[Chevelle-List] Electrical suggestions?
I am hoping that someone will have a little more insight into this issue since I am totally clueless… I got my car back from the shop not to long ago and was testing everything out. I found a few days ago that none of my instrument lights are coming on when I have my running lights or head lights on. Neither the instrument gauges nor the floor shifter light up like normal. I was hit pretty hard in the left rear so I thought maybe some connections were loose but I haven’t been able to find anything yet. The fuse is good and the wiring harness connection through the firewall seems ok. All other interior lights (the headlamp and map lights) work fine… It’s hard to see in the dash since its such a rats nest but does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? I know when I have a loose brake light bulb, both of my brake lights go out… Is this the sort of the same thing? Should I be checking bulbs? Thanks!! CR

RE: [Chevelle-List] where to find build sheets
Jason, My 71 had them sewn into the seat and on top of the gas tank. I have not had the dash out of the car yet, or the door panels apart...but someone else probably has over the years. http://webpages.charter.net/perfmark/cars/chevelle/buildsheet/build_sheet_fo und.htm Mark -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Jason Boivin Sent: Tuesday, March 18, 2003 7:34 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Chevelle-List] where to find build sheets I am sorry you all for having to ask this again. RE: [Chevelle-List] where to find build sheets
Sang to the tune of "Unicorn" by the Irish Rovers If you're lookin for places, to find build sheets, You'll be lookin all over, includin the seats. You can look on the gas tank, when you take it on down, But ya won't find the build sheet online or in town. You can look in the headliner for anything brown, Keep looking in speakers, even look upside down. In the doors, under floors, and under the rug, Look behind insulation! just give it a tug! Look behind the glove box, and even in books Keep searchin on the firewall, and in crannies and nooks! It may not be anywhere, but sure as you're born, 'ya won't find a build sheet in the dirty ole horn. Re: [Chevelle-List] Battery Draining
I had a charging problem this week with my 69. The former owner of my car had installed an elaborate alarm system and it was causing all sorts of bugs,,a failed starter for one. I installed a new starter yesterday but it would only start by using the old screwdriver trick. The solution was to remove the alarm system and re-wire everything. It now starts like a charm. Re: [Chevelle-List] where to find build sheets
They can be found just about anywhere. Under carpet, behind door panels, under seats, in the headliner, on top of gas tank, behind kick panels, in the dash just to name a few. Tom
Re: [Chevelle-List] Battery Draining
I had the same problem and it turned out to be the voltage regulator . Make sure the alt. belt is tight and change the regulator, cheap things first . After I did that , the regulator told the Alt. to CHARGE. It was fine after that.

RE: [Chevelle-List] Stainless Steel brake lines & fuel lines
Steve, I used stainless for fuel and brakes for my 71SS. They were prebent. I had one leak with the input to the proportioning valve. The line did not line up strait but the nut started so I tightened it down. Like everybody talks about, the stuff does not conform. I had to take the line loose and rebend it to come in strait into the prop valve. All is well now. I like the look of ss, and that rust is not a problem inside or outside the line. If you are going through all the work of a frame off, the stainless is a good way to go. You have complete access to hook almost everything up, except maybe the feeder line from the master cylinder. Actually, the way to go is put the feeder on the prop valve with the body off and then bend it to get it strait into the master cylinder where you can get at it easier. Good luck. RE: [Chevelle-List] Battery Draining
Title: Message If that meter you are using has a current or "amp" setting, disconnect one of the battery cables and put one lead on the battery terminal and the other on the lead you just took off. That should show you if there is any current flowing from the battery through the circuits. Make sure the door is closed and you don't have a light under the hood that's on to throw you off. I'd double check that your charging system is charging. Measure voltage at the battery when the car is running. It should be above 12 volts and usually above 14 volts. If your belts are squealing when you give it gas your belt may not be tight enough to keep from slipping when your alternator is tying to charge. Go out in your garage at night and turn off the lights with the car in there or if it's outside turn off outside lights and see if you see anything or hear anything on that shouldn't be. Feel any electronics to see if it's warm. That should get you started. Steve -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]On Behalf Of John W. I did not put it in the car until after I finished with the cam swap. When I connected the positive terminal I thought I saw a slight spark. Fired it up and did the cam break in yesterday then took it out for a little spin, couldn't wait to get her on the road again, parked her about 1:00 pm to lay down for a short nap because I had to work the night shift last night. When I came home this morning I was going to fire her up again, LOVE THE SOUND OF THOSE FLOWMASTER SERIES 40'S, but the battery was dead again with no blown fuses. I hooked up my continuity meter to the battery cable connectors but the meter showed no short throughout the entire electrical system. Leaving the meter hooked up I opened the door and tried a few other switches, ignition switch, etc. and the meter showed completed loops every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated but I will have to read the responses later as it it time for me to get some sleep because I have to back to work tonight. Thanks in advance, John L. [Chevelle-List] '66 trunk light verification
My '66 Chevelle SS originally had a factory trunk light. I purchased a trunk light on Ebay coming off a 67 four door - I would imagine the trunk lids are the same design. However, my Ebay light does not look or physically fit the way the trunk light shows in the 1966 Chevelle / El Camino Factory Assembly Manual. Can anybody with a '66 Chevelle with a factory trunk light, describe their trunk light and it's installation. My Ebay one looks like it clipped on the edge of a hole with a screw going through the outer clip and into sub framing of the trunk lid. Where as the drawing in the manual shows the light assembly full mounted on the inside the square hole left of the trunk latch with one screw going through the sub frame of the trunk lid into the light bracket. On know things changed from drawings to actual, but looking for some clarifications. Some things a tough to describe, Thanks for any help, Krister Meister Bartlett, IL '66 SS #'s matching - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
