Re: [Chevelle-list] List Etiquette
From the FAQ page that you should have read when you joined--the whole page is here: http://www.chevelles.com/lists/#120 BillL Any other rules we should know about? Generally, your List Administrator is not big on rules. It is expected that list participants exercise due politeness when discussing controversial subjects with each other. Occasionally, tempers will flair and hurtful comments will be tossed about, but it is anticipated that most members will be grown up enough that they can tolerate contrary opinions and maybe the odd joke or two. There are some other guidelines for ensuring a happy list: It is appreciated by all if you could ensure your subject headers reflect accurately the contents of your posts, especially if you are replying to a current thread. When you reply to another message, please try to refrain from quoting the entire message in your own post. Instead, quote just the relevant bits of the original message. Doing this reduces bandwidth needed to transmit e-mail (especially nice for folks who dial into their e-mail via modem) and makes your messages much easier to read, particularly in digest format. Since some list members might have trouble with them, the sending of binary attachments (such as pictures of your Chevelle) to the Chevelle List is not allowed and will only get the administrator in a very cranky mood as he sits waiting an hour for the picture to load off the server. In short: This also keeps nasty viruses from reaching your computer via a mailing list. In all cases, remember to reply to folks as if they were in the same room with you. Because you can't see other members of the Chevelle List is no reason to behave any less politely than you would with people you were meeting face to face. Your List Administrator is none too interested in maintaining strict adherence to notions of topical relevance, and is not crazy about dozens of superfluous messages complaining that a particular post is off-topic. Try to stay on the subject of Chevelles, but if the conversation digresses, hey, you're among friends. Have some fun. If, on the other hand, you are one of those human beings who has a hard time dealing with other human beings when they start acting like human beings, you might not appreciate the easy-going manner in which this list is administered.
Re: [Chevelle-list] List Etiquette
Larry - I've been participating in discussion lists since back when only geeks (I mean that in the good sense) had computers. I've also run my fair share of lists as well. Discussion list etiquette is important to ensure harmony of the list. Truth is, while some people may use their computers solely for recreation, others (like me) make their living on their computer. So the last thing these latter folks need is a mailbox full of crap. In my opinion, discussion list participants owe their fellow list members the respect of following a few simple guidelines. Here are a handful of rules I use on the lists I run. No fighting. Healthy disagreeing is cool, fighting sucks and you will be banned. Do not discuss politics or religion (unless your list is political or religious in nature, of course). Similarly, keep the discussion on topic. We are here to discuss __. While many of us may be interested in similar other, things, the one thing we know we agree on is and so that is what we discuss here. If there is something off-topic you feel you absolutely must share with us, please mark it as off-topic with "OT" in the subject line. That way the other list members can choose to delete the message if they'd rather not read off-topic messages. Please refrain from posting too many off-topic messages. If we feel you're posting too many off-topic messages, we may be forced to moderate you. Please do not post personal messages to the list. If your message is meant for only one other list member, then send it directly to that list member. This goes for responses as well as original messages. The rules for the lists I run are generally longer and more involved than this, but the above are the ones I feel are most important. There are several other resources out there for list etiquette, including an official RFC - http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1855.html Bottom line is that list etiquette is all about respecting the other list members. As the Internet becomes the playground of laypeople, a lot of things like list etiquette go by the wayside. The inmates really are running the asylum sometimes. It is good that this list moderates itself rather well because I've seen some good list go to hell in a handbasket. It sounds like the list you're referring to could use some gentle moderation to maintain its usefulness for its members. Oh, BTW - I should have sent this to you in a personal e-mail. ;-) Karl Groves Master Certified CIW http://www.karlgroves.com <http://www.karlgroves.com/> Grayscale Content Management System: http://www.grayscalecms.com <http://www.grayscalecms.com/> _ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, February 24, 2007 2:10 PM To: chevelle-list@chevelles.net Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] List Etiquette Hello List: While we are on the subject of lists, I have a question. The Chevelle club that I belong to has a list somewhat like this on Yahoo. Just my personal opinion but after driving modern cars for so long, a 14" wheel is very comfortable to me. I had a 13.5" Weld Racing and a 14" LeCarra in my 67 SS and currently have a 14" LeCarra in my 67 Elky. The 13.5" just seemed too small but the 14" is quite