Re: [Chevelle-list] Figured it out

2007-02-02 Thread Devin
Rich- Thanks for the thoughts. I went back to turning wrenches for my
previous employer about 6 months ago to provide an income for us since the
store was not able to bring anything home. My wife continued to run it
since, and we have found a buyer for our inventory, so she'll be out of
there soon as well. I hate to shut it down, as it's been there since 1966,
but I can't compete with either pricing or inventory.

At least your doing it right on your end. Always bring the old part with you.
This alone has kept my trips to the parts store at a minimum.

There really aren't any dumb questions, but there are plenty of dumb
answers. Always ask someone if you're not sure about something.

I'm a professional auto tech and I deal with parts people every
day. They all screw up, even the good guys you can usually trust. I
was doing a job at the first of the year and the part I was replacing
wouldn't fit correctly. I called the parts man twice (this is a SAAB
dealer parts guy, who usually knows his stuff) and was assured that I
had the right parts. I had to take digital pics of the old & new
parts side-by-side and email them to him before he finally realized
that he had sent me parts for a 9-3 and I had a 9-5. I had told him
in every conversation we had that it was a 9-5, he just screwed
up. The point I'm making here is that the good guys can still give
you the wrong stuff, so always compare the old to the new before you
install them. It saves time and headaches. Welcome to my world. :-P

being do I take the rotors back and try to figure out what ones I really

I'd find another guy at the parts store. Take your old rotors to the
store & match them up to get the correct ones. Don't be messing with
your (and others) safety just 'cause it's a little more trouble to do it right.

ones I really need or is there something simple I can do to make

My new rotors are 3/8" shorter than the old ones. The guy at the parts store
assures me I have the right rotors for the car. My next question being do I
take the rotors back and try to figure out what ones I really need or is there
something simple I can do to make these work. I already have the seals and
bearings in and packed with grease so I am not wild about starting over. Ideas?
