Dont throw away your parts! In Ontario, Canada it's a $200-$500 fine for
every item missing on a smog system. (if the cop wants to be a prick - some
can be understanding ) Eric..

We did some work on Jana's Elky yesterday...found out it may have been a
six from the factory due to the one core radiator we found (unless they
put
those in 305's). We removed everything but the computer. It seems to do
fine with the stock Quadrajet and distributor, so if it ain't broke...

The engine runs as smooth as silk now. We found a code on the motor which
the neighbor says means it's an '88 Goodwrench motor. We thought since the
fan shroud said 305 that it came with that motor, but it could have been
from another car (I can't imagine a factory 305 with a one core radiator).

Anyway it was a full days work to get all that EPA crap out of the
car...looks cleaner now and runs a lot smoother...should run cooler now as
 well.

Alright another desmogged vehicle. I remember doing it to my 86 Cutlass.
Tore off every piece of emission control junk, gutted the converter, and
ripped off about 3000 vacuum line. also replaced the distributor/carb with
one from an older non computer controlled car. Made the car run alot better,
better gas mileage too beleive it or not. This made the chevy engine
transplant much easier last december. I just have to hope i don't get
checked at a motor vehicle checkpoint. Think it may be time to move out of
NJ soon :) The funny thing is the 350 I dropped in the car has lower
emissions than the 307 I took out of the car.

They don't do that here...the county I'm going to be living in doesn't and
likely won't test...when they finally get legislation for it, the car will
be exempt...the parts are long gone (next door) to the donor car parts pile

fails...then its curtains for both!

Kelly NEVER say they don't do that here, the Tree-Huggers are
after all of us. Look in CA, the Tree-huggers don't want a power
plant even when they have no lights!
Look at Dallas Ellis county, they are all biting the EPA
stuff, it's only a matter of time.
And remember Exempt is only one bill away from going away!

If for no other reason I have seen ads wanting to buy the
pollution equipment needed to get there 83 past inspection
where they live.

But as you well know Dallas now, I think you can get anything
for $50.00 G.

Yep, just about...:)

Just save the stuff, someone in CA may pay big $$ for it...

Yep, donated it to the guy across the street...he's going back to stock on
two different cars so he can sell them. I'm trading out him doing my lawn
until we leave town...gonna paint a little too!

Hey Mark, where in Ohio are you? I'm up in the Cleveland area.

I've heard about the Collector plates too, but I thought they closed that
loophole last year or so. A friend was gonna do that for his '89 Mustang.
Do you know of a good place to get info on how to qualify for those
collector plates?

-Dave, [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Never fear, there's usually a loop hole. I live in Ohio and an e-check
county. I have to get my 83 wagon classified as a Collector
 vehicle and it
is exempt from testing. It's definitely not stock but I can still
 drive it.
Depending on the vehicle however, getting it classed as a
 collector may be a
pain. If ya got the parts keep em. If ya don't and something like
 this comes
 updo your homework.

Any vehicle in NJ that is 25 years or older can be registered as historic and
is also exempt from inspection completely. I guess I will just have to wait
until 2011 to register that car historic
