Chuck,
Thanks for e-mailing me back. I am so sorry about your son. I did
not know that. I have a 24 year old myself. He is in law enforcement here in
N. J. and we pray for his safety every day. You will be in our thoughts and
prayers. This is of first chevy since highschool when I drove a 70 SS454
LS5. I have been a ford guy for 25 years. Having been a reg. director with
MCA and AACA. I met your tv partner at the 40th birthday of the Mustang in
april of 04. My Boss 351 was included in your segment of the show on tv. I
hope to meet you some day so I can give you my thoughts on judged shows.

Thanks for joining ACES, Dave, and no you haven't missed any issues. Since
you're a new Member, allow me to explain why you're behind in getting your
issues. Simple truth is that we're behind in getting them out. Some of
this is "normal," and some is not.

Each Summer (May thru August) we travel extensively to ACES events, which
gets us behind in our magazine production. Usually we try to get caught up
during the Fall, and in the past have been fairly effective at
accomplishing

that. In August of this year, however, while we were on our way to the
final ACES event of the year, an all-Chevelle cruise to our Regional in
Seattle, we learned that our 23-year-old son had died accidentally.

Since then we've been trying to deal with the loss and put our lives back
together. With God's grace and the prayers and heartfelt support of our
friends and the hobby in general, we're finally starting to return to
normalcy. In fact, we just sent the July/August issue (Chevell-abration
coverage) to press and are already working on the Sept/Oct issue. the
Nov/Dec issue will get our full attention after that, and we hope to be
caught up by the end of January.

I'm not trying to make any excuses for being behind, Dave. I know we owe
our Members everything they deserve, and I give my word that you'll get all
your issues of Chevelle World... only they'll be a little late. In fact,
since you joined in September, you'll actually get a couple of extra issues
because of our delayed mailing, since your Membership won't come up for
renewal until Sept '06.

BTW, as a general rule we can't return phone calls... there'd simply be too
many. However, I want to remind you that all ACES Members can take
advantage of the ACES Hotline (615) 773-ACES (Tech, deciphering,
authenticating, or just talking Chevelles) from 7-11pm Central time. Give
us a shout then... Mondays seem to be busiest, but from mid-week on you
should be able to get through without much difficulty.

Thanks again for joining ACES, Dave. We hope to earn your trust and
continued support once we get things back on track.

Chuck

Hi
Chuck,

We
went to our first (and so far only) Chevelabration in June '03 the week after I
returned from my first Power Tour.  Needless to say both events were a
blast and I fully intended to do it again the following year - until the dates
conflicted.  Since I had to make a choice, PT won out in '04 and '05.
Hopefully in the future, these two events can be further apart so I can do both
again!

Your
description is of the two is right on.  Chevelabration is a relaxing
weekend with tons of great Chevelles to be enjoyed.  PT on the other hand
is what I call the "Gear head's fishing trip."  Since Carol isn't too keen
on driving a noisy hot rod from city to city for 10-12 days, I have to go with
my friends instead!

Maybe
one of these days the two will be spaced far enough apart for me to do both
again.

Herb

That's exactly what I did this year. Cruised with the PT as far as the
Nashville stop and then stayed for Chevellabration. It was nice having that
extra day to rest and get the El Camino spiffed up.

Two big thumbs up to Chuck for making Chevellabration truly a "Family"

They're still in a bit of a conflict, but only if you want to be a Power Tour "long hauler."  The dates for this year's Chevell-abration are June 8-10 (Thurs-Sat), while the HRPT runs from June 3 (Florida) to June 10 (New Jersey).  I've been on four of them (twice all the way), and can understand why the HRPT is sometimes referred to as the "sleep deprivation" tour.  Quite a few ACES Members that try to make both of them split the time: A few days of losing sleep on the PT, then coming to Nashville for a relaxed weekend of great cars and great people.  Guess it just goes to show you that you CAN have your cake and eat it too!  This year we anticipate having over 500 classic Chevelles filling Moss-Wright Park, with participant events ranging from drag races to cruises, and swap meets to seminars.  I think the biggest difference is that Chevell-abration is a real family-oriented event with things to keep Mom and the kids occupied; the HRPT is pretty much a "guy thing," although plenty of wives, girlfriends and female enthusiasts attend the Tour as well.

My buddy and I did the first 3 stops of this years
power tour.  Info was not readily available till the day of registration
for the first timers.  We had no problems once we knew the route.  We
were not into the festivities so we got about 30 minutes down the road and
caught up to them as they went by.

