Thanks Tom and Dale.

I didn't find what I wanted at Firestone's site (may have just missed
it).
This is helpful: http://www.turbinecar.com/tires.htm

2006-10-17 Thread Dale
I have an old BFG tire information chart at
http://www.chevellestuff.com/tech/tire_information.htm showing the following
on a 15-inch wheel:
195x70 - 25.7
195x75 - 26.5
205x70 - 26.1
215x65 - 26.0
225x60 - 25.6
225x65 - 26.5

Other mfgs tires may vary but that should get you close.

What would be a possible range of tire sizes for a 15 rim and a 6 wide
tire.
I have no idea of the height, but a 26 or so would be in the ballpark.
I'm guessing around a 180/70 R15 ???

Thanks
Mike

When you are talking about 15s and 17s, that refers to the wheels rather
than the tires. You can presumably have a 17 inch wheel with a low-profile
tire that doesn't take up any more space than a 14 inch wheel with a higher
profile tire.

They have
real low aspect ratios (narrow side walls).
I have observed the bicycle wheels crowd lately growing in
numbers. They get the largest wheel diameter that will fit and put the
lowest aspect ratio tire on them. Not only does this look really weird,
but seems to me it can be very dangerous. Personally, I'd never put low
aspect ratio tires on a street cara pothole can destroy a very
expensive wheel with no protection from the tire (no sidewall) in a
heartbeat. I cringe when I see this look on the older carsjust ruins
the lines of the car. I've cancelled subs to car mags because they seem
to have jumped on this bandwagon. The only positive thing I can say about
this combo is that it does look a little better than the 13 wide
13 tall tires I've seen on cars sticking way out of the wheel wells
(another dangerous combo...)

2001-08-27 Thread Galen and Melissa Love

My 2 cents --- Just keep in mind that with
this "dangerous" combination of low profile tires on large diameter wheels (I'm
not talking about the insane 20-23" diameter wheels, just 17" diameter),
steering response and, therefore, accident avoidance and safety of the occupants
is greatly improved. That was the original reason for the lower profile
tires. I have to agree with you guys about one thing; there's nothing I
hate more than an econo-car running around with 13"x10" gold spoke wheels and 7"
tires that don't even come close to fitting the wheels.

The fronts will be a bit taller and narrower than the rears. A great site
for measuring tire sizes is http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html. Plug
in the size of your front tire as the stock and use the rear tire as the
New. It'll show you in numbers and a rough graphic the differences in
height and width. If you change the aspect ratios around, 60's on the front
and 70's on the rear, it might look better overall.

The site will also tell you how much your speedo will be off from a stock to
new tire sizes.
