RE: [Chevelle-list] fuel Impedance

2005-07-12 Thread tigergutt
Hi,

I've never had any problems with either my Autometer nor my chevy gauge but if I
remember right there was a thread a while back about a bad ground on the sending
unit in the tank.

ciao André

I’ve had numerous aftermarket fuel gauges and, to be honest, none have
worked correctly. Had a SW back in the 60’s in a ‘55, two different
Autometers in my ’67 and a Dakota Digital in my ’67. Even with a new tank
sender neither the Dakota Digital setup nor an Autometer UltraLite would
read correctly. It got to the point that I used my odometer as a backup – I
knew how far I could drive under normal in-town/highway conditions and
watched the odometer to clue me in when to get gas.

If anyone figures it out, more power to ‘ya - grin

Hey all, keep posting any progress you make on this. The sending unit in my
'70 is only reading from ½ to empty. It won't go over ½, even when the tank
is full. I'll probably be dropping my tank soon to start checking it out.

I believe from checking out my fuel sending unit and gauge, that in 1964
they were 50 OHM and in 1965 they went to 90 OHM. I have a 90 OHM sending
unit and a 90 OHM gauge, but it is not working the full range of the gauge.
It only reads about half the range on the gauge.

Hope we all can find some help with this. I need to recheck my sending
unit. Need to put an OHM meter on it and check it.

Check grounds! And if possible get a 100 ohm
potenteometer and test is by adjusting the resistance
from the pickup lead with respect to ground.

Autometer makes a gauge that works with a
stock sending unit. I believe it is a 90 ohm unit but I would call the tech
line at Autometer to make sure you get the correct one the first time.

Their tech line # is 815.899.0801
