Re: [Chevelle-list] Specs on Factory 350 HP Cam
Ron: The 1969 396-350 HP hydraulic lifter cam had a .461 intake lift, .480 exhaust lift, 350 intake duration, 352 exhaust duration and a 1.70 rocker ratio. The part number was #3883986 and the casting number was #3883944. The heads #3964290 had a 2.06 intake and a 1.72 exhaust. the combustion chamber was 100.967 cc. Notes: This cylinder head is identical with #3931063 except that the spark plug seat was changed to the tapered , "peanut" type. This head was also used in the 1970 model year. It is possible, due to late model releases in 1970, that two cylinder heads could have close or matching casting dates and be tapped for different spark plug seats. Look closely at these heads. Re:[Chevelle-list] Rear Main Bearing Cap
The other three ??? I hope you mean four ?? I know its different than the others on your engine but I didnt know if its different than another rear cap of another BBC, sorry that I explained tha bad. rear cap and front caps are unique but the three center caps are the same. What about converting to oliver or milodon caps now that you have to align bore anyway ?? I know that Oliver makes rear caps forSBC, nt sure about BBC ciao André Andre, The rear cap appears more stout than the other three. I suppose it was designed to take more stress than the other three. I have found sources for the other three bearings, but still looking for the rear. John: It's a 4 bolt main buddy. RE: [Chevelle-list] New Shoes
I know, its always hard to get it looking low on pictures. Have you changed the rear springs then ?? I remembered it as sitting lower in the rear than the front before (maybe because you hauled old engines in the bed haha) Ciao André Hi André, It's actually sitting a little higher than it used to. In real life it doesn't look so high, but the pictures give the impression it's a lot higher. Re: [Chevelle-list] best 5 speed shifter for richmond?
I had the regular Hurst shifter for the Richmond 5 speed on my 67. It was a good shifter with no problems. Now I have the v-gate 2 and I love it.
RE: [Chevelle-list] Specs on Factory 350 HP Cam
Those duration numbers can't be right. There's only 360 degrees in one rotation, leaving the valves closed for only 8-10 degrees! -Dave -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2004 2:41 AMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Specs on Factory 350 HP CamRon: The 1969 396-350 HP hydraulic lifter cam had a .461 intake lift, .480 exhaust lift, 350 intake duration, 352 exhaust duration and a 1.70 rocker ratio. Re: [Chevelle-list] Need help to identify a GM rear view mirror
Hey Donnie Just by going with the description I will have to guess that it is for a car that was built after 1971 due to federal guidelines about the glare from chrome rearview mirrors... Maybe Dale or someone with a parts book can look it up for you. You might want to take a measurement on it too, might be helpful in ID'ing it. Can anyone identify it? If so... what do you think it's worth. I can send a pic off list if you need it. Thanks Donnie __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! At 09:38 AM 1/14/2004, you wrote: Those duration numbers can't be right. There's only 360 degrees in one rotation, leaving the valves closed for only 8-10 degrees! -Dave Cam duration is given in crankshaft degrees. The crank turns twice (720 deg) for every single revolution of the cam (2:1 ration on the timing gears). So it's possible to have more than 360 deg. of duration, although that's WAY too much for a stock cam (or any other--the most is usually in the low 300s). Duration can also be measured in different ways that will affect the numbers. I you measure at .002 of valve lift, you will have more duration than if you measure at .050 lift. That's why it's important when comparing numbers between cams that you use the same [EMAIL PROTECTED] figures. Comp Cams makes a Pro-Mod cam that has 360 deg advertised exhaust duration and is 320 deg @ .050 lift with .867 total lift, but you wouldn't run that in your street ride! I wonder if Larry accidently hit the 3 key instead of the 2 key.??? BL

[Chevelle-list] Headlamp Switch
Someone mentioned that if your instrument lights go out it might be the headlamp switch (or a bad ground). My switch is pretty much toast anyhow so I thought I would start there. Does anyone know if there are any functional differences between the AC Delco part and the repro part? I was going to go with AC Delco because I am tired of replacing them (this is my second original). Does anyone know if there are any additional parts to that assembly that I will need or should order? I replaced the current switch a few years ago and cant really remember what I did. Thanks, JB

[Chevelle-list] radio ID chart
A guy just contacted me saying that his dad passed away and left a collection of a few hundred 50s 60s car radios. He wants to sell them but needs an ID chart to see what fits what. I have an Olds radio chart and would like to know if anybody has radio ID charts for the other GM makes and/or Ford. Thanks, John Nasta
