RE: Wireless (WAP) Resources??
Jeffry, I have the Beginning WAP, WML, WMLScript book from Wrox (pub. 2000), is the one you have? It's been good enough for everything I need. If you don't have this one, I would suggest at least paging through it at local bookstore. I don't think things have changed that much since the book came out, have they? I mean, WML is pretty simple and well-defined, and I don't think that the specifications have changed much. The WAP/WML book I've found most useful is Programming Applications with the Wireless Application Protocol, by Steve Mann, from Wiley: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0471327549/qid=1020023638/sr=1-11/ref =sr_1_11/104-1952683-0538300 As for Dylan's list, I think it's still up, but it's very low traffic. You might checkout http://developer.openwave.com/. WML is so ugly, though; if you can avoid working with it, good for you. It's a niche solution, and I think it'll quickly be overtaken by better alternatives. Well, it was written on version 1.2 of the spec. Version 2.0 was released in January. Based on what I have read, version 2.0 seems to support XHTML in addition to WML, which is something worth nothing. I am unsure if there are wireless browsers that yet support the 2.0 standard, though. Also it seems to focus on an emulator from phone.com, which no longer exists. I can't get any of the examples to work with the openwave SDK. ( -- it could be me, though ) As for Dylan's list, I think it's still up, but it's very low traffic. I am unsure if there are wireless browsers that yet support the 2.0 standard, though. There are some, I suppose, but probably not in the US. We've consistently lagged behind Europe and Asia with phone technology. Also it seems to focus on an emulator from phone.com, which no longer exists. I can't get any of the examples to work with the openwave SDK. ( -- it could be me, though ) I just downloaded and installed the openwave.com SDK 5.0 version, and I was able to run my existing WML apps, such as they are. I just sent you an email through one of them. So, you're probably having the same problems that many people ran into with the earlier emulator, such as HTTP connectivity problems or the like.
