position,
then find the next instance of target, then work from there. Might you
chaps have a better/more efficient means to do this?

RE: nobody on Linux

2007-12-03 Thread Brad Wood
Don't worry. As long as you recursively chown the CF application files
/opt/coldfusionwhatever/ to the new user it should run fine.

We had the same problem where we ran CF as nobody, but then didn't want
to give nobody rights to our mount drives for obvious reasons.

Just test in on your test server. You have one, right? :)

CF8.

Fear and loathing ...

Not sure, but I don't think you can do a GROUP BY on a Q of Q. The SQL
functionality on QoQ is severely limited. To see if your Q of Q
actually works, take out the GROUP BY and Count(), and see if it
works.

 cfhttp method=Get

 cfquery name=q dbtype=query
SELECT domain, search, COUNT(search) AS searchCount

Re: Remote Admin of CF server

2007-12-03 Thread Matthew Williams
You'll need to make calls the default JRun webserver. This is my one
beef with running clustered instances, these settings won't propagate.
The default webserver has its root located so that CFIDE, WEB-INF, and
cfdocs are accessible. You can place any code you like here and execute
it. If you're unsure of the port, the config file is found in
{jrunroot}/servers/{instance}/server-inf/jrun.xml.

Re: While we're talking about AJAX...

2007-12-03 Thread Kris Jones
Probably a known IE CSS bug. If you are running IE6, and the form
element which is obscuring your auto-suggest is a drop-down, there
isn't a solution that I know of. Take a look at PIE:
www.positioniseverything.net. They have a whole section on IE CSS
bugs. This bug is resolved in IE7.

Now I'm trying to get the form to be nice to me in IE. I have the form
built in a tabular fashion... the auto-suggest is falling behind the form
elements below it. I'm pretty sure this isn't a CF specific issue but since
these are CF tags being called I'm going to ask here.

Re: nobody on Linux

2007-12-03 Thread Jordan Michaels
Nope. No problems with this kind of setup at all. I would surmise that
the main reason that the nobody account is used by default is because
it is present on most Linux servers by default.

There should be no problems at all with creating a user specifically for
CF and using it for CF8.

Hope this helps!

RE: nobody on Linux

2007-12-03 Thread Dave Watts
CF8 is currently running on the nobody account on our Linux
server. This is causing problems with access permissions.

Can you be more specific about the problems?

Are there are potential issues with creating another account
(like coldfusion etc.) and running CF8 under this new
account, instead of as the default nobody account?

You can certainly do this, if you prefer. Some Unix admins prefer that you
not do this, because they want to use a security context that has no shell,
but I don't know whether that's even an issue on Linux, only Solaris.

Query help...

2007-12-03 Thread Will Tomlinson
Hey,

I have 3 tables - one to many rel.

tblreports

lotsmorefieldsforfiltering

tblquestioncomments
questioncommentid PK
reportid FK
questionid FK

tblquestions
questionidPK

Originally I just needed a question count based off a specific question ID. As
my loop's output generated question ID's, I ran a query like this to get a
count.

SELECT COUNT(questionid) as numcomments
FROM tblquestioncomments
WHERE questionid = cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_integer
value=#questionid#

Now I need to add some filters to it that filter off of tblreports criteria.

I've got this but it doesn't work:

SELECT tblreports.reportid, COUNT(*) as numcomments,
   tblquestioncomments.questionid
   FROM tblreports, tblquestioncomments
   WHERE tblreports.reportid = tblquestioncomments.reportid
   AND questionid = cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_integer
value=#questionid#
   !--- Filters goe here ---
   cfif FORM.tier7 NEQ All
   AND tblreports.orgtier7id = '#FORM.tier7#'
   /cfif
 cfif FORM.tier6 NEQ All
   AND tblreports.orgtier6id = '#FORM.tier6#'
   /cfif
GROUP BY tblquestioncomments.questionid, tblreports.reportid

How can I make this query give me a count of comments using the criteria
provided?

