RE: AS400 Admin ODBC Setup
I have used Client Access Express V4R4 and V5R1. It works really good with ColdFusion 4.51. Setup your connection to the AS/400 and choose to use this id every time and prompt as needed. Create your datasource and put in your lib that your application will need to have access to within the ODBC setup. When you go in CF Admin you should see your ODBC data datasource. Select it and put in your id and password that you will use for the AS/400, save it. From there you should be able to verify the datasource within CF Admin. As a word of caution - If you are running CFMX I have been having the AS/400 turn away connections under a heavy load then it gets so bad that the connection just stops working. Restarting the ODBC services clears up the connection until a heavy load hits it again. The definition of a heavy load is 40 to 80 concurrent users. I am looking into using JDBC to the AS/400. RE: MM Pricing Problem on CFMX for J2EE
Interesting - I have been running a few ColdFusion Ent. servers since 4.5 and we had purchased a 2 year support agreement. The support runs out this year. I would like to move to a J2EE version but based on what you were told makes a person wonder what to do. I have paid enough for the Ent. versions. I don't see any value in the Ent. version any more. It does not share sessions across multiple servers like the versions before ColdFusionMX. I would like to move to Java Sessions but I need a Java Application server like JRUN or Websphere to manage the sessions. Wish that if I go to J2EE and started with JRUN that if down the road I moved to Websphere I could do that without another cost. What is a person to do? RE: AS400 Integration
You are correct DB2 is an add-on. We are doing ODBC calls and calling stored procedures that are RPG programs on the AS/400. We are using Client Access Express V5R1. We have been doing this for around 3 years. I would install the most current version of Client Access Express with the service packs on your web server that is supported by the version of the AS/400 operating system. There are like 4 TCP ports that you will have to open up on your firewall to be able to access the Database part of Client Access. Send me a note off list if you have any detailed questions. Chris White [EMAIL PROTECTED] I haven't touched an AS400 system in years, but I have a client with a legacy AS400 system that runs their entire business. One of the requirements for some of the new systems they want is that they have to integrate with this AS400 system. Is it true that most if not all AS400 business systems have an underlying DB2 Database for storing the data itself..? RE: Microsoft UrlScan and CF
I have used url scan also without any problems. What version of the url scan are you using that you had problems with? Chris -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 2:00 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: Microsoft UrlScan and CF Dave, It was several months ago that I delt with this exact same situation. It was URLScan and CF5 and I also got the additional header info appearing in the page itself. The reason for this is due to an additional line feed being placed in the header. This causes your browser to prematurely think the headers are finished. I trouble ticket with Microsoft and Macromedia was opened but each company blamed the other for the problem. Microsoft said that it was Macromedia's problem because they don't "do" headers correctly. Their "proof" of this was the fact that .ASP pages don't exhibit the same behavior. You'll notice that .ASP pages put their headers up "higher" and so they actually appear in the header section, not after the double line feed. Macromedia claimed that the problem was Microsoft's fault. Their "proof" was that everything worked fine if you uninstalled URLScan. While both companies have a point, my personal judgment is that it's Macromedia's fault. My reasoning is simple... the problem does NOT exist in ASP, PHP, or PERL. This tells me that whatever/however ColdFusion is doing their headers it doesn't seem to be "right". But my testing seems to indicate that it's the URLScan utility that's adding the additional linefeed and causing the problem. So, both parties are "right" and "wrong" at the same time. If either one would change something it would work fine. I also want to point out that this was with IIS5, URLScan, and CF5. I do not know if a new version of URLScan has come out and I have not tested this with CFMX. In the end, my "solution" was to simply uninstall URLScan. -Novak - Original Message - From: "David Hannum" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "CF-Talk" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 5:09 AM Subject: Microsoft UrlScan and CF > Is anyone using Microsoft's UrlScan with CF successfully? RE: Capturing an e-mail address
Take what Dave has suggested and also have an id for link and have all of the links in your newsletter go the same ColdFusion page and you will know the user and the article/link they were after. In that same page write a record transaction table along with the article that they want to see then redirect the user to the correct page on your site. So each >person has an ID, right? So if you put a link of >http://www.site.com/index.cfm?userid=2577 then the index.cfm can take the >userid and translate it into the person, right? Is that what you want? Well, yes and no. I see what you're saying, but it's not that simple for me. As I said, the e-mail is one HTML template that is sent through our mass e-mailer provider to the list of subscribed addresses. It's essentially the same thing as writing only one e-mail, but CC'ing a boatload of people. Using your approach, we'd have to generate a unique HTML file for each user we send the e-mail to in order to append the proper userID to the links. Remember, I don't have access to CF or any other scripting languages to loop over a record set of userIDs. So what I send has to be generic. For example, to blindly log usage without regard to who it is, a simple Filename will do the trick. Then, on my site, I just look for the logMe flag and increment the usage. That's not hard. But now the trick to is say, "log this person's e-mail address(assuming they've clicked the link via their e-mail), somehow figuring out how to identify a user through one static HTML file." That's what I don't quite know how to do. Generating a separate HTML file for each user in the database is too much and unreasonable. That's why I was hoping there might be a smarter way of doing this. Thanks, Dave. __ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. RE: Anyone use this email Verifier?
I have used the following and it pretty good. http://www.mailutilities.com/amv Here is one I ran across yesterday. Seemed ok when I had to go through the process to validate my e-mail address but I have never used it for one of my websites... http://www.validatedemail.com Good Luck, Jim Vosika http://tinyclick.com Free URL Shortening -Original Message- From: Mark A. cfx_spell on ColdFusionMX
Has anyone got the custom tag cfx_spell to run on ColdFusionMX? The install program does not detect ColdFusionMX so it won't install. I have tried to copy things manually and register the cfx_spell.dll and it seems to register ok but when I run a page and call the custom tag I get the following: Unable to load library E:CFusionCFXCFX_SpellCFX_Spell.dll Chris White __ Signup for the Fusion Authority news alert and keep up with the latest news in ColdFusion and related topics. http://www.fusionauthority.com/signup.cfm FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-talk@houseoffusion.com/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists

RE: CFMX and .NET on the same computer?
I have installed .net and ColdFusionMX on 5 different Windows2000 Servers. If .net is on first either ColdFusion has problems installing or .net breaks. I have uninstalled .net and IIS and then did the following: 1. Installed IIS 2. Applied IIS Security fix. 3. Installed ColdFusionMX 4. Installed .net framework. Every problem that I have had with .net has been a security issue. Thanks for the heads up. I'll be installing on Win2K Pro, but will likely see similar problems. Maybe .Net needs to be installed first? or Last? I've seen the order apps are installed affect performance before. we'll see. But to be on the safe side, I'll be Ghosting my installation to another hard drive before I do this... Shawn, I have the 2 on my XP machine. It was very frustrating getting IIS 6, CLR and CFMX to cooperate. I installed Apache and it runs fine no. No conflicts with CF or with .NET - IIS seems to have been the big issue.
