looking at the OPG catalogue and it lists both the small and big block shroud

Just FYI,
the 68 fan shroud is a year specific item. It has 3 bolt holes to hold it to
the radiator top plate instead of 2 like the 69-72's. As long as you have the
same top plate, get the shroud for the engine in the car, not what radiator is
in it. Big blocks are 2 inches longer than a small block which brings the fan
closer to the radiator. If you put a big block shroud on a small block car, the
fan will not sit in the shroud where it needs to be making it ineffective.

You should be able to simply tape up the
existing wire to the “R” terminal to the coil.  This was used to
supply low voltage to a point-type distributor.

Sounds like you bought a harness for points ignition.
If you have HEI, you can ignore the second wire, but if you do have points, you
may need to go back to the old-fashioned style starter. The ones with three
posts are getting harder and harder to find. I have one here freshly rebuilt
but it belongs to my '70.

I think I have two sets also.  Not sure of the
condition but are original I think.  I am in 20602 zip code if that is any
closer.

I have several sets... yours for the price of shipping.  You may
want to check out local resources, however, as the weight could make the
shipping cost prohibitive. If I recall correctly, the rear drums are 2" wide x
9.5" diameter with a 4.75" bolt circle, and almost any GM intermediate up
through the late 80's used the same spec.  So finding drums that
interchange should be no problem, unless you're after the "correct" ones for
your application.  In fact, I believe there are even some Buick G-body
applications that used aluminum drums (w/iron liner) that will yield a slight
unsprung weight savings, and you might be able to luck up on in a salvage yard.
If you want to check shipping on the drums, estimated weight is 25lbs for
the pair; I'm in zip code 37172.Chuckon 5/2/06 9:17 PM,

The latest issue of CW has been in the mail now for about three weeks, John.  And we've been getting registrations every day.  Perhaps the effects of the hurricane have slowed down mail service in Louisiana, because I've received the same comment from others living in LA, too.  Rooms should be no problem, as there are plenty of other hotels within 10-15 minutes of the event, in case all the rooms are taken at the hotels at exit 97.  If you don't wanna wait 'til you get your magazine, you can go here to print a copy of the registration form:  http://www.chevelles.net/mcc/cb06.htm    MUST BE AN ACES MEMBER TO REGISTER!

Hope to see you and your Chevelle at CB'06, John!

Les,

I have a room reserved at the Comfort Suites in Goodlettsville, TN that I won't be using because we'll have just moved into our new house in Hurricane WV and won't be able to attend!   With that said, call them, they still have a few rooms available, especially after I cancel my reservation.

The first time we went to CB we stayed at this hotel.  It was nice, clean, close to the park, and decent price.

We are heading up for CB06 in June and are looking for motel room. Does anyone know anything about the Red Roof thats called North Nashville? Guy there said it's 5 min from park but watching list it seems most folks are staying elsewhere. Does anyone know if this is a decent motel or have other suggestions? Thanks, Les. Thanks John. I'll have to see if my 72 chassis
still has the two rear drums on it. That would solve me problem.

Larry the front drums are for 2 1/2" brake
shoes.  The rears are for 2" brake shoes.  Probably not safe to use
on rear with the 2" shoes.  Don't think the front shoes will fit rear due
to setup for emergency brake.  If I remember correctly the brake drums
are the same on all Chevelles with drum brakes through 72.  Although I
doubt but a few 72's had drum brakes.

Ok... all of this makes sense.  Does anyone
know what the difference is for the 68 w/AC and the heavy duty radiator?
Do you think the regular 68 small block shroud would work?  Thanks for the
help so far!

  Just FYI, the 68 fan
shroud is a year specific item. It has 3 bolt holes to hold it to the
radiator top plate instead of 2 like the 69-72's. As long as you have
the same top plate, get the shroud for the engine in the car, not what
radiator is in it. Big blocks are 2 inches longer than a small block
which brings the fan closer to the radiator. If you put a big block
shroud on a small block car, the fan will not sit in the shroud where
it needs to be making it ineffective.Tom
