I'm not sure what headers I'm going to go with, but they won't be Hooker. -Dustin At 11:02 PM 7/5/01 EDT, you wrote: >My hookers on my 65 are horrible. Re: [Chevelle-List] Remote oil filters
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I have a Summit remote oil filter kit on my '71. I mounted the filter in the driver's side front corner of the engine compartment. I made a sheetmetal bracket to mount the oil filter off of the radiator support. It's worked very well for me, and it solved my clearance problems caused by my old full-length headers. As far as the mess, I just slip a plastic Wal-Mart bag under the filter before removing it. I hold the bag around the filter, unscrew the filter, and let it sit there and drain for a minute or so before removing it the rest of the way. I've never had anything worse than a few drips on the inner fender well. It makes changing your oil a lot quicker, too. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Have you checked for a blocked passage on the exhaust crossover section in the intake manifold? this helps to heat up the carb and choke. Also, be certain that the butterfly valve on the exhaust is working and not frozen in one position and preventing the carb from heating up or worse, getting too hot. Re: [Chevelle-List] Convertible top "tuning"
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List No help in finding a shop that will/can do it in your area (or any other for that matter unfortunately). I just went through this same issue with my 66 ragtop. The front window would hit the top rail gasket if you tried to shut the door with the glass rolled all the way up. This prevented the door from closing properly and bulged the top of the window out when it did close. Turned out to be a couple of alignment issues causing the problem. I asked for some input, but there was very little, thus I will share the alignment procedure that I decided upon. 1-Remove rear seat and well covers to expose the springs and adjustment bolts. 2-Drop the top and make sure that your front and rear windows are aligned to one another along the top edge as well as where they meet. 3-Put the top up and see where the "low spots" are (where the top hits the windows excessively). 4-Withdraw the set screw along the top rails to adjust the level of the top along the glass. If it's still too low, you need to raise the top frame until it clears. 5-This is done on each side with a nut that holds two splined (grooved) rails together. Loosen the nut and force the top up or down as needed. It will be difficult, but it will not break anything. 6-Re-tighten the nut and fold the top up again to check your progress. 7-If this doesn't give you all the adjustment that you need, there are 3 bolts that hold the top frame to the car. If you loosen the bolts and lift up on the frame it will move to give more play. Too far and you will have a huge gap between the glass and top when you latch it closed. 8-Continue to play with these adjustments until it is close, then try the set screw again to fine tune the rail along the glass. This is how I did it, & my door closes like it was new again. No more keeping the glass rolled down to close the door. I only adjusted one side at a time. I was fearful of having both sides slip way out of alignment and then having to go find a professional. Good Luck. Dan - Original Message - > Hi, all. Re: [Chevelle-List] Rust in gas tank
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Jim I would have the old tank cleaned and lined. The lining stuff holds up well. Cost around here would be about $75.00 A good shop will get rid of the rust B4 lining it. I had the tank in my elky done about 7-8 years ago and its been fine. Also be sure to check clean the line from tank to front of car, it can be rusted too. I realize that the clear filter helped you find the problem, but I'd ditch it in favor of a solid filter soon. I've heard - no personal experience - that they can cause problems. Re: [Chevelle-List] I ended up with BF Goodrich T/A's
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I ended up buying them at Sears Auto Center, because the other local places that quoted me lower prices were unable to get me a set after 2 weeks of waiting. At least the higher price was mainly offset by a 10% discount coupon I received from Sears as part of a "Welcome Wagon" packet that I received last month when I moved to a new house (which has an oversized 2-car garage and plenty of "open space" around the property to store more cars) Sears' everyday price for 4 T/A's (including mounting, balancing old tire disposal, etc.) was $401 and my total price was that minus 10%. Since my SS only sees "sunny day weekend driving on decent roads", I opted out of the hazard insurance. Good luck with your future set Jim -69-SS396- H. be careful of the shorty headers as to sometimes they do not have enough restriction for big or small block. which means you do not get mid or peak performance range. although you might be able to run the right mufflers- I do not know that part of the story. thanks greg

I have tried to bend the pipe, and have been slightly successful, but they are due for replacing anyway. [Chevelle-List] Rust in gas tank
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Yesterday, while working on the 66 Malibu, I replaced the old metal canister-type fuel filter with a clear one yesterday, and discovered that I must have rust in my tank, since the filter was clogged immediately with rust. Happy 4th of July to me. The car is stored each winter, but I had used stabilizer and had a full tank of gas. Apparently there was some condensation though. So, what is your opinion: should I have it boiled out, or get a new one? My fear is that, even though I have it lined, it will not take care of all of the rust. RE: [Chevelle-List] Headers - for a '65 SB
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Wes I also have the 1 3/4 headers and sparg plug R&R is very easy. Take that back extremely easy probably easier than with manifolds. I have Hedman 1 3/4" on my '65 Malibu conv. I love the way they fit the car, but the spark plug access is a nightmare, even with the shorty plugs... makes me appreciate the easy access on my '63 Nova with headers. Has anyone tried the after burners on a 64-65 Chevelle? The catalog only lists them for the later Chevelles. Also, does anyone have any exprience with any of the current shorty header designs out there? Currently, my spark plug interference problem is the only thing keeping me from driving my Chevelle, with its fresh 400... and I'd rather look at it parked in the garage, than drive it without headers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. RE: [Chevelle-List] Headers
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List No, I have new springs. It's almost as if they have given me the wrong headers. The header on the driver side sits much lower than the passenger side header. I was thinking of putting shorties on there, but I haven't had time to look into those yet. Thanks for the info though. -Dustin -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Kraemer, Thomas Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2001 9:31 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [Chevelle-List] Headers Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Sounds like you have some real week springs or your car is just too low. -Original Message- From: Dustin Miles [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, July 03, 2001 9:28 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Chevelle-List] Headers Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I too have a header problem. The problem I have though is with clearance on my 72' Malibu with a 1995 TBI 305 truck motor. I have a new suspension and have lifters on the springs to help with me bottoming out. RE: [Chevelle-List] Remote oil filters
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List You could mount it anywhere you want and you will never get all of the used oil out in every oil change any way so i would say not an issue GM used to use remote oil coolers on there trucks and there was never a problem with them. > -Original Message- > From: 396guy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, July 03, 2001 5:46 PM > To: Chevellelist > Subject: [Chevelle-List] Remote oil filters > > Anyone ever use a remote oil filter setup on a street car? Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Rodney; I am putting my 71 back together. New front end w/disc's and all, lots of new parts on the 307 engine. Was planning on running it as is w/just dual exhaust for a couple of years. Do you have any engine enhancements?.. BTW, have decided on the BFG TA's 235X60X15's. Re: [Chevelle-List] Does anyone know......
Since no one responded to my questions I guess no one has had any experience with either of these two companies. I am going off list for a couple of days because I'm going away. I'll be back on Sunday. I guess I'll make my transmission decision next week. Everyone take care, Don Subject: [Chevelle-List] Does anyone know.. I found a guy at jetboatbill.com, name is Bill Neilson, that says he can get me a M20 Muncie for $625 including shipping. Has anyone ever done business with him before or know of him? This seems like a good price but I just want to be careful. Also, Muncie recyclers quoted me a price of $700 for a rebuilt M20 including shipping. Anyone have experience with them? Thanks, Don
