Well, Ben works for Adobe as their main Evangelist so I'm guessing he's got
the *nod* from the powers that be inside Adobe.

Raymond might or might not have the same *nod*, I suspect he probably has
given his contacts in the Adobe boys club, but overall you, Mr Peter don't
so if I were you, and I'm not, I'd play it safe by giving it the "mums the
word" secrecy binding and leave it at that.

I'm sure - there are others - on this list whom have access to a certain
beta as well, yet these folks know that some things are left out of emails
in public domain.

It's only my 2c and you're your own man, so what you choose to do with the
information at hand is your call.

[cfaussie] Re: SOT - Windows Vista and ColdFusion

2006-12-12 Thread Scott Barnes
Same with VMWare for me.

I had Windows Vista, Windows 2003 (CF in both) + Breeze + Visual Studio +
Flex Builder + Dreamweaver and I was next to no RAM or CPU. I was actually
suprised on how well the memory effeciency is with VMWare. I've not used
Parallels but I suspect that having DUAL CPU does play a significant role vs
software itself.

I'm trying to get OSX Tiger running in VMWare but no luck at the moment ;(
(I get that going I'll be set for a good couple of years hehe).

2006-12-12 Thread Toby Tremayne

Just to be a pain :) It's actually quite different, if you're
running parallels on an intel mac. Parallels runs virtualization,
meaning it doesn't take the kind of power and memory footprint vmware
does - I can run my apps at full speed in a parallels window on my
mac while still running everything else on my desktop. I don't know
if parallels exists for other platforms (never bothered looking) but
on the mactels you have the advantage of twin cpu so you can split
processing to wonderful effect.

I run all of the above on VMWARE (make sure you get the latest ver as prev
versions won't run Vista properly) (Barry.b, Darren etc can testify to
that). I've gotten CF7 to work in it lickity split.

Its dead sexy but mind you i'm running Windows Vista RC2 (which are you
Tillbrook? RC1 or RC2?)

Is Scorpio in the public domain yet? because last time i checked its not on
labs.adobe.com and i'm pretty sure that those on the Scorpio Beta had to
click a magical button called "I Agree". Now the bits before you got to that
button simply state this:

"KEEP IT FREAKIN CONFIDENTIAL"..

How you keep getting access to beta/alpha's Peter is beyond me, as you seem
to be more interested in getting them to name drop then you do to use them?

It did - amazingly well too.

However - at least with the beta - it is impossible to even install
ColdFusion to see if it will work.

Why? It seems, at least with the beta that Vista does not support Java.
WTH I thought as Java is a very mature product (version 6 was only just
released).

So my question is will ColdFusion be supported on Windows Vista? When
will it be supported and this Java issue only a beta issue or rectified
in the final build?

BTW I thought Vista was pretty cool - best version of Windows yet -
very slick but might take a bit of getting used to.

Am back on Scorpio Alpha 2 on XP now as I know that works well!

Wow,

It is that time of year again.

Dale you are very sarcastic today *lol*

Now there are many blogs out there that have gotten CF 7 to run on vista, a
quick google showed me 10+.

Now considering that we go through this every new release of an OS whether
it be a server version or desktop version, but the thing is until Adobe
release a new fix/update the installer will more than likely fail to
install, that's life.

To those who have blogged it they took the time to get it to work, so I
would suggest getting to know your friendly search engine and learn how to
search for these things you might be surprised what you might find.

[cfaussie] Re: SOT - Windows Vista and ColdFusion

2006-12-12 Thread Joel Cass

Oh no, another version of Windows.. Lots of 11 year-old innovations wrapped
up in a new package. Oh Joy.

Try installing Linux.

Linux supports java. Both KDE and gnome have long used features that are
just new to Vista. A variety of tools that can be installed into the UI,
including search engines, desktop applets etc. Best of all, it's free,
openly supported by a community of developers and pretty safe from spyware.

The games are not that bad either.. Good to play on the train. A range of
IDE's are available, as well as the good ol' CFEclipse. The new 3D Desktop
(XGL) is pretty impressive, though somewhat painful to setup.

ColdFusion installs rather seamlessly, except in some versions (ubuntu) you
may need to configure the system to run it at startup after the installation
process. Best of all, you can get into ruby on rails and other "new"
technologies without having to deal with all those odd windows issues.

I only just got back into linux but am quite impressed so far.

Attempting to run a Java application on Vista (the ColdFusion

Subject: [cfaussie] SOT - Windows Vista and ColdFusion

I tried the beta recently, mainly to see if my notebook (an Acer
Ferrari 3400) would run it OK.

[cfaussie] OpenID

2006-12-12 Thread Dmitry Yakhnov
Hi guys,

Has anyone used ColdFusion to implement the OpenID authentication framework?

http://openid.net/

There are few implementations in Java, so might be worth to use their
libraries.

Best regards,

[cfaussie] Re: Restarting the CFAPP from the URL

2006-12-12 Thread M@ Bourke
We always add a password to it as well
eg. &reset=1&password=crap

so a user don't sit there continually restarting ya app which could become
server intensive.
