[Chevelle-list] Sound dampening?
Hi! Im trying to get my -71 ready for the season. Ive just bought material to reduce the noise level in my -71. Where how much bitumen pads should I use to get as Weight/cost/noise efficient as possible? I read somewhere that its enough to cover 25% of the surface if I put em at the right spot? Im also planning to add a pair of glass packs to the exhaust sys to get a deep smooth voice out of my 402BB. Any ideas, blueprints, rants or feedback is welcome! Best Regards Pelle Chevelle

[Chevelle-list] Nascar Chevelle?
Hi! Has there ever been a NASCAR Chevelle? For how long have the NASCAR races been going on? Do you have any links to race inspired Chevelles (Preferably -71 Chevelles) As far as I know there have never been any Chevelles participating in NASCAR? Any way Im planning to build a race inspired Chevelle but I want to get it as right as possible with stickers from the right years and so on. Anyone want to help? Best regards Pelle Chevelle

Pelle, While researching some stuff for my '69 Charger , I saw what looked like a '68 or '69 Chevelle racing with Chargers and some random Fords. Re: [Chevelle-list] Nascar Chevelle?
First remember that NASCAR is a sanctioning body much like NHRA/IHRA/CART/etc. and is not limited to the championship series you see on TV. But, on the national level, Smokey Yunick had several years of Chevelles, 66-68 before he gave them up due to, what he termed, being over scrutinized by NASCAR tech officials. Probably were some others campaigning them as well. I think the early to mid 70s (73-75) saw Chevelles being campaigned by the likes of Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, A.J. Foyt, Curtis Turner and Benny Parsons before the Monte Carlo/Lumina/Monte Carlo became the body(s) of choice. NASCAR was officially formed in 1949. Re: [Chevelle-list] Nascar Chevelle?
I read it was the 68 he drove home without the fuel cell. According to Hot Rod Magazine, Smokey's ongoing troubles with NASCAR over his getting competitive reached its zenith in 1968. Yunick blamed both Ford and Chrysler for putting so much pressure on France that he had his tech inspectors overscrutinize his super- slippery Chevelles. Legend has it that when Smokey's '68 Chevelle picked up its sixteenth violation, he got in the car and drove it back to his garage in Daytona with the fuel tank still sitting in the inspection area. His parting shot was, make it 17. Two years later, Smokey said adios to NASCAR and was out of stock car racing. [Chevelle-list] Front valance for 68 Chevelle
I'm getting down to the details on the restoration of the '68 El Camino now. A long time ago, I painted the lower section of the car (below the chrome line) black. Prior to this, the car only had it's stock paint job on it. The valance that sits on the bottom of the grill, and just under the front bumper iss painted black. I was thinking that years ago, I must have painted that black, and it was originally body color. Upon further inspection, it appears that it may have originally been black. I can't find any body color under the black on it. Can anyone confirm that these were (flat black?) black on 68 Chevelles and El Camino's from the factory? I was all set to paint it body color, but now I'm thinking that this would be incorrect. Thanks for the help. Kevin Riel
Re: [Chevelle-list] Nascar Chevelle?
I got this quote about the Chevelle ran by Smokey http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_Yunick As with most successful racers, Yunick was a master of the gray area straddling the rules. Perhaps his most famous exploit was his #13 1967 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967 Chevrolet Chevelle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Chevelle, driven by Curtis Turner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Turner. The car was so much faster than the competition during testing that they were certain that cheating was involved; some sort of aerodynamic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerodynamic enhancement was strongly suspected, but the car's profile seemed to be entirely stock, as the rules required. It was eventually discovered that what Yunick had built was an exact 7/8 scale replica of the production car. Since then, NASCAR has required roofs, hoods, and trunks of cars to fit actual templates with the exact profile cut out of them. Larry Williams Pelle Andersson wrote: Hi! [Chevelle-list] Oil filter SBC part II
Hi again Thanks a lot to all of you answering my question. I guess the one who rebuild the motor for me forgot to put this piece back. However, this might qualify for the stupidest question of the month. Re: [Chevelle-list] What Motor Mounts for this Swap?
Like most rumor's, it's false. Remember there are FRAME mounts and ENGINE mounts. The 307 didn't appear until 1968 and 6-cyl frame mounts have no more in common with the 307 mounts than they do any others. You'll have to change your frame mounts for a V8 anyway. A quick parts search online shows the 305 taking a different engine mount than a 67 small block - may just be a style difference, can't say. I'd first get the correct frame mounts then ask the parts guy for engine mounts for the 305 and see if they fit the frame mounts.
