Re: [Chevelle-list] Should I sell or should I wait?
I also can not tell you much about E-bay as i honestly never had the BALLS to drop my money on anything sight unseen.. BUT: In my way of thinking...(not normal to be sure)... I would be selling a TOY...such as a Chevelle only for a couple of reasons... 1. I really needed the money...or I had a damn good use for the money...l 2. I no longer got enough seat time in the car to REALLY enjoy it... 3. I was offered a lot more money for the car then I though it was worth TO ME... this has absolutely nothing to do with the cars actually worth...I value a car for the smiles per mile it gives me.see number 2 above That said I did sell my very highly modified 68 SS396 Chevelle in April a few weeks after Spring Carlisle .. My reasons were simple... I was offered much more money for it then it was worth TO ME...and it was a lot less then 28K... Mine was barely street-able ... I used it maybe 8-10 times at the strip last summer and I was fighting age (I am in my 60's) and my reaction times were becoming embarrassing...I was just not enjoying trying to beat my own reaction times rather then turning better ET's... As far as Chevelles appreciating at 5 to 10 percent a year I honestly do not know...I never noticed much of a increase until this year..and it was not only Chevelles that shot up thru the roof...ask some of the long time Mopar boys... And will it continue?...Heck nobody knows... I will tell you I still have 64,72,76,79 & 95 Corvettes in the garage but I miss the Chevelle...and have been looking for The right El Camino to replace it with...one that is almost a turn key vehicle ..and is completely street-able...hell I may even buy one with an automatic Tranny I just want to drive it ... Lots of luck... Bob G. = From time to time I wonder what a highly modified Chevelle (stock appearance outside) SS Convertible is worth. I know they are accrueing at $1500.-$2,000. dollars a year. It's a '68 Chevelle SS Convertible: Sea Frost Green (silver green) origional color, was painted a couple years ago cheap, showing, wear but still looks pretty good and get a lot of compliments. Has all new repop trim and fresh stock appearing 1" black stripe around body as they came with from factory. 4 speed M-20 (origional 3 speed man. I have for it) Origional engine (Now Edelbrock Aluminum heads), I have the origional 325 iron heads, origionally buckets, now headrested recovered buckets correct for year. Tilt column correct with correct wood grain wheel, disc brakes, custom with '92 1LE Z-28 Camaro Disks, aluminum radiator. No a.c, manual top., no console, 15"rallye rims, origional NOS caps and 14" wheels available. Have origioal AM radio, now with satellite radio Alpine, and 360 watt and four integrated speakers, concealed. 4-link F-41 NOT origional, and aftermarket, Hotchkis, KYB Shocks. Closed rear end. (open = stock), Eaton. 670 Avenger Holley w/ auto choke. Top is new 5 year, not origional but the best available, "black"a couple months old, and black interior, less than two years old. Deluxe seatbelts. Runs very well, just keep filling with gas! Is asking 28K out of line? Or start bid at 20K in e-Bay? A lot of people tell me that e-Bay! is not a good place to list. Feelings? Any ideas? Those are my questions: E-Bay any good? Should I ask so much? Should I sell at all? Pics avaiulable to interested persons. Car really moves, and handles, Lowered one inch (Hotchkis), engine recently rebuilt just broke in (1500 miles). Turn key car. Drive anywhere. [Chevelle-list] Prices at Carlisle for Chevelles
Anyone go to Carlisle? Reason I asked is that I went up both Thursday and Friday looking for parts yada yada pretty cold on Thursday so my first purchase was 5 sweat shirts at a dollar each... heck rags are that expensive... BUT the asking prices in the Car Coral were not in the bargain basement range. I noticed that the asking prices on Thursday for Chevelles were in the low 30's for BB cars and high 20's for SB cars... Friday most of them were already sold... so the selling prices had to be somewhat near that range... Hell a 68 Shelby Mustang had an asking price of $95,000 ... Anyone notice the prices ? . Honestly if there is a clear cut and dry right and wrong way to store a car I would have to believe the boys in Canada would have the "right" answers... I have been storing my" toys" for almost 40 years now...and since I have never had any problems (except I am now anal about mice ).. I'll continue to just change the oil the day I close the garage doors , hook up a float charger to the battery, may or may not cover the cars depending if I have some "winter" work to do yada yada...then in the spring I start them up drive in to the gas station and fill the tanks drive home change the oil and enjoy my summer... Whatever gas is in the tank this time of year is what will stay in the tank all winter...(But to be truthful I almost always fill the tank after each use...so the gas tanks are almost always full... I have always gone with the latter and have not had any problems as a result. I agree that it's a good idea to start it about once a month if you can. Just buy 50 cents worth of gas, prime the carb with a little and put the rest in the tank. That way the gas in the tank never gets really old.
