It is good it works, but if you needed to get support from MM, they would be perfectly right to refuse it - that JVM is not supported.. I suppose it is a risk you take. Re: Java 1.5 / 5 support.
We used Siteminder many years ago in order to support PKI cards for sign on. Seemed like a great idea at the time, then people no longer had to log onto multiple sites, it just picked up your PKI card and you were in. Actually seen provisions for PKI logins within our CFM framework but never tried it to see if it relies on other programs to be installed. Now days though they all want to manually log into any system and just still use their LDAP login credentials. Re: Java 1.5 / 5 support.
Dave, I know I'm nitpicking - but since this bothers me on a weekly basis I thought I'd mention: in most cases LDAP-enabling an app does not constitute "single sign-on". I spend lots of time trying to explain the difference between a "federated logon" - e.g. using LDAP to authenticate users against a centralized directory, and "single sign-on", where users are separately authenticated by a centralized authority and apps never even so much as see a password (or present a login form). Web-based SSO like Yale's CAS or its commercial alternatives would be installed in a lot more places if people knew the how(s) + why(s). As a side note, those large enterprises will consider a platform that doesn't do federated logon or SSO if there's enough dog+pony shows to convince execs that you won't need it and maintaining "one more userbase" is lots of fun :) Dave Ross http://www.coldspringframework.org >> Does anyone use CFLDAP? RE: Java 1.5 / 5 support.
I use it all the time. It forms the basis of our intranet's authentication, I have lots of queries to help our sys admin keep our Active Directory in-check. I have scripts that will set a few thousand IP Telephony phone numbers as well as fix their display names when Cisco Unity messes them up. We use CFLDAP to move graduating students to different OUs, in Active Directory, so that they do not get all of the resources that current students receive. I use CFLDAP to help administer our Exchange mail servers as needed. It's used to also help create new domain accounts, as well. I think more people use CFLDAP than you think. ;^) M!ke -Original Message- From: Snake [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, July 16, 2006 4:19 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: Java 1.5 / 5 support. Interestingly, _06 and _08 were skipped, so there might be some things in those releases that broke some functionality. I also know that 1.4.2_10 on Linux specifically fixed some longstanding intermittent hotspot crashes, so if you're on that platform, you may want to try that release out. The latest Sun JVM is for the 1.4.2 line is _12, and I've put it on our internal staging server and it has been fine. That being said, I don't have any apps using CFLDAP at the moment, though I'm about to start on one in the coming weeks. I'll post back my findings if you'd like. Sure. That is what I did when swapping the JRE in 6.1. I'll try it out with 7 and see if it works out. Re: Java 1.5 / 5 support.
Yeah, I think it will start no probs (as JRun is happy with it) but does ColdFusion run 100% as expected under 1.5? Starting it up does not constitute full support or success. Do all the stuff such as iText implementations run AOK? RE: Java 1.5 / 5 support.
I second that. I performed about 2 solid weeks of testing. CFMX 6.1 would only go as far as 1.4.2_10 (was the latest at the time and I think it still is). CFMX is not compatible with 1.5 because of a host of upgrades, such as generics. On a side note, 1.4.2_10 did produce some stability improvements as well as improvements. I also noticed that it appeared as though queried data was broken up data into smaller 'chunks' and handled via more connections to the DB. It was interesting research.
