Is this common and factory correct or not ? Should we restore to both steel ? Thanks guys ! Melanie
RE: [Chevelle-list] Gasoline Boycott Day
I was wondering when this thing would make it to this list. It's been hashed over on many lists, but the bottom line is that you're going to buy the same amount of gas regardless, even if it's on the 18th or the 20th, and the gas companies' weekly profit won't even notice a blip. Better yet, get everyone to not use gasoline tomorrow (unlikely) or boycott certain companies. The idea presented below isn't going to do anything but give the original writer a few laughs that something so ineffective got so far. :>) It'll be interesting to watch the gas stations tomorrow. J.D. Stewart72 Chevelle SS Gasoline Stick it to 'em IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED STICK IT TO THEM DAY" AND THE PEOPL E OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY. THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT. WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO? REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. [Chevelle-list] Insurance
Just wanted to give some compliments to a fantastic insurance company. Hagerty Insurance (www.hagerty.com) insured my 72 SS a month ago. The first time I drove the car 4 days later, I had a pheasant fly through the grill, obliterating it. :>( I felt guilty calling in a claim that was a few dollars more than the check I just sent in, but the people I talked to were very friendly and helpful. There's a $0 deductible and they were even going to pay $25/hour to replace the grille. I was just happy to get a new grille (from Ground Up), and put it in myself. I was holding off posting this until everything was done. I got the check yesterday. This is an amazing company in a sector which is full of non-caring insurance companies. The price is right, the terms are better and the customer service is best. J.D. Stewart 72 Chevelle SS http://jstewart.inebraska.com/chevelle.htm

I've been sitting on this for 3 weeks, but now that it's home in my garage I can't wait to tell everyone about my new Chevelle. It's a 72 SS350, with a 402 in it now. Lady-owned for the last 21 years and I'm the 3rd owner. It's flame orange, so it really stands out. It's got some nice options. I've got the build sheet, too. http://jstewart.inebraska.com/chevelle.htm More pictures soon. I just drove it home 8 hours from Denver, and it ran beautifully the whole way. As you can tell, I'm pretty cranked about it. :>) Tomorrow is supposed to be 60 degrees for the 1st time this year, so I just may have to drive it to work. J.D. Stewart Norfolk, NE

OK, speaking of EBay, here's a 72 Chevelle with 3 parts cars, currently going for around $1500. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=6164&item=2450442873 He's about 200 miles from me. Looks like it will take at least 4, if not 5 trips to get everything he has. I was thinking I could get enough parts for my 72 project, have a second car to build, and have enough parts left over to sell (don't need a roll cage, for instance) to help pay the costs. J.D. Stewart Speaking of ebay, did anybody else spot an aqua colored SS advertised as a '66 a couple of weeks ago? The thumbnail did not look quite right, so I opened it up, and lo and behold, it was a '67! I sent an email to the seller advising it was not a '66, but a '67, and got no reply. I never looked at it again to see if the ad got corrected. Not sure I'd buy a Chevelle for a lot of money from somebody who didn't even know what year it was... cYa, and have a great New Year! RE: [Chevelle-list] Mouse Motor
I started taking things apart last night in order to get the engine out. Good thing I decided to go that direction, because when I took off the upper radiator hose, I found more evidence of mice. Yuck! The carb won't need rebuilding because there wasn't one. I have a new Edelbrock 1406 sitting on the shelf, and the Edelbrock manifold came in yesterday. The previous owner sold the stock 2-bbl carb and manifold and just sat an 80s manifold on the engine and laid a blanket over it. Good intentions, but it didn't work. The inside of the engine isn't all gunked up, so this may be an easy rebuild. At least I'll have all sorts of room to detail the engine compartment while it's out. J.D. Stewart LMAO! Darn those pesky rodents. I would rip the motor apart myself and check out the cylinder walls, service as needed, invest in some new rings and gaskets at the very least. Heck you get that far and you might as well just do a mild rebuild IMO. I have never seen people with much luck getting a motor running when it looks like that and has sat for that long. Most likely the carb will need to rebuilt as well as those seals and gaskets are probably pretty poor now. Looks like a nice start to a project there. Keep us posted on the progress. Mikey
[Chevelle-list] Mouse Motor
I started working on the 72 Chevelle project today and got the car back on 4 wheels again with a new ball joint. At least I can roll/tow it now. Next, I was going to see if I could get the engine running. I found that the engine wasn't locked up after sitting for 7 years. When I pulled the intake manifold off (it was just laying there), I found a surprise. I know the 350 is supposed to be a mouse motor, but this was ridiculous! http://jstewart.inebraska.com/chevelle.htm I cleaned and vacuumed out everything I could, but undoubtedly there's stuff that's fallen down into the pan. I might be able to get away with pouring some oil through the engine and a couple of quick oil changes, but it looks like I better pull the engine instead. :>/ J.D. Stewart

Here's another fishy smelling LS6 currently running on EBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2448014241&category=6164 It's in a 72, and has AC. J.D. Stewart Merry Christmas guys !There is a "LS6 Chevelle" listed on ebay thats for sale in Florida. My memory is fading, but didn't GM sell LS6's without any power options (other that the manditory disc brakes) such as air and power steering? Or were there LS6's that came with air. I thought that the air option was only availible on LS5's and down.Curious minds (or is that a fading mind) are wondering. ThanksBill CHello all, To my knowledge, LS6 Chevelle's never came with AC however power disc brakes did come with them. Power Steering wasa an option but few had it.