Re: [Chevelle-list] electrical diagnostics in Phx area
Thanks for the reply. As I said in my message, I know how to diagnose the problem, my problem is that I'm too arthritic to do it myself. Five years ago I would never have written what I did. I simply would have done it. Those days are gone forever. I wasn't looking for a how-to. I was looking for a reliable shop in the Phoenix area that can do it for me. -As a 61 year old and spending a lot of those years laying on cold concrete under cars I honestly can understand... Have no clue as to how bad I would be if I had not invested in a lift years ago HOWEVER Chevy also has a lighter weight solenoid spring ( ACDelco part number 1958679) that retails for about 5 bucksand any shop... or full service station ...or the kid next door ..should be able to swap out the stock spring from the solenoid. in about 15 minutes... I have had at least 90 percent "Cures" from heat soak problems just by replacing the spring...and I can not think of any of my friends who have not had complete cures doing the same... The replacement spring is just able to compress, thus engage the starter, under hot situations as it does not require nearly the electric energy as the stock spring... Quick, easy, and cheap... and like I said almost always works..and the "fix" is FOREVER... I now keep a apare spring in the garage all the time & I keep the part number right next to my computer since I am always giving it out... Then I purchased a 4 post lift mainly to use as a storage lift and the 2 post was gone within a year ! and was replaced with another 4 post lift I am now 60 and honestly getting down on my hands and knees to adjust the swing arms to fit the cars frame on the 2 post lift became o a chore I was avoiding at all costs...because my knees just could not take it ... and driving right on a 4 post lift was so easy A few years later however I did have to purchase a "low level" lift that only raises the car up maybe 40 inches because I learned that doing brake work on a 4 post lift is a major pain...and so is rotating tires the low raise lift still requires me to get down on my hands and knees BUT ONLY for doing brake work or rotating tires...so maybe I will have to do this 2 maybe 3 times a year... I can do almost everything else using a 4 post lift .. transmission removal/installation , shocks, exhaust, oil changes, you name it...a 4 post lift works fine..(sometimes I will admit I would like to be able to stand 6 inches to my left or right but can not because of the 4 posters ramps BUT not that often and the abilit to just drive on the lift plus use it to double stack parked cars is just way more important to me the the 5 minutes that I have to stand 6 inches from my "ideal" location because of the ramps... 2 Post lifts sell for less.. and are lets face it perfect for doing everything under a car, BOTH are pluses.. some jobs are a compromise using 4 post lifts and some (brakes and tire rotations) are too time consuming to do using a 4 post lift... So I dropped another $1,200 and got a low rise lift for just those 2 jobs... 2 post about 2K 4 post about 3K (very rough figures) ..BUT installing a 4 post lift means just dragging it into the garage and hooking up the hydraulics and electric..no concrete work.. so for a retrofit installation the prices are about equal..for a new garage the 2 post is cheaper... I also NEVER used the 2 post lift to just plain clean and polish a car...man I do that all the time now with the 4 post lift...no more bending down to wax the rocker panels and cleaning wheels is darn easy when they are right in your face when you are standing up and have a cold beer sitting behind the tire on the ramp of the lift... Before I retired I can still remember driving home from work and thinking this baby is due for an oil change, so I pulled into the garage and did the oil change ... still dressed with a shirt and tie ... Often in fine print or obscure "note" areas in the Assembly Manuals you can find "markings" listed. The markings made assembly for the line workers much easier when grabbing for parts for a particular car. I'm not sure I agree with that. NOT what I was supposed to install. Sad fact of life BUT the general feeling "on the line" was ..just bolt it on... as fast as you can..and if it fits its right... BUT if you have 2 seconds left after you installed a part you may have put on the wrong part... ! BUT then again who cares.and this was on GOOD days...
