Many times the codes are very difficult to read andshould be 
stamped onthe bottom left or right axle tube either adjacent to the carrier 
housing or about 8"-10" inboard from the backing plates for 65-69 rear 
ends.An examplestamping would be something like GC1025B 
for3.36 Posi, Oct 25, Buffalo. Check the rear spring mounting 
pad. The rear springshould have a plate and boltholding the 
bottom of the spring,later years used a smaller pigtail that slipped over 
a 1"-2" cup. I've been told that 67 was a transition year and could have

examples of each. Rear end widths are the same from 64-67,68-72 are 
wider so if it came out of a 65, it should fit.

the center section C216 -March 21, 
1966.

Pull the side 
plug and let it drain till you have just a trickle coming out then 
replace the plug. You need to get a Chevelle shop manual. It will really 
help you out.

It looks like your doing quite a bit of work on your
car, a suggestion would be to purchase a Chiltons
manual for your car. It would make your life quite a
bit easyer and a lot less stressfull when doing repair
work your not used to doing, they run about $15.00
USD.

[Chevelle-List] Strange Dilemma= which to keep vs. which to sell

This may sound like a lame question, but rambling thoughts on too many classic cars causes me to ask opinions about selling one (or even two):

- I have a 67 Chevelle SS, 67 Chevelle Malibu, and 57 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe

a. I have to sell at least one of these vehicles.

b. The 67 Chevelle SS is matching numbers and completely restored so it stays. Appraised at 32K. But, you would not want to use as a daily driver. 

c. The 67 Chevelle Malibu has a 383 stroker, headers, and in great condition. New gas tank, new radiator. Engine good condition. Little rust. A good driver. Not a show car.Brakes have to be upgraded. Interior original and new headliner and carpeting. Great
condition. Has powerglide trans. Can be upgraded to 350 turbo. Underneath of car has the classic rust coating they used in 60's and 70's. Sounds loud and proud. Carter Carb,
nice stereo system. Alarm. 


d. The 57 Chevy has original 283 engine and powerglide trans. Re-done interior, power steering and front disc. brakes, new gas tank, new radiator. Needs new trunk pan, and 
2 new inner fender wells. Needs frame to be sandblasted. Needs to have engine bay and
hood to also be sandblasted. Not a show car, but a good cruiser.

So between the 67 Chevelle Malibu and 57 Chevy which one would you keep. The 57 Chevy probably has more value than the 67 Malibu. I love the way the 67 Malibu handles
but guidebooks indicate value is much less than a 67 SS--or even a 57 Chevy.

Well, again, lame question. But, one has got to go.

Thoughts ?

mainly because it would probably give you more money for the other two cars, and

[Chevelle-List] Retro tires.

Any comments on the retro bias ply tires that Good Year and Firestone make?
I am of the age where everything I have owned has had radials.  I am curious
about the traction of the bias ply vs. the radial.  I expect the ride to be
a little rougher, smoother ride is a benefit of radials.

I ordered Good Year Poly Glas F60's for my Chevelle, my build sheet had the
code for 15 F60.

[Chevelle-List] 1972 Chevelle for sale....

Hi guys.

I have some bad news, I will be selling my 1972 Chevelle.  My dad and I
recently purchased a brand new truck and cannot afford to keep the chevelle.
I am listing it here for anyone before I put it in the paper.  The asking
price is $2,500.  Here is the description of the car:

- Body is solid with rust on the quarter panels.
- Rocker panels have some rust on the edge.
- The worst feature on the car is the trunk, it is completely wasted.
- underbody suprisely is very solid and has no rust.  Floorboards are rust
free.
- The motor leaks oil around the bottom of the timing chain cover and
the front of the oil pan.  It also burns oil (valve seals).
- Transmission is very strong, shifts wonderfully.
- Motor is 350 2 bbl (Option L65) with Turbo Hydra-Matic 350.  Great setup.
Heard this is the original motor from the previous owner, but I have not
verified it.
- Interior is PERFECT with the exception of the bench seat.  the drivers
side is torn up.  There is a tiny hole in the headliner from the previous
owner putting pens on the sun visors and the pen poked a hole in the liner.
- The rear window has rust bubbles around it.
- The fender tag tells us that the car was originally sequoia green (48)
with a black vinyl top.  However, the previous owner opted not to have one,
so he took off the vinyl top and filled the holes with bondo.  The car was
equipped with option A52 (bench seat) which is in the car.
- I am located in Pittsburgh area in Pennsylvania.
- I have pictures of the car, and I will take high quality pictures of all
the bad and good spots of the car to show people.

bench seat.  48 - sequoia green. B - black vinyl top.
05A - built on first week of may.  ?0405?
- Here are the percentages of how many chevelles were built with my options.
There were 374,448 Chevelles made in 1972:

Automatic - 94.8% or 354,977 Chevelles equipped.
Optional V-8 - 56.3% or 210,814 Chevelles equipeed.
AM radio - 86.3% or 323,149 Chevelles equipped.
Air Conditioning - 62.8% or 235,153 Chevelles equipped.
Power Steering - 92.9% or 347,862 Chevelles equipped.
Power Front Disc Brakes - 30.2% or 113,083 Chevelles equipped.
Vinyl Top - 44.6% or 167,004 Chevelles equipped.
Dual Exhaust - 3% or 11,233 Chevelles equipped.
Posi Traction - 6.4% or 23,965 Chevelles equipped.

