  Dan,

  Just a question for
ya, when you “finally” get it up to highway speed, and then you get on it,
does it go pretty quick???  I’m
  guessing it does.  I have a 350
  that was backed by a 2speed powerglide….  I changed to a TH350, and MAN what a
difference.  I have a first gear
that in the neighborhood of 2.5 where as the powerglide is about 1.75.  I can now “Throw Smoke” when ever I
feel like it, from a dead stop or rolling.  I’d bet that with the tranny swap you’d get all the power you’d need (not want J).  I hope this helps.  And of course I could be totally
wrong, and if that’s the case.
The list will surely let you know.

Check the timing curve on the dist.  Lighter
springs might wake up the engine depending on what advance you have at what
rpm.  It made a world of difference on my circletrack 350 in my almost
stock engine.  My $.02

A 200R4 trans would give the car quite a
boost, along with better fuel economy. That car is heavy and needs more
gearing.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Heater vent thermostat source?

2004-06-27 Thread Robert Shaffer
I was replacing the heater core on my 66 this weekend. The heater
thermostat that sits in the heater box is mounted on a piece of
cardboard-like material. When removing the heater box this cardboard
disintegrated. Is there any place to buy a replacement thermostat? Has
anyone else run into this problem before? Thanks.

RE: [Chevelle-list] CARS Inc

2004-06-27 Thread John Nasta

Hi Jim,

The
general rule on truck deliveries is that you have to be there to receive the order
and inspect it for shipping damage in the presence of the driver. If it is
damaged, it should either go right back on the truck, or at the very least, the
driver should sign off saying that it was damaged prior to delivery. Most
companies won’t take a panel back after the driver leaves, because at that
point it becomes your word against the driver's, and of course the driver is
going to say that it was not his/her fault.

I
didn't order from CARS but did from a California company. They shipped two
quarters to me in one box. One showed up in good shape. The other showed up
with dents and dings, etc. I called them and told them that the one damaged
quarter was damaged before it was shipped and they said, that was unlikely but
ship it back anyway. I was to pay the shipping cost though. Heck, It cost
more to ship the one quarter then the two quarters cost. I still have the
quarter sitting in my garage. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. So. if
you can drive to the place your going to buy it and inspect it before you
purchase it, that is the way to go. After my California experience, I found out
there was a place close to home that sold sheet metal (300 miles away) I
made the trip and got a good quarter. Once again. School of Hard Knocks. :)

Good
Luck.

Anybody ever order parts from C.A.R.S. Inc ? They
are out of Berkley MI near Detroit. Prices are pretty comparable to OPG etc,
but we are close enough to go pick up stuff and avoid expensive shipping and
freight delivery charges. They manufacture both interior and sheet metal parts
  there so all U.S.A. made.

RE: [Chevelle-list] Engine Block Paint

2004-06-27 Thread Mark Weber

I used
the por 15 engine paint, it came in a one pint can or something like that.
If you want to goof around and figure out a way to spray it that would be a good
idea.  I brushed it on and got streaks.  Of course they say it is self
leveling bla bla bla.  It did not work out that well and on the valve
covers I had to wet sand them down and spray them with a spray can.  Now
the color does not match exactly :-(  My oil pan
still sucks but it is on the car and will be what it is until the engine comes
out for something.
I have standardized on a
manufacture and color and written it down.  As I paint or replace
things I use that brand now.
I too love the por 15 product for
sealing and priming for sealing (not for sanding.  My process now is
to por15 stuff then spray the part with spray can engine paint like the can
says.  This combo makes a very durable finished product in my
experience.  Just spray can paint on raw metal is good for 1-3
years.
The Por 15 engine paints claim
is "high solids" so there is more paint in the can and less thinner, so you get
a thicker coat of paint.  My theory is to give the part a few extra
coats of spray can paint then to build up the solids.  Works for me
anyway...

I've never used it, but I love everything else
POR makes.  This is what I plan on using when it comes time
  (soon).

I decided to go with metal, much better and sturdier fit, the plastic ones
are very hard to fit properly.
Just my 2 cents.
