Under Linux this question doesn't show up. I believe that the license information is stored in a file called license.properties. You might be able to take your CF 9 license from your Windows machine, stop CF 9 on the Linux machine, back up your existing license.properties, and drop in the Windows file and restart CF 9 on Linux. Downside of CFQueryParam and Unicode mixing
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but if you enable non-latin text for a datasource, cfqueryparam will treat ALL cf_sql_varchar data as unicode. Meaning there is no way to specify a non-unicode (ansi) string other than to NOT use cfqueryparam? Port 2910 isn't open at the firewall either. (Without it, I can not work on, obviously it is a mandatory attribute). (ot) Java-Hibernate-problem: Optimistic concurrency control problem, I need a second opinion !
Hi list, in our freshly build Java B2B-Shop-Customer-System (build from scratch, based on Hibernate. Spring etc.) we have four adresses in the MS-SQL-DB (MS-SQL-2000): contact_address, company_address, delivery_address, billing_address. In the end-customer's registration process the following happens (in case the customer says that the delivery_address + billing address is being assembled out of the contact/-delivery_addresses and doesn't have to fill it seperately): a) contact_address is stored first - ok b) company_address is stored first - ok c) delivery_adress is stored from the data of the company_adress d) billing_adress is stored from the data of the company_address My Java-developer is trying to tell me, that this is not possible. He mentioned the following: in part c) Hibernate recognizes, that the object which is the most recent is older than the stored version in the DB. The same happens when it comes to part d). And he mentions that this is a Optimistic Concurrency Control problem. (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimistic_concurrency_control ) I told him that with ColdFusion, PHP and other scripting languages this shouldn't be a problem, since you can store the data in server or clientside variables/parameters. He replied, that this isn't possible with Hibernate. This irritates me, since it would be a major problem, if we have to change the business logic of this shop-feature feature from ground up. Any ideas ? Does anybody know of another good (Java)-forum where I can post this question ? Thanks !! Hi list, we have a coldfusion application producing .pdf-files with the cffile-tag. Our problem right now is, that each file is 500-600 KByte (app. 2000 pdf-files). The customer complained that the file size is too large for sending those files to customers. Is there any coldfusion-tag or other CF/non CF solutions to descrease/compress the file size ? Someone reported a problem with Flex after upgrading. The source of the problem most likely relates to your answer to the second question. You should see a blank white page in CF 8.0.0. That is what I see. Is that a real URL, or did you mask it for purposes of reporting the error? Meaning, do you work for abc.com? I'm guessing you don't, so I'm hoping you tried that experiment using localhost or whatever your dev server is. You might want to Google around for flex2gateway 404 or something similar. You also might want to start with the Hello World Flex/CF tutorial app that is on Adobe.com to make sure that works. ongoing problem with newsletter-eMail-actions: CF is hanging
Hi list, we have an ongoing problem with newsletter-eMail-actions. We use CFMX 7.02 Entperprise on Win 2003 Server. (between 100.000 and 200.000 receivers). The deep links into the shops are of the following structure: http://www.xyz.com/shop.cfm?ml=171,92560,21,24,1,nhs1381639,03081,nsletter,03081-138163966958-nl-3eb938532a4be8b9e94cb5002154789e In the highest hours we have between 80 and 200 current users/connections per second. We are running two HP 380, 3 GB, CF-Servers in a static loadsharing. From time to time CF gets unresponsive and I don't know why. We use fusion reactor and there are now long running requests from what I have seen, when CF is hanging. There is nothing in the logfiles which is obvious to what it could be related what is casing it. Does anybody have any idea what else to look into ? Hi Jochem, thank you. CPU and memory is just fine. CPU ist under 10-15% and memory is plenty: about 2GB on each machine. I guess the newletter coding (and a coding fault inside) + the increased access are bringing CF to a halt. We had a similar problem. But our IIS-web-server didn't requireup (memory) this high. It just hung and stopped working. Sometimes I had to manually restart IIS. Adobe gave us support on this issue. But couldn't really solve the issue. I changed from 6.1 to 7.x Afterwards it was gone. I am convinced it is the connector the IIS-JRUN-Connector. Keep looking for this first. Use the IIS debugging tools. Uwe Dear all, Since a while i am having this problem: The paged pool of my server raises untill it reaches about 220MB and then crashes. This happens about once a week. We run windows server 2003 on a brand new server (2GB ram). I installed cf mx 6.0 and added the update cd to 6.1. We use about 380GB traffic a month to give an idea about the load.We also have 2 other servers with the same config but much less load and no raise in memory here. Is this a known issue? We plan to upgrade to cf8 beginning next year. Remote Server operation failure / 404 error via RDS
