Re: CFEclipse Setup Question - A little patience please

2007-02-05 Thread Rey Bango
Thanks Andy. Of all the homesite functionality, thats one that I wish it
could really do. I received a lot of good feedback and I'm using the
FastView method described by some folks. It seems like an okay
alternative and I'm sure I'll get used to it. I really appreciate your
help...

which leads me to all of the folks that were a little defensive towards
my original post. I'd like to make a suggestion. While CFEclipse
certainly looks promising, it is by no means a straightforward
replacement to Homesite. Its a totally different editor with different
keystrokes, features, views and even development style (project-based as
opposed to file based).

So I would like to recommend that if someone is *trying* to make a
transition over to it that a little patience is shown, especially when
that person is asking questions about replicating functionality from
something they're used to. If they're doing that, its probably to help
them ease into a new environment and lose as little productivity as
possible. Sometimes, people just want a little hand holding and it'd be
great if they could get that and made to feel good about their decision.

Mark's initial reaction kind of threw me off but luckily, I know thats
not how he is on a regular basis and I was able to look past that and
defuse the situation. But not everyone knows Mark and not everyone is a
regular on CF-Talk and not everyone has the objectivity that I have.

So again, lets show a little patience as people begin to migrate.

Thanks,

Rey...

I was looking for the same functionality. It doesn't appear that
Eclipse/CFEclipse has the ability to map keycuts to specific views/editors.
A shortcoming if you ask me.

1) not sure
2) add the pane (perspective) to the "fast view"...this will minimize it to
an icon on the side of the screen (not sure which side by default, but I end
up dragging it to the left side). clicking the icon will open it. clicking
anywhere else (like back in the editor after you've opened the file you
want) will automatically close it.
don't even need to hit F9 :)

Assuming you only have two columns in CFEclipse (file navigator and editor),
you can assign a shortcut to "maximize active view or editor" under Windows

Okay, so I'm giving Eclipse and CFEclipse another shot since CFE 1.3 was
just released. Two quick questions:

1) Is there a way to open a cfm or cfc file and make the CFE perspective
automatically become the active perspective. Currently, if I have the Java
perspective active and I open a cfm or cfc file, it stays in the Java
perspective. I'd like it to go to the CFE perspective.

2) One of the things that I loved about CF Studio is pressing F9 and having
the file explorer collapse. Is there a way to get the same functionality in
CFE?

Thanks

RE: CFEclipse Setup Question

2007-02-05 Thread Peterson, Chris
You need to make a perspective that makes it into homesite. You could
do this by having something shut down Eclipse and start up homesite. =)

Thanks for your hard work Mark on Eclipse, its my daily IDE of choice =)

No, there isnt that function. you can make the view a fast view, so
its docked to the bottom, you can maximise the editor. You can do
many (more) things that homesite.

But its not homesite.

Re: CFEclipse Setup Question

I have had my coffee, I am awake and less of a grumpy git I was this
morning (hey, sunday mornings arent my happy hour!)

The Ctrl + M shortcut expands your editor.. that is good.. but I
guess you want to have outline view open (or something like that)

you can right click on the tab of the view you want to hide and click
Fast View, what this does is minimize it to the status bar (sometimes
at the bottom sometimes to the right, depending on your setup)

then you will have a little icon there you can click on and it will
popout, you can open the file, insert the shortcut, whatever the
function of that view is.. and it will go back to being an icon. very
handy.

I am not sure if there is a shortcut for this on a PC (Ctrl + F7 ?
its Apple + F7 on a mac) but it will give you a list of views that
you can scroll with pressing the F7 button

The same thing with perspectives but with Ctrl + F8 (check the right
shortcut on your operating system by going Window -> Navigation ->
Next View/Perspective/Editor

I hope that helps and thanks for your patience with a grumpy old man :)

Again, I'm trying to replicate some conveniences that I have in CF

I would hope that you could appreciate how a transition to a very new

No, there isnt that function. you can make the view a fast view, so
its docked to the bottom, you can maximise the editor. You can do
many (more) things that homesite.

Regarding the perspective I think you can have more than one active perpective.
I only use eclipse for cf but there is a perspective icon in the top right
corner that allows for you to toggle between perspective. The automatic part,
I'm not sure about

1) not sure
2) add the pane (perspective) to the "fast view"...this will minimize
it to an icon on the side of the screen (not sure which side by
default, but I end up dragging it to the left side). clicking the
icon will open it. clicking anywhere else (like back in the editor
after you've opened the file you want) will automatically close it.
don't even need to hit F9 :)
