[Chevelle-list] DISC BRAKE CONVERSION
i was in process of doing a disc swap and had a couple questions: 1. the brake hoses for the calipers seem to have a diffrent braket that hold them to the frame, where can i get the correct ones?(where the hoses hook to the hard lines) 2. the car does not have power brakes, is it worth it to add the power brake booster? 3. if i add power brakes will i need to change the pedal assy? 4. the car has a block where the lines all go to,(towards the front of the car) do i keep this same block or do i need a diffrent one? is this block call a porportioning valve? or is that something else i need to add?? thanks!! the car is a 68 Harlan ** Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Re: [Chevelle-list] DISC BRAKE CONVERSION
1. They are different. Use 1969 Camaro Disc Brake hoses. This will eliminate the need to search for Chevelle disc brake hose brackets 2. Yes 3. No 4. THis is not the proportioning valve, it is called a distribution block. On a 1968 model, the proportioning valve is separate and mounted directly under the master cylinder via a small bracket that bolts to the outer master cylinder mounting bolt. Are you sure that its not coming from a leak at the junction of the dipstick tube tranny case? There is an o-ring on the tube that is suppose to seal it. Re: [Chevelle-list] Oil Pan Leak
The triangular pad is brazed on by the manufacturer. If it is actually leaking between the pad and the pan then you are going to need to pull and replace. Sometimes the dipstick can leak if improperly installed or if it has a bad o-ring. Make sure that isn't your problem first.Godspeed, Dan SolomonIt is a mistake to allow any mechanical object to realize you are in a hurry.http://www.freewebs.com/chevelles1970/ To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Sat, 9 Aug 2008 21:23:45 -0400From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [Chevelle-list] Oil Pan LeakNeed some helpI have an oil leak from the oil pan on my 454 '70SS. Looks like Tom covered all your questions. I would also advise changing you drum brake master to a disc brake master as the reservoirs are larger on the disc brake master. You'll also need to get a propvalve. Re: [Chevelle-list] Are your tires safe?
Boys and girls, Speaking from the industrial side of things, rubber has a shelf life of 5 years, period. Why? Because it is too costly to shut down processes to replace premutarely failed product. When it comes to suppling a customer with a gasket, O-ring, diaphragm, expansion joints, etc., we take a strong look at when product is produced. Many gasket sheets, for instance will have a stamp like 3Q05; meaning it was manufactured in the third quarter of 2005. Another important consideration is how long has it sat on a distributors shelf before being sold. Of course, there are other factors to be considered such as environment, packaging, how it was stored, etc. but these don't come into play with tires. How can I say this with out sounding ugly; Dan Z. from the Rubber Manufacturers Assoc. is a liar! He seals his fate when he states ...without any scientific information to back it up. Bull Sh!t. He knows good and damn well, if he can read, that there is a shelf life associated with rubber. If he is not informed, why is he the spokesperson for this organization? Just someone else out there trying to cover up and protect, in my humble, but informed, opinion. [Chevelle-list] BOP vs Chevelle rearend
My step-father has a 71 LeMans Sport convertible and he's pretty sure something broke inside the rearend today.? He's was driving along @ 35 mph and?he said something went bang and the back end?jumped up?and it locked up the rear tires.? It wouldn't move forward under it own power so I had to tow him home.? Now it is leaking gear oil - we haven't got it up on his lift yet to find out where it's coming from.? I have a couple of questions: 1)?? Will a 68-72 Chevelle 10 or 12 bolt in or are there differences in the brackets?? I know there are some ? physical differences in the center section and the shape of the diff inspection?cover.? 2)?? His BOP 10 bolt is a posi - will the posi unit fit in a Chevelle 10 bolt?? I may give him my 10 bolt and find a 12 bolt for my 70 Chevelle. 3)?? If the Chevelle rearend is a direct bolt-in is there any benefit over a BOP?? Or should we just rebuild what he ? has?? Never rebuilt one yet, but we have pretty much everything we need tool-wise, plus he's a 30-year? ? machine repair-man. 4)?? Any other ideas/suggestions I might not have thought of...?
