Bear in mind that parts of CFUN / CFUNITED also cover Flash / Flex so it isn't a 100% CF conference either. And, given the number of tracks at MAX, you can actually attend all CF, all the time which makes your 1/2 argument somewhat weaker. But thanx for adding MAX to the comparison - I was looking mostly at non-CF conferences by way of comparison. As for Figleaf, good to hear chops for them - I have no point of reference to compare them since I haven't attended their courses (nor TeraTech's). Re: CFUNITED? What's the deal??
I don't have a problem at all with CFUNITED's increased price. Last year it was overcrowded and too short... So now it's a day longer, which immediately adds 50% to the cost. And I think from the surveys last year, a lot of people were hoping to see some kind of food and drinks available in the morning... coffee, donuts, juice, etc... maybe they'll tack that on too. CFUN at $250 was a great deal. CFUNITED at $450 is still gonna be a great deal. - Rick -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Listened to Forta, Liotta, lots of great speakers. As I remember, it was about $250. Here's the price setup for this year. I definitely can't go this time. My budget will not allow it. :( They've extended the programs, doubled up a number of the speakers, added a day and moved to a facility large enough to hold the number of people anticipated to attend. If you'll remeber, many of the talks were shoving room only if you were less than 5 minutes early to the presentation. I also seem to recall last year seeing something about scholarships and other breaks. While I don't plan on taking advantage of that, if you're interested and truly strapped for cash you might look at that route. The conference is well worth the money and time to go IMO. All, While I do admit to being a little surprised prices went up as much as they did, it won't stop me from going. I think it may hurt attendance more that it isn't over a weekend anymore. The discounts are posted on the site: 10% off Corporate Group Rate - You must have three or more people in your group. No, but you seem to just complain about ColdFusion and ColdFusion-related things. Instead of complaining that you can't afford a few hundred dollars to improve your skills (really?) you come out, guns blazing, implying the conference organizers are insane. Let's look at those prices... CFUNITED is a three day conference so the early bird price is $150 a day and it offers seven tracks. Last year about 600 people attended and the overall feedback from them was More! More! More! - more space, more speakers, more topics. Even if you turn up on the day, it's less than $300 a day. The early bird price for Software Development West is over $530 a day. php{con was nearly $500 a day (early bird). JavaOne is about $400 a day I think. ASP.NET Connections is around $350 a day (early bird). So it doesn't seem to matter whether we're talking 'free' technology or 'proprietary'. What about training courses? Cheaper? More expensive? TeraTech courses are about $350 a day (very reasonable). Figleaf? About $500 a day. I searched around and most ColdFusion training seems to range from $400 upward. Hal's Mach II course is about $600 a day (and well worth it, BTW). I'm a little guy, and there are a lot of little guys like me using CF. I'm just wondering who filled out the CF comment cards at CFFUN 04 and told them to double, triple, and quadruple the price next year. We little guys might not be able to make it! Connecting with other CFers opens up more work opportunities. Instead of coming at me with a Red Herring attack, maybe you have some ideas on the matter? The price wasn't even a blip on the scale as far as I was concerned - last year's price was just ridiculously low, in my opinion - so the only idea I had on the matter was that it's a very reasonable package. -- Sean A Corfield -- http://www.corfield.org/ Team Fusebox -- http://www.fusebox.org/ Breeze Me! -- http://www.corfield.org/breezeme Got Gmail? -- I have 5 invites to give away! I thought it was great last year, and sounds like it'll be better this year. Man, I invest so much in what I do, and I don't mind because to me, CF is an adrenaline rush. It's just that to a small-timer like me, $450 is a good chunk of change. Now I realize it will be $400 since I attended last year, and that helps. He got only 45 minutes? Better be longer this year. ~| Logware: a new and convenient web-based time tracking application. Re: CFUNITED? What's the deal??
(blushing) Sean, plugging my pet project... how sweet of you! Yeah, I'm trying to assemble interest: speakers, attendees, sponsors. It's a dream, but I've actually had some positive response thus far. Positive, but limited. We've got a really strong CF community here, as Ben can attest. Ben and Hal Helms have both been here, probably among others of note in the ranks. So we've got enough local audience to put something together, I just want it to be somewhat more than that. So, cf.Objective 2006 would be slotted sometime during the year when either the conflict with other events would be at a minimum (CFUnited, MAX, fusebox 2005, etc.) or its coincidence with another local event. My focus for the conference is on CF and object-orientation (as the name would indicate), application design with a special CF-focus, frameworks, patterns, UML, modeling, etc., which are all things that the CF Community has a really growing interest in... I think it's important we foster that interest. I've set up a special gmail account at [EMAIL PROTECTED] for interested parties, and there's a couple entries on my blog at http://cfobjective.blogspot.com... so if you're interested or have something to say either comment me on the blog or email me at the account. I'll be setting up a central point of communication for it once I get a really good feel for how it will take off. I told my dad I'd hold it in the family room if I have to, so I know I must commited. Let me know what ya think... CFUNITED? What's the deal??
I'm not usually a cheapo, and I've spent A LOT of money on my favorite profession. But has anyone seen what CFFUN 05 has become? I went last year and it was pretty good. Listened to Forta, Liotta, lots of great speakers. As I remember, it was about $250. Here's the price setup for this year. I definitely can't go this time. My budget will not allow it. :( Price Expires Cost 2/25/05 $449current price 4/31/05 $549 6/10/05 $649 Late$749 At the door $849 Am I wrong? or is this pure insanity??