nice. Be sure that the refibulator is mounted at a 66 degree angle and properly dispersed so that it is flush with the curved section of the Pyrex thistle tube. Place the four sections of the triangular separation gear into the posture cylinder and lock them into place using the band aid adhesive strip. Insert the wiggling pin into the wobbling hole, making sure that it seated correctly. Place the D cell battery and the eleven 9 volt batteries in the power chamber. The device should be calibrated before operation using the optional digital corkscrew accessory pack prior to operation. Insert the digital corkscrew through the electronic combustion service chamber using caution not to touch the reinforced tungsten igniter control module and quickly turn the inverter drive to 28.6 degrees. Turn the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit upside down and hit the bottom plate with a 48-ounce ball-peen hammer while shaking the unit vigorously. Force open the door to the incineration valve compartment and set the pressure gauge to 719 psi. Close the door and seal it shut with duct tape. The unit should now be properly calibrated and ready to use. Before activating the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit, you must first elevate it to a height of 229 feet above sea level to insure that the unit receives the proper oxygen level and barometric pressure. Point the aerial to 17 degrees north by northeast to within the parameters of the Telstar GS-2 weather satellite and apply pressure to the wing shaft on the southern most section of the modular accelerator. Using the special ratchet adapter supplied with the unit, rotate the heater core to the "on" position. The "on" position has been obtained when the green light begins to flash, signifying that the red light is about to go off. Once the red light is off, flip the toggle switch labeled "ON/OFF" to the "ON" position and count to 47 before logging on to the system. Logon using your username and password and wait for the prompt. Once prompted you must check the box with the appropriate action you wish to take and then press the pressure release button and turn off the compressor while turning the hand crank at 231 meters per minute. Next, press control, alt, delete, caps lock, shift, number lock, escape and tab simultaneously. Press enter. You will have one second to complete the procedure. I want to see how strong my 427 BB roller motor will be before making any decisions. However,I have considered the idea of a centrifugal blower and if I go that route,it would be silly not to go ahead and convert to EFI. 750+hp would be kinda nice. Knowing that I can get a reasonably well-featured controller for only $200 and free software makes it much more attainable. I wouldn't pay $1000 for an Accel or Haltech unit. I didn't want to deal with a stock system that couldn't give me enough latitude to accomodate my 406. I also didn't want to deal with calling some EFI shop to have them burn me a new chip anytime I made a mod. I guess I'm in the opposite boat as you -- have never had (or rather, worked on) a high-tech car. I wish I had buddys sending me complete EFI setups and saying "eh, play with it, see what ya think!" :-) The MegaSquirt in it's stock form can accomodate up to 21psi of boost, so it seems like adding a Vortech or Paxton shouldn't be real difficult. I have a friend with a blown '87 Mustang and watched him pull a 10.90 with a 302. That's impressive to me. I don't really want to run 10s (ok, maybe a few times!), but it seems you could build a nice, reliable setup capable of low-mid 11s easily. I'm starting to gather parts for my EFI conversion. I plan on converting my 406-powered '70 to EFI using the MegaSquirt EFI controller and a TPI-based manifold. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0403_mega/index2.html It's definately not an easy project. Just assembling the MegaSquirt and pieceing together a harness will be challenging, let alone the high-pressure fuel system and then tuning the thing. All of the software is free, and the whole design (hardware & software) is open source, free for anyone to modify to their liking. There's a real good mailing list with lots of knowledgeable folks. I think I'm going to start with an 80s TPI manifold setup, although I susspect it might be too restrictive for my combo. I hope to score some of the intake hardware at the GM Carlisle meet in June. I got a set of injectors from a '96-98 Mopar 5.9 for free at work today. I'm not sure if they work or if they'll work on a TPI manifold, but they were free.I haven't seen any postings here, but over on the MegaSquirt list, there's a lot of talk about the newer Wide-Band oxygen sensors (WB02). Even for carb'ed cars (who put an O2 bung into the exhaust), these WB02 sensors can show a real-time air-fuel ratio. Unlike older O2 sensors (narrow-band), these wide-band unit are accurate when you get away from stoich (14.7:1 Air-fuel ratio). I imagine you could really cut down on tuning time with one of these, not to mention increase the 'quality' of your tune. -Dave

-Dave
[Chevelle-list] list quiet? my project update
