[Chevelle-list] Headlight adjustment
I just put Halogen lights in my 65 Chevelle. Since Texas does not adjust headlights any more with inspections can any one advise me how to go about setting them. I was told about waist high on the low beams, does this sound right? This is reflected off the garage door. Thanks Darrell
Re: [Chevelle-list] Quarters
I will try to find it and let u know, I had a guy in Ft. Worth do my work on my Chevelle 65. I am south of Houston. I would not recommend the one that painted my car there, he made a real mess of the paint job. My brother lives in Ft Worth. In a message dated 10/25/2010 1:42:34 P.M. Re: [Chevelle-list] A different Type of Question
Another question about nitrogen. Shell claims their gas keeps your engine cleaner. Having worked in a chemical plant and refinery's and knowing that nitrogen is an inert gas and doesn't burn, how then can it keep engines cleaner. Nitrogen is used to purge other gases in welding and vessels. Just wondering , can anyone answer my thoughts. Wish I was still working and could ask the engineers. The folks who buy them need a return on investment, so they tout the benefits of nitrogen so they can sell it to you. To my knowledge, there is no research that shows any thing that makes it worth the money that the consumer spends. It's a profit center (once the machine is paid off) for the business that buys the equipment, nothing more. Racing teams use nitrogen to fill the tires so that they can have a consistent rise in temperature and pressure because of the lack of moisture in the tire. Street tires don't need it. Rick, did you go with 134 or r12? I have a 65 and converted to 134. It just doesn't cool as good. Has a small leak, if I can find that I will go back to r12 as I have 30 lbs of the stuff. I was told the older units will not work very well with the 134 and either its back to r12 or get a vintage setup in the car. Darrell **New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. BP was finally up and running from the explosion, they may still be making some final upgrades. I may run up to Kemah this Sat. to check out. We drove there last week to see how bad of a hit it took. It was bad very bad everything got flooded bad. It may be a few weeks to get back to normal. My 65 and the place where I have the 41 came thru the storm very good, our levee held and saved us. All the time I was at the farm I couldn't help bet picture New Orleans and their levees. The dike was washed clean. I will let you know how Kemah is doing and hope to see you there some Sat. night. Re: [Chevelle-list] SCAMS!!! Re: lost emails/1965 help
Mike, like you I wanted a 64-65 very bad. I had a 64 when I got married back in 69 and always wanted another one. Finally wife gave in and told me to get it, come to find out she wanted it as bad as me. I found one on ebay out side of D.C. I called the man and talked to him about selling it off ebay and he called me back with yes. All I had was pictures and his word, being a 60 y/o kid at heart I took his word. I sent a cashiers check but fedx the next day. Then I realized how stupid I had been, after several days the transport picked the car up and I felt a little better. I live on Galveston Bay in Texas and it took almost a week to get here. It finally did and boy was I relived. It was almost as he described it, and I am very happy with the car. Would I do it again, probably not, I sent check and he could have cashed it and kept the car, or did he really have a car to sell? Mine experience worked, but I would advise you to go thru what I did. I do have a 65 just like my old 64 that I traded in on a 69 GTO and love it. The original 327 and 4 speed runs great and turns heads, although not stock. But for a 61 y/o it is great, hope you get your dream car, just be a little more careful than me. It worked out, but what could have been scares me as an after thought. It stays on go during the storm season!!! Darrell **It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. By R&R, do you mean replaced? Both at one time is tough, I had one done last Oct. and getting ready to do the other. The Dr. did not recommend both at same time. I know rehab on one was h! I can't imagine both at same time. Mine was ruff till about the 10th week, then over night it turned around and was terrific compared to the old knee, but for the first 10 weeks I wondered if I had done the right thing getting it replaced. Now I wouldn't hesitate to get the other done and going to asap. Just going to miss driving the 4 sp for a while. Hope everything is going good. Re: [Chevelle-list] Radiator Replacement
I have a new 4 row core for a 64,65,66 Chevelle that I never used. I had it put on my tanks and started to install and found that I would have to remove the spacer from between the radiator and front mounting cross member. Or what they are called. It would work on a big block good, but for a small block the radiator would be farther from fan and out of the should. It never had water in it and never installed, I went back to 3 row. I have looked and can't find one that is for the 65, Ground Up has one that looks like it but for a 64. There are out of them and do not know when they will get one. Re: [Chevelle-list] Re STARTER