As you can see, the rarest options I have are the true dual exhausts and
Posi Traction.

[Chevelle-List] noisy speedo

I have a pretty chattery speedo in my car, not loud
but enough to annoy the driver.  Any thoughts if it is
just the cable, or would the speedo be responsible? 
Would a little WD-40 quiet it down?

I guess I shouldn't complain- This time last year, the
speedo only read 0 (sitting in the garage)  8^]

Jim,
I wouldn't use wd-40. You want to use dry graphite powder. It is available
at the auto parts stores, I believe, in a tube the size of a sharpie pen.
Disconnect the speedo from under the dash and squeeze the tube to blow the
graphite in and reconnect. It shouldn't take long to start working. This
stuff is also good for door locks.

just the cable, or would the speedo be responsible?
Would a little WD-40 quiet it down?

I guess I shouldn't complain- This time last year, the
speedo only read 0 (sitting in the garage)  8^]

Jim, Don't use WD40. Use a white lithium grease and use it lightly. If you
remove the cable you can hang it over night and let the lubricant work it's
way down the length by gravity. WD40 will make things better briefly and
then worst after it evaporates.
The Kano products others have mentioned on this list are also very good.

 Hi guys.

 I have some bad news, I will be selling my 1972 Chevelle.  My dad and I
 recently purchased a brand new truck and cannot afford to keep the
chevelle.
 I am listing it here for anyone before I put it in the paper.  The asking
 price is $2,500.  Here is the description of the car:

 - Body is solid with rust on the quarter panels.
 - Rocker panels have some rust on the edge.
 - The worst feature on the car is the trunk, it is completely wasted.
 - underbody suprisely is very solid and has no rust.  Floorboards are rust
 free.
 - The motor leaks oil around the bottom of the timing chain cover and
 the front of the oil pan.  It also burns oil (valve seals).
 - Transmission is very strong, shifts wonderfully.
 - Motor is 350 2 bbl (Option L65) with Turbo Hydra-Matic 350.  Great
setup.
 Heard this is the original motor from the previous owner, but I have not
 verified it.
 - Interior is PERFECT with the exception of the bench seat.  the drivers
 side is torn up.  There is a tiny hole in the headliner from the previous
 owner putting pens on the sun visors and the pen poked a hole in the
liner.
 - The rear window has rust bubbles around it.
 - The fender tag tells us that the car was originally sequoia green (48)
 with a black vinyl top.  However, the previous owner opted not to have
one,
 so he took off the vinyl top and filled the holes with bondo.  The car was
 equipped with option A52 (bench seat) which is in the car.
 - I am located in Pittsburgh area in Pennsylvania.
 - I have pictures of the car, and I will take high quality pictures of all
 the bad and good spots of the car to show people.

 - Here are the percentages of how many chevelles were built with my
options.
 There were 374,448 Chevelles made in 1972:

 Automatic - 94.8% or 354,977 Chevelles equipped.
 Optional V-8 - 56.3% or 210,814 Chevelles equipeed.
 AM radio - 86.3% or 323,149 Chevelles equipped.
 Air Conditioning - 62.8% or 235,153 Chevelles equipped.
 Power Steering - 92.9% or 347,862 Chevelles equipped.
 Power Front Disc Brakes - 30.2% or 113,083 Chevelles equipped.
 Vinyl Top - 44.6% or 167,004 Chevelles equipped.
 Dual Exhaust - 3% or 11,233 Chevelles equipped.
 Posi Traction - 6.4% or 23,965 Chevelles equipped.

 As you can see, the rarest options I have are the true dual exhausts and
 Posi Traction.

[Chevelle-List] Gateway Area Chevelle Club info

It is hosted this year by the GACC here in St. Louis. I just picked up my 
1968 Chevelle SS from the restoration shop where I had them do a little touch-up 
work so I will be ready for this show in Sept.

By the way, they are still 
looking for people to assist in several areas during the show, including 
judging, security, etc. There are many great places to stay overnight in

Keep the 57,you already have a kick ass 67.This way 
you have a "new style" car that is still almost 40 years old and an "old style" 
car ,when you are in the mood for 50,s cruising thatwill be a half 
century old in less than 4 years.Nice problem to have.
