Re: Updating content via email

2011-04-29 Thread Russ Michaels

take a look at www.kayako.com

their ticketing system is the most popular available and is quite
customisable, you can add custom fields to collect custom information form
users, and you can create rules to process tickets in different ways, so
maybe it will do what you need.
You can choose to do everything via email, the web interface or both.

Can't open cfadmin after installing CFBuilder Beta 2

2011-04-29 Thread Rick Faircloth

Hi, all...

Can anyone think of something I may have set when
installing CFBuilder Beta 2 that would cause the CFAdmin
not to open? (CF9)

I've installed CFB a couple of times trying to get
CFAdmin running, but when I try to go to
http://127.0.0.1/cfide/administrator/index.cfm
the browser just churns away, and finally throws an error.
Same is true with localhost/cfide...

I've currently uninstalled CFB Beta 2, trying to get
the cfadmin back, but no luck to this point.

CF is running in local services.

I can get sites that I've set up in the hosts file
with local domains, such as:

local.galbreath.com

But no response from localhost or 127.0.0.1.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Rick

RE: Can't open cfadmin after installing CFBuilder Beta 2

2011-04-29 Thread Rick Faircloth

In IIS 7, the default web site, under Edit Bindings
has one listing:

type: http
host name: (blank)
port: 80
ip address: *
binding information: (blank)

When I choose to edit that entry, I get:

type: http

ip address: all unassigned
(in the dropdown for ip address I get also:
172.16.0.254 (I set this up for local http access via domain in the hosts
file)
192.168.56.1 (not sure what that ip is for at this point)
192.168.1.101 (typical internal router ip))

host name: blank

I don't recall having to have 127.0.0.1 in that list,
but maybe by running alternate ip addresses for local
http domain access, I need that entry as a choice in
the dropdown???

I just started using an alternate ip address for local
http domain access, such as local.galbreath.com, recently,
but I'm fairly certain I've accessed the cfadmin since starting
that practice.

Maybe I should give the All Unassigned ip address the
host name of localhost???

I'll try that. I wanted to type these questions in my
replay for other's reference who might have the same problem.

Rick

Re: Q re new CF9 Spreadsheet* functions

2011-04-29 Thread Dave Burns

The Excel approach seemed like a winner but in the end, I had to ditch it. In
the end, I hit what appears to be a well-known problem and a known limitation
for cfspreadsheet. The current design of the spreadsheet functionality makes
it hard (impossible?) to optimally share cell formats across cells and that
makes Excel hit an internal limit. Excel then decides on its own which cells
will not receive any formatting. I am setting the cell formats for a few
hundred cells in the worksheet although there are only 4 or 5 truly unique
formats. That works fine until I then create many similar sheets within the
same workbook. When you open the XLS in Excel, you get an error message re Too
many different cell formats. (see
http://cfbugs.adobe.com/cfbugreport/flexbugui/cfbugtracker/main.html#bugId=82627
for Adobe's bug report and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/213904 for
background info)

My theory then is that every time you call spreadsheetFormatRow or
spreadsheetFormatCell, the underlying library CF uses does not optimize how the
format is applied. I experimented but couldn't see a way through the CF API to
force it to be smarter. In the end, I had to back off to making a PDF which,
with CF's PDF library CSS limitations meant no rotated text.

In the meantime, a few notes to help those in the future:
- when setting a format struct's rotation value, use a string for negative
values, i.e. format.rotation = '-60' or you'll get an exception.
- I could not get formats to work at all unless I set a cell value, even if to
an empty string. This leads to another problem:
- Setting cell values is SLOW. I looped through a grid of 20x16 cells, setting
them to the empty string. That added generation time of 8 seconds.
- Setting column widths and row heights was unreliable for me unless I did that
after all cell formats were set.
- It's unclear what the value is that is passed to
spreadsheetSetRowHeight/ColumnWidth. The doc says it's in points. When I set it
to X and then look at the resulting spreadsheet in Excel, Excel tells me a
different value than X.

Can you try reinstalling the protocal?

RE: Can't open cfadmin after installing CFBuilder Beta 2

2011-04-29 Thread Rick Faircloth

I think something more serious is going on...

I'm unable to successfully use System Restore (Win 7 Home Premium).

It always gives a message after attempting to run of unable to
access a file... it gives no clue what the file is, however.

I had some access issues several days ago via the local ip address
entered into my hosts file. I had to change some permissions
to get that working.

Perhaps I've messed up some permissions somewhere that are now
affecting localhost connectivity.

During a Windows Update yesterday, I also experienced my first
BSOD in a long, long, time...and never since moving to Win 7.

I may have a looong weekend ahead of system wipe and reinstall
to get everything working properly.

If anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them. I'm going
to start taking notes on my current system configuration and planning
a reinstall of everything.

Thanks!

Rick

Re: Q re new CF9 Spreadsheet* functions

2011-04-29 Thread denstar

There's also JExcelAPI for generating Excel files. Way nicer API than
POI, and I've got a custom tag somewhere around here for using it, if
you're interested.

Really though, I'd recommend using JasperReports. It's an *awesome*
reporting engine, and has a *kick ass* GUI report editor (that is
cross platform, BTW).

You can export in PDF, Excel, PPT, and about 10 other formats. Really
just excellent stuff, and way, *way* better than the sorta
hit-and-miss style editing required for many other solutions (like
HTML = PDF).

Just thought I'd toss those out there. Using JasperReports is great
for offloading processing as well (if you're going to be generating a
bunch of stuff).

Re: Problem with CFMAIL

2011-04-29 Thread Russ Michaels

Exchange causes all kinds of problems, it has so many bugs and oddities and
works differently to every other mail server and simple things become so
complex.
We had a lot of problems with our own ticketing system when we switched to
exchange, it didn't take long for me to hate exchange and switch to google
apps, no more problems now :-)
One of the biggest issues was that exchange does not keep the original
recipient address when you send to an alias, it replaces it with the mailbox
name, this totally screws up ticketing systems.

Hi Rick,

Get to a command prompt and type:

ipconfig /all

that shows you all of your tcp/ip settings.

check that the DNS servers listed are correct and that your IP address is
correct.

If they are, type:

ipconfig /all mystuff.txt

to create a file

then post the contents of mystuff.txt here so we can take a look.

In your TCP/IP settings do you have a static IP address and an IP address IP
address set, or are you picking them up from your ISP's DHCP server?

Just for additional info, when I try to browse to
http://127.0.0.1/cfide/administrator/index.cfm,
I get a 404, The webpage cannot be found. However,
it's apparently accessing the directory, because the CF favicon
is displayed on the tab.

are you sure that's not from your browser cache?

Choosing Today's Records from a MySQL Database

2011-04-29 Thread Scott Williams

Hi geniuses!

I have a MySQL table with a field (fieldtype = timestamp) named DateTime, and
whenever a record is added to this table, the DateTime field automatically
enters the current date and time.

In a query, I want to choose only those records that were entered today, like
this:

WHERE ColumnName.DateTime = today

How do I format the today part of the WHERE clause?