I didn't get any email from the list on Wednesday April 28th. Is everyone just out cruising, enjoying the weather? I drove my '70 to work for the first time this year, as it is almost 80 today in Cleveland. woo-hoo!Since it's been quiet, I'll post an update on my latest project. I'm starting to gather parts for my EFI conversion. To unsubscribe from this service you must first purchase a Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit. The unit can be obtained from most hardware stores and dental clinics. Be sure to obtain the proper permits to operate the unit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Food and Drug Administration in Washington D.C. USA. Be sure to carefully unpack the kit and place each component in its accompanying mesh safety bag. Mount the Pershing DF4 mesinator on top of the perforated Gerring Mach 77 refibulator and attach them using the eight-millimeter torque fork. L8unsubscribe? you shoulda had a V8 this morning. Can't unsubscribe until the 5th Monday of the 11th month at 5:00p.m. sharp. Otherwise you need the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit, available only through Craft-O-Matic, at Craft-O-Matic.com or you can wait until someone deletes your name from camsathome.com list. Good luck with your Chevelle. ;-Diane

Re: [Chevelle-List] List archive and exhaust hanger location
Hi Rodney, The stock location for the exhaust hangers is on the rear cross member. If you get under the car and look up at the crossmember, you'll see a small hole (may or may not be threaded) on the outer most end on both sides. A bit further in toward the center, you see two more holes drilled on the vertical side of the crossmember. These probably aren't very clear locations, but each hanger uses two bolts, one goes up towards the bed, the other goes towards the front or back (depending which way you start the bolt) of the car. If you have a 2002 Year One catalog, look on page 106, middle of page, left side. Maybe the picture of the hangers will help you understand my description better. cYa- Herb Lumpp 1966 El Camino ACES 3509, MCC 528 http://users.adelphia.net/~hlump/ - Original Message - From: "Rodney." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, November 11, 2002 11:46 AM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] List archive and exhaust hanger location > On a side note. I know this isn't really your point, but it reminded me to make a reminder :) Just in case some new guys don't know or if anyone's forgotten, there's an archive of past email at http://www.mail-archive.com/chevelle-list%40chevelles.net/ Update on my engine swap: Engine's in, everything will be bolted up by the end of today. The exhaust is mocked up and should be welded by the end of the day. Only thing left to do is the wiring and I'll be back on the road! Can't wait! :) On a side note. If anyone who has installed the Flowmaster 2-1/2" exhaust kit on their car has a picture (or REALLY detailed instructions) of where the rearmost hanger is supposed to bolt in, I could really use it. It says to use the stock location, but 1) I don't know where that is because the last person who did exhaust made their own holes and stuff. 2) The bracket doesn't seem to line up anywhere and I'm stumped trying to figure it out. Well, I did this as a test a few months back and gave instructions. I have some sites that use this same feature for a car club listing. See http://www.bumpstop.com/clubs/autoclub.htm for one example. He has 201 clubs listed here. If anyone wants to post information about their car, they can view the site here http://ep.com/js/csp/38046.html and click on a "post" link. Choose "Private Party" unless you want to pay for your listing. You will have to register first, all you need is a name, email, and password. The next page is a "Post Ad" form. Check the location and edit if needed; Price$: Leave blank - unless you are selling your car; Label: Enter your car year and model (i.e. 1967 SS396); Buyline: Enter as a quick description of the car; More Info: fill in as much as you want here. Don't check any of the paid options unless you want to donate money to EPage! Once the ad is posted, you can log into your account and add a picture to the ad. Ads can be renewed via email, and if this is popular, I will make them last six months instead of 31 days. We can try something like that, but last time a request was made to compile a list of everyone's cars, I set up this site: http://ep.com/js/csp/38046.html As you can see, it was not very popular. This is a custom classified ad site (this is what my company does) that I created for the list use. Re: [Chevelle-List] List question
I agree Craig, but you need someone who would be willing to compile the list and archive it for anyone who requests, unless it's for trying to sell them something. Gotta be careful of spammers getting a list like that. Probably should be done off list to the person getting the info, then offered to list members only. But most guys are on more than one list and everyone gets E-mail from other places as well. This won't stop people from getting it from another source if they aren't protected. Just stop it from going out on "this" list. As Teneessee Ernie Ford said "if the left one don't get ya then the right one will!" Usually we can filter out any such attachments but this one seems to be small enough for mail programs like this to have difficulty with. I've re-configured our mailing list to accept a max size of 29K (the virus is 30.4) so hopefully this will help out. We will give this a try and change it back when we can. While I'm in the 'admin' mode, I've removed a number of hotmail and yahoo accounts lately. If you have one of these, please watch your disk space as once your mailbox is full, the list messages get sent to me as non-deliverable so I have to remove the name from the list. The chevelle-list is a great resource and we wish to keep it active and free of hassles. Thanks to all for your efforts in this regard! Regards..
