That engine came out of Tonawanda, June 18th, 1970 and was put into a
car built at Alanta, GA. The engine code is the same as mine,
(TO123CTX), which is a 396/402 350hp, with a Muncie M-20, or 21 behind
it, depending on your rear axle ratio!! Probably a POSI, 12 Bolt, maybe
3.31 or 3.36, possible 3.55-1, Good Luck!

On the subjec of matching numbers. My 70 SS block, heads, intake, AC
pump,
starter trans, rear end, all seem to be dead on matches for the build
date.
For example, the heads were cast in May, the block June 18, and so on,
and
the car was built September 1 in Oshua, Ontario. The build data supplied
to
me by GM Oshua ties out as well. BUT, there is another number on the pad
at
the front of the passenger side of the block next to the T0618CTX number
but
THAT number does not correspond to the VIN (it is 10A750779). I never
gave
it a thought until last night when I was reading through some stuff I
found
on the internet that said that number should be the VIN. On my block, it
can't be the VIN because it has the letter A in it. Does anyone know
what
gives with this stuff

Numbers matching is individualistic and you will get different
opinion's.
To some it doesn't matter and Hot Rod is the way to go, to some it's
feeling good that at least the engine / trans match the VIN, to some
it's
everything matching in build date order - just as the car rolled off the
assembly line. My goal is it's nice to have a car as the day it rolled
off
the line. Sometimes getting to that point is expensive and turns into
an
obsession.

Numbers matching does increase the value over a car that is not, but
that
doesn't mean a car that is customized wouldn't hold an equal or greater
cash value for it's uniqueness.

I've found the Chevrolet by the Numbers book very helpful in
identifying
correct numbers. It brings you into the world of casting numbers and
dates. The book is offered in several ranges of years.

What year car is yours?

some book to access that will tell me if these numbers match? And where

The VIN is not on the engine. The VIN doesn't tell what motor came in the car unless it is a 72 model. T0618CTX is as follows: T=Tonowanda 0618=June 18 of the model year, CTX=engine suffix which is a 396/350 with a 4 speed.

Craig,

The 10A portion means 1=Chevrolet, 0=year, A=assembly plant, but
only the last six numbers need to match your car's VIN; ie, the 750779
would be the same as the VIN if it's the original engine. CTX does
correspond to a 70 402/350hp L34.
