[Chevelle-list] Exhaust

2006-05-12 Thread mark fellman
I have a 71 SS Convertible with a 90's 350 motor. I want to upgrade
the exhaust from the motor to the tips. I'd like it to sound more
old school and I don't want it to sound like a new Mustang if you
know what I mean. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

I have 3 stainless Magnaflow's on my 72, and its great, and
has a nice throaty sound! Texas Quality

Nothing can make it sound like that,
Mustangs have their own distinctive sound. Check out Pypes or
Magnaflow. They have some nice systems.

Hi Steve,

A friend of mine has a '70 454 El Camino with an Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap
and Holley carb under his stock cowl hood. To my knowledge, he didn't
have to modify anything. I have pictures of his engine I can send you

Does anybody out there have a 70-72 that is using the Cowl Induction air
cleaner with an aftermarket intake? If so, did you have to make any
mods to make it fit? What Carb / intake are you using? I've been told
that a Holley is shorter than the AFB style carb. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Re: [Chevelle-list] LOW OIL PRESSURE/solved?

2006-05-12 Thread wbainey
I swapped the pan on my 70 in-car. I will admit the best way is to
remove the engine to ensure no leaks but I was success full. I also
changed the pump/pickup at that time since the pan was 1 deeper. I'm
pretty sure I removed the HEI dizzy for extra clearance.
Good Luck JC. Just be careful whichever route you take.

You can probably get the pan off without pulling the motor unless
 the
bell housing hits the body. Take the bolts out of the mounts,
 remove
the fan shroud, drain the radiator take off the hoses and
 anything
else that might get bound up or stretched. Jack up the front of
 the
motor at the balancer, wedge some 2 x 4 blocks between the mounts

that'll give you the room you need to pull the pan. If it doesn't
work you have to pull the motor anyway, you haven't lost
 anything
since all that will have to be done anyway.

thanks guys for the reply. I drained the oil , fished around the

pan through the drain plug hole with a coat hanger and felt the
 oil
pick-up laying (loosely)in the bottom of the pan. I'm guessing
 the
best way to deal with it ,would be to yank the motor , put it
 back
on the engine stand re-install the pick-up and try and get it
 welded
in there. I'd like to hear what you guys think. thanks, Jimmy C.

You must be referring to the new Mustang Burnout comercial...sounds
good but I wondered...is that really the sound...or is it modded. I
haven't heard one on the street sound like that.
Plenty of decent exhausts out there. 3 would be overkill but
would give you room to grow. I've always liked the flowmaster sound
but couldn't pass on the deal I got on a 3 Borla w 2.75 tailpipes.

In the '50s, '60s and '70s glasspacks and turbos were popular. Long

Clean tighten all connections. Positive battery connections at battery solenoid, ground connections at battery, block, frame, and any other ground connections a 66 may have. Clean means remove the connection, wire brush both mating surfaces and reinstall. Might also try a different battery even if the installed one checks fine.

Last
night I was ready to install my BB finally into my 69 Chevelle, come to find
out that the bellhousing does not fit (TOO SMALL) I had this bellhousing off my
350 which fit with the old flywheel which is about 12 inches in radius.

I
installed a new and correctflywheel 14 inches in radius. I was told
that I need a 621 bellhousing, is this correct. If so does anyone on the list
have one for sale?