Hi folks, under CFMX 6.1 I get a Remote Server operation failure / 404 error while trying to access it via RDS service and ColdFusion Studio 4.5.2. We run Win 2000 Server and SP4. I played around with ide.cfm and the main directory under c:\inetpub\wwwroot\cfide with no success. Anybody who has an idea what else to do ? Thanks. Hi list, I do have a problem with the registrar: riversdomains.com Everytime I want to send them a message via the contact-formular on their website I get: A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: [EMAIL PROTECTED] retry timeout exceeded I tried it with several different eMail-adresses. Does anyone else do get the same problems ? So I thought I will search and replace HKNUSS if it comes as a groupname in the log-file, so that he can see it in the Urchin-frontend. So it is kind of like: search for the cs_uri in the log and whenever the filter sees: list.cfm?groupname=HKNUSSpSessionSessionID=12345;shop;2 pSessionCustomerID=0pSessionLanguageID=1 change it to: HKNUSS only. Click the blue arrow next to groupname. You should get counts per value of groupname. But what is the IIS tool ? Never heard of it. b) I wonder how ColdFusion can handle the requests of two different webservers at the same time on the same machine - for testing - as you mentioned it? Uwe Apache and IIS can run on the same box. My suggestion would be to set up apache on a separate ip (run the IIS tool to make it non-greedy and not take up all the addresses), set up apache on that IP, connect it to CF and do your testing. Once you're satisfied that everything is working, assign the rest of the IPs to apache, stop IIS and restart apache. Total downtime should be only a few seconds... My suggestion would be to set up apache on a separate ip (run the IIS tool to make it non-greedy and not take up all the addresses), set up apache on that IP, connect it to CF and do your testing. Once you're satisfied that everything is working, assign the rest of the IPs to apache, stop IIS and restart apache. Total downtime should be only a few seconds... 404 error under CFMX and RDS
Hi list, I keep getting a 404 error when I try to access an RDS-service under CFMX 6.1 (Win2003) in CF-Studio 4.5.2 I reinstalled the .cfm-ISAPI connectors on the servers manually today. That was the only thing I changed. Under CF5 I can remember there was this /main/ide.cfm topic concerning RDS mapping. Is there the same issue under CFMX ? Hi Mike, very helpful. Thank you ! I have looked into the logs. I didn't see ColdFusion restarting at all. I have seen this on CF 5 a lot, but not on CFMX. But every once in a while the machine additionally just hangs (gets unresponsive) for a couple of minutes and then runs further again. But this is a known issue when the machine is under heavy load. In how far do you mean CF(MX) is in the process of restarting ? Shouldn't this then be visible under the server.log file ? Uwe I know exactly why this happens and Paul is correct about the reason. IIS is running, but CF is in the process of restarting and is not yet handling requests. I am not sure if the problem has been patched or not, but Macromedia had plenty of time to fix it. It is definitely a bug, since the error is supposed to say Could not connect to JRun Server. If you find that patches are not helping, try specifying a custom error message so you don't see .. To define a custom error message, all that is needed is an HTML page with the desired error message and the URL to the HTML file entered on the errorurl= line in your jrun*.ini file. To get the new error message to take hold, ColdFusion needs to be restarted followed by IIS (the World Wide Web Publishing Service). Hi everybody, we have a MS-SQL-7 server piking (+ plateaus) to 100% CPU. It is caused by mssqlserver.exe. How can we find out, what database access is causing this, since I have about 20 DBs running on them ? All DBs are powering ColdFusion shop-systems. We have Win2000 server, SP4. Thanks for ideas. OK, I've got one that has me stumped. I am in the process of building a text string to be passed into a plain text email, which will later be parsed according to it's line breaks. Not building within the cfmail tags (because that's a nightmare in it's own right) but within a variable: cfset msgBody = Here's the start.#chr(13)##chr(10)# cfset msgBody = msgBody A little more here.#chr(13)##chr(10)# cfloop list=#form.fieldnames# index=x cfif not listfindnocase(listexclude,x) cfset msgBody = msgBody replace(x,_, ,all) : cfif form[x] neq cfset msgBody = msgBody form[x] cfelse cfset msgBody = msgBody (not required and empty) /cfif cfset msgBody = msgBody #chr(13)##chr(10)# /cfif /cfloop My problem is, sometimes I don't get line breaks. There does not appear to be any rhyme nor reason, it just happens. This is a matter of preference (and I'm sure there are others here who might agree with me), but the validation code provided by the cfform tags is abismal. Roll your own. OT: Server is freezing