Had no problem with the warranty, opgi replaced it no problems, very good about that. WE got it fixed finally, it needed a relay put in, got a mopar relay and works fine now. Mopars come with a relay and they have the gear reduction starter as well. Just had to hid it so no one could see it. We didn't get the floods here, except minor street flooding, I live on coast where it is flat. I did have lots of rain up at my place in central Texas, washed out the roads there, but my land is high so no damage. We just watch for hurricanes, and go when they so go. Try to get out early, don't want to get in that mess from Rita 2 years ago, that is what is good about being retired, can go early and beat the traffic. I know about the kids and bills, got my 2 through college and now it is my turn. I was lucky, worked for a major petro-chemical company and they offered us a buy out when I was 52, I got out and don't regret it either. All we have here to work at is chemical plants or refinery's, the chemical plant is a lot safer. Right, the one I worked for blew up it 1947 and took the town and 500 people with it. A ship in harbor caught fire and blew up,loaded with ammonia nitrite. Take care and have fun with the Chevelles, Darrell ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Re: [Chevelle-list] Re STARTER
Got in touch with Power-Master this morning, they said the starter should work with both the 153 &168 tooth flywheel. The tech told us that either the battery was not at full charge or we needed a relay, like Pelle suggested. Trying that now and will let you all know how it works. This was another tech, decided to ask another as the first didn't seem to know. Darrell ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Re: [Chevelle-list] Re STARTER
I was thinking that, the old starter didn't have this problem. I replaced starter after it started to drag because of heat from headers. If I don't find problem will have to go back to old style and wrap the starter and headers in heat tape . The car was an automatic that I converted to 4 speed and has less than 2,000 miles on flywheel. I am getting to old for this, just wanted the car I had when I was a little younger, like 40 years ago. It is fun and does turn heads. Thanks again, Darrell ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Re: [Chevelle-list] STARTER
The starter works fine and no whinnying, that part is fine. The problem is that at times the gear on the starter comes out and hits the flywheel and will not engage the gears on the flywheel, I didn't make myself clear. Most of the time it has no problem, but at times it will not engage the flywheel. At first I thought it was the solenoid but when watching from under the car I saw the problem. Even tried beveling the gears on the leading edge a little more on the starter, hoping it would help engage. Thanks, Darrell ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
[Chevelle-list] STARTER

[Chevelle-list] STARTER
I have a 65 Chevelle, 327 4 speed, and having trouble with the starter engaging the flywheel. It starts most of the time, but every once in a while the gear will hit the flywheel and not engage. We have shimmed the starter and doesn't seem to help. We have changed the shim several trying different settings with no change in the problem. At first we thought it was electrical problem, changed the switch, new cables and even redid the wiring to starter, no help. It is getting full 12 volts to starter. Does any one have any ideas as to what I can do to fix the problem? Thanks Darrell ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

[Chevelle-list] Rear Sway Bar
I need some advice. I have a 65 SS that when I turn the cars roles real bad, I took the air shocks off and installed Gabriel coil overs hoping this would help. It did in that it lifted the car up but not much in the rolling. I am now looking at installing a rear sway bar. I have looked at several and need some help. I have looked at 3 different sway bars and installation. Addco has one that will install on my control arms without having to box them or replace them with boxed arms. I can get the kit with the bar and the pieces to box the arm from OPGI. Then there is buying new boxed arms and getting the sway bar to go with them. I like the Addco bar but concerned about not having boxed arms. Has anybody had any experience with these or know about them? I have just about filled that deep hole with money that I have been pouring into. getting to where I will have to decide on wife or the car. I am finding out I can't work on this one as easy as I did my 64 SS, I guess 40 years will make a difference. A lot more fun at 19 or 20 than 60, a lot easier getting up and down.
