Thanks Clint..that procharger hums...only 10lbs of boost to run that
fast. Gotta love BBC's. Ran high 10's with a pretty much stock
396/350HP motor and the procharger.
Sold the blower setupTurbo will be added next winter

Not much to look at right now. Frame is out from under it and getting ready
to paint the frame. Motor and transmission are built for it. I think a 454
bored 30 over should move it down the road ok. It has good heads on it with
a 580 lift cam.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Exhaust System - LS 5

2005-06-05 Thread Richard M. Pruett

Has anybody heard of or used these
guys?

http://www.grabthepower.com/

There is a local muffler shop that has given me a
price of $300 for a 2 1/2" dual system on my big block V-6 pick up and I'm
wanting a little feedback from users.

http://stovebolt.com/gallery/pruett_richard_1967.htm

Also, I'm interested in comments as to where to
bring out the pipes. Turn down underneath? Straight out the back? Out the side;
behind the rear wheels or before? I'm not looking for originally here;
original single 2" pipe came out behind driver side rear wheel. What I
want to achieve is to allow this old engine to breath as best as she
can. I recently opened up the air flow on this big boy by installing an
oversized air filter and raising the breather cover 1/2"; now bringing in air
all around rather than sucking it through the 1 1/2" snorkel but keeping the
original look. That made a huge difference!!

Any and all thoughts are welcome.

Borla is a great exhaust system. A million mile warranty exaust system.
That shows they're confidence in the product. I put a Borla system on my 95
GMC Sonoma and it was great ! It made the 6 Cylinder sound like an 8 with no
excessive noise. Its throaty, but its what we ( and others) Americans love.
The extra Ponies were helpful in blasting the 5.0's that Ford made famous.
Although it wasnt only the exhaust system, it definately didnt hurt the
performance. By the way, I do not work for Borla, only a fan.

I just installed a new exhaust system on my 69 El Camino w/350 SBC and
used 2.5" & 3" aluminized tubing with Flowmaster series 40 Delta Flows.
One word describes it: loud.
The newer Pypes stuff is pretty good.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Exhaust System - LS 5

2005-06-04 Thread malibu

Here's my previous post about Pypes:

I bought my 3" exhaust from pypes exhaust, and it is awesome.http://www.pypesexhaust.com/I
mocked up the kit myself, and easily could have put it on if I would havehad
a lift.  The exhaust over the rear axle was a PITA, so I brought it
tothe muffler shop, and they put it on cheap.  They said it was the
best kitthey had ever put in.  I got the X pipe with the cut outs so
that I can getthat race sound when I want (I plan on putting the electric
cutouts on thecar soon), but went with the pypes mufflers because the 502
has a big voice, and I wanted to be somewhat quiet when idling through the
neighborhood.  Itstill sounds great though, and has a very deep/mean
bass sound when idling.LaterCharleswww.65ss.com

P.S. I had nothing but great stuff from them.  When I called with
questions they took the time, and helped me, and the kit was almost perfect
fit.  One tail pipe was slightly cocked (1/2", probably wouldn't have
noticed) but the muffler shop fixed it.

Check the forums/boards at performanceyears.com for threads relating to
PYPES, and also ask about the availability of instructions, support, etc.
before making a purchase. I bought one of the early PYPES systems a
couple of years ago and it came with no instructions, just a photo that
was barely helpful. And the website kept saying that the online
instructions were "coming soon" but when I checked back last year they
still weren't up. I have the system on my car but have never been truly
happy with it; I had to do quite a lot of modifying to get it to fit and
it still hangs too low for my taste (Trans Am, which doesn't have much
ground clearance to begin with). In fact, I'm planning on working on
it today in case I hook up with the Power Tour tomorrow...

Hopefully PYPES' products and service have improved since 2003 but I'd do
some serious research before sending them any money, based on what I
went through. You can also check the threads at classicalpontiac.com
(Performance Years started out as strictly Pontiac) for some opinions.
Good luck!