Hi list, on a 2003 Win-Server (SP1), CF 6.1 we have seen from time to time that the machine (screen) freezes. (No interaction with the user is possible). No dump is written on the hard-disk, no event is shown in the event manager or the CF-log. Any ideas what I can possibly do, to troubleshoot this ? The machine is running with IIS 6 and the traffic-volume is about 100 GB a month. Thanks for any idea. OK, rewriting some old code here, and I have a question. I'm seeing two different things happening here. In one instance it says cffile action='copy' source='#thefullsourcefilepath#' destination='#afulldestinationpathwithfilename#' in another instance it reads like cffile action='copy' source='#thefullsourcefilepath# destination='#justapathwithoutafilename#' and yet another instance reads cffile action='copy' source='#thefullsourcefilepath#' destination='#justapathwithoutafilename#' cffile action='rename' source='#thisnewfilepathandname#' destination='#samepathwithnewfilename#' It seems to me that the first option makes the most sense. LiveDocs says that action='copy' can take just a path or a path with filename for the destination attribute, but if the intent of the code is to rename the file in the new location anyway then option 1 seems like the best option. Anybody have any insight here. Rick, I don't know if this will work, you might want to look at which html elements can actually take this function, but I would suggest that you assign your 'anchored' element an id and then write a js function to focus() on the element. We did the trial of ReactorFusion, and now we're buying several licenses. There were some processes (related to java libraries used by a few apps) that occasionally would over flood the system(s) with long running thread processes. Upon installing ReactorFusion, our uptime improved considerably because it automatically reigned in many of those processes, without additional configuration of the utility. We can further extend that functionality if we define some specific crash protection rules. Ray, I'm not going to say that they're FOS, just that they might be ignorant of all of their options. Feel free to forward my message on to them, maybe they'll be willing to give it a look, and maybe it will take care of your issues. As a 'large, reputable company', I would hope that their server health would be worth them taking the time to explore any suggestions you might provide. Unfortunately ColdFusion is not very stable in shared environment and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it except to restart it when it crashes. There is no way to make ColdFusion servers more reliable then they are now. At least none of our experiments with ColdFusion allowed us to improve reliability considerably. The main problem is that all customers' scripts are running in a single process and a single customer with faulty scripts can keep shutting down the server. Moving the customer from server to server will not help as this problem is exhibited by all ColdFusion servers. We have automatic server monitoring in place that restarts Cold Fusion whenever it crashes. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance or you have any other questions. Don't think they have current rates posted, but I know they have great service, a knowledgeable staff (with CF experience), a nice control panel, and I think they just did some major upgrades to their datacenter as well. Helm is my CP of choice. - Mail server including webmail - Site stats for every site viewable by my clients (I'm sick of writing my own stats modules and installing them for clients .. it ought to be something provided standard by hosting companies) *Support:* - As an absolute minimum - support staff on duty during the Australian business hours, not just the business hours where the machine is installed. - set up CFmappings and CF DSNs either through the control panel or with a response time measured in terms of less than 6 hours *Business:* * - *No contact from the hosting company to my clients. - Bill me for the resources used or allocated to me and I'll look after biling the individual site owners - I want to brand the control panel etc for my clients - Uptime guarantee - if the server fails for more than the agreed amount of the time, a discount is applied to my payment. This morning I sent this out to the Nashville CFUG mailing list and thought it important to copy it to drop in here as well. --C-- - By the way, didn't get the chance to mention this last night so I thought I'd bring it up here. Before I begin let me just say that I am not trying to start a flame war on a low traffic local cfug list, please read through the entire message and think about it's text before