If you want to go on the power tour, you would register with Family
Events.  They do have a hotel registration if you dont want to find them
yourself, BUT, you can do it much cheaper by doing a little research and
making your own reservations.  This will be my third year and second Long

You pretty much got it.  Everyone with a Chevelle needs to experience
Chevellabration, it's more like a 3 day party.  Very laid back atmosphere,
great people, great cars.

Yes, you have to make all your own hotel reservations, all they do really
is provide the route and the venue for each stop.  I am thinking of going
on Power Tour this coming year myself.  It starts in Florida and ends
essentially in my back yard so it would work out nicely.

I have to agree with John here. I get approx. 93mph with this formula:
"speed" = RPM x tire circumf. x 60 / trans gear x rear end gear x 63371.4
And yes, a 6 cylinder will achieve the same RPM as a V8 at a certain speed
given that all else is equal (i.e. tire size, trans gear, rear gear ratio,
etc.), you'll just get there a hell of a lot quicker.

John, I can echo most of what Herb said. The wiper conversion
from Detriot Speed may be the best $300. I have spent on my car. This year I
didn't drive my Elky, but my newly built 421 Tripower Tempest Custom Conv. I did
find many small items in need of improvement. Only driving a car a distance will
bring these things to light. And Herb, when did you ever slow down to eighty,

At 90 I am taching around 2400 RPM. At the fastest I saw 3,000 in overdrive. Any
guesses as to the MPH? I was disappointed not to get a chance to see
Clint's car. There is just so much going on and so many cars. My trip was

about the same MPG as Herb. The car took a little wear and tear, but they are

  Hi
  John,

  The
Tour went fine.  There were a couple little glitches along the way, but
each was an easy fix.  Just like last year, the weather pretty much
sucked most of the time.  This time Mike and I were prepared for the
rain - we both had a Detroit Speed & Engineering 7 speed wiper motor in
out cars.  Other than the noise and vibration, it felt like I was in a
new car when the wipers were running!

  Yes
we did meet up with Clint, however, I never got to see his Elky.  :
  (

  If
time and money allow, I highly recommend everyone do this trip at least
once.  Not only will you have a great time and meet a lot of great
people, the Tour will definately put a spot light on your car's weak
points.  Personally, I think if people just drive (or trailer)
their cars to local shows and cruises, they'll never truly get the bugs
worked out.  Last year I thought the Elky was good to go, but after the
Tour, I made a lot of changes to improve its road worthiness.  This year,
those improvements made the drive a lot more enjoyable, but I did find a
couple more items that need attention.  My car may not be as pretty as it
used to be, but I know I can turn the key and hit the road any time I feel
like it without worrying about making it to my
destination!

  For
those of you into stats, I drove 4021 miles, used 312.45 gallons of gas, which
cost $634, and I averaged 12.87 mpg.  That's not too bad
considering we drove 80 + mph most of the time and there was a lot of stop
& go driving once we got to the venues.

  Hi
  John,

  The
Tour went fine.

Yep,I left with the Tour from Arlington and made it
to Springfield,MO before turning around. Didn't have the funds to do the Long
Haul but it sounds like the weather didn't cooperate very much for the last
three stops, anyway. I was able to hang out a little bit with Herb and Mike at
the first three stops but unfortunately,we never did hook up out on the highway.
My El Camino ran well and I put over a thousand miles on it.
It was fun but I sure hope there's not a conflict
next year between CB'05 and the Tour. If so,I'll definitely be at
CB'05.

I haven't made up my mind yet whether to drive
the Callaway or the Elky on the Power Tour but I am definitely planning to be
a part of it. Since the Tour ends up down the road from me (two hours drive),I
might try to meet some of you on the road and convoy back.

this a group effort, maybe we could meet somewhere?

Clint

Get your wife or a good friend to drive one so we can see 'em both !!! My 70
LS6 is still 2 or more years away, but Chevellabration is a very good show.
It was cool just driving around the hotels checking out all the Chevelles
before the show. There was 3 or 4 just at the hotel I was at.

Herb,

please do two things for for a poor fruit buyer.
1.take one thousand pictures and mail them to me.
2. tell me the expences afterwards.
I have a secret dream (hush dont tell anybody) of getting over there, buy a nice 1937
chevy coupe and do the tour.

european cannonball would be nice as well but $$$ are a little bit short for a
porsche or a ferrari.

well, back to work

That's great Clint!  I'll have to keep an eye open for you.  But
then again, it might be easier for you to spot my car!  :)
