Ok, I think I hit the mother load for all you '68-'72 owners. The
below link will take you to a place where most of you should be able to find
your Chevelle in 1/18th scale. The prices appear to range from
  $29.99-$50 or so.

The Chevelles start on page 3, and of course they have just about every
kind of car except what I own!

Yes you can with Meguiars clear plastic cleaner #17 polish #18.
I used them to polish my speedo other lenses on my 64 Elky (they

[Chevelle-List] 327 oil breather question

2003-01-24 Thread J. Brady
I have a small glitch I would like to try to work
around if possible- my 327 is from '67, and has an
oil breather that is mounted under the intake
manifold, over the cam. I don't have the original
intake, and am using one from a '68 327. I don't have
the heads on the motor yet, so I haven't been able to
check, but will the '68 intake fit properly over the
breather? I was told I could take the breather out if
I'm using valve covers with breathers, but I was
planning on using classic valve covers w/the
'Chevrolet' logo on them.

Can anyone tell me if they have had this issue or if
they know if the '68 intake will fit over the
breather?

Thanks,

Jim

RE: [Chevelle-List] Suspension bushings

2003-01-24 Thread Robert Byrne
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I have polygraphite bushings in the front and
it doesn't seem to ride too hard to me, and it only squeaks in very cold weather
(freezing) and even then not too bad. I think it boils down to a matter of personal
preference. It does handle pretty nice for a heavy car.

Personally
I dont recommend polyurethane bushings unless you are racing or doing some
other hard driving that warrants them. Not only can they squeak, they also make
the ride very stiff. If you are just driving the car on the street normally, I personally
think you would be better off with rubber bushings.

I'm getting
ready to redo the suspension on my 72 El Camino and would like to use
polyurethane bushings but, have heard several horror stories about the urethane
bushings squeaking.

Anybody have
any experience with these bushings? Are graphite inpregnated poly bushing
OK? or do they squeak also.

Hate to spend
300.00 or more on the suspension bushings that will drive me nuts.

Thanks,

Dwight

Just an FYI. I found a new supplier for bucket seat foam sets and unlike my
previous supplier (who always seemed to have them on backorder), they list
separate sets for 1966-69 and 1970-72. They say that the hog ring locations
are different for each of these year ranges even though the overall shape of
the foam is the same, and that these foams will be a better fit than the
ones that are supposed to fit all of those years because the hog ring
indentations are in the right places.

Anyway, just passing along the info that there seems to be a source for more
accurate reproduction foam sets (they are also more expensive, so I will
continue to carry the others for the price-conscious, just remember to order
early because they are always backed up).

I have most of
them on shelves in my garage - even the crap. Some of the bigger items,
like the extra wheels with tires still mounted and the cracked engine block are
outside. Good thing I have an alley and let the grass grow tall. The
engine block didn't make it too far from the hoist after I pulled it, and it
makes my garage area look like a junkyard when I trim the

  Hey,
  List.

  My goal has never
been to "restore" this 67 of mine. I'm more into what they call a
"restification", I guess. As luck would have it, though, the car was
mostly original when I bought it. I've been hanging onto these parts as
I swap them out, mostly because I just think it's cool to have the original
stuff. I'm never selling this car anyway, so I don't really care about
any resale appeal to having the numbers-matching stuff handy. Well,
never say never, but you guys know what I mean. :o]

  I want to rebuild
that 327 myself someday, just for the experience if nothing else,
  andI'm
planning to buy an old Chevy pickup (either a 58/69 Stepside, or a 65/66
Fleetside, I think) when I get a little further along on this Chevelle.
It might be nice to have the engine and transmission on hand, for
example,in case I come across a deal on someone else's unfinished
  project.

Still,I think a lot about selling the stuff that I'm not using, so I can buy
more goodies for the Chevelle RIGHT NOW. Again, you guys know what I
  mean. :o]

  Anyway. I'm not
really looking for help here - I justthought it might make for a
funthread. What are you guys doing with your old
  parts?

Hi Dwight,

The bench
sets are available right now for 1968-72. You'd need to specify whether you have
spring or foam backrests. Unfortunately they are $25 to ship because they are
so huge and fairly heavy. You can find them at SF00130
and SF00023.

Well, it's a company, not a guy. I don't really want to say right now
because guys like me do research to find these people, and giving out the
names only gives is a chance to lose sales and hand information to
competitors, especially since I just found this out today. I'm not saying
that to be rude to anybody. I thought it would be ruder if I didn't answer

RE: [Chevelle-List] 327 oil breather question

2003-01-24 Thread Dale McIntosh
Yes you can. When I bought my 67 Elky it had a later model cast iron
intake and I replaced it with an Edelbrock - cannister fit fine in both
instances. I have it plumbed into the air cleaner and use later model
valve covers for oil filling.

Subject: [Chevelle-List] 327 oil breather question

I have a small glitch I would like to try to work
around if possible- my 327 is from '67, and has an
oil breather that is mounted under the intake
manifold, over the cam. I don't have the original
 intake, and am using one from a '68 327. I don't have
the heads on the motor yet, so I haven't been able to
check, but will the '68 intake fit properly over the
breather? I was told I could take the breather out if
I'm using valve covers with breathers, but I was
planning on using classic valve covers w/the
 'Chevrolet' logo on them.

Can anyone tell me if they have had this issue or if
they know if the '68 intake will fit over the
 breather?

 Thanks,

[Chevelle-List] frt springs

2003-01-24 Thread Capt Crunch
I tried doing a search in the archives but kinda fell short. Has anyone changed to Moroso trick coil springs up front? How much will my front end sag with BBC on there w/ alum heads, intake, etc. and a fiberglass hood? Is it worth replacing the springs from sbc springs to different one? The funny thing is the moroso springs are listed for both sbc and bbc applications. I don't mind a little more squat in the front end... anyone's two cents worth or experience here would be great. Thanks Mikey

Kurt,
There are two different sized springs, one small for the fork to retain the adjustor rod and the larger one to hold the pedal up which attaches from the z-bar to a bracket attached to the body. I pumped grease into the Z-bar until it started to put slight pressure against the pivot balls. Good luck.

Re: [Chevelle-List] 70 for sale

2003-01-24 Thread Kent Lewis
Jason,

Back in June of 1984 while serving in the US Navy, I was stationed at the
US Naval Shipyards in Norfolk, VA. Being an enlisted man, I didn't have
much money. But I managed to find a one owner '68 Chevelle Malibu that was
traded into a small local car lot. I remember seeing the car for the first
time one evening on our way through town. I made my buddy pull into the lot
so I could check it out. My heart was PUMPING ! This was it ! I was at
the lot the next morning before they opened. Played my best not really
interested act, but in the end they still got what they were asking for the
car. So, I made payments until it was paid off. Now I was the second
owner. I still have the '68, its parked in the garage waiting for me to
finish it. And thanks to Jason, I realized the little car lot is still in
business, after all these years. The link he provided is that same little
car lot where I purchased my car almost 19 years ago.

Thanks for the memoriesIM LOVING IT !

I found a buyer and went to get my car back and he wouldn't give it back. I
tried to be nice and dragged my cheif down there with me and the dealer said
Your just as stupid as your wife if you think I am going to give you your

Thought my cheif was going to kill the guy. Had to get Navy legal involved