blindly responding. For some reason there appears to be a growing need, within the CF community, to defend the validity of programming within CF. The uninformed/unitiated either a) don't know that ColdFusion exists, or b) think of it as a low-level tag-based scripting language with no power and a high price tag. Now, I don't know about ya'll, but I'd like to beat these people with their own arms for being dumber than a stump. But, since that's not an option and we all have to work to feed our families, many in the community are working towards giving CF 'validity'. Now, not all of these people look at their contributions like this. Some of this are 'just trying to help out.' But the bottom line is (in the many discussions that are out there) that there aren't a ton of high level, enterprise marketable, applications out there written in CF. There are hundreds of little snippet programs for doing this and that. There are thousands of SOHO business applications written in CF 2/3/4/5 un-modifiable, non-configurable spaghetti code. There ARE NOT many high end Open Source enterprise level applications written in ColdFusion. So? That's the response I get a lot. But what are we, as CF developers, competing with? How about the hundreds of thousands of open source applications written in C++, PHP, or Python, or even ASP (shudder). Applications that companies download, install, and work with every day. With such a great development community, why don't we have more/better to offer for ColdFusion? Don't get me wrong, I love and applaud the efforts of all of the framework developers we have (Hal, Ben, S. Isaac, Rob, et. al.) and appreciate those who crank it out just for our benefit, learning and enjoyment (thanks Ray), but CF needs some well-designed, well-coded, well-documented Open Source programs to offer to the world. Something that tells people We're serious about what we do. We're good at it, and only work with the best tools available. That's ColdFusion. So, having said all of that, and having stated my opinion for all to poke, prod, and plunder, I finally come down to my point and request. Not long ago a few people spoke out on the CF-Talk (houseoffusion.com) list for developing an Open Source E-Commerce application. For anyone who's really looked out there for a good CF cart, you may have seen that a) none are free, b) there aren't really that many, and c) few are worth a damn. Some of the higher priced ones are rather nice, but that doesn't mean that they are very configurable (by John Doe, shop owner and all around nice, non-programming guy), nor does that mean they are stable and well written (some haven't had their core business logic updated since FB 3). So, now there is an Open Source project on SourceForge.net for openSource Business Services (keyword openbizservices). The project started just before the holidays, so there hasn't been a lot of activity yet. I've only seen posts from three people in the forums so far (one of 'em being me). The overall scope of the project is 'in process' and is quickly taking shape. This morning I received an initial Design Document from Andy and it is fantastic for a first draft. This project, though still being scoped, is to be very full featured, well formed and documented, as well as extensible. Part of the core process is to design component objects that can be easily extensible for platform and db independence, that can be used in almost any framework or within a basic format we include. Not entirely sure here, you'll have to read up a little more, but I know that when I 'open' a file with a java call then I must remember to 'close' the file as well, even with error trapping, or the file will remain open until I either a) recycle the CF server or b) recycle the machine itself (though it might only be 'a') Cutter Randy Messer wrote: I have an XLS mapped up. There was something in the CFPodcasts about this (can't remember which, but I know it was somewhere between 1 and three). Apparently there was a new Security Engine layer built into the latest version of RedHat as part of an initiative from NSA to create a more secure computing environment. Support is built into CF7, but not into 6.1, although they may have said in the podcast that there were workarounds (I don't remember). You can check Adobe's technotes, as well as the summaries of the podcasts on coldfusionpodcast.com (I think it's Episode 2 in the section on Stephen Collins guide, but I could be wrong. It could just be part of the podcast where they mention one of the updater releases, which they talked about in Episodes 1 2). Navigational concepts get a bit blurry and its important that people who really do know what they are doing constantly keep pruning the wiki so to speak, otherwise it gets out of hand, and/or whithers and dies. We're using Confluence. Java and CF
