Maybe this helps point at the culprit? http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=72catid=640threadid=1259685enterthread=y I downloaded license.jar, stopped the cfusion service, replaced the .jar file, then started cfusion but I still received the same error message. Next step, uninstall CF8 and reinstall. I uninstalled CF8, but now when I try to reinstall CF8 the installer freezes right away. I'm in a worse position now than when I started. I tried downloading the beta again, extracting it, and installing, but keep getting the same problem. Aaron, I had to do a complete uninstall, then reinstall. I'm good (for now). I saw several bug trac entries whereby services were not removed (and in some cases still running) even after uninstall. Re: 500 Error on SWF files: Logs Pt 1
OK, round one. I cleared all JRun, CF instance, and Apache logs. I have now restarted all JRun/ColdFusion instances within the MS Management Console, and reviewed (to start) the JRun files located in the JRun4\logs folder. This is prior to starting Apache. The logs for the three instances (cfusion, websites, and controlpage) are almost identical, so I am only including here what may be pertinent info from one instance's set of log files. cfusion-err.log javax.servlet.UnavailableException: Beta license expired. 07/06 08:39:19 error Could not pre-load servlet: MessageBrokerServlet [1]javax.servlet.UnavailableException: Beta license expired. A pre-Apache start review of the individual CF instance log files (C:\JRun4\servers\[instance]\cfusion.ear\cfusion.war\WEB-INF\cfusion\logs)isn't showing anything unusual. I have an eventgateway.log that says the log file has been initialized, and that the Event Gateway is disabled. I also have a server.log stating all of the different services starting (logging, license, crypto, etc.). The only 'negatives' in this listing are: CORBA Configuration not enabled The metrics service is disabled for the J2EE edition These files are consistent across all three instances. Re: 500 Error on SWF files: Logs Pt 3
Starting Apache didn't create any log entries of significance. Accessing a site, defined in a VirtualHost directive to point to the 'websites' ColdFusion instance, immediately gave me the JRun 500 error when attempting to retrieve a (few) .swf. Relevant lines within the dev1.dealerskins.loc-access_log: 127.0.0.1 - - [06/Jul/2007:10:07:53 -0500] GET /theme/Elite/EliteTopBase.swf?navigationlocation=top HTTP/1.1 500 508 127.0.0.1 - - [06/Jul/2007:10:07:54 -0500] GET /SiteSpecific/dev1/homepage.swf HTTP/1.1 500 508 Every other requested item (js files, css files, cfm files, etc) are returned with no issues (200). The site's error log, on the other hand, is way beyond my understanding. The CF logs didn't budge, after the request. No new entries whatsoever. The 'beta is expired' messages come from the JRun instance (not the CF) logs, just after starting the CF instances, and just prior to starting Apache. Re: 500 Error on SWF files
As bad as it may sound, I am so glad to hear that you are having the same problem. I figured somebody else must be, because after I installed CF8 as multi-server on my WinXP box I had the same problem. That is two systems, with different OSs. However, I fielded a couple people and they had never heard of it before. I didn't really make the connection between the multi-server config, but that must be it. I certainly hope it has nothing to do with the trial/developer edition licensing! I'm going to try to figure out how to submit a bug on this, even if it does not technically fall in that category. Re: 500 Error on SWF files
Boy, I wish it was all that easy. We don't use Application.cfc in this instance. This is a 6.1 app(s) that we'll (hopefully) migrate straight to 8 and begin the thorough upgrade process. I have three instances. The 'default' cfusion instance, which I use for big picture admin (Enterprise Manager access) and minor single page test scripts. I have a 'sites' instance, which is where our front-end site code would run. Last, I have a 'controlpage' instance, which is where our backend site's administrator code would run. (There is also the 'admin' instance for the JRun Management Console) Initially I didn't appear to have any problems. Everything was humming along like normal. I was viewing our development sites (lots of data heavy remoting, though some flash instances were just basic animations). Suddenly it all stopped. No Flash at all. In retrospect, I don't think I had ever viewed anything within the 'controlpage' instance at that point, as I was still trying to work through an SSL issue with my 'sites' instance. It (loss of Flash/500 JRun error) may have coincided with the first time I tried to access the 'site' of the control page. I also can not access the server monitor flex app (same 500 error in Firebug). As I mentioned in a previous post, in cf 6.1 and 7 it was a requirement to undeploy the flashgateway.ear within the JRun Management Console. If you didn't you would run into very similar issues. I didn't see this under JRun when I did a fresh install of CF8, so I thought maybe they (Adobe) had worked around that. Now I'm wondering if something else is required. I didn't see anything about this in the labs forums. At least we've eliminated onRequest() - and Cutter indicates he's having similar problems with 6.1 and 7, which eliminates Application.cfc completely. That also eliminates hot fixes since 6.1 and 7 would have different patches. It just seems similar. The code runs in our prod environment (mix of 6.1 and 7), and I had loaded it to my local dev environment after doing a fresh install of 8. Everything seemed to run fine, then suddenly I began getting the 500 JRun error returns on any Flash request. This may have coincided with my first attempt to access a site running on the other instance, but I can't be sure. We had similar actions in 6.1 and 7 when we would initially setup separate instances. You would be unable to render anything Flash until un-deploying the flashgateway.ear within the JRun Management Console, on each instance. CF 8 doesn't appear to setup this way, as I see no reference to the flashgateway.ear whatsoever. (That Flash Gateway stuff was referenced in this devnet article: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/coldfusion/articles/multi_instances03.html) I don't know if this began the first time I tried to access a separate instance? It could be the case. I couldn't get in to the Server Monitor on any instance since the first time I noticed this (same 500 JRun error), but I don't think I had even tried yet (on this install) until the day this began. I've posted the issue to several forums, and seen quite a few references to similar issues (lack of flash based cfforms, no server monitor, etc.), but I haven't found anything like an answer yet. Re: 500 Error on SWF files
Sean, I am aware of those limitations of onRequest() in application.cfc. I have not done any of the stuff that Cutter has with multiple instances. Fore some reason a couple of weeks ago I noticed that none of my flash movies were displaying. I didn't really bother with it, but then I went to use Brian Rinaldi's generator but it gave me the 500 error. Now we've got a problem. I am surprised that you are able to serve up swfs, since my setup is the same as yours (minus the fact that I'm not running from the terminal). Mysteries, anyone like them? I am using it for includes that are needed application wide. Please tell me I'm not going to have to forfeit this... You cannot use onRequest() when you are working with Web Services, Flash Remoting or AJAX calls to CFCs. Read the (copious) documentation about Application.cfc in the Developer's Guide for more details. Sean, have you tried serving up a swf file on your machine? Yup, I do it all the time with Flex apps and the dev version of my own website which serves up SWFs. At least we've eliminated onRequest() - and Cutter indicates he's having similar problems with 6.1 and 7, which eliminates Application.cfc completely. That also eliminates hot fixes since 6.1 and 7 would have different patches.
