Capturing the files that jrun requests

2008-08-05 Thread graham bates
Our CF code base seems to have grown and mutated over the years and there are
many files in there which are no longer used. However unless an extremely
intensive Edit- Find Next operation is carried out, it can be difficult to
work out which files are still in use on production and which are not.

I have a preliminary solution to find this out. It involves using Windows
Auditing (security menu in windows) to log which cfc/cfm files are accessed. I
then use logParser to group these files and count them. This gives me a list of
all the files accessed which can be filtered using SQL. I have this is use on
my dev site, and it works great. However I would like to obtain auditing data
from real visitors for an extended amount of time, not just me navigating
through our site on my dev environment. However, the sys admin guys are not too
keen on enabling auditing on a production server for performance reasons. I am
therefore trying to find a way of monitoring which cfcs and cfm pages are being
requested by jrun.

So, some questions;

Is it really bad to have auditing switched on, on say one server, for one
folder (about 3000 files in there).

Are there any other ways of capturing the ‘live’ data? One idea I thought
about, but have no idea if it exists, is some kind of packet capturing system.
If the live server or our load balancer could capture all packets sent and
received by a live server, and then send them over to a test server which would
effectively be mirroring the live server, I could then run the auditing on the
_test_ server, safe in the knowledge that the auditing would not bring down
the live server. I have no idea how to achieve this however.

Are there any other ways to capture what I am after?

RE: securing pdf's?

2008-08-05 Thread Bobby Hartsfield
Like everyone has said... use cfcontent/cfheader to download the files. This
will also allow you to move the PDFs outside of your webroot since you no
longer need direct URLs to the files. Moving the files will keep people from
stumbling onto them and downloading them directly.

So on your download page you would do something like...

cfif isLoggedIn()
cfif fileExists(pathToFile)
cfheader name='content-disposition'
value='attachment;filename=My File.pdf' /
cfcontent type=application/pdf file=#FullPathToFile# /
cfelse
404: File not Found
/cfif
cfelse
Not Logged In
/cfif

Notice the single quoted attributes of cfheader. This is so you can wrap the
file name in double quotes which will allow spaces in your file names.

yes, I know spaces can be replaced... but that's not always the desired
result ;-)

RE: When is a struct not a struct ?

2008-08-05 Thread Dave Phillips
Hmm, so how can I reliably tell I'm holding a struct and not a CFC ?
isStruct() and not isObject() ?

I think you can tell when you are holding a struct and not a CFC like this:

cfif isStruct() and NOT isObject()
this is a struct
cfif isStruct() and isObject()
this is an Object

Since isObject() will only return true if it is an object, if you check both
of them to confirm you have a structure, you will know for sure. Of course,
if you just interrogate isStruct() then you won't know for sure, but if you
check both, you will since we have proven that isObject() returns false on a
structure, even if you have loaded it with functions to make it LOOK like an
object.

Of course, if you're checking to see if something is an object, you don't
have to check both, you can just do isObject(), but in your case, I think
you want to know if it is a structure and I think based on what we've seen,
to be 100% sure, you have to do both.

Dave

2008-08-05 Thread Claude Schneegans
Serve the docs using cfcontent and secure the folder from direct
access using your webserver.

and if you can't create a secure folder, rename your files to .cfm,
store them in a special folder, add some Application.cfm that will
prevent direct access, and restore the original file name when
CFCONTENTing it.

This method can be used for any type of file, including MSWord, etc.

Heath,

Can you run the following in a test.cfm file on your server (OUTSIDE OF YOUR

cfquery datasource=yourdatasource name=qTest
SELECT ID FROM WHATEVER (just use a simple query here)
/cfquery
cfquery dbtype=query name=qTestQOQ
SELECT ID
FROM qTest
/cfquery
cfdump var=#qTest#
cfdump var=#qTestQOQ#

Just trying to narrow down the issue.

RE: Query of Queries

2008-08-05 Thread Dave Phillips
Yikes! Have you tried it with a different datasource? I can't imagine it
is something with the way the database is returning the records, or even the
driver for that matter, however, just to eliminate other possibilities. I'd
try it with a different datasource (of the same type) and then if you still
get it, a different datasource (of a different type), to rule that out too.
If that still fails, then, since it is a development server, I would go
ahead and reinstall CF and see if that solves the problem. If that doesn't
work either, then I'm not sure what else to do short of deleting your entire
installation and starting with a fresh new install.

