RE: studio errors

2000-06-10 Thread Reagan, Leman

Hello All,

I do not have MM Dreamweaver installed on my 2000 (development server using
studio) and also get the 'saved but not saved' and the GPF errors.

Since Allaire charges per incident and this is obviously a programming error
on their part (nothing under my control), I have not pursued the issue.

I have these also and they only seem to happen if I have Dreamweaver open at
the same time? I never did research to resolve the problem, instead I just
closed and restarted each program (DW and CF Studio).

These happen to me, too. But only occasionally.
The good news is that 4.5.1 doesn't appear to be
zeroing out templates.

In addition, I get a phony "Someone else has
modified the file" (or some such) when I'm the
only one here doing it.

It's annoying to worrying as to if Studio is
going to explode and wipe my hard drive or
something;-)

Don't know the fixes.

I have found this to be the case when I have other applications open. I
think it is because studio is a ram hog (hehe part of allaire's new dna

"room" to close it properly. You will be happy to know that this doesn't

RE: Am I Missing Something?

2000-05-22 Thread Reagan, Leman

Here is an example of what I did to deal with this, perhaps it will help.
(Please, everyone, let me know if this is not a good idea)

I have two application.cfm files. One in a directory called 'login' and
another in my 'main' directory.

A session.LoggedIn variable gets set by one of the files in the 'login'

Subject: Am I Missing Something?

Ok I am somewhat new to CF but something doesn't seem to be right.
I have a section of our site that is secure, for members only. I
have written the app to write a cookie so they don't have to login in the
future. That part works fine.

Now I just wanted to see what happened if someone had cookies turned off,
and of course even you can log in but the minute you try to go to a 2nd page
it loops back to the log in.

Now before I implemented the cookies I did have session management on set to
about 30 minutes, which is still on, so people wouldnt have to relog in,
that worked fine. But with cookies off session management stops working too.
Does session management work only with cookies?

I tried something else, turned client management on, and used a database for
clientstorage, instead of the registry or cookies, just to test it out, but
that didn't keep them logged in either. I must be missing something but isnt
there a way to open and maintain a session without cookies? I changed
setclientcookies to "no" but as long as my browser cookies are off I still
can't get in.

Point is they get logged in and get to the first page after the login page
but if they try to go anywhere else they get kicked back to the login page,
which from the app.cfm below leads me to beleive its
not setting Session.Loggedin, and the only difference is that I turned my
browser cookies off. Guess I just want to find out if Session.Loggedin HAS
to be set in a cookie or somewhere can i define it to be set a different
way. The client variables were however writing to the datasource with no
problem.

Any help would be appreciated.
Below is my Application.cfm
I have tried all 3 client storage methods.
and with setclientcookies on and off.

cfapplication name="Members"
CLIENTSTORAGE="Clients"
clientmanagement="Yes"
sessionmanagement="Yes"
setclientcookies="NO"
sessiontimeout="#CreateTimeSpan(0,0,30,0)#"

Howdy,

Once upon a time, I could set up ODBC datasources through CF
Administrator. Recently, after adding a datasource name and clicking on
the browse button to go select the database file to complete the
installation, no directories ever come up in the window that is supposed
to show the directory tree. The hourglass icon just runs and runs.
I've made sure the RDS service is running before attempting this but no
joy. To work around this, I'm having to use the ODBC Data Source
Administrator under Win98's Control Panel to set up datasources.

Could this possibly be an MDAC thang? Any suggestions on what to check?
My setup: running Studio 4.5.1 on Win98 (1st ed.), MS Access97 databases

because on the next page i am writing some SQL like this

I should have single quotes on each of the elements so I could get correct

RE: Making a unique ID

2000-04-27 Thread Reagan, Leman

I ran into this too, I wrote a 'random' number generator for our 4.01
server, but it isn't truly random and was pretty bruteforce-ish. I also
tried a UUID tag that someone wrote, but it failed when I stressed the
server (I did not pursue whether it was a problem with the tag, or a timeout
issue with the server.)

I am planning to use the UUID tag (in sever 4.5 or greater) after we
upgrade.

What does everyone think??

Is the 4.5 Server UUID function 'Random' enough for a unique database ID?

As we know, you can use Access to generate either an incremental or a random
ID number.

We've also had discussions about using CF expressions to do this.

What if you don't want to use either of these methods?

My assumption is that CFTokens and CFIDs are always unique. I was thinking
of splicing these numbers together as inserting them into the DB as the ID.
My question is, is my assumption correct? Will these numbers always be
unique, especially when taken together?

I can get away with this because I'm taking the draconian approach to
require all users of this particular application to enable cookies, so I
know ALL users will have these numbers set in their cookies when they get to
this point in the application.

I just want to make sure I won't bump into any duplicate issues, or that the
chance of a duplicate is so remote (in the 1 to billions range) that it
really won't be an issue.

H.

But what is the context for variables set with cfparam or cfset?

2000-04-14 Thread Reagan, Leman

Hello!

I'm not sure what is going on here, does this make sense to anyone?

Problem:
=-=-=-=-
Custom tag seems to destroy session variables within the same page.

Details:
=-=-=-=-

(my custom tag simply gathers information and sends an email, all CF stuff,
nothing fancy)

I can see and test session variable in the page before the custom tag is
called.

Later in the same page, after I call the custom tag, my session variables
are no more.

:(

I understand the session variables scope does not allow me to see them in
the custom tag itself, but having them 'go away' after calling a custom tag,
this does not make sense to me.

Help?

Here is one possible problem You can only set 20 (I think is the limit)
cookies per domain. When you try to set the 21st cookie, it drops one
off...and so on. I ran into this problem once and it took forever to figure
out, but make sure you aren't surpassing that limit. Session variables count
as cookies in this equation. I used to have detailed information on this but
can't seem to find it at the moment.

HTH,
Steve
