CFMAP and the no longer needed api key

Since version 3 no longer requires an API key for the Google Maps API, does
anyone know a way around CF's restriction of needing one for using cfmap?

I am glad you said that. I thought it was me. I never had a software
company be as rude to me as smartertools. They detected that I had
the software running on 2 servers and sent me a really rude invoice
asking me to pay for the second licence. I wrote back explaining how
the licence specifically allows me to use the software for free as a
backup mail server as long as it has no real email boxes. (I only
have a total of about 10 mail boxes on the first instance! None on
the second.) They said they would look into it. 6 months later, I
get another nasty letter saying I am in violation. I call them and
explain the situation and they said ok.. I am right, ignore it.
Then it happened again. Now I just ignore it. I also stopped
upgrading and am moving most of the mailboxes to google.

To the best of my knowledge, browsers never sent the local path to the
file that's uploaded. It would be an "information leakage"
vulnerability if they did - it's none of the web site's business where
I store files locally.

Re: How to point to a Directory?

2010-10-04 Thread Gonzo Rock

Well the purpose is to capture and store the Directory as part of a
configuration routine. Then days in the future other users of the
application will trigger it to process some datafiles... but
coldfusion needs to know where those datafiles are located. The
current user has no idea where they are stored... they just want the
files in the directory processed.

Currently during the configuration session we can capture it by making
them point to a file in the directory and then stripping the actual
file name from the network path they navigated down... however how to
do this when there is NO file in the directory for them to use while
configuring the Directory Location for future use... that is the
problem... which Dave suggests can only be solved using AIR :-(

Re: Algorithms

2010-10-04 Thread Judah McAuley

I'd say that it is definitely worthwhile to have an understanding of
how algorithms work. Programmers should have a rough understanding of
whether the way they are tackling a problem is O(n) or O(n^2) for
instance. Is it better to solve a problem iteratively or recursively?
You probably won't need to write your own sorting algorithm in CF,
this is true, but understanding the major approaches to problems and
what the trade offs are is probably a useful thing.

And there are times when the sorts of issues that are addressed in an
algorithms course has absolutely been on my plate as a programmer. For
instance, what is the best way to store an arbitrary depth message
board sort of structure in a database table? Do you pre-sort it and
rearrange everything when you do a new insert because inserts happen
rarely? Do you call a recursive function to build a tree starting with
an arbitrary 0-depth marker and then go through until every record in
the table has been visited and stored in memory? There are lots of
options out there and they have real-world impact on the performance
and complexity of your application.

Cheers,
Judah

I don't know that they'd make you a better "ColdFusion programmer" but
it never hurts to have some grounding in computer science that may
well improve your ability to solve problems in general and therefore
make you a better programmer at large. Much as I always recommend
learning other programming languages that are substantially different
to ColdFusion (I've recommended Prolog and Haskell in the past but
these days might point people at Clojure and Scala for 'thinking
differently').

I agree, with a note that these topics appear to be lower-level in nature
than CF programmers have to deal with. CF is essentially an abstraction of
Java at this point, which itself is a high-level language which requires
runtime environments to function. It's always nice to have some
foundational knowledge of how things like sorting and hashing are carried
out way down in the deep levels of the system, but for the most part a CF
developer has no need for that level of detailed knowledge to get through
the day.

Beta Testers Wanted - TrafficMunkey - A New CF Framework

2010-10-04 Thread Pete Oliver-Krueger

Good day, CFers,

I'm looking for beta testers for a new framework. We've been using it with
MillionMunkeys sites for the past year, but now we want to make it available to
the entire CF community as a free download, and see if it helps others as much
as it helps us, plus how the community could make it grow.

