RE: RE: [Chevelle-list] 71 Chevelle LS1
Hi Bob, Wow, small world! Let your friend know we thought it was a very nice car We checked it out more than once! The guy that was riding shotgun with me is a huge Nova fan. He's currently building a (I think) 62 wagon but he's changing it to a 2 door. I went through my pictures and I found one when we were leaving and there's a white Nova two cars ahead of me, maybe it was you? I added the pic to the LS6 page. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it next year because I'll be in the process of transferring. I don't think my wife will be willing to sell the house and pack everything while I'm out hot rodding my Elky around the country! But I will be at the Good Guys show in Charlotte at the end of this month. Re: [Chevelle-list] 71 Chevelle LS1
Here is the info I got on the fuel system mods. Joe, The tank listed in Jegs is by their request for a stock style conversion that can be adapted with an after market fuel pump such as the ones made by Walbro or Bosch which will handle your proposed HP out put but will be pushing the pump to its limits. I recommend that you look into our Stealth line of fuel tanks utilizing an Aeromotive A1000 with a 100 Micron Pre-filter all in the tank. The tank is baffled front to back and features a unique fuel reservoir for the fuel pick-up. This reservoir ensures proper fuel pick up when moving with great force in a lateral or longitudinal direction. The tank it self fits in the stock location and has a CNC machined access cover at the top should you ever need to service the pump and/or filter. The line sizes are a -10 AN feed and a -8 AN return. We can make these exit anywhere on the tank you would like preferably on the front face of the tank. The proposed set up is suitable for the 650-to1000+ HP range. This tank can be purchased directly from us or through Jegs on a special order basis only. I will give you a call tomorrow so we can further discuss this. Since the Nova uses the same subframe it looks like I should be able to get parts since there were some recent articles in Chevy HiPerformance magazine. It appears to me that you should have less problem since the 1st gen Camaro was a rear steer and I think yours is front steer so you should have less problem with clearances. Motor mount adapters for the Camaro set the engine back 2 1/2 to clear the subframe and headers are real expensive. Good luck and I look forward to seeing some answers to your question. Tim, I have checked into stand alone harnesses like Painless and Street and performance. I have the complete stock harness and ECM and feel confident enough that I can make it work. I'm pretty good with electrical and if I get the wiring diagrams I know I can figure it out. I was thinking of going with a Dakota Digital Dash for gauges to clean things up. I have a gauge pillar and column mounted tach now. The spedo works but is way off due to gear change to 4.10. I know I can fix that but with the 4L60E my spedo wont work any way. The Dakota spedo will work with the new computer controlled trans. Joe, The Ls1 swap is a great upgrade. I have been tossing the idea around for a while now. Slowly accumulating parts I plan on replacing my 454 with an LS1 down the road. Purists may hate it but I thik it is a step in the evolotion of the hobby and my restification. I'm probably a year out on the conversion unless I sell off the 454. Re: [Chevelle-List] '71 Chevelle 4-speed Drive shaft
you can use a driveshaft from any TH350 car or one with a 10 bolt rear. The length is the same as a 4 speed car, you would have to use a "junk joint" if it was a 10 bolt rear car. The u joint caps on a 10 bolt rear are smaller than a 12 bolt if i am not mistaken. They make a joint with 2 different caps, one to fit the TH350 shaft 12 bolt rears. This is what i have on mine, except I had to have the TH350 shaft shortened to accomodate the TH400 tranny Tom

Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List The reason that I ran a relay on my 67 ElCamino is that the wires that power the ign terminal on the fuze block are still quite small and the current has to run through a great distance ignition switch circuit and interior harness that has small wires too. By runnung a relay you can have a very short power wire and use a big a wire as you can find. I ran my #8 wire from the positive cable on the starter This helps create cleaner and higher coil discharge voltage that can add to lower et's. Using a relay is not to ease installation - it adds performance. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List I was told to run a #10 wire from the battery junction to the coil on the HEI. How can I run this through the ignition switch? -Original Message- From: Spencer, Darrell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, November 26, 2001 1:30 PM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [Chevelle-List] 71 chevelle Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Wait a minute. What relay? I don't have a relay between the ignition switch and the coil on my '70. This could be a possible problem, as well - if the relay isn't de-energizing. RE: [Chevelle-List] 71 chevelle HEI problem
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List You didn't say what the load was for the relay, only the supply. However, I would expect that this relay might be providing voltage to the starter solenoid. This is a common fix for the hot soak problem many Chevy starters suffer from. If so, then I think your ignition switch is definitely suspect for the run-on problem. But first, verify for sure that this relay is in line with the starter solenoid. If it's still in line with the coil, get rid of it, see if the problem persists, and if so look to the ignition switch as your likely problem. RE: [Chevelle-List] 71 chevelle HEI problem
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Interesting. Does this relay do anything else other than feed the coil? I would start by seeing if there's any current going through the coil lead with the ignition off, then with the ignition on, and then with the ignition off again. Also, consider these 3 tests with the indicator placed between the relay and its source of power; this will help determine if the problem is with the relay or some element located before it in the circuit.
