Title: Message I understand what he means by 'triple black' meaning the body color, interior color, and vinyl roof color. But it says 'triple black option' leading one to believe it's a factory paint since paint color was optional like anything else. All I'm asking is what is the paint code for black in 1972 and was this a factory 'option'? None of the GM documentation I've seen shows black as an available paint color for 1972. If it was a late model year option, I'm just curious as to what the code is and have a shot of the trim tag, protect-o-plate, or a build sheet to document it. Re: [Chevelle-list] temperature sensor..
Hi: You are better off having the temp. sensor in one of the heads. The reason is you want the electric fan to come on when the temp. in the engine reaches a certain temp. The temp. in the radiator is always going to be lower than what is in the block to keep the engine cool. And your concern is the temperature of the block not the radiator. My two cents. Mike

Title: Message When I did this years ago, I got a full setup from a donor car, with the spindles, rotors, and calipers from a '79 F-Body and the master cylinder (Booster since this was a power conversion), and proportioning valve from (I think) a '72 Malibu. The weight distribution of the newer Malibu is not the same as the '67, so the proportioning is not perfect. The rears do lock before the front, but not all that early. In a perfect world, you will want an adjustable valve to dial in your car. In reality, you can drive the car and be just fine with a junk yard valve. Note: It has been something like 10 years since I had the car in snow with this, but I don't really remember any undue rear lockup with the setup as is. I bought an adjustable valve to dial the car in, but still have not installed it... RE: [Chevelle-list] temperature sensor..
Title: Message Don't know if anyone else has answered, but here's my 0.02. Putting a sensor in the radiator could cause the fins to spread and break over time. Air rushing in and, if it's in front of the fan itself, it could give inaccurate readings. If the fan is mounted on the engine side of the radiator, it'll suck the air through (puller style); if mounted on the grille side, it'll push air through (pusher style). Pusher styles are, by accounts read, about 75% to 80% as efficient as a puller...you lose cooling capability with a pusher. If the sensor is in the radiator and it's in front of the fan itself (pusher or puller), the sensor may actually be cooler due to the constant 'breeze' caused by the fan. Depending on the engine you have, your heads may or may not have provisions for a water temp sender. You may only have an outlet on the intake; if that's the case you'll have to come up with another location for the fan off/on sensor. If the mfg suggests in the head, the sensor should be threaded and wouldn't fit in the radiator anyway. Since water exits the engine via the thermostat, that should be the hottest point of water but the water temp at the head sensor shouldn't be significantly cooler. Check http://auto.howstuffworks.com/cooling-system2.htm to see a motion example of water flow through an engine. Dale McIntosh TC Gold #92/ACES #1709/NECOA #41 67SS/67 Elky Dale?s Place ? The hoses are all the same for disc brake cars. Just FYI, you did not need to change that valve that is mounted on the frame, you only needed to add the one up by the master cylinder. Just out of curiosity, why did you have to take the hood off to put the booster on? Tom

Anybody interested in a good deal on a dash pad? I have a 67 dash pad here in black that has been in stock for a while. I would be willing to make a good deal on it to see it go. I also need to do a buy-in w/ the manufacturer of these dash pads, so I'd being willing to make deals in general to help defray the cost of opening the account. These are the same ones that I have been buying through a middleman for the past couple of years. They are vinyl over foam w/ a metal backing, not that rubber junk you may have seen elsewhere. I did buy the hard line kit from OPG however. I needed the short line that runs from the proportioning valve to the driver's side front wheel. For the 1970 car, the existing one for the drum will not work. I think it was because of diameter. I also used the two lines from the proportioning valve to the master cylinder, which you will not have to do. Gary I did mine in a weekend. It was not a relaxing, or fun project, but by sundown on Sunday I had power front disc brakes!

Re: [Chevelle-list] temperature sensor..
Dan the sensor needs to detect the motor temp to function properly, reading the radiator temp will make it run hotter than it should. Howdy.. I'm putting an electric fan on my car this year, and bought a temp. sensor to control the on/off cycle of the fan. The switch is supposed to be installed in one of the heads.. Wouldn't it be better to install the sensor in the radiator? after all, the fan is blowing on the radiator, not the engine.. The switch is set at 192° on/ 182° off. I have a 180° thermostat. Any input is appreciated. Thanks. Dan McIntoshPavement Scraping 1964 Impala SShttp://www.lowriderimpala.com
