Re: [Chevelle-list] Cowl Induction
The thing that makes it work is the turbulance at the bottom of the windshield. In that area, the air is in a tumbling motion which forces the cool air between the hood and the windshield where the duct work begins. Regardless of the air flow, it still works better for getting in cool air as opposed to having an open element setup or a stock snorkel air cleaner that pulls in all that hot air from the engine compartment. Tom
[Chevelle-list] Cowl Induction
I got the latest issue of Chevelle World with the article about installing a cowl induction setup through a hole in the firewall (Rudisill's cowl plenum system). I also noticed that John Bedenbender's 66 Elky http://www.midwestchevelles.com/past_shows/mw2002/66elky.htm had a similar cowl plenum arrangement through the firewall (pretty cool). Some articles about cowl induction on the web said that the cowl induction intake should be 1" or more above the hood line since air flow at the hood line was low. If this is the case, could there be an air flow problem with intake through the firewall, which I assume gets its air through the cowl grate which is below the hood level? RE: [Chevelle-list] Engine Work
As mentioned, $500 - $1000 isn't out of line for cleaning, valve work, etc. plus parts. I wouldn't purchase ANY parts until the cleaning and such has been done. That'll let you know things like the bearing sizes, or if it needs a new crank kit, bore size and if it needs an overbore, etc. I had my 396 rebuilt/freshed up a couple of years ago and it cost about $2400 and that included R&R'ing the engine (granted, a good chunk of the cost) and an additional .020 overbore and pistons along with a 3-angle valve job. In addition, they had to have a guy from a race shop come to their shop (same town) to tune the injection for the new parts I'd had installed. Re: [Chevelle-list] Engine Work
Your location will have some effect on the price you pay. It's good that you're starting early; not only do you have time to call around to various shops (highly encouraged) but if there's a serious parts store where you live think about hanging around on a Saturday morning and asking questions. Also, there may be a list member or 2 able to make recommendations in your area. Good luck! Brad O.

RE: [Chevelle-list] Engine Work
Machine work alone might be in the $500-$1,000 range, depending on what needs to be done (did one last summer that had over $2,000 in machine work). It’s easy to drop $500 in a set of heads just doing a simple rebuild. Ron -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]On Behalf Of Gary W. RE: [Chevelle-list] Visit to AZ
Holy [EMAIL PROTECTED], someone is actually going to Sierra Vista AZ? Either you are visiting the military base (Fort Huachuca - don't ask me how to pronounce it - something like "wa choo ka") or you are a birdwatcher? My mother-in-law moved there a couple of years ago which is the only reason I have ever heard of the place. My wife and I really wonder why she moved so far away from "civilization" considering she is getting up there in years. We've been out there twice and did not really explore too much. The city is going through some growth as there were some malls and restaurants going up. It is mostly a military town with out too much excitement. There might be a race track nearby, and those military types often do like their cars (or 4x4 trucks), so you might be able to find something. I remember one junkyard, though... Kartchner Caverns is supposed to be really cool. My daughter is still too young so we have not done it yet, but it sounds cool: http://www.pr.state.az.us/Parks/parkhtml/kartchner.html There are some ghost towns in the area, and Tombstone is not too far off either, although I was not all that impressed by it. Whoops--forgot to turn the snipper off. To unsubscribe from this service you must first purchase a Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit. The unit can be obtained from most hardware stores and dental clinics. Be sure to obtain the proper permits to operate the unit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Food and Drug Administration in Washington D.C. USA. Be sure to carefully unpack the kit and place each component in its accompanying mesh safety bag. Mount the Pershing DF4 mesinator on top of the perforated Gerring Mach 77 refibulator and attach them using the eight-millimeter torque fork. Be sure that the refibulator is mounted at a 66 degree angle and properly dispersed so that it is flush with the curved section of the Pyrex thistle tube. Place the four sections of the triangular separation gear into the posture cylinder and lock them into place using the band aid adhesive strip. Insert the wiggling pin into the wobbling hole, making sure that it seated correctly. Place the D cell battery and the eleven 9 volt batteries in the power chamber. The device should be calibrated before operation using the optional digital corkscrew accessory pack prior to operation. Insert the digital corkscrew through the electronic combustion service chamber using caution not to touch the reinforced tungsten igniter control module and quickly turn the inverter drive to 28.6 degrees. Turn the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit upside down and hit the bottom plate with a 48-ounce ball-peen hammer while shaking the unit vigorously. Force open the door to the incineration valve compartment and set the pressure gauge to 719 psi. Close the door and seal it shut with duct tape. The unit should now be properly calibrated and ready to use. Before activating the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit, you must first elevate it to a height of 229 feet above sea level to insure that the unit receives the proper oxygen level and barometric pressure. Point the aerial to 17 degrees north by northeast to within the parameters of the Telstar GS-2 weather satellite and apply pressure to the wing shaft on the southern most section of the modular accelerator. Using the special ratchet adapter supplied with the unit, rotate the heater core to the "on" position. The "on" position has been obtained when the green light begins to flash, signifying that the red light is about to go off. Once the red light is off, flip the toggle switch labeled "ON/OFF" to the "ON" position and count to 47 before logging on to the system. Logon using your username and password and wait for the prompt. Once prompted you must check the box with the appropriate action you wish to take and then press the pressure release button and turn off the compressor while turning the hand crank at 231 meters per minute. Next, press control, alt, delete, caps lock, shift, number lock, escape and tab simultaneously. Press enter. You will have one second to complete the procedure. If you fail to respond in the time limit allowed, simply purchase a new Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit and start from the beginning.