The usual question is "Why another framework?" Well, the short answer is that
we do a lot of prototyping at MillionMunkeys and we needed something that
facilitated faster edits and was more flexible, but still retained the full
power of a framework all the way to the end of the product lifecycle. I'll
stop there, so as not to take up more space on the list. If you want to know
more, visit:

http://millionmunkeys.net/TrafficMunkey/

For the more advanced: TrafficMunkey is written using Property-Invocation (Pi)
Programming, which is like Implicit-Invocation (as in the II of Mach-II), but
centered around properties instead of events. I would love to get feedback on
this approach if you're curious about trying out a new approach to
Object-Oriented programming. Pi Programming is laid out in more detail here:

http://millionmunkeys.net/PiMunkey/

Thanks for your time,

Yes, I would be implementing paging, sorting and also a search functionality

CKFinder.setupCKEditor won't allow a customConfig attribute

2010-10-04 Thread Matthew Lowrey

For those of you who have used FCKEditor over the years may already know the
new CKEditor has split away from the file uploading and creating CKFinder.
Both tools so far have been awesome and I've been trying to incorporate them
both into our sites with pretty good success except the merging of the two
programs along with customizing both to fit our business needs.

I posted a thread on the CKFinder blog for details:
http://cksource.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=19071

I just wanted to post it here to see if my HoF guru's would have some kind of a
work around of some sort. It's a known issue so I'm sure they're working on a
work around.. I'm just hoping to have this issue solved before they find the
work around and since I'm not a guru enough to understand the jquery working I
tend to get dizzy and fall off my chair trying to come up with a work around.
Thank you for any help to get this working.

Oh yes! The problem isn't specifically with perl, it is with installing

WOT: W3C Validator install on Windows problem

2010-10-04 Thread DURETTE, STEVEN J (ATTASIAIT)

Hi all,

I'm trying to install the W3C Validator on a windows machine. It uses
Perl to do the validations, and I have tried both ActivePerl and
Strawberry Perl. I've tried installing one of the needed perl Modules
(SGML:Parser:OpenSP) and I can't seem to get it to work.

I installed OpenSP (part of the sourceforge OpenJade project) so that I
could get this to work, but I still can't get it to install and run
properly.

Any perl experts out there with an idea?

Thanks,

Steve

Re: Fake URLS

2010-10-04 Thread Pete Oliver-Krueger

Donnie, if you have CF8 or higher, you might find TrafficMunkey does the trick.
My company is releasing this as a free download today. It's a framework that
allows you to use real URLs while still retaining all of the benefits of a
framework, like site templates and exit actions.

For your issue in particular, you would use regular, old folders. Setup a
folder for each product, the webserver will serve up the index.cfm file in each
folder. TrafficMunkey intercepts this request, and then lets you configure any
page in your site to field that request, regardless of whether it exists in
that folder or not. It's what I do for the link below. There are a few
peculiarities based on Web server, e.g. Apache just serves up the page but IIS
needs an actual empty folder so that the folder can be configured to allow
Directory Browsing, but once you know this, it works pretty smoothly.

Re: Can't figure out a query to accomplish this...

In any join query, when you select *, you'll get all columns from both
tables you've joined. It doesn't matter if the columns are named the
same; since they are in different tables they are providing different
data and are returned as separate columns.

Naming all the columns also prevents issues with incorrect pooled
statements being cached when you add a column to the DB.

SOT: Point of note, regardless of how tedious this task may seem you should
always select only the fields you are using. Unless you know that you are
using all fields in a table and that the table columns will never change for
that table, you should define the fields in your select statement. It's not
only more streamlined, but it makes it easier for other devs to read and

Yes, once I got the query working (except for the duplicate fields)
I swapped to "select *" to avoid having to type the 50 or so fields
involved. It works elsewhere, so I figured it should here.

But as soon as I starting specifically naming the fields, the
duplication cleared up.

I would love to know why, but I guess that's just the way MySQL
works with that particular query. Perhaps it's the way it has
to be done with a left join.

Anyway, all is well!

name the select columns from p.

Yes, distinct or a group by.

This should work:

properties_copy pc where pc.mls_number is not null and pc.mls='hmls' )
and p.mls = 'hmls'

And if not this should:

SELECT pc.mls_number

WHERE p.mls IS NULL
 AND pc.mls = 'hmls'
GROUP BY mls_number, mls

I tried the group by, but as I suspected, that only
would work to eliminate duplicate *records*. What I was
getting is duplicate *fields* within each record.

However, James has the solution. See my reply to him...
