Thanks from me, too. I just got off the phone with Chevrolet and they
said I should have it in a couple of weeks. They did not ask me for my
VIN.

I have a 69 Malibu and will call them tomorrow. I was wondering
if these resto kits are available for only Chevelles. I have a good
friend that is heavily into Corvairs and if available I know he would

I'll try the 800 number on Monday and see if I get the same referral. If

These 'GM Restoration Kits' are FREE from GM and contain photocopied
pages various specs, options, colors, color combinations, Power
Teams,
height, weight, etc. The contents vary depending on the year. The
last 'kit' I got was about 6 months ago but the phone number should
still be good. Call the Customer Assistance hotline at 800-222-1020.
Have your VIN handy as they more often than not ask for it to ensure
you get the right information kit. I'm sure they have kits for other
divisions than just Chevrolet but I've never asked.

So far I've gotten kits for 1965 through 1972 Chevelles (I head 64
is
not available but haven't tried) and even a separate one for my 67
El
Camino plus one for a 1974 Corvette I had. I would guess the El
Caminos are separate as the other year's kits didn't have much on
them. On a whim I called them with my Elky VIN and got a separate
one. Not much, but El Camino specific.

As far as I know (and I don't see how they would), they don't check
to
see if you really own the car you're supplying the VIN for - just
don't
get greedy all at once and ask for 10 kits. I think it's more a
check
for a valid VIN so you get the correct year/series information.

remarkable! Pay close attention to landing gear retraction and

Otherwise it's kinda like only going the first 999 miles of a 1000 mile

more mile in an already expensive trip. And it's one less thing you won't
have to worry about.

[Chevelle-List] sanding/priming

Hi guys, I want to sand and prime my 69 Chevelles body, but this is my
first time attempting anything like this and I could use a little
direction. I have a Black Decker
Sandstorm will this get the job done?
What grit sandpaper should I use?
Should the body be sanded down all the way to the sheet metal, or just
until it is smooth and free of any surface rust? If anyone could please shed some light on these questions by
way of a website or your own experience, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

[Chevelle-List] '69 Malibu

2003-02-04 Thread Don Allen

Hi guys, a friend of mine has a chance to buy a 69 Malibu that has been
sitting in a field for the last 10 years.
The car is complete and original with a 6 cyl. and a 3 speed trans. The body is covered with surface rust
and it will need a new trunk floor, flooring under the back seat, windshield,
at least 1 new fender (maybe two) and a new full quarter on the pass.
side. The seller is throwing in 69
bucket seats, rally wheels, a 4 spd. trans. and a 1969 396 big block all
machined and ready to assemble.
The car does actually run (rough) and he has driven it. The owner is asking $3500.00, it sounds
good to me but I thought I would get 2nd, 3rd and 4th
opinions. Also, should the car be
kept as a numbers matching 6 cyl. and put the 396 into something else, or
should he put the 396 into this Malibu?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Don,

While I am sure there will be some exceptions, and some guys will claim they
have a good one of brand X and it has done great for them, I personally
wouldn't spend hard earned money on something that works so hard if I wasn't
absolutely sure of the quality. I would go with either a Miller, Lincoln, or
Hobart. Nothing else. My welding instructor said to make sure it was american
made. There is some pretty cheap stuff made overseas. A budy of mine had to
trash his Italian made machine because he couldn't get parts to repair it. My
brother-in-law is a welder by trade and teaches welding as well. He recommended
a Lincoln to me. That's what I have.

Miller, Lincoln, or
Hobart. Sometimes there are good reasons to pay a little extra to get quality.
This is one of those times.
