re vendors api's yes... also be aware of the strict usage and licensing
restrictions with those vendor api's/services
using STContains is really simple, it just goes in the where clause and
returns a normal query,
if you are returning the spatial objects use .STAsText() to return WKT
which you can then
pass into your javascript stuff

BUT, when I call it from my CF9 app I get this error as below. between the lines. So CF9 is telling me that my stored proc has incorrect syntax even though SQL Server Management Studio thinks it is fine. I've double checked every line of code that has from and there is nothing unusual going on. I even created a new CF user with sysadmin rights just to rule out some kind of permissions error. Because it compiles OK in SSMS I cannot get a line number for this error. Does the CF9 JDBC driver recompile the stored procs before it runs them? == Message Error Executing Database Query. It seems to be creating a string string and escaping everything. What
the!?? I need to store it as an actual JSON string without everything
escaped.
Please don't tell me i have to strip out the \ and quotations manually to

How are people finding CFBuilder2? It's particularly bad in AU and NZ because of the current badly unnatural strengths of our currencies - a AUD100 difference between the 274 and 370 is a bit steep though after all. I said it on Twitter recently when the CS 5.5 pricing was announced - for a few of the CS 5.5. products it's cheaper to fly from NZ (prob also from AU but I haven't checked) to LA or San Francisco, stay a night, buy CS 5.5 there in a retail shop and come back home with the software in your luggage and pay customs and GST for it in your country. I know the whole date/time is there. Funny thing is that if i use the RDS
Query Viewer in CFBuilder i actually get the whole date/time value, just not
when it is being returned to CF. Is this an issue with CF seeing is as a
DATE type field and stripping the time out?

I think your missing the point of coldfusion, the days of massive features are over. Cf is based on Java these days. Anything is possible. If your stuck selling on the next big thing, your lost It's 2010, your not constrained by the platform. It's a cop out IMHO to say anything else Cf9 was a big release, the frameworks are moving fast and you can leverage lots of other technology with CF. CF is still very RAD easy to learn and flexible. If your a capable developer you can start from scratch and kick goals really quickly. IE is pure evil, even IE8 is still pure evil, because every other mainstream browers works the same... IE is just plain quirky, even in 8 IE6 is and old lame duck an simply wasn't designed to handle heavy complex javascript and things like the standard event model don't work ( think jquery live change ) or transparency issues The web would be a much cooler place if we didn't waste so much time on IE6 issues, and we'd all be more productive there was a nice story about Hillary Cinton being asked about the US gov and IE6 and the response from one of the guys was nothing was free. If you stick to the standards I have found that you end up just tweaking the CSS a little and most of if is because of positioning issues. That said, this sort of issue is not only related to the IE browsers or IE6 specifically. MAC in general are a pain because of the way they render fonts and have there own style of classic fonts like Arial and so on. Issues like that cause problems with padding and spacing, especially if you are looking for a pixel perfect layout. At least with IE browsers you can use the IF/ELSE technique to include specific CSS files to target specific versions of the browser. There are CSS hacks for everything now, and honestly I don't think you need them as long as you stick to simple standards code. A lot can be achieved if you do this without having to sacrifice functionality or compatibility for the plethora of browsers available. In the end, every browser, new and old has their quirks and to point the finger and at one browser is unfair if not unjust. Most Linux flavoured browsers - are generally Webkit based as well, Epiphany is Mozilla based (if it's not using the Webkit backend). As far as I have seen on the differences between OS's, is more font's than anything else, which I don't see as a huge issue. So really, apart from IE, everything is either WebKit, or Mozilla backends. Not actually that many options. Mark I guess the argument is based around website development verses application development, both of which have very different requirements for functionality.
