Re: [Jchat] Correspondents' names anonymised as "Programming Forum" "Chat" etc
Just to say that newly installed Thunderbird (68.3.1) on this new xmas-present-to-self laptop was manifesting the anonymising behaviour on some senders' names. The procedure described below changing a display option still works, I'm glad to say. FYI Mike On 14/05/2019 17:40, 'Mike Day' via Chat wrote: OK!!! It's easy when you see it! Can you check your address book for entries like "Programming Forum" and "Pascal Jasmin"? Very likely they are associated in some way. Re: [Jchat] Correspondents' names anonymised as "Programming Forum" "Chat" etc
I have no experience with TBird, so take this idea with that in mind. One questioner on the support link suggested that the following advice worked. "try removing yourself from the address book." However, the problem was different. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1175671 -- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
Re: [Jchat] Correspondents' names anonymised as "Programming Forum" "Chat" etc
I have been using Thunderbird under Win10 since the fall of 2016 and do not have your problem. I display From and Recipient (Expéditeur and Destinataire for me). Have you checked the source of emails to see what the From field looks like? v.g. Date: Tue, 14 May 2019 15:00:21 +0100 From: 'Mike Day' via Chat Then in the From column, I see 'Mike Day' via Chat. See also on the Contact tab of the Correspondent record the option regarding what to display. ~ Gilles Le 2019-05-14 à 10:06, David Mitchell a écrit : > I have been seeing the 'anonymizing' issue for years with Tbird. Re: [Jchat] Correspondents' names anonymised as "Programming Forum" "Chat" etc
Yes, I think it is a Thunderbird “feature”, and something to do with the address book, or perhaps message display options, but how to control it escapes me. I can indeed see my name on my message (to which you’re replying here) in the Inbox on this iPad, but that’s only ephemeral. I expect it to become “chat forum” when I read it into tbird later on. (I retain emails on the laptop rather than TalkTalk’s server.) I’m sure you came up with a solution a year or two back, but I can’t find it; so much for keeping old emails! Not the end of the world anyway, Cheers Mike Sent from my iPad > On 14 May 2019, at 14:22, chris burke wrote: > > I don't see this problem using Gmail. > > Is the Tbird behaviour consistent? I don't see this problem using Gmail. Is the Tbird behaviour consistent? It seems that Skip and Pascal were anonymized, but is this always the case? If so, check your address book entries for them. Sorry to ask this again - Chris set me right some time ago, but I can't find his advice, nor can I remember how to show myself and others, such as Skip Cave, I think, by name rather than as "Programming Forum", both in the "Correspondents" column in Mozilla Thunderbird's list of emails, and, in an individual message window, the names shown as From and To.