I'm sure you've thought of all that already, but I tried googling (as you
have as well, I'm sure) and don't find any solutions out there on this, and
I'm sure you don't want to be down longer than you need to be.

Sorry I can't be of more help!

Sincerely,

Dave Phillips

good thing it's the development server :)

what if you just try:
cfquery type=query
select 1 as id
/cfquery

no datasources involved.

cfset qfoo=querynew(id)
cfset res=queryaddrow(qfoo,1)
cfset res=querysetcell(qfoo,id,1)

no sql involved.

Presuming a default installation, can you shut down CF and remove all

Then start CF, wait three minutes to make sure it is completely started

SOLVED: CF8 and cfgrid

2008-08-05 Thread Ian Skinner
For anybody who stumbles across this thread searching for a similar problem.

Two separate problems combined to make a very confusing issue.

One -- The client of the first person who reported the problem had an outdated
Java browser plug-in. Once they updated their JRE they got the grid applets on
the server that was working properly.

Two -- The new production server had improperly configured CFIDE virtual
directories. The defined file path was incorrect and did not exist.

We now have working grid controls, ye haw!

section A
page 1/2
page 2/2
section B
page 1/1
section C
page 1/3
page 2/3
page 3/3

Yes. Check the docs on cfdocument. It defines both a
cfdocument.totalsectionpagecount and
cfdocument.currentsectionpagenumber.

cfdocument.totalpagecount numbers are only able to display the page number

 I would like this behavior:

Deleting Session on Browser Close

2008-08-05 Thread Dave Phillips
Hi all,

Most of you are probably familiar with the approach below to delete a
session on the closing of the browser. I have, however, an environment
where this is not working:

Browsers: All IE 6+

O/S: Linux (Websphere flavor I believe)

CF Ver: MX 6.1 (I know, I know - not my decision. )

Has anyone experienced this before? Here's the code I'm using (FYI - this
same code works for an app hosted on a Windows box):

cfif isdefined('Cookie.CFID') and isdefined('Cookie.CFTOKEN')
cfset Variables.cfid_local = Cookie.CFID
cfset Variables.cftoken_local = Cookie.CFTOKEN
cfcookie name=CFID value=#Variables.cfid_local#
cfcookie name=CFTOKEN value=#Variables.cftoken_local#
/cfif

Sincerely,

Dave Phillips

No, it's a known issue. The DBVARNAME attribute worked in CF 5, but no

 cfset Variables.cftoken_local = Cookie.CFTOKEN
 cfcookie name=CFID value=#Variables.cfid_local#
 cfcookie name=CFTOKEN value=#Variables.cftoken_local#
 /cfif

First, it's not strictly accurate to say that this will delete a session.
It simply disconnects the browser from the session.

Next, it looks like you have things a bit backward here. The code you've
posted will create session cookies if cookies already exist, and will
recreate those session cookies on every request, which isn't necessary.
Instead, you should only create the cookies once:

cfapplication ... setclientcookies=false

cfif not IsDefined(Cookie.CFID)
cfcookie name=CFID value=#Session.CFID#
cfcookie name=CFTOKEN value=#Session.CFTOKEN#
/cfif

In addition, it's possible that your CF server is using J2EE session tokens
instead of CFID and CFTOKEN. This is set in the CF Administrator in the
section where you control the use of application and session variables.

RE: Installation of CF 8 (developer edition) is not working

2008-08-05 Thread Dave Watts
I ran netstat but I am not sure which one if CF.

You can use the -o switch to display the process ID, which can then be
looked up in Task Manager. In newer versions of netstat, you can use the -b
switch to display the executable image name directly.

I don't think this will be fixed. My understanding is that named notation

That said, I would recommend removal of the DBVARNAME attributes since
you're not using them.

Re: cfprocparam order

2008-08-05 Thread Brad Wood
Actually, there was a hotfix at one time for CF7 that also restored the
cfprocparam order. It was never part of the updater 1 or 2 and didn't
appear to be part of 8 either.

And yes, if future versions of ColdFusion begin obeying dbvarnames, a lot of
stuff will probably break if you did not keep the dbvarname attribute in
synch with your proc parameters.