Thanks,
Will

RE: Eclipse CFEclipse

2007-12-03 Thread Russ
Rick,

It sounds complicated because you're making it complicated. If you're a
solo developer, you can get started by creating a repository on your own
computer using tortoiseSVN and then accessing it via the file protocol. You
can access the repository either using tortoise or subclipse.

Get started by creating three folders, branches, tags, and trunk. This is
the recommended way to use SVN. Put all your code into trunk, and check it
in after you certain milestones. If you do nothing else, you should already
be getting benefits out of SVN, by having revision history, being able to go
back to an older version of the code, seeing what changed between different
revisions and having a backup in a different place.

Then head over http://svnbook.red-bean.com/ when you have some spare time,
and maybe even sign up for the svn-users list to learn more about
subversion. The more you learn about it, the more you're going to love it,
but as I showed above, it's pretty simple to get started.

But after reading the discussion on the list about trunk, tree, etc.,

that I could see being necessary in a multi-developer environment, but I
 didn't
want to use a hammer to kill a mosquito...

I actually installed VMWare Player, and picked up a Subversion Virtual

from Young-Technologies.com and ran it. I installed TortoiseSVN, too.
But I just couldn't make sense out of what was supposed to being going on,
 even
 after reading the guide.

I just abandoned it as overkill.

However, with HomeSite 5.5 acting a little strangely, I wouldn't mind
 getting

Yet another advantage of Eclipse. it doesn't get installed the
way you're thinking. You extract the install file to a directory, and
that's it. You can install it to a folder on your desktop, and run it
from there. Then, copy the folder to another location (c:\program

a flash drive and run it from there. to delete it, just delete the
folder. no messy remnants left behind.

This is a very nice feature when new versions are released. I've
had Eclipse 3.2 and Eclipse 3.3 running side by side for some time
now. They're just executables running from different locations. It's
all very nice and neat :)

populate. My query and codse are below.

Unfortunately this is happening in IE7.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a CF specific issue but since
these are CF tags being called I'm going to ask here.

can't use the result of a regular expression as a variable?

2007-12-03 Thread Johnny Le
I tried to do this:

cfset thestring = user.listid={id}username={username}/
cfset reReplace(thestring,'\w*{(\w+)}','#qryUser[\1]#','all')/

but I got an error. Is it possible to use \1 as a variable? I even tried
'#evaluate(qryUser[\1])# but it doesn't work.

The back-reference variables (\1, etc.) can't be used as a value of a
ColdFusion function within a RE tag.

Re: Slow Speed of Ajax Driven CF Tags

2007-12-03 Thread Michael Dinowitz
Ah, I think I've got it. Place the Google ad code (the js call) inside the
body of the doc right where the ad will be shown. If its in the head it may
be interfering with the external calls for js libraries. Speculation, but
that's the only way that the two different apps would really interact.

Like I said... I have a Spry Menu working great and would be ok to

play well with the Google ads and other code that might find itself on
 a typical web page.

I don't get how the Google AdSense code could be causing the CFMENU's
to render so slowly. If I remove the Google Ad, the CF8 CFMENU works
 just fine.

Yes, I saw the un-rendered menu before the real menu-bar loads.

 Me too.
I don't know about using CFMENU, but I have my own menu designed far
 before CFMENU existed
and I have the whole DIV embeding the menu with style invisible.
The style is set to visible only when the whole menu is set up.

Re: Remote Admin of CF server

2007-12-03 Thread James Holmes
Yes, this is what the Administration API is for. We've just created an
app to do exactly this, via the admin API and secure webservices.

We are in the process of writing an administrator tool for a flex

At this point, we have everything planned out save a few minor details. One
issue that I am researching right now is how we are going to deal with the
different cf server installs on our webservers. Right now I have a testing
cluster setup with a test admin server, 2 cf servers, and 2 database servers.

So basically, what I am in the process of doing is. Creating a web
application that will allow me to add datasources to the two webservers. This
application would reside on our admin server.