I've written a java class file I want to use in an app (just testing). but I can't figure out where to put my .class file. I tried putting it in the directory with the page calling it, then calling it createobject(java,myclass); But this errored out, not finding the class. So then I placed it in the classpath used according to the cf administrator c:\cfusionmx7\wwwroot\web-inf\lib But the same call fails in the same way, even after restarting cf. I have .jar files installed in the same directory that are working fine (JAI, JPedal, etc.), but my .class file just seems to be ignored. Can anyone give me some insight here? iText functionality can be explored in depth at sourceforge and lowagie.com/iText. Mike, Another possible issue to consider, is the production server Windows or Linux? A Linux machine will be case sensitive to file and folder names, and won't allow spaces either. Another simple test you might (and probably should) use: fileexists(string path). The 'file' attribute of the cfcontent tag won't do you diddly if it can't find the file you're looking for (you may have thought of this already, but it's the simple stupid stuff that always catches me with my pants down...) You could also look into a Java PDF Manipulation API (I think JPedal is a little more robust than iText, though true documentation is weak). It also has a limited subset of Javascript that allows you to do most of what you want, including hiding and showing fields based on user actions, validation scripts, and using the user's email client app to email the form data to the server. Looks great. Only two things I might have issue with: 1. Only writing for CFMX 7 will alienate the many out there who finally moved to 6.1 (once achieving corporate approval) or who have moved to BlueDragon. An option within the install to define the server environment can enable/disable features that might be version specific (like Flash or XForms or CFDocument). 2. Use of stored procedures will alienate anyone using MySQL prior to version 5. Many shops may not upgrade for a year or more to guarantee (in their minds) stability as well as testing (kinda the same reasoning you may night want to write exclusively for MX 7...). I would suggest a DAO architecture that you could then extend for different database platforms (MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.) and include the need within the install to define the db platform being used. A good example of this can be seen by DAO CFC's written by CFCCreator. I would also suggest defining some basic coding guidelines. Code indentation, variable naming conventions, db table and column naming conventions, documentation specifications (I suggest JavaDoc), etc. This will keep everyone on the same sheet of music, make code review and revision easier, and implement some design consistency to make final packaging much cleaner. My daddy always told me if you're going to do a job then you should do it right the first time. Although the initial planning may take longer it is definitely worth while to make this an OO application. It is actually easier (by far) to modify and extend a well documented OO app over a procedural app. It is easier to design and apply extension modules/components. It is easier to track your program flow. Using DAO CFC's will allow you to extend the app from a multitude of database platforms. A complete separation of the business logic from you control and presentation layers will force a developer to concentrate on the data to be presented rather than the presentation (which could then be output in HTML, XHTML, XML, or even Flash). And, since you are already planning on using CFC's, a loosely coupled MVC OO approach will break down the project into easily defined subprojects. This type of approach would also make it very easy to port into most existing frameworks (Mach II, Fusebox, Model-Glue, etc.) Would an OO approach alienate a majority of users? I don't think so. If you offer a superior product, with the features they want, then the users will take the time to read documentation to make it work for them. These aren't advanced programming concepts, they're good programming practices. Those of you looking to turn this into a learning experience will gain a much better learning experience by moving forward from an OO standpoint. My two $.02. Hope it helps. While you are doing that I will start on the base code and css. What are your opinions on that? I personally am using xhtml strict and mostly cssp on my current stuff, I don't mind being in charge of the base code stuff but lets agree on what to start with. If we want to do this right, we need to start at the beginning. If we all chip in with the IC that we have this shouldn't take too much time to get through the documentation phase. At each stage, we create a forum for the individual parts, each of use signs up for those that they can contribute to, someone takes lead for each...We finish then move to the next step of the design. Continue until done, then move to Detailed Design. While Use Cases are being created, the Archeticts can start creating the framework within which detailed design and coding will operate within. Bottom line, this needs to be run like a large scale development project.