Re: CF8 and ASP.Net

2008-08-05 Thread Ryan J. Heldt
Duane-

Well, if you have CF8 installed along with the .NET stuff, it should be
as easy as:

objHash =
createObject(.net,MyNamespace.Hash,#expandPath(/path/to/dll/)#Hash.dll);
variables.HashedValue = objHash.hash(blah,sha256);

The thing that threw me at first was the MyNamespace thing and not a
Namespace Blah... End Namespace in your class file. Rather, in your
..NET project, you have a 'Root Namespace' setting under the application
properties. In my case, I just used the name of my company. However, it
doesn't work the same way as CF uses folders as namespaces. You still
need to point to the path of the DLL.

Hope this helps!

Using UDF's from within a CFC

2008-08-05 Thread sstwebworks
Hey all,

I've got a question that I can't seem to find a straight answer for...

Here's the scenario: I have an application that has cfincludes that call UDFs.
It also calls function pages as includes. I've been given the task of
refactoring this app, so that it makes all of the UDF and function calls
through the use of CFC's and the appropriate object calls. This much I
understand how to do.

I saw Ben Nadel's blog and he wrote about caching UDF libraries in the
application scope, which makes them available application wide (duh :) ).

In my application.cfc I'm setting the following: this.udfLIB =
createObject('component','cfc.udf').init();

The entire application.cfc is here http://cfm.pastebin.com/m1c3a1f03
the UDF.cfc file is here http://cfm.pastebin.com/m3586a7be

Now for the questions
1) the entire UDF library should be available in the application scope, correct?
2) how do I access these, this #application.udfLIB.CapFirst(dept)# doesn't
seem to work

2008-08-05 Thread Alan Rother
Doing this

this.udfLIB = createObject('component','cfc.udf').init();

Makes it available within your Application.cfc, but does not directly set it
to an Application var.

To set it as an Application scope var, you need to do one of the following:

1.
this.udfLIB = createObject('component','cfc.udf').init();
Application.udfLIB = Duplicate(this.udfLIB);

2.
Application.udfLIB = createObject('component','cfc.udf').init();

Re: RETS Implementation

2008-08-05 Thread Jake Pilgrim
As far as what I have done with the data, it isn't the best solution but it
works... The biggest problem I encountered is a 1 minute page processing limit
at HostMySite, so what I have done is wrote a script to go out and grab the
data and write it out to a file, then I import it chunk by chunk (scheduled
task that runs every 30 mins) until i have imported the entire file. I then go
out and grab a new file. This process takes about a day with the RETS server I
am hitting, and with the RETS queries I'm using (which result in about a 50,000
record recordset).

In general, the biggest hurdle I encountered was handling the HTTP
authentication via Coldfusion (which i believe is why CFX_HTTP5 was used for
the CFC solution).
After that, it was just a matter of playing around with parameters until I got
the result i wanted.

Yes, after you make the change noted below.

 2) how do I access these, this

The this scope within Application.cfc does not point to the Application
scope, but rather the instance of the application, which contains the
attributes you'd have set in Application.cfm using the CFAPPLICATION tag. To
get your CFC into the Application scope, you use the Application prefix.

is concerned, all the Livedocs versions are equally relevant, and the older

RE: cfeclipse firefox interface browser

2008-08-05 Thread Dave Watts
we have tried to make the internal built in browser in
cfeclipse to firefox 3 but it doesnt change, it always uses
IE as the built in web browser.

we have tried this by going to

windows -- preference -- general -- web browser -- then
 check firefox

 or

 windows -- preference -- cfeclipse -- browser -- then
ensured that firefox is primary and secondary

this does change the external browser but the internal
browser still uses IE, is there anyway to change this to firefox?

I don't think it's possible to change the internal browser in Eclipse. In
general, Windows applications use IE as their internal browser because it
can be invoked as an embedded ActiveX component. I don't know if that's
possible with Firefox.

Filesystem restore for CF + whatever procedure you have for the registry
(so CF will start) and the metabase (so it connects to IIS).

If you use any other service (.NET, ODBC, Verity etc.) you will need to
figure out what to do with that as well.

You wouldn't even need to do that, if you backed up the entire directory and
the registry keys Jochem mentioned. CF is remarkably self-contained. You can
copy an install from one machine to another very easily.

I don't think this would be necessary if you restored the entire CF/JRun
