Re: Java now available on Google App engine - how long til CFML?
Yeah, what Dave said. Cloud Computing is truly fascinating. It really captures my imagination. I watch it with a keen interest. And as Dave said Amazon is a big player. BTW There are Amazon VMs for both Railo and Open BD. You can build a monster server farm in a matter of minutes. G! Re: Stumped by cfexchange integration
Hi James, Yes, I have seen that one. My problem is a little bit different in the sens that I can't even connect. I have even applied the patch that Matt pointed out and still no luck. I can connect fine from IE using the same credentials I have in the cfexchangeconnect tag ... Very frustrating to say the least.. Re: encrypt database column

It would, however, perhaps protect your data from untrustworthy database administrators, but that's probably not the threat profile you're facing. Re: Java now available on Google App engine - how long til CFML?
> How long til we get CFML on there? My guess - and as a Google App Engine developer and Google Enterprise partner, I like to think it's an educated guess - is never. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, it's largely proprietary. Second, it's not used by Google itself for anything else, as Python and Java are. Third, many of the things that are nice about CF simply wouldn't apply in App Engine. For example, you don't have relational databases as such in App Engine. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if App Engine never expands beyond those two languages. But, as Gerald mentions, App Engine isn't the only game in town when it comes to cloud computing platforms. The other big player is Amazon, and you can host any app server you like on EC2. There's even a community of vendors making this process even easier, like Stax. Stax even mentions Adobe CF by name. http://www.stax.net/index.jsp I read a blog this week about someone getting Railo working on Aptana. IIRC They had issues with Railo running within their plans memory limit. None the less it is a good sign. I am sure ppl with be trying to get various CF disrtos working on the Google cloud. Huh... Same goes for CF 8.1 Cumulative hotfix 2 - try finding it on the hotfixes and updaters site... (http://www.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/downloads_updates.html) Heck, 8.1 CHF 1 isn't even listed, let alone 2 (which contains hotfix for a memory leak with CFCs stored in memory scopes!) http://www.adobe.com/go/kb403781 Matt Frew Systems Programmer - Core Systems The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania 215-573-5924 / mf...@wharton.upenn.edu -Original Message- From: Victor Moore [mailto:victor.mo...@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 07, 2009 5:59 PM To: cf-talk Subject: Re: Stumped by cfexchange integration It's funny that Adobe has apparently a fix but it can't be found anywhere. Re: How do they do ' ... also bought ..?
Just a note of caution regarding this functionality - especially if you don't have a lot of previous purchase data. I believe it was Amazon that got in trouble when in recommended that people who were interested in Black history documentaries might also be interested in the Planet of the Apes films. Showing things in the same category/accessories/etc. is a safer bet. ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:321445 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4

You could store user cart session data and use that till a point where you have enough actual purchase data. So in the mean time, you would use terms like.. People who were looking at this were also looking at... bla bla bla While it's still not the best, more than not, people add products to carts they are interested in purchasing, check out the totals and then leave the website so it's not far fetched to think other visitors would be interested in those products. -- Casey ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:321444 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.4
RE: How do they do ' ... also bought ..?
> So Phillip, you say that those "people who bought this also bought > ..." are based on ACTUAL purchases? I would agree with that. Saying "other people who bought this also bought these other items" and then displaying items not based on purchase data is misleading at best. If you don't have the data to do that feature, then don't do it. Instead, do a "related items" or "we think you might also like..." type of box and use keyword matching or click tracking analysis to determine which products are related automatically. I would highly recommend the book "Programming Collective Intelligence" from O'Reilly if you're interested in this sort of thing. It explains all of the math and theories behind these types of features (and a lot more). The code samples it includes are in Python, but can be easily translated into ColdFusion. -- Justin Scott | GravityFree Member of the Technical Staff 1960 Stickney Point Road, Suite 210 Sarasota | FL | 34231 | 800.207.4431 941.927.7674 x115 | f 941.923.5429 www.GravityFree.com ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:321443 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4

Re: encrypt database column
>Who will be able to open and read your database, and from which >application? Some CF app? hmm, i am now wondering whether there is really a need to encrypt the columns, but instead just to control the access to that data through the cf application. i suppose the thing we need to think about is if someone hacks into the database, we have personal data alongside other data, which the client doesnt want, so actually yes some form of encryption on the personal data is required thanks ~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/message.cfm/messageid:321441 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4